Levi Phillips is a warlock living in the woods of rural Ohio. With his apprentice, Matthew, Levi operates one of the most ferocious covens in the world, known as The Black Fang. Managing the coven like an international corporation, Levi controls its enormous wealth while running a moonshine operation as a front. But when a plot to assassinate Levi is exposed, the warlock decides it’s time to destroy The Black Fang and the destruction could create a new beginning.
Tucked away in the Pacific Northwest with my wife Denise, a Border Collie named Aoife, a guitar collection, and an increasing number of aquariums sporting a variety of fish (cichlids are my new favorites), I live for football season when I can cheer on the Oregon Ducks and be disappointed by my Seattle Seahawks once again. I am a fan of Cookie Monster, KISS, and Dr. Who (along with most things British).
As a person who always dreamed of writing as well as one completely enthralled by all things zombie, it is hard to believe that I never once considered writing in the genre. It is true. I wanted to be more “mainstream”. The first novel I actually wrote is titled Dakota (as Todd Brown). It is about a pair of DEA types tossed back in time to just prior to the start of the Civil War. They are in Charleston, South Carolina, and one of them is an African-American.
The zombie thing really started when I wrote a short for a college Creative Writing class. The teacher, Ms. Bose, pulled me up and told me I had an obvious love for the subject and a real talent for the style. I decided to give it a shot.
The first thing I cobbled together was Zomblog. I wrote it as a warm up for the project I had brewing in the back of my mind. It is a journal account of the apocalypse. The funny thing is that it was never intended to be published. A few things happened and it ended up being presented to me as a gift in book format by my wife for a Christmas present. There was something I will never forget about holding the copy of that book in my hand the first time. Because it gained a readership, and those readers asked for more, I made it a trilogy (Zomblog, Zomblog II, and Zomblog: The Final Entry). It is also because of those fans that I have returned to the Zomblog universe and just released the sixth (and FINAL) book in the series on Halloween of 2013: Zomblog: Snoe's Journey. I freely admit that I will sellout my plans to write what the fans ask for.
I really want my DEAD series to be what I am known for, and in the last year, it has really taken off. However, I will say that with the release of the fourth book in the DEAD series (DEAD: Winter), the numbers started to pick up beyond my wildest dreams.
The DEAD series (DEAD: The Ugly Beginning, DEAD: Revelations, and DEAD: Fortunes & Failures, DEAD: Winter, DEAD: Siege & Survival, DEAD: Confrontation, DEAD: Reborn) is scheduled to be a 12 part epic series.
It is told in three rotating chapters. One is from the first person perspective of Steve Hobart, a man thrust into the role of leader for a group of survivors struggling to keep alive. One chapter follows a group of four self-professed zombie “geeks” who initially believe that the zombie apocalypse would be fun and soon discover that it is nothing like the movies. The third of the rotating chapters is called “Vignettes” and is a series of snapshots from all around the world. Some of the vignettes are single chapter episodes, others are continuing threads that carry on for several chapters. A few are merged into the Steve story or the Geek story line.
Last year,I began my horror/comedy series, "That Ghoul Ava" and have found it to be my new guilty pleasure.
The Black Fang Betrayal is a collaboration of ten authors that tell a tale of mystical creatures and different perspectives from each individual warlock’s angle. I am fan of David Moody's work, so when I saw this, it was a "Must Have". I was pleasantly surprised to be to introduced to some more extraordinary writers in this captivating book as well.
This story is set in “The Beginning” by J. Thorn. Setting the stage with the Coven’s leader, Levi and his apprentice, Matthew running a moonshine operation. A blanket from which pure evil is brewing.
Matthew decides to take matters into his own hands, sending a tall order with high stakes through forgery behind his master’s back. This mission addressed to the coven sets things in motion.
The book moves along creating and taking on a life of its own. Each chapter, a different warlock and author with another story to tell. Each with their own agenda of betrayal, power, deceit, greed, gluttony, regret, fear, self-preservation and much more on the darker end of the spectrum.
Thorn puts his finishing touches as well as he began the story at “The End”. I had a hard time putting this book down, I honestly LOVED it.
This idea is genius and although the writers worked individually, how they managed to make this paranormal freak show come to life without any gaps in the story is profoundly astonishing. I admired the creativity and diversity in this story. I give this book a 5 star rating due to the fact these writer's were able to pull something like this off through the glorious internet without ever actually meeting in person.
I thoroughly loved loved loved this book. It was a great read.
The Black Fang Betrayal is a collaborative novel written by the following authors: TW Brown, Michaelbrent Collings, Mainak Dhar, J.C. Eggleton, Glynn James, Stephen Knight, David J. Moody, T.W. Piperbrook, J.R. Rain, J Thorn.
This unique approach was born on the 31st October 2013 by J Thorn, one of Amazon's top Horror authors. The book was officially published on the 1st September 2014.
The Black Fang Betrayal is a gripping, dark, edgy and thrilling story of a coven of warlocks who are betrayed by one of their own.
Personally, I enjoyed reading the chapter entitled 'The Emperor, The Story of Brad Kile', especially because this part of the book is located in Australia. I loved what Brad Kile did to Bob Coullette. Honestly, you have to read it to know what I am talking about. I can't say too much or it will give the good stuff away. My second favourite chapter was 'The High Priestess, The Story of Jean Vinet' because the powers that he used turned out to be a fate worse than death for him. It was quite cruel but delicious to read.
My third favourite chapter was 'The Devil, The Story of Jeremy Totters' which was about a warlock posing as an actor. When he meets his opponent, he is literally outwitted. This chapter was very cleverly constructed and I thoroughly enjoyed squirming with disgust as Jeremy Totters interacted with his nemesis, John Wesley.
Thanks J Thorn and all of the authors who participated in this unique book. I am looking forward to a second book if you decided to create a series.
What hooked me on this book? The way it was created! J Thorn had a vision to bring together multiple authors who each wrote one chapter of the same story (J wrote the beginning & the end). Those authors were given limited information and prompts, and from that they had to create their mini story within this story. I thoroughly enjoyed reading each authors' character and scenario. I know I'm being vague; that's because I don't want to spoil anything. I was thrown for a loop in some of the chapters when the character's fate wasn't what I had expected. This was also an opportunity to experience other authors' writing styles, and I must say that I've picked out some favorite chapters and plan to read books by those authors. This is a must read if you love horror, mystery or warlock novels.
Ever thought too many cooks could ruin the soup? It's just the opposite when having so many wonderful authors write a story together, The Black Fang are as group of warlocks bent on becoming the supreme leader, each author tells the tale of a certain one and what becomes of him. Thus is an extremely interesting experiment in fun, can they take this concept and do it well, in a word Yes!
I liked the concept of this book: several authors all working together to create a story. I liked how the stories were all woven into each other and fit perfectly into a storyline that kept moving forward. The different characters were interesting and each author really put their own creativity forward with this book.
I gave it 3 stars. The book has a strong beginning and end. I think the same author wrote both. Which is probably also the downside to this book. I felt that with each story, I was reading over and over again how the warlocks were being sent on this mission. I didn't think this needed explaining every time. Some authors were strong writers than a few of them and I did find myself skimming over at least 2 of the stories because they were just too boring for me. However, the other stories I did take the time to read were great and kept me on the edge of my seat.
I really, really enjoyed this. Having a new writer every chapter kept the tone refreshing and exciting, some I liked more than others which is to be expected but I can't say there was any chapter I disliked. My only tiny criticism is that they did get a bit repetitive towards the end and I felt like I knew exactly how each battle would go.
I really hope J. Thorn writes a sequel, either on his own or as a collaboration again because the ending is wide open for further development and this is the type of project I'd be happy to read more of.
A curious experiment in writing....... and they make it work well.
Thus could have been horrible. So many authors for one story! What's the old adage about cooks and broth? Well, this broth was very tasty. Well done to all.
On top of that, n interesting story which I'd like to read a sequel of.
Due to eye issues and damage Alexa reads to me. Ten interesting will written fantasy Sci-Fi thriller adventures by ten different authors very black magic. I would recommend giving this novel a try. Enjoy the adventure of reading 📚. 2021
People were buzzing on Facebook about this great book that was written by ten outstanding authors. The more I had heard the more intrigued I became. Some of the authors I had heard of…some I have read books by and some I have never heard of. When the book was released I immediately went on Amazon…read the blurb and some of the reviews that had been posted about it. I was sold…went and one-clicked and started reading immediately! I was very interested in seeing how this was all going to meld together due to the fact that nine different authors from different genres were each writing their own chapter in this story with the beginning and the end being written by J. Thorn. The authors are identified as being a part of this extraordinary work BUT…the reader doesn’t know which author wrote which chapter. Intriguing…yes…mysterious…absolutely! The few authors I have read works by I “think” I have figured out but the others…I have no clue. But having read this book…I have now discovered new authors I will be looking into and reading their books…and who knows maybe I will figure out who wrote which story! This is definitely a book that was thoroughly thought out…extremely well written and magnificently put together! This is a must read by anyone who enjoys a good story. One that will keep your interest…have you on the edge of your seat at times…and hopefully you don’t have a squeamish stomach!
Adams County, Ohio (Rural). Levi Phillips (warlock) & his apprentice Matthew (warlock) are members of the Black Fang (coven). Their dungeon is beneath the Place de la Concorde (Champs-Élysées). It is also a front for a moonshine business.
Where will their adventures & mishaps take them next?
A very awesome book cover, great font & writing style. A fairly well written dark fantasy book. It wasn’t always very easy for me to read/follow from start/finish, but never a dull moment. There were no grammar/typo errors, nor any repetitive or out of line sequence sentences. Lots of exciting scenarios, with several twists/turns & a great set of unique characters to keep track of. This could also make another great fantasy movie, animated cartoon, or better yet a mini TV series. It was just OK for me so I will rate it at 4/5 stars.
Thank you for the free Author; Thorn Publishing; Amazon Digital Services LLC; book Tony Parsons MSW (Washburn)
A great book with a different perspective and voice on each chapter and character. Bringing so many great authors together in such a way made for a great book. The ending is really satisfying and I hope it will continue as it definitely left me wanting more. J Thorn has pulled off a great feat here managing this project which he writes about once the main story is done. The short stories at the end made for great little reads also, a bonus after such an enjoyable book.
I wanted so much to love this book and post a 5* review. I love the concept of having multiple writers the different characters in a single story. Sadly, I just did not enjoy the story. The chapter about Brad/Bob was just beyond gross! I almost stopped reading at that point. I'm glad I finished it, but I'm not sure I would attempt to read a sequel if there was one.
Disclosure: I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I really enjoyed reading this book. Horror isn't my first love, but I liked the intrigue of the story and how each author brought their individual flavor to the overall story. I look forward to other stories like this and I feel as though I should challenge myself to write Horror.
I love this creative idea of writers collaborating on a story! What a great way to get to sample some new writers. I couldn't put this one down. I hope to see more from these writers all together! This could be the start of a beautiful friendship!
I enjoyed this story. It ts a collaborative novel by 10 authors. Even with the different authors the story flows vey well. It grabs your attention and keeps you wondering what will happen next. I would recommend this for anyone that enjoys horror.
I definitely have mix feelings on this book. I did enjoy the collaboration aspect of it, but I think some of the stories could have been touched up a bit. The beginning was also slow for me but it did pick up as I kept going along. I do recommend this book if anyone is interested in reading it.
A mixture of authors to make an outstanding piece of horror and terror masterpiece. If you Luke things that make the bumps in the night you will be like me and love this book.
