Highlighted by full-color reproductions of Michelangelo's masterpieces, this study provides young readers with a close-up look at the life and work of one of the world's greatest artists.
The story of one of the world's most talented artists is the topic of this biography about Michelangelo. To be well known by only your first name for over five hundred years attests to the genius of this sculptor, painter, and poet. His works are still a marvel to behold. The ceiling of the Sistine Chapel in the Vatican, the Pieta, the David, and many other works of his hands are highly prized art works on display for visitors to admire. Michelangelo saw himself first and foremost as a sculptor. He only consented to paint the frescoes because he was compelled to do so by Pope Julius II.
I really liked Introducing Michelangelo by Robin Richmond. This book tells all about Michelangelo's life and his art. It provides pictures of his art which I really liked and gives a lot of background information that many people don't know about Michelangelo. I really liked that at the beginning of the book the author writes about why it is important to study art and artists that lived so long ago. I think this would be an excellent book for any students who are interested in art history, or even a book to motivate students to care about art.
This was a quick but informative look into the life of Michelangelo. The layout was done well with interesting facts, beautiful photographs, and a timeline. A nice addition to any middle/high school classroom or library.
Interesting information about Michelangelo. Nice balance of illustration to text on all but the first page, where it was visually overwhelming and the text on the first page hard to read.
