Judging it for what it is, a tie-in game-based novel combined with a small pick-your-path gamebook, I found this truly enjoyable and worth top marks. The characters are interresting, and as developed as you could expect in such a short text, the worldbuilding interresting considering its roots.
Good for nostalgia. Horrific prose and character development. The extreme overuse of adjectives on every page distracts from the narrative. Would have worked better as a short story.
I never knew there were fiction and game books written about the HeroQuest boardgame. So I was surprised to find two such books at a used bookstore in Manchester, UK. A decent read, and the game book at the back was entertaining.
Surprisingly, this was actually very good. Short but every chapter counted. And quite sophisticated for saying it was a tie-in. Dave Morris, well done, sir.
