#1 New York Times bestselling author John C. Maxwell can teach you how to turn any situation into a winning experience.
No one wins at everything they try. But any setback, whether professional or personal, can become a step forward with the right tools and mindset to turn loss into a gain. Drawing on nearly 50 years of leadership experience, Maxwell provides a roadmap for winning by examining the eleven elements that constitute the "DNA" of people who succeed in the face of problems, failure, and losses. Learning is not easy during down times. It takes discipline to do the right thing when something goes wrong. As John Maxwell often points out, experience itself isn't the best teacher; evaluating, understanding, and growing from your experience is. By examining how that process works, you can learn how to take risks and tackle challenges with a successful person's outlook. Derived from material previous published in Sometime You Win -- Sometimes You Learn .
John Calvin Maxwell is an American author, speaker, and pastor who has written many books, primarily focusing on leadership. Titles include The 21 Irrefutable Laws of Leadership and The 21 Indispensable Qualities of a Leader. Some of his books have been on the New York Times Best Seller List.
This book was written by John C.Maxwell. Some quotes from this book which I like: 1. "winning isn't everything but learning is." 2. "For people who put winning ahead learning life will be difficult. For people who put learning ahead of winning, life will be fulfilling, and they likely to be rewarded with success as a by-product of their growth." 3. "Success is how high you bounce back after you hit the bottom [General George S. Patton]." These thoughts and some stories (except his stories) are not too new to me but the way he wrote and arrange the ideas make it valuable. After reading this book I am grateful for difficulties, I expect more problems - chance for learning.

I want to start out by saying that I am a huge fan of John C Maxwell and if you have not picked up anything by him then you are cheating yourself. In this book he really focuses on the key essentials to being successful. I loved his take on humility and thought it was great that he put that right up front. I feel this is key to any success. He addresses other topics but my second favorite topic was on failure. This is a short read and well worth taking the time to read it. One last thought from the book, paraphrased: There are two creatures in each of us. An eagle who wishes to soar and a hippopotamus that wants to wallow in the mud. Which will you give the reins in your life?
This book is great motivation & encouragement! The author addresses things that limit our chances of “winning”. He writes on humility, maturity, gratitude, intentional growth, and hope, as well as victimization, avoiding pain, and “blame storming”. He explains that growth is a slow process not to be rushed, by using the example that while an apple a day may keep the doctor away; eating 7 apples in one day will probably result in a stomach ache. We rush to reach goals quickly, this book reminded me that the process to reaching my goals is as critical as the goal itself. I plan to read more books by J. Maxwell.
this book I learnt for many thing the first lesson I learnt is 1.the most important person you ever talk to is yourself,so be careful what you say. second lesson I learnt is 2.the most important person you will love is your self,so be careful what you do. third lesson I learnt is 3.the people who succeed in life don't try to escape pain, loss or unfairness. fourth lesson I learnt is 4.the responsibility is the most important ability that person can possess.
you must know || we first make our habits and then our habits make us ||
I expected this book to simply be a list of what one must do to be successful. I did not expect it to include advice on the application of recovering from failures and losses. Often, we separate and segregate the ideologies of success snd failure. The suggestions that John Maxwell presented in this book are consistent with those from his many other books and are supported by quotes from other distinguished and accomplished individuals throughout history.
Possibly the best John Maxwell book I've read so far! So much of this one is focused on our perceptions when we encounter adversity and setbacks. John Maxwell is a patient teacher, showing us how to use our losses as stepping stones instead of tombstones. I experienced this title as an audiobook, but I'll be acquiring a hard copy soon. This is worth regular re-reads.
not what i thought it would be ... thought this was more of a business ish book... ended up being more of an inspirational read? self help ish book? but definitely recommended to those going through a tough time in their life or a negative bout and needing some encouragement! good quick read :)
Great book if you're looking for an inspirational quote book or if this is your first self-help read. If you don't fall into either of these categories, then you can skip it and be perfectly fine in life.
This is a little gem. I love the thought that winning isn't everything learning is. No matter how small we learn as long as we learn we grow and that is true success to better ourselves and everything around us betters.
Came as a recommendation from a trusted source, and I am a sucker for the self-improvement genre, but I stopped at five chapters. Very authoritarian vibe and no sense of humility. Not a my teacher in this season at least.
Incredible insight and eye opening. John C Maxwell does an incredible job really putting you into a different perspective of life and viewing your losses and failures as the greatest challenges. HIGHLY RECOMMEND to someone trying to change the way the think and process!
I couldn’t help but feel like this was a shallow book that was unaware of the real reality of the world. A lot of corny “real eyes realize reality lies” type of writing. Author failed to make any compelling realizations.
Loving this book so far!! Great quotes!! Great questions. Evaluation. It’s making me think and I think I wish I had a hard copy so I can underline the points he is making.
The value that he writes was through to my mind and heart! What I love the most is the part that we have to learn from the failures and also don't forget to always learn and learn.
