It’s the coolest ninja matchup you could have ever dreamed of! The Heroes in a Half-Shell meet the host of the Nine-Tailed Fox in this graphic novel crossover! When teenage reporter April O’Neil has a clandestine meeting with Tsunade, the leader of the Hidden Leaf Village, it garners the attention of Naruto, Sasuke, Sakura, and Kakashi. They aren’t the only ones who are wondering what the two women were discussing, though. The sinister Foot Clan have their own interest in April’s visit, as they think she might hold the valuable information on mutation research being conducted by the scientist Baxter Stockman. With April caught between the forces of the Hidden Leaf Village and the Foot Clan, it can’t be long before the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles show up to lend her a hand! IDW and VIZ Media present two of the greatest ninja teams of all time in this groundbreaking crossover by writer Caleb Goellner and artist Hendry Prasetya. Collects issues #1-4.
loved this book. An awesome mix of TMNT snd the Naruto universe/characters. I admit i am much more familiar with the TMNT and know very little about Naruto. Good story, artwork and plenty of ninja action.
Ninja Team 7 is tasked with returning teenage reporter April O'Neil home. However they are ambushed by the evil Foot Clan, who is intercepted but the TMNT. Will the two heroic ninja teams kill each other or find a common ground/enemy?
I think they mixed both universes ninja heritage perfectly and blended into a great story. Lots of ninja techniques and special team up moves. I would love another team up with the two teams facing the other universe's villains. The book finishes with a huge variant cover gallery.
This was absolutely nothing special but absolutely a lot of fun if you like both of these franchises.
My favourite thing was the ridiculous cross-named strikes, which of course I cannot remember but please trust me, they were fun and dumb.
Some gorgeous splash pages of turtles and ninjas.
A very thin plot, but that's not really what we came for, is it?
Just a fun little crossover event that sees them first battle, then team up. Neither side proves to be stronger than the other, so all fans can leave happy. And seeing Mikey and Naruto fight side by side? Hell yes. THIS is what we came for.
A fun story if you don't take it too seriously.
With thanks to NetGalley for approving digital ARC
It was fun and I had an enjoyable time while reading it and while that's usually the point of these crossovers, it ultimately didn't do much for me as a story. I don't claim to be a big expert on the Naruto cannon the way I am on the TMNT, so perhaps there is a disconnect there that could have hampered my reading. Nevertheless, I'm always down for an amusing tale.
Special Thanks to IDW Publishing and Netgalley for the digital ARC. This was given to me for an honest review.
A classic crossover with a few surprises but obviously a lot of fan service. It's funny and reads well, but as is often the case, the story is very light.
In this alternate world, Kakashi's Team 7 accompanies April O'Neil to the Big Apple village (which is funny) after she questions Tsunade about a mysterious mutagenic serum. The storyline is therefore mainly based on an adventure of the turtles, but as if their world had always been integrated into that of Naruto.
The character design of the turtles in the Naruto world is super stylish, and while the art style doesn't quite fit Team 7 as well, it's still fine. Sakura's integration and role is surprising, almost better than in Naruto (which wasn't difficult).
Thanks to Netgalley and IDW Publishing for the e-ARC 🙏
It sounds like a match made in heaven but it’s just ok. It’s a fun crossover and that’s really it, however not sure what I was expecting other than them just meeting in general. Maybe they can make 2 more with each regarding the other shows but it’s fine with just this input
I see a Jorge Jimenez cover, I read. Very fun and silly. I loved Prasetya's art and the nostalgia I felt while reading these characters. The dialogue could use some work... Exactly the reset I needed after reading some intense books this month.
OMG, I never imagined having Naruto and the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles in the same space, but what a surprise! Both teams are super lovable, but to be honest, seeing Team 7 again totally got me in the feels (insert emotional tears here). 🥲🍥
The action scenes were really cool, and while there were a few things that didn’t completely worked for me, I get it (I mean, it’s a crossover, so...), and in the end, they did just enough to make it feel coherent and believable, well, as believable as a fantasy crossover can get.
Oh, and huge thanks to NetGalley and IDW Publishing for the e-arc! :)
Naruto's team is a team of ninja. The turtles are a team of ninja. Of course they should come together! These two groups love snacking (ramen/pizza), and they take on the Foot Clan to save Master Splinter and April once again. the synergy makes sense and works very well. There are a lot of characters within a short amount of pages, so, unfortunately, not everyone gets enough of a chance to shine and be part of the story overall. The coloring brought in a lot of influence from the Naruto anime but still blended nicely with the style of other Turtles comics.
The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles had many memorable crossovers over the years that included Savage Dragon, The Ghostbusters, Usagi Yojimbo, Batman, and the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers. But this newest crossover was fitting for our favorite Turtle Brothers, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles x Naruto.
It finally happened, the Heroes in a Half-Shell meet the Number One Hyperactive, Knucklehead Ninja, and Team Seven! Teenage Reporter, April O’Neil meets the Fifth Hokage, Tsunade, though it is not known what they were meeting about, which made the turtles curious. But, close behind were Shredder and the Foot Clan, who were interested in April’s visit too, and thought that she might hold the valuable information on mutation research being conducted by the scientist Baxter Stockman. With April caught between the forces of the Hidden Leaf Village and the Foot Clan, it can’t be long before the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles show up to lend her a hand!
This special collaboration brought together IDW Publishing and Manga publisher, Viz Media for a unique story idea that blended the strange world of TMNT and the Shonen-style world of Naruto, bringing in writer Caleb Goellner (Sonic the Hedgehog, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Nation, Ghost Cage), and artist Hendry Prasetya (Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, Power Girl, God Complex). Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles x Naruto felt like a filler episode from the TV Anime, one that isn’t considered Canon to the series, but it is still an entertaining story that will make fans of both stories very happy.
An important note to point out for those who aren’t familiar with this is that it collects issues One-Four (which are available in Digital and your LCS). With two worlds colliding, it was a fascinating idea to make New York City into the Big Apple Village, we eventually see something similar later on with the Boruto series in terms of cityscape and in size. As I mentioned previously, while it feels like a filler episode from the anime, I enjoyed the turtles working together with Team 7, but it felt like a missed opportunity to include Orochimaru and Kabuto in this crossover. The reason is that Orochimaru has always been a character who has experimented not only with Jutsu, but also on human test subjects, not to mention using Baxter Stockman, or Shredder, and the Foot Clan to use the Ooze to topple both the Leaf Village and Big Apple Village. Aside from my lengthy observation, writer Caleb Goellner brings his TMNT knowledge to the table and does a great job in being able to reflect each member of Team 7’s personalities perfectly. My only complaint about the story was that it felt rushed, not enough time to build the world around them.
The Turtles and Team Seven may come from different worlds, but each character shares similarities, including Naruto, who shares the same pain the brothers do in terms of wanting the world to accept him for who he is, and view him not as a threat but a friend. Artist Hendry Prasetya’s artwork was one of the best things about this short series, with his illustrative detail in buildings (including how well New York’s transformation into a village was a fascinating idea), and with how many crossovers the turtles have, they seem to find a way to blend in perfectly. The character designs were fascinating, paying homage to Asian and American culture, Naruto, Sakura, and Sasuke’s appearances offered a clue as to where the trio would be, which is after the Chunin Exams, possibly before the Sasuke Retrieval Arc. In terms of the fights, they were well illustrated, especially the showdown with Shredder (my favorite crossover showdown!)
My final thoughts on this story.. whether you are a fan of either series, or perhaps a new reader, this is the perfect book to add to your TMNT and Naruto Collection.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
First of all thanks to Netgalley and IDW for giving me a copy of this. Naruto is one of my favorite series of all time (I'm currently rewatching Shippuden actually and planning a Sasuke cosplay photoshoot for myself) and TMNT is a franchise I've liked since I was a kid but never really dove into deeply so this was genuinely a real treat. It's a solid 4 stars and the only reason I couldn't give it a full 5 is because there's some things from the Naruto cast that don't make a lot of sense.
I did LOVE opening the first page though and seeing Kakashi's hands with a ninja scroll and the STATUE OF LIBERTY in the background, I started giggling so hard my friend I was with asked me if I was okay. It was also super nostalgic for me to see Team 7 as genin again and I love looking at them in this art style I would 100% buy a poster print.
Where things fell apart for me a bit was actually Naruto communicating with Kurama (the Nine-Tails) because as a genin he doesn't really do that since he doesn't see Kurama as an intelligent creature but just as a monster who attacked his home and is now sealed inside him and ruined the life he could have had. Similarly towards the end in the big fight with Shredder (which was an incredible reveal btw) Naruto says he wants to fight with his own strength against Shredder while literally using the Nine-Tails cloak which is explicitly Kurama's chakra and not Naruto's own strength. Also Naruto being able to create a Rasengan without the use of a shadow clone is something he's unable to do until Shippuden. But for me that's minor in comparison.
I did really enjoy this overall. The fight sequences were a lot of fun, even if I did find the combo attack names a little corny but I get it, it's on brand. I also have to shout out the author and artist for actually not making Sakura useless, bending the "lore" a bit and giving her that strength she cultivated in her training with Tsunade was really nice to see and that's coming from a reformed Sakura-hater. I also snorted as Leonardo absolutely clocked Sasuke and his vengeance seeking from a mile away.
Still, I stand by my solid 4/5 rating. This is very fun if you're a Naruto fan since so much of this revolves around them interacting with the turtles, it's a jackpot if you're a fan of both Naruto and TMNT.
I requested this book for an ARC because both TMNT and Naruto are IPs I enjoy. And I love comics. I knew based on the cover art and description it would be set in the early days of Team 7. I didn't think it would canon, and that was ok. But I wasn't expecting the Turtles, April, and Splinter to be part of Naruto's world. I assumed the crossover would have the Turtles coming to Naruto's world via a portal or something. Now, this didn't happen in the Batman comic crossover either, but it made more sense because both the Turtles and Batman are in the modern world in cities. So I could believe them being in the same universe and suspend disbelief.
But it threw me that the comic meshed the Turtles into Naruto's world. It didn't feel like it worked to me. I would have liked if the description explained this somehow. But, to be fair, it didn't explain that the Turtles were transported to Naruto's world either. This is just an issue for me, and may not be for others.
Another point against it for me is the age ranking. The dialogue strikes me as more for younger kids. Maybe 8 to 12 year olds. Teen to YA is a stretch. Additionally, it's a bit of a surprise that this book is geared to teens or kids at all, as the age groups for these shows are mostly in their 20s or much older.
This isn't a bad story. The art is really great. And outside of the Turtles feeling misplaced, it's a good comic. I would recommend it if the nature of the crossover and the reading coming off as for younger children does not bother you.
Oh, this was fun. Though I haven't much read or watched anything from Naruto or TMNT in years, this took me right back to my childhood. This was such a fun crossover. The story is very simple: April O'Neil needs an escort team to take her back from Leaf Village to the Big Apple Village. Enter Team 7: Kakashi, Naruto, Sasuke and Sakura. In the trip back, they are attacked by the Foot clan and later by the Turtles who think April has been kidnapped by the Leaf Village ninjas. When everything is clear and stories are shared, they end up teaming up to fight shredder and eat pizza.
Even though it's a very straightforward mission with a lot of fights, I love how Caleb Goellner got to connect these characters with a lot of parallels. I really liked how the origin stories were shared, how fun the team up between team 7 and the ninjas were and how the heart of the story is to protect family. Also, the art style is so good! I loved the character designs, how the fights were drawn, the different powers moves, I really loved how fresh it felt and how the world of the Turtles really mashed well with Naruto. It was just an awesome work by Hendry Prasetya and Raúl Angulo.
If you are a fan of these two properties, give this one a chance! I didn't know I needed to see Naruto skating with Mikey or eating pizza for the first time, and it was so much fun.
Thanks to NetGalley and IDW Publishing for this e-ARC to review.
Crossover stories a never expected to be deep, they just need to be fun and showcase the characters from both franchises. This crossover book does just that. The story does what it needs to do to show off what fans love about both Naruto and TMNT. I actually liked that unlike some crossovers, some contrived reason for the two franchise characters to meet each other isn't created and this is just a version of the Naruto world that just has a "New York" where of course the Ninja Turtles exist! It was also a great idea to use Naruto and company as they are towards the start of that series.
The artwork is great, capturing both the dynamic action as well personality of the characters. The Prasetya does a great job of capturing both set of characters. Like all good TMNT crossovers, they have made a great Shredder design. Also like most TMNT crossovers, mutagen or ooze is a plot point though not used quite as well as something like the Batman or Masters of the Universe crossovers.
My only really cons for this book would be I would have liked to see how this version of "New York" is different since it belongs in the Naruto world. Also some kind of use of a Naruto villain for Shredder to work with like you would see in these types of crossover. Besides those two tiny cons, this book was better than I was expecting and a lot of fun.
I had such a good time with Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles x Naruto. Honestly, I’ve never read or watched anything Naruto before, so I wasn’t sure if I’d even get it. But the story is super easy to follow, and the characters come across clearly without needing a ton of backstory.
The first thing that hit me was the COLOUR. Every page just explodes off the paper. It’s wild how vibrant it looks, especially compared to other TMNT crossovers I’ve read. The TMNT/Batman books were dark and moody, TMNT/Stranger Things had that eerie, shadowy vibe, but this one? It’s like the art team turned the brightness all the way up, and it makes the fights feel huge and alive.
The Turtles sound like themselves, which is always important to me in these crossovers. Their personalities come through perfectly, and the banter feels right. And even though I didn’t know Naruto, I never felt lost. The mix of worlds worked way better than I expected.
Sure, some of the dialogue gets a little cheesy, but honestly, that’s part of the charm. It’s supposed to be fun, and it is. I was smiling the whole time, especially during the big team-up moments.
For me, this was one of the most entertaining TMNT crossovers in years. Bright, bold, and just plain fun. Even as a total Naruto newbie, I had a blast. 4.5 stars for me - rounded up!
Thanks to NetGalley and IDW for the advanced review copy.
This was nostalgic -- I watched both TMNT and Naruto as a kid/teen -- and so enjoyable in that respect, but ultimately felt pretty empty. It just had no substance. The storyline was basically "they meet" and didn't really go beyond that or even go further than surface-level interactions between the teams (although I thought at some points that it might have been trying to). There were some hints that certain characters could have understood each other and gotten along on a deeper level -- I especially liked the Michaelangelo and Naruto combination -- but the story really failed to delve into the massive amount of potential.
The art was great - very engaging and dynamic and colorful, with the characters displaying a wide range of expressions and emotions. It's definitely a comic book style and that works. I really loved all the varied compositions and shapes of panels the artist used.
Overall, read it for the nostalgia hit and the art, but not for the story itself. However, I really hope that there will be further adventures that really dig into the story potential. If there are, I'll definitely be checking them out.
*Thanks to IDW Publishing for providing an early copy for review.
Everyone knows I love Naruto and I have been keeping my eye on this series for a long time now. It was a pleasure to read this dattebayo! Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles x Naruto is a crossover between Naruto and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. For starters the idea is amazing! The whole thing actually works and mostly this comic is about the two teams meeting and fighting together against Shredder of course. The comic is quite action based, which is a bummer, since I would've liked to have more history to back this up. The meeting of our heroes felt slightly lazy and I wish Goellner had used more time to build the plot and how we got where we eventually got. Especially Naruto's part was lacking if you don't know the story by heart. More time was used to present the turtles.
The art is superb and everything looks so extremely fine, wow. Because of that it was a true pleasure to read this, even though the plot was lacking. I hope we get more into the Naruto side if this series continues, and I do hope it's not a "monster of the week" type of series. We want more depth! We want more everything! We love both Naruto and Turtles! Moar! Moar!
Naruto and his crew have been charged with getting April O'Neil safely back to Big Apple Village. It should be an easy escort job, but when is anything with Naruto easy?
As a lifelong TMNT fan can I just say oh my gosh, thank you, thank you, thank you! I thought the Batman crossover was fun, but Naruto was truly the perfect crossover for my turtle boys. I could gush about this book all day, but let's hit the high points, shall we?
The storyline was excellent with similar threads from other TMNT versions, the art was fantastic, and the two worlds meshed perfectly. The character dynamics and interactions were spot on, and I particularly loved watching Raphael and Sakura bond. Naruto's relationship with the nine-tailed fox trapped inside him was captivating and eerie. I absolutely loved April's design.
I hope this is a series that will continue or at least be revisited a few more times. It really was the perfect crossover, and so well done I cannot wait to share it with my kids. I know they'll love it, too.
(This was an ARC read, and one of the best I've had the privilege of reading. Thanks again!)
Surrounded by polemics, the crossover between Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Naruto has always felt as a money grabber move more than a heartfelt tribute to both these legends of comics! In reality, what I have read, thanking a lot IDW Publishing and Viz Comics and NetGalleys for this opportunity, is, without a doubt, a theatre of archetypes in which powermoves and iconic lines and designs of characters are very entertaining, thanks to well represented fights and an heartfelt, nostalgic narrative. What I have to say is that the full writing feels like a generic Sonic Comic, a thing enhanced by the fact that the writer has worked for the quoted issues, and there is the true intention of limiting the possibilities of the setting working in a very safe spot. This is a quotes fest, and the exciting modern look may save some parts of a strange proposal inside today's publication world.
I guess it doesn't surprise me much that the TMNT are crossing over with Naruto, but WTH man, that is weird.
Anyway, the story seems to take place in the world of Naruto, with adapted versions of the turtles into that world. Same backstory regarding the mutagen and Shredder.
The story is a by-the-books crossover; April travels to Konoha to request the aid of Lady Tsunade and is sent back with Kakashi and Team 7 to New York, where they meet with the turtles.
Our main enemy is Shredder. But sadly, I didn't really see much of the Naruto flavor here. Yes, he shows up and performs his jutsus, and they all fight the same enemy and eat pizza and all. But if I'm completely honest, this crossover means nothing. No interesting interactions aside from Kakashi knowing who Hamato Yoshi was. The characters are there, but there is nothing that makes them really connect.
It feels like a TMNT story with Naruto as a special guest. At least the Naruto-inspired turtle gear looks nice.
Naruto, is probably one of the most well known anime/manga of all time. It is a story of a boy ninja who dreams of becoming hokage (village leader), the strongest ninja of them all.
TMNT is the world’s most famous group of anthropomorphic turtles.
As a fan of both IPs, I was delighted to see this crossover.
I have been intending to read this since it came out and finally got the chance by visiting my local library.
Story wise, the TMNT seem to exist in the Naruto universe already, so there is no dimension hopping. The story is sense within the Naruto cannon. The story is short and snappy, not too deep but overall serves the purpose of brining the protagonist’s together.
The action and overall art is amazing, some of the best I have ever seen, Jorge Jimenez taking the best of both manga and American comic books into one.
I’d highly recommend this to anyone who’s familiar with rather property as a fun read.
Ninja turtles and the ninja fox boy? Should be a match made in heaven. Unfortunately, TMNT x Naruto plays it too safe to really be anything better than just 'okay'.
The premise is fun, with the Turtles hailing from Big Apple Village rather than Manhattan, and the Shredder's Foot Clan being more of a threat than usual, but everything else is just as you'd expect. The Turtles fight Team Seven, realise it's a misunderstanding, and team-up to beat up Shredder. It's fine, but it feels like both properties were like 'you can't do anything except THIS' and it hinders them from doing literally anything outside of the bare basics of a superhero team-up.
I wasn't expecting this to reinvent the wheel, far from it, but it doesn't even think perhaps some new tyres might have been interesting. It's solid enough for fans of either property, but it's very much style over substance.
This story was actually terrible and the characters were represented as if the writer had watched the first two episodes of Naruto and a few from one TMNT series for research and called it a day😭 loaded with nonsense and cringey inauthentic moments. Still, I loved it! Just seeing the characters share pages together was super cool and exciting, and a quick dumb story that doesn’t overstay its welcome is almost refreshing in this instance. Besides, the art and coloring by Henry Prasetya and Raúl Angulo respectively was actually fantastic. Like, really really gorgeous. It was incredible to see a new depiction of the Naruto cast in this style, and the designs for all of the turtles characters look amazing. This book is actually ridiculously nice to look at and it will certainly be reread for that reason. Regardless of the weak writing, I’m glad this series happened and I’m glad to own it!
I particularly liked how the TMNT can be re-imagined for many different properties, and they certainly fit right into the ninja-heavy Naruto.
I confess I'm not extremely familiar with Naruto - I watched a few episodes which it first aired on Cartoon Network (dating myself a lot here). That said, I didn't find myself at much of a disadvantage, and there was plenty of fun to be had with this read.
I was really impressed by the art by Hendry Prasetya, who did an excellent job blending the visual nature of both distinctive sets of characters as well as the breathtaking action sequences.
There were a few characters I was at a bit of a loss on - I couldn't tell if they were from TMNT, Naurato or an original creation, which was a bit frustrating.
Otherwise, however, I'd recommend it for either fan of the property.
Thanks to NetGalley and IDW Publishing for this ARC!
I've been a giant fan of Naruto since 2003, when the story started in the American Shonen Jump. Naturally, I was drawn to this book. What could have been an exciting side story was instead a somewhat lackluster experience. I know that (obviously) this story is not canon, but I was still very confused about where this story takes place in the Naruto timeline. Yeah, it was fun to see all of these legendary characters interacting with each other, but this payoff wasn't satisfactory. It all felt rushed. What could have (and honestly, should have) been an easy home run was a clumsy and disappointing effort.
Thank you NetGalley and IDW Publishing for the ARC!
The plot wasn't anything amazing per say, the standard Shredder story we know with Naruto slapped on it. It was still pretty fun to see the characters interact, and were close to their original counterparts. The art was AMAZING and the visuals were stunning. I wish we had gotten to see a bit more of the Naruto universe being involved in the book aside from just the main Team 7 cast, but hopefully in another volume it's more developed if they plan to make a continuation, since this seems to have concluded at a good spot.
I loved the idea of Naruto and TMNT teaming up, but the execution left much to be desired. No one gets much development, the characters all feel superficial, and it's all about the quips and silly jokes. The art is fun and there are a ton of very interesting splash pages, but it's not enough to save it from a lackluster, superficial story. Overall, an admirable attempt at combining two very different properties via the one thing they have in common, but not a hit with me.
Thank you to NetGalley and IDW Publishing for the advanced copy.
Thank you to netgalley and the publisher for providing the earc in exchange of an honest review
This was such a fun action packed read, the story is nothing special but the art is incredible and it's a really enjoyable comic. I loved seeing how the two teams of ninjas interacted and how the lores intersected.
