4.5 BRILLIANT STARS!
Wow wow wow, this book! It honestly blew me away! I wasn’t expecting much from this ARC, I’d never heard of the author before and I figured this would be the typical YA fantasy romance, but I was completely wrong.
A Crown of Echoes was fascinating and hilarious and touching and swoon-worthy! I know it sounds super dirty from the quote in the synopsis, but it was actually really touching and gorgeous, and I really enjoyed the book. The main character was badass as hell and didn’t let anyone tell her what to do, and the side characters were really fun and sweet! The world-building was beautifully done and the fantasy was unique and intriguing, made completely captivating by Quinn’s narration style, told from the POV of the MC. And the friendship between the queens was beautiful! I love a book with a well-told platonic relationship as well as romance, and this book had both of those things, both written brilliantly.
I honestly cannot wait to read book #2, I’m so glad that the author also provided ARC readers with an ARC of the second book, A Crown of Reveries! That cliffhanger almost killed me…. I’m so curious to learn about Windley’s past! And I’m so excited to read more about Merrin, she’s one of the most brilliant narrator/main characters that I’ve had the pleasure of reading about. Her character development was superb…

That’s my girl! I also really liked Merrin’s relationship with Windley, their flirting and banter was absolutely hilarious.
“‘I am a royal guard, I’ll have you know.’” The corner of his mouth was beginning to curl. ‘Therefore, I only flirt with queens.’”
“‘Too bad they never flirt with you back. Rejection hurts’”
God, Merrin’s sass was PRICELESS. I also really loved the character development of the side characters! They may not have been as important to the story as Merrin and Windley, but they still got plenty of page-time, which I really loved.
All in all, this was absolutely amazing. I’m completely blown away, and I will most definitely be reading more of Brindi Quinn’s books! Thank you so much to the author and TBR & Beyond Tours for the free copy!

This book is quite short, since it’s 250 pages long. I usually read 400+ pages book(s) but ‘A Crown of Echoes’ didn’t feel that shorter than I expected it to be. Hey, at least it started off very nicely, meeting Queen Merrin with her opening lines: “This story would be better if it were told by Beau. Beautiful, regal, freckled Beau. But alas, captive ones, you’ll be getting the oversharing, less eloquent Merrin version of this story.”
This story is written in a unique style that I haven’t read from any other books. It was like even though we are reading the story, Merrin was actually ‘saying‘ her own fairy tale. The paragraphs/sentences where Merrin was talking as if she already knew what was going to happen were quite interesting.
We definitely know the two queens personalities from their first impressions in this book. When I meet new characters, I need some time to get to know them and decide if they are going to be loved by me. But I knew I would love Merrin❤️ Queen Beau is quite the elegant and beautiful queen we could imagine her as well but Merrin was different. She had a wild heart (along with her hair) and I just fell in love with her story.
Windley’s snippy and secretive personality made me love him a lot. He is such a badass and radiates ‘bad boy’ off him. And what’s there not to love about him? He is always there for Merrin and the sizzling friendship + romance is always there! I am not a fan of friends-to-lovers trope but that has been change when I was reading about Windley’s little affection towards Merrin. She was oblivious to them (I was shouting at the book to make Merrin notice more of Windley) but it was always there. Merrin thinking of Windley a bit, Windley (somehow) making Merrin happy and being supportive. Those two characters made me laugh and cry a lot (;
Other characters, Albie and Rafa just felt like they were there in the scenes, but didn’t catch my interest a lot. Sure, Albie is like a father to Merrin and Rafa is a secretive guard but they weren’t just outshinning to me.
There are so many secrets, twists, emotions and the plots get bigger and bigger as we read through. There are so many secrets (and the ending, oh my) here and there along with some ‘unusual’ magical abilities from the characters.

I was sent a copy of this book for review.
Merrin isn’t your standard queen. She drinks with her guards, rides a feisty stag called Ruckus and wears britches instead of her Queenly gowns unless she absolutely has to. When her fellow Queen Beau from a neighbouring queendom goes missing, she figures out that Beau is still alive and has been kidnapped. She demands to be part of the rescue team along with her Knight Sir Ablie, her guard Rafe who has magic powered by the moon and Queen Beau’s guard Windley whose mysterious magic enables him to change his hair colour with his mood and his physical touch seduces those around him
While travelling to save Beau, Merrin discovers she has been gifted with her own magical abilty to talk to the dark shadows called Echoes. This frightens her at first but grows in confidence as she learns to wield it. She also discovers more about the flirty and intriguing Windley which leads to them both facing the truth of their growing attraction.
But secrets are rife within the group and as the story unfolds these secrets lead Merrin into untold danger and force her to harness her powers and embrace her strong, independent streak to become more than a figure head and instead make a difference in her world. Will Merrin and her companions be in time to save Beau or will the enemy be too strong to fight?
I thoroughly enjoyed this book from start to finish. It had creative world building that was easy to follow and not just an info drop that bombards the reader. The characters were fleshed out and their personalities really shown within the pages. Merrin was caring, strong and courageous. She didn’t let the fact that she was a woman or a Queen stop her from trying to save her friend. Windley was a perfectly delicious flirt and I loved that he could change his hair colour at will(if only I could do the same). Their banter was top-notch, hilarious and kept the sexual tension going strong throughout the story. I loved everything about this book and the ending was a twist I didn’t see coming. I look forward to reading Book 2.

A Crown of Echoes is the first book in the New Adult fantasy romance series by the same name from author Brindi Quinn. I really enjoyed this book, and I can't wait to continue on with this series. January has been an odd reading month for me. I have either LOVED books or really didn't like them at all, so I was a little nervous when I first picked up A Crown of Echoes because I had such high hopes for this book. I loved everything a bout it's first impression- it has a beautiful cover, the summary sounds like a fantasy book that is right up my alley. And I am now happy to report that A Crown of Echoes falls into the love it category! This book was great, and I am super excited to continue on with the series!
In A Crown of Echoes we meet our main character, Queen Merrin who goes out in search of her friend, and Queen of a neighboring kingdom- Queen Beau. First of all, I loved seeing Queens that are friends with each other. What a nice change of pace. Merrin is the type of main character that I love! She is loyal and strong and delightful to read about. I loved seeing a free spirit as a queen. Merrin felt like a fresh and unique main character, and I can't wait to see what is in store for her in the next book!
I also really enjoyed the romance in A Crown of Echoes between Merrin and Windley. The romance was just as vibrant and exciting as all of the characters present in the story, which is really saying something because Merrin is a life force all on her own! I'm very excited to learn more about the world, folklore and magic associated with the lands in the next books. It is super interesting and I feel like Brindi Quinn has so much more in store for us in the coming novels. If you are looking for a fast paced fantasy romance with vibrant characters, look no further than the Crown of Echoes series! I really enjoyed this book and need to read the sequel ASAP.

i am unsure how to feel about this one. i don’t feel attached to any of the characters, the dialogue is kind of corny at times, instead of “kingdom” it is referred to as a “queendom,” and the FMC never really got a description which is actually driving me insane. all i have to go off of is hair like a lions mane and the art that was included. however, the art depicts very tight ringlet curls (3C probs) which i would not call a lions mane.
merrin is…interesting. she neglects her job of being a literal queen to a very real and thriving kingdom, to go play in the woods w the guy she has a crush on to go find her best friend. don’t you have people for that? abandoning your entire kingdom for a character we barely know, did not endear me as a reader to merrin’s cause. and she all of the sudden wants to throw herself into danger all the time because what kind of leader would she be if she couldn’t do what she asked her GUARDS TO DO! ma’am, be so forreal right now. she also gets “betrayed,” and immediately forgives. finally some tension, and it is gone in the turn of the page.
the writing and maturity level of the characters also felt very YA. the romance was juvenile. i feel like things need to get a little darker, with higher stakes for me to feel like this is NA. i do not really understand why this is written as almost a letter to the readers. it was like the FMC was telling the story of what happened to the reader instead of letting the story unfold with the reader. i found that odd, and wish that as a reader i got to go on the journey with the characters. like we knew something was up with rafe from the beginning, because we are told that. i would have preferred to figure that out myself through inference and context clues. i felt like i was being spoon fed.
i started to get intrigued towards the end, so i will pick up book two. i am hoping it picks up, i just had a feeling it was going to do a TOG and start very YA, but become more serious as the series unfolds. here’s to hoping!

4.25 stars for me - and I expect I'll love the next books of this series!
This is a lush fantasy world, and one that I enjoyed! I found myself just breezing right through this first book, the pace is quick and to the point. I really enjoyed the characters and the feelings of a found family supporting each other as they're on a quest to rescue Beau, one of the queens of the realm.
There is a slow burn between Queen Merrin and and Windley, who is part of the other queen's royal guard. There is SO much more to learn about Windley, I cannot wait to learn more about his past and powers.
I really loved the last quarter of this, when things really seemed to kick it up a notch as far as danger and the overall story. I'm definitely intrigued and am happy I can dive right into the second book now.

I absolutely loved this book.
The world building is stunning and the cast of main characters are beautifully fleshed out making me care so much about all of them.
As the 4 main characters undertake a quest to find a kidnapped queen the bond they share is so special. That makes the lies and betrayals so much more painful when they occur.
There is forbidden love, undying loyalty, incredibly witty and humouress banter and many challenges to face on the quest.
I tore through this book in 2 days as each chapter left me wanting more. The book also finishes on a cliffhanger and I’m so invested in these characters that I need to read the whole series.

So first of before I start writing this review, can we just wait a moment to take a look at this beautifull cover. I love the vibe it's giving me and it does gave away the vibe of the story it selve. So back to the review, let me start by saying that I absolutely loved the characters in this book. We meet both queens in the beginning of the book, and the difference between them are beautifully discribed.
Beau is the one that is kind, sweet but mostly very regal. Merrin is the one that is free spirited and is kind of carefree. When Beau reveals a secret to Merrin, that is where the story really begins for me. I loved both of the characters, but Merrin will be my favorite queen. I love the free spirit thing she has going on, but also the way she rules here queendom is very nice. One of my favorite characters will be Windley, as you all know me by now, I do love me some badboy vibes, and Windley is defenitley giving me that vibe. He is snarky and a bit mysterious. And the way he always forget to call Merin queen is just hilarious. So the other two characters that are in the book are Albie and Rafe. Albie is the protected kind for Merin it's almost like a father figure, and I love that but at some points I disagreed on the things he said. Rafe is one you don't get a lot of info of. So he is kind of mysterious, and I liked that.
The story
The one thing that is very nice in the story is that the world building is amazing. The magic system will reveal itself through out the story, and you start to understand it piece by piece. We only took a glimpse of the word around the characters, it feels like there is much more to it then is revealed in this first book, even Merins queendom seems te have surten potential. So if I take a look at the first part of the book, it was very well writen. You get to know the main characters right in the beginning so you know what to expect from them. I was reading and all of a sudden I was on page 60 so that is a good sign. For the middle part, I think this is very well done. It is never boring and there is action in every corner in the story. The last part killed me, I wanted to read more of Merrin and Winley and find out more of this world, but I guess I have to wait a bit longer for that.

My conclusion is that I loved this book. I love the characters and the writing style. That is why I gave it a 4 star rating. This book will be publiced on 11th of June so you guys have to wait a bit more, but I can tell you, this book is amazing.

It's that time again! Brindi Quinn has just released a new novel, once again bringing fans back to a fantasy world of her making. A Crown of Echoes is the first novel in a new series of the same name, one that is set in a magical land of intrigue and danger.
Queen Merrin is one of several queens in her realm. In her mind, she may not act like a perfect queen, but at least she sincerely cares for those she is in charge of. She also cares deeply for at least one of her fellow queens, Beau.
That makes Beau's disappearance all the more devastating for Merrin. Now she'll go through whatever length necessary to save her fellow queen and friend. Even if it means strolling through patches of dark magic and woods.

A Crown of Echoes is a thrilling fantasy novel unlike any others out there. It is the tale of magic and friendship. Of crowns and love. It takes the concept of realms and magic and throws it into a whole new adventure.
Queen Merrin is bright and alive – a refreshing change for somebody with the title of queen. She's vibrant and passionate and still feels very young in many ways. Yet none of that was enough to stop her from starting this journey.
I've noticed that many of Brindi Quinn's characters tend to be bright, compassionate, and caring. Yet they always also have their own spin to make them stand out even in that format. Merrin is wild and is accurately compared to a lioness on more than one occasion.
The worldbuilding for this new series is on-point, which didn't surprise me at all. While we've only been offered a glimpse into a couple of the realms, it feels like there is so much more to this world. Even Merrin's own realm feels like there is a hidden depth to it, and that is one that we see the most.
As for the magical system? That alone was enough to get my curiosity going. I'm looking forward to seeing what Quinn reveals in future novels. Though what was portrayed here was tied so carefully with the lore of the world, and thus it carried weight.
Naturally, there's a romantic plot as well. That's hinted at in every description of the book, and it does not let down here. It starts off subtle but quickly goes from slow-burn to full romance, with a few surprises here and there along the way.
All things considered, it was absolutely worth the wait to get to read A Crown of Echoes. Brindi Quinn is easily one of my favorite indie authors, and I always treasure her releases. In fact, I may have bought this book digitally to read it asap, only to also buy a physical copy to add to my collection (don't judge me!). I can't wait for the rest of this series!

I recieved an e-arc of Crown of Echos from TBR and beyond tours. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
So first off.... can we just take a moment to appreciate this absolute stunner of a book cover? I know we always say never judge a book by its cover but well... that's why they're there 😂
This is a short book of 250 pages.
Synopsis: Queen Merrin might be the least queenly queen in all the realms. After all, queens don't typically sneak out at night to drink with their guards. When her best friend and neighboring queen, Beau, goes missing, Merrin won't leave rescue to the knights. She sets out from the civilized world and into the wilds to retrieve her lost friend, but with ancient hexes, stolen power, and a mountain of giants' bones, Merrin stumbles into something much greater than a simple rescue mission. Get ready for a swoony whirlwind of dark magic and forbidden romance, as Merrin finds strength in the whispers of the forest and comfort in the arms of a guard with tantalizing abilities.

I loved the opening line, "This story would be better if it were told by Beau. Beautiful, regal, freckled Beau. But alas, captive ones, you’ll be getting the oversharing, less eloquent Merrin version of this story."
We meet both Queens in the first chapter, and get a sense of their personality. Beau is regal but friendly and sweet to Merrin. Merrin seems carefree and free spirited. Beau reveals a secret to Merrin that carries on throughout the story.
I loved the characters in this so much.
Windley is definitely my new book boyfriend. He's snarky, secretive about what he is and just gives me bad boy vibes...all the things I love! Also the fact that Windley keeps forgetting Merrins honorifics, swoon....I sense some feelings in the air!
We have Albie who has been with Queen Merrin since her childhood, he acts as a father and protector which was so sweet. Rafe was hard to get a read on him for a long while but once his secret was out in the open he was such a little sweetie.
Merrin was so fun to read. She was such a strong main character. She was alive and refreshing to read about. Passionate and felt young to read about. She cares about everyone in her life and goes above and beyond for them. Merrin was a breath of fresh air for a Queen, which I throughly enjoyed!
I really liked the writing style of the author, she adds bits of Merrins thoughts into the chapters which made her a fun narrator. The atmosphere of the book is amazing and constantly makes you want to read more! The twists, turns, secrets, reveals and ultimate plot goal was such a fun journey and I had a hard time putting this down on New year's day! THE YERNING MY DUDES. I JUST CANT. MADE ME FEEL ALL WARM AND FUZZY.
The ending left me wanting more and I cant wait to get my hands on book 2. I need more Windley 😈

A Crown of Echoes is a story about Merrin, a Queen who is passionate and fun, and loyal. When her sister Queen Beau goes missing, Merrin sets out on a journey with her Knights, Albie and Rafe to find her. Windley, one of Queen Beau's knights, also joins the band and brings with him secrets and feelings Merrin has to navigate through her growing worry for her friend. Throughout all of this Merrin also has to deal with the fact that she seems to have gained Beau's power of speaking to the forest, and it's much more dangerous than she realizes.
This was a quick, fun read. Merrin is definitely likable. She's funny and laid back in a 'not like other Queens' way. She's not afraid to get dirty and she doesn't hesitate before diving in to help her friend. The other characters add a layer of depth to the story but also function to deepen Merrin's character as well. We have Albie, her faithful knight and father figure. Rafe, the young knight with a painful secret that Merrin doesn't hesitate to reassure and help where she can. Windley, the Spirite knight who has powers Merrin can't imagine, and who Merrin has a growing attraction to. Overall, they all work together to create a cohesive and engaging story.
The budding romance between Windley and Merrin is well done and just enough to keep us begging for more by the end. It's got the perfect amount of angst. Enough to really make me care but not so much that I can't stand reading it.
There was a spot or two I would've liked some more info on the magic systems and the lore behind Rafe and his relationship with the moon. Hoping we get some more of that in book 2!
This book is the first in the series, and I can't wait to read the next one. It ends on a cliff hanger after a really fantastic action scene. I'm so curious to see where it goes next!

This book was AMAZING!!! to say the least. I couldn't and didn't put it down. I read it in just one sitting. Very well written. I find myself wondering what Merrin is up to and can't wait to find out!
I saw there was a lower star rating on this book. Pretty sad that someone would do that on purpose to lower this author's ratings. If you notice, that person rated it before the book was even released and their average rating on many books is under three stars.

Magic and forbidden romance with sarcasm <3
Queen Merrin is not your typical queen and during her journey to rescue her friend, she finds herself obtaining power she never dreamed of having and falling victim to a forbidden romance with a guy who’s wit and humor keeps you on your toes. Loved the characters in here! They were all crafted well and grew so much with just this first book! the world was magical and scary and everything you want from a fantasy. Definitely recommend!

This was fast and easy to read with a unique magic system and good romance.
I liked that the book feels like Merrin is talking to the reader. It made it feel like I was in the room with her and it made for a unique fantasy experience. I can tell this is the introduction to a much bigger world, and I'm excited to see more about the other queendoms and the south part of the world.

Great work! This was the fourth book by Brindi that I've read and it was great! I cant wait for the next book in this series to come out!

The Crown of Echoes is the first in Brindi Quinn’s The Crown series and having celebrated its fifth birthday, has recently received a new look with a stunning cover that along with the synopsis of magic and loss Queen’s will draw many a fantasy reader in.
The first instalment focuses on Queen Merin who finds herself along with her loyal guard and those loyal to her friend, Queen Beau as she finds herself searching for her lost friend who has disappeared in the wake of revealing a secret to Merin. I liked Merin and how she seems to be a woman who refuses to follow not only the protocol dictated by those who came before her as a monarch but also is heavily guided by her morals and way of viewing the world around her and her part within it. She is the main voice of The Crown of Echoes, and she has such a way with herself that is not only appealing as a reader but also shows how she is viewed by those around her. Simply put, she’s unapologetically herself and doesn’t care about what others think of her following her path.
I also loved the flirtatious banter we saw between Merin and one of her companions. It is really funny and I liked seeing not only how she encouraged him but was swift to remind him when to behave, thus providing a spark between the two throughout the book.
The world-building is a perfect level of ensuring you are very aware you’re far from the humdrum of our world without making it too heavy and distracting from the unfolding story as the search goes on for the lost monarch. The writing style by Quinn is smooth and ensures you’re drawn into the adventure and remain there as the journey, and problems twist and turn for our small contingent of characters. Magic as I said, plays a large part in this fantasy world, including helping to heal the injured which we get to see a couple of times throughout The Crown of Echoes; it’s been a while since I saw one that is effective in the world but also not overly complicated and I think this would be an ideal series for those who are relatively new to the genre or are moving up into New Adult fantasy because it’s far from overwhelming throughout the various areas its makeup.
I really enjoyed this first step into a new magical world, and will be seeking out the sequel soon because I want to see just what else is in store for not only Merin but also Queen Beau and those who care for them and their subjects. I have a feeling it’s far from smooth sailing from here.. Because we’ve already experienced magical beings, kidnapping (or rather Queen Napping) and Goddesses born from legends past.

Romantasy at its best.
I honestly don’t know where to begin with this review purely because I won’t be able to truly articulate how good this book is. The five stars should show you enough to just go and read it but I will do my best to give the rating some context.
First in a series of four (The Crown Saga), ‘A Crown of Echoes’ begins by introducing us to two queens (Merrin and Beau) who are coming together to plan an upcoming event. We are teased right at the beginning with the fact that this event will not go ahead but aren’t told why. It soon becomes apparent when Queen Beau is taken from her room and so the story unfolds. One of adventure, romance, secrets and powers. What more could you want? Oh I know - a steamy guard, a powerful Goddess and an additional queen who is possibly crazy but definitely wicked. All boxes are ticked.
Brindi Quinn has created a magical world full of varying kingdoms, beasts, rulers and powerful people. Not only does she do this with flair, but she embeds a rich plot that keeps you on the edge of your seat throughout. There were points where I was literally holding my breath. But for me, it’s the characters Quinn has created that have hooked me. She has written them so well, you feel like you’ve met them and I loved each of them. Obviously I love the protagonists and love interests - which I won’t spoil because the emerging of this is so good to read - but I also have a guilty pleasure for some of the baddies. I particularly enjoyed reading about Sestilia and hope she makes another appearance in the series. I also hope the subsequent books in the series develop in spice - particularly if it involves Mr Windley.

A Crown of Echoes by Brindi Quinn is the first book in The Crown Saga and the story of Queen Merrin, who rules over a domain where they make magical remedies for everything. When her friend Queen Beau vanishes after having told Merrin a secret, Merrin goes to the rescue, along with some guard if her own and Queen Beau’s guards, of which someone is very special to her.
This novel was delightful to read. I loved Merrin, she goes her own way, even as a queen. Merrin is the one who tells the story and for me it was as if I could hear her speak and see what she told. The plot and story-line are engaging and that was that I wanted to go on reading. The story is filled with magic, drama, dangerous situations, humour and banter, and there are several unexpected twists and turns. After the cliffhanger I really want to read the next book very soon.

This novel was delightful to read. I loved Merrin, she goes her own way, even as a queen. Merrin is the one who tells the story and for me it was as if I could hear her speak and see what she told. So this follows Queen Merrin, her best friend queen beau and their loyal knights. The Queens are planning the annual lunar festival when Beau disappears and Merrin is determined to find her friend no matter the cost. So with three of her most loyal nights, she sets off on a journey of magic, enchanted forests, vengeful goddesses, forbidden romance, ancient lore, and manner of beasts and monsters.
I cannot begin to tell you how much I loved this book, the world building is awesome, it’s not too fast so you don’t get overwhelmed or confused it, it just builds layer after layer after layer until you are immersed in this world of magic with a nice sprinkling of mayhem. This book very quickly became my new obsession. I loved the characters, they are well developed and engaging. Storyline is fantastic. The pace is perfect. I absolutely loved the writing style. I was very quickly totally invested in the story, this world, these characters, and I did not want the book to end. So much so that I immediately downloaded the rest of the series.
This book was awesome and was a very strong 4.5 stars read for me. Brindi has very quickly become one of my favourite authors and I am looking forward to reading more of her books if this series is anything to go by!

A Lyrical and Ambitious Fantasy with a Few Rough Edges
A Crown of Echoes by Brindi Quinn is a uniquely atmospheric fantasy that offers a beautifully written world filled with haunting magic and strong emotional undertones. The lyrical prose is one of the novel’s greatest strengths—it feels poetic and immersive, making the world come alive in a vivid, dreamlike way.
The main character is compelling, with a lot of emotional depth, and I really appreciated the inner strength she develops over the course of the story. The romance, while slow-burning, has moments of real tenderness and tension that drew me in.
That said, there were parts where the pacing felt a bit uneven, and I occasionally found myself rereading sections to fully grasp what was happening—likely due to the richly descriptive style, which at times slowed down the plot. A few secondary characters also felt like they could’ve used a bit more development to truly shine.
Still, I genuinely admire the ambition of this story. It has heart, soul, and a unique voice that stands out in the fantasy genre. A Crown of Echoes is the first book in the Crown Series, and I am so pleased that book two is already out, as this book was left on a cliffhanger!
I loved it! It had everything you want from a feel-good Romantasy. A forbidden love, banter between the love interests, a grumpy companion and a quest.
I fell in love with Merrin - the quirky, not-so-queenly, Queen of the Crag who sets out on a quest that will see her small army, which consists of her knight and two guards, face many challenges as they travel the land to find the kidnapped queen.
I don't feel bad giving away that spoiler, as Brindi does it herself at the end of the first chapter. The book is littered with breadcrumbs and foreshadowing at the end of the chapters, which means you are reading 'just one more chapter' and then you're hooked.
You can tell early on that he loves her; she can't see it, but we can, and we hold our breath as we read a "will they or won't they" romance.
The book has secrets, banter and a low-key worry that all will survive.
As I said, I thoroughly enjoyed this. It had a touch of Throne of Glass but with less sharpness, more softness and no spice, so a perfect YA Book.

First of all i was drawn to this gorgeous cover! That synopsis then brought me right in to wanting to read this book.
The book has been reformatted and partly rewritten by the audience as i believe it was initially written in the pandemic and she wanted to updated it for the New Adult market.
I really liked this book. There's action, romance, intrigue, kidnapping, suspense, and so much more that you just can't help turning page after page.
Merrien is a strong character. She is loyal to her fellow queen Beau, respects her guards Ablie and Rafe and leans more about Windley, Beau's guard, where they all set off on a mission to find the missing queen.
Secrets come out, and Merrien finds out that both Rafe and Windley have more to offer her and open up more about themselves.
I enjoyed this book so much that I have now downloaded the next two book in this 4 book series and look forward to seeing what happens next!

It took me some time to fully engage with the book. The narrative style is reminiscent of a memoir, resulting in more telling than showing. The author frequently employs foreshadowing, often stating, "If I had known this would lead to X, I would never have..." This can be frustrating, as it tends to detract from the tension rather than build it, making it feel excessive at times.
There’s a significant "betrayal" that supposedly "will hunt my heart forever. But I must tell you as the pains forms the character" (in that spirit); yet it's quickly forgiven just a page later, which diminishes its impact.
Merrin doesn’t come across as very "queenly" and seems ready to abandon her queendom on a whim, which felt odd.
However, as the story progressed, I grew to love the characters. I found myself rooting for both couples, and the slow-burn romance between the FMC and the MMC truly tugged at my heartstrings. I'm eager to see how their story unfolds and whether they find their way to each other!

I had such a great time with this read! I LOVED Brindi's COME TRUE series and have known since I finished it that I wanted to read more of her work, so I was really eager to dive into this series and see what it was like. I went in completely blind, and I was not disappointed.
Queen Merrin is such a fun character. Right off the bat we get to see her friendship with Queen Beau, and it was so nice to see a feminine friendship where one of the girls isn't rotten that I instantly fell in love with the pair of them. Getting to see the way Merrin bantered with the guards solidified my liking for her. She's quirky, she's loyal, and she's not afraid to hold her own. And the way she tells the story is so engaging that she had me in a chokehold from the moment I finished the first chapter!
In terms of world-building, I'm starting to see there are few who can beat Brindi. Reading on Kindle, it's not easy to flip back to the front matter to view maps and character guides, but I had no issue keeping up with things. The way the queendoms and the journey itself was explained was easy to understand and didn't slow things down. The same goes for the magic systems - they were explained when it was necessary, in a clear and interesting way. I never once felt lost or got confused.
Albie, Rafe, and Windley - no words. They're each so different, but together as a trio they worked, and I loved that for them.
I'm already halfway through the second novel as I write this, and I can say without a doubt that the rest of this series is going to live up to the standard the first book set. I may even love this more than COME TRUE!

I definitely want to read the rest of this series! I loved the characters, especially Queen Merrin. She made me laugh with some of her antics. I got a kick out of the fact that some of those closest to her somewhat scandalized with the fact that not only does she prefer to wear trousers (gasp), but that she also sometimes enjoys having drinks with her guards. But when her best friend Queen Beau disappears, she insists on traveling with the rescue party. I think this is a must-read romantasy with some unexpected twists, court intrigue, forbidden romance, magic and one heck of an adventure through a dangerous and magical forest. I’ll recommend this book to other readers.

This was an incredible book from the first few chapters! For a fantasy book, the world building was slow and steady to avoid overwhelming the reader. The characters are so lovable, and their relationships are full of humour, banter, and such depth. The world itself is so vivid and mystical, such beautiful writing you can imagine the world in such vivid colours littered in magic and mythical beasts. 2 of the main characters have such s3xual tension as well as appearing the best of friends. It makes you want to scream out loud! And this is the first book of 4 in the series, so I really can't wait to find out where their story ends up!

Queen Merrin is anything but traditional—and that’s exactly what makes her shine. She’s bold, defiant, and a little reckless, sneaking out to drink with her guards instead of ruling from a throne. While the worldbuilding takes some time to settle in, the plot is engaging, and the character banter brings warmth and wit to the darker moments.
This updated version shows just how much Brindi Quinn has grown as a writer. The heart of the story is still there, but the polish and depth in this edition make it feel more alive. A solid start to a saga with personality, magic, and a queen you can’t help but root for.
