Cute but pointless "story" (really more like scenes) about a student who finds a merman and let's him live in his bathtub because... No reason, really. Tatsumi is a pushover and works extra hours to buy meat and pay for the high water and heat bills. It would make sense if Wakasa became a friend or lover, but he seems more like a high-maintenance pet. And the thing with Tatsumi's little sister wanting to marry him was icky and unnecessary.
I don't resent the time spent reading this but I won't continue unless someone says the story gets really interesting later.
4.5 stars. I am so happy that Seven Seas is publishing this one in English.
I loved the anime, so I was absolutely squealing when I heard about the manga being licensed. And now, after a long wait, the manga is finally out and I finally had a chance to read it!
I have to say it took me some time to read this one, this I can blame on two things, one a busy day, and two the fact that the anime followed the manga quite closely. So most if not all of the jokes were known to me, and I can tell you that a joke is fun once, maybe twice, but it gets pretty boring after that. I was still enjoying myself, and the manga is great, but I just knew most (if not all) of the stuff already.
Generally the men in this book are pretty hot (well if they are in the mood, since sometimes they don't look to yummy).
We have several characters, human and supernatural, and I love them all. We have Tatsumi, who is a teenager but doesn't really look or act like one. I like Tatsumi, though I feel sorry for him, if only he had known what he had dragged to his house. I love how serious he is, but also how fun he can be if he lets himself relax and have fun. Then we have our second main character, a merman named Wakasa, who is quite self-centred, an idiot, and also quite playful with the attention span of 1 second. I didn't always like him, as I found him a bit too self-centred at times, but in the later chapters he sees that Tatsumi is trying hard and tries to help out. I am glad that he changed in that way, it makes him a better character. Then we have an octopus, a jellyfish, a shellfish, Tatsumi's sister, and his friend (though he barely seems to be doing anything with said friend, but that might be because the manga is so centred on the bathroom).
There are various holidays that pass revenue. I really like that those were added to the story, it gives the feeling that time is really passing by and that it isn't standing still.
The art is gorgeous and I just love how everything (especially the men) are drawn. It is mostly 4-koma, but the story also continues in the normal manga way. I like that this was done, it gave a bit of variety.
All in all, this is one manga (and also anime) I would highly recommend. I will be eagerly waiting for the 2nd volume to be released!
Having a bad day and looking for some fluff to cheer you up? Look no further, because this manga is it. From the other reviews and the description, you learn a young high school boy finds and saves a merman who from then out, lives in his bath tub. I originally saw the anime through a streaming service a couple of seasons back and thoroughly enjoyed it. To be honest I did like the anime better just because the four panel presentation to me, doesn't always flow as well as an anime. There isn't many differences between the season out and the first volume. The only major critique I have about the series as a whole is Wakasa's personality can be a little grating at times when his behavior should be perceived as adorable. Overall is he adorable? Yes. A little annoying sometimes? Yeah. But if you like fluff and just feel good flirty romance between good looking men, check it out!
Me encanta! ♥ MT es demasiado bueno! Quiero saber de estos chicos *^* Por cierto, la hermanita de MT es demasiado weird.. Tiene un complejo de edipo del tamaño de un acoplado. >>.<<
Not gonna lie, it was kind of boring? And a little hard to read? But I do love Tatsumi as a character, and the idea still has so much potential - so I may read the second one, just to give it another chance. Maybe.
This adorable story involves a high-schooler, Tatsumi and his friend living in his own bathtub, the merman Wakasa. Tatsumi's life takes the weird turn when Wakasa moves in and his friends start coming over. The octopus, Takasu, the adorable jellyfish, Mikuni and their little snail friend, Maki. But not just the crazy hybrids, there's also Tatsumi's adorable little sister, Kasumi~! This story is full of heart-warming comedy and I just love it! Although it rarely updates, I still really love the plot. I recommend this for anyone who could read this in their spare time or just to simply read a chapter when you're taking a break from homework! By the way, Tatsumi's voice actor also does Haruka Nanase and Takasu's did our green-eyed perfection, Makoto Tachibana. Both from the swimming anime Free! Iwatobi Swim Club & Eternal Summer. You my ladies are welcome.
The second volume is also out but it hasn't been translated to English yet, but we need it! I HEARD THERE WERE MINI MIKUNIS AND A SHARK AND I NEEEEEEEEEEEEEED TO SEE THAT!!!!!!! I'm sorry, fangirl problems.
The anime is honestly better than the manga. First of all Seven Seas decided to edit out SOME of the Japanese SFX and they seem to do it arbitrarily in this manga. Which makes some of the scenes looks goofy. Next the manga is in a 4-koma style format which sometimes doesn't lend itself well to the action going on. Lastly the little sister is even more sexualized on this. Which is super gross since she's what 10 or something. I have no idea why the manga-ka decided to do her that way, unless they wanted to attract a male audience? Many people might mark this book as "yaoi" but it so isn't. It's almost a parody of yaoi with the poses and such that go on. Overall it was decent but there's not a real lot of deep plot and it's even more short on the slice of life side.
4 out of five because the little sister is sexualized and is essentially in love with her brother.... aside from that great art, cute episodes, almost wish you could buy the chapters separately... or read them at the end of other manga books. I feel the best way to enjoy this series is to read it in short little bursts instead of a long sit down.
Отборная наркомания. С одной стороны смешно, с другой хватаешься за голову читая все это. Хотя, если учитывать факт того, что писалось это все для развлечения аудитории, то простить можно. Но обещанного сёнэн-ая нет.
If I could tear out the scenes with the little sister character and burn them, I would. Other than that Merman in my Tub is a daft, fun series. The main character's begrudging kindness to the various visitors to his overcrowded bath just doesn't get old!
2⭐️ Collection of brief, casual adventures between a hs student and the merman (and merman’s friends) he lets live in his bathtub.
Sadly I found this a bit of a slog to get through. The art is pretty, but usually limits itself to a four-panel layout, which makes things less visually interesting. The plot itself is just a series of mini adventures, which is fine for a slice-of-life comedy like this, but sometimes even the storytelling within those mini adventures can feel scattershot. The comedy is fine, not awful, not perfect; it did get me to actually laugh at one point.
There’s hints/jokes at somewhat romantic tones between the main character and the merman, but since the main character is in high school and the merman is written to look like he’s in his 20s and is often referred to as ‘old,’ I’m not a fan of the pairing. Additionally, the main character’s little sister is romantically interested in him, her older brother, and there are multiple shenanigans centered on that, which are pretty uncomfortable to read through.
I still might dip into the second volume, or go back to read one chapter (the Halloween one was my favorite) in the future, but overall, this was kind of a disappointment for me.

Tatsumi is minding his own business when he comes across a stranger in need. He offers help only to end up with a merman in his bathtub with no intention of leaving.
Overall a fun read. I enjoyed the premise and loved the different characters that show up. The book consists of slice of life stories told in four-panel yonkoma-style. Great art.
I was weirded out by Tatsumi's sister though. I get her having a little crush on her brother, but wanting to bathe with him was weird and she's a bit sexualized in some images which was creepy.
Overall, I liked it. May keep reading to hold out for the shark character.
I absolutely love this series. It's a bit nontraditional in terms of a manga format, as it leans into much more of the standard comic strip style of things - this can take some getting used to for manga readers. However, the art is stunning, the characters are very lovable, creative, and interesting. I found this book to be a delight to read, and I'm pretty certain I couldn't wipe the grin off my face if I tried.
I found this more innocent style of comedy and wholesome themes to be incredibly refreshing for anime/manga comedy. I'd suggest it to anyone who enjoyed lighter themes and the "slice of life" style.
This is pure guilty pleasure indulgence made just for me. Please look away XD (Would give full five stars for peak enjoyment and occasional giggles if not for weird little sister side plot that is just off-color to be uncomfortable).
I love 4-koma so much, it reminds me of my childhood reading Lucky Star. In fact this whole manga has a sort of early 2010s nostalgia about it (probably because it was published around that time). I find it so cute, harmless, and enjoyable. Can't wait to keep reading!
A very cute, fluffy story to read on a nice day. Tatsumi putting up with the spoiled merman Wakasa and building a stronger friendship with him and all his fish people friends was very funny and sweet to read. I didn't really like Tatsumi's little sister, Kasumi, because of the weird relationship they kept pushing but putting that aside I really did enjoy the little stories! The art was very adorable and I simply enjoyed taking my time and reading it.
I started reading this manga series last year. This review will cover books 1-5. I am currently on book 6. It is an easy read that had me smiling by the pool on lazy summer days. The characters were beyond lovable, but sometimes I feel bad for Tatsumi. He works too hard. I love the jellyfish! I felt like I needed to tack that on.
This story is silly and sweet in a perfect combination. Watched the anime (one season that is more or less volume 1) and just loved. Ordered the following volumes 2-6 since they have been released in English. Thank goodness!
I'm going to go ahead and classify this as yaoi for my purposes though its more action/comedy and vaguely shoujo. Its just a collection of short stories and the anime is so friggin' funny and hilarious I've watched it several times but I love it!!
It's a fun story but there's not really much substance to it. There is no plot to speak of, but it is fun to read. A friend of mine said it is a really soft yaoi but I have yet to see any inkling of a relationship beyond friendship.
I watched the anime a few years ago, and I loved it! The manga is even better! I was finally able to find it at a bookstore, so now I understand more of the story. The chapters are short, and it's mostly just silly stuff going on, but it's still worth reading for something fun.
This was such a super cute manga! I thought the art style was pretty and interesting. I loved the introduction of each of the characters. They get up to some very creative and funny antics even though they are pretty limited to the bathtub.
After watching the anime, did you really think I wouldn't review the manga?
Honestly, this is a great source of laughter if you need a happiness boost. How else will you keep a merman alive outside of letting him live in your bathtub?
All the sea creatures are so adorable. I was hoping this was a merman BL but it's not really looking that way. Also I am choosing to look the other way on the little sister stuff even though that one panel was pretty sus.👀🧐
