We like this book's focus on simplicity and quality of ingredients, although find that at times Rocco misses the mark a bit in his quest for minimalism. For example, in one recipe we had to double the number of cherry tomatoes he suggests before we got any kind of recognizable flavour. Similarly, we were excited to try his thin crust pizzas but found them on the dry side. However, we have learned to adjust a few of his recipes and overall it has become a regular resource for us. A great companion to his other book, 'David Rocco's Dolce Vita' that manages to stay fresh and doesn't repeat concepts.

One of the best. Tried about 20 recipes - each one a winner. There simply isn't enough nights in a week to try everything.

Full disclosure; he was promoting his book while presenting a cooking class for some 'rich wives', I was there assisting the real chef and all David did was put it all together in front of everyone to make it look like he cooked everything himself, and he didn't even do that right. I suspect he is just a frontman in his shows while other people do the work behind the scenes in whatever endeavour he is a part of including this book. Because of my experience with this, I find this book disingenuous even though there are decent recipes even though I have to change ingredients to fit my vegan lifestyle.

This is a gorgeous book (and the author is not bad looking either!). When I stumbled upon this book at the book store during a browsing marathon, I just couldn't put it down and walk away. I HAD TO HAVE IT. Lately, I have been trying to satisfy my book lust by taking pictures of the books instead of actually buying every book that I want, but that trick didn't work in this case. It's sort of cross between a travelogue and a cookbook. Many of the recipes are simple with just a few ingredients. David is the parent of twins, so that might explain this! He also includes a short story about many of the recipes, as well as tips that he has learned over the years.
He also shows up on The Cooking Channel with his show "David Rocco's Dolce Vita" and there is another cookbook that goes by this title. Warning: these books are both beautiful and useful, but pricey.
One of David's often used quantity abbreviations is "QB", or "quanto basta" in Italian, which translates to: "as much as you need" or "as much as you want".
Words to live by.

I didn't actually try these recipes...I couldn't stop looking at the pictures long enough to head to the store to buy the ingredients to make anything. However, this is a very beautiful book and I know just who would love to make a few Italian meals. And hopefully, I can taste them!

What a lovely cookbook! Beautiful photography. Reminds me of how my mother-in-law cooked, which I miss. I picked it up at the library, and may consider just buying a copy!
