Although a truly gifted hairstylist, Kiri Koshiba has no interest in using her talent to pursue fame and fortune, unlike the three popular boys in the ""Scissors Project"" at school. Determined to become the best makeover team in Japan, they give showy makeovers to handpicked girls. As much as Kiri tries to shy away from the Scissors Project spotlight, she finds herself responding to beauty's call...
This volume honestly kind of slapped. I think the character and plot development Arai brought forth here really works in expanding her world. Not only do we have a potential romantic interest for Kiri (if she cares for that sort of thing), but S.P.'s reach could expand as Ochiai decides to revamp the group. The contest from last volume ended well, and the potential angst caused by the romantic development feels grounded and not as cheesy as it could be (we'll see how it goes down the line, though). The subplot with the dads is what I'm looking forward to the most. How will this impact Narumi's relationship with Kiri? Will he gain respect for her?
You know, I've read this series before but it's only on the second read that I've realised the male lead might not have been who I thought it was 🫠 I'm confused
As I said in reviewing the earlier volumes, between 2-3 stars for me, so rounded up. It has its funny moments, and the art is enjoyable, but mostly I'm enjoying it now as a nostalgic reread from high school.
It's a very shoujo series, so take that as it is. Plot is starting to build a little, and characters getting a little more depth, though they are still pretty stereotypical. People are apparently crazy about beauty and hair cuts, everyone is a master or "God's Hands" in whatever they do, and Narumi still likes yelling. I like Ochiai starting to notice Kiri, even as the chaos continues to swirl around them all.
As soon as I finished Volume 4 I picked up Volume 5 without thinking... Beauty Pop has sucked me in despite my criticisms.
Here's what's up in this volume:
The good: hinting at complicated and interesting backstories, promoting a minor character to a main character, building relationships between characters.
The bad: still staying out of Kiri's head for the most part even though she's the main character [I'm dying for some character development, please], introducing Shogo Narumi's incredibly obnoxious baby sister, introducing a totally unnecessary love triangle.
So much development in this one! Kizuhiko starting to fall for Kiri. That just took a turn. The SP becoming a club and having Iori, Kiri, Taro, Aoyama, and Kin joining! Then finding out that Shogo's dad not only knew Kiri's dad but was his rival! That was just a shocker. I'm looking forward to seeing what's going to happen. Kiri already suspects something about kizuhiko. I think she's still going to be with Shogo Narumi

Four volumes in and Kiri still doesn’t care about anyone or anything, haha! I like how the plot is thickening though, and I am appreciating the Narumi and X rivalry more. This was good!
It’s taken a surprising twist I didn’t suspect. I LOVE Seki!!! He is SOOOOO adorable! I thought getting a little bit of backstory on Kiri was moving. I didn’t expect her to have ever experienced what she did. Also, learning about her dad was something else! This new crush was unexpected too. I’m curious what will happen in the next volume!
Contest drama! And then relationship drama starts up. Kiri's right in the middle of it and of course has no idea and probably couldn't care less if she did know. We also meet Narumi's dad and little sister (Chisami--bleh, she's annoying). And Ochiai lays out his plans for world domination, but obviously Kiri's having none of it--ha!
Well i decieded to grab another manga book based on beauty pop being that the first one i read wasnt oh so good. My rating is a four star because this book was really good!Im a person who likes books that have dramatiic story lines because it keeps me into the book.I cant believe that her prince turned out to be a girl instead.
Beauty Pop from the start was a great read, i enjoyed immensely the action between Kiri and Narumi, how she doesn't care in the world and how he breaks out in hives whenever a girl touches him. Kiri changed his life from a young age, which he finds out later on, so he sees her as a rival and eventually as a girl he loves.
Series Review: Beauty Pop is exactly like its name very cute and funny. It has a unique premise of makeovers and the plot can be unexpectedly dramatic at times. The characters are what had me hooked as I loved them all too much to get bored. I feel the ending was rushed but over all it fit the story well. I recommend this manga to those who like very light and cutie stories.
Beauty Pop, Volume 4 was such a good read with a great storyline and good humour to match. I would definitely recommend this book to those who love reading manga, as well as those who are looking for a quirky, yet dominant female lead role. The only unfortunate thing I found with this book is that they no longer make hardcopies and that you can only read them as ebooks now.
Narumi meets his limits in the contest showdown while Kiri's scissors are frozen by a blast from the past--and is this battle of the stylists all it seems?
This volume really started to develop the story and characters. Is Ochiai falling for Kiri? Is Narumi allergic to women? What is going on with Narumi's father's rivallry with Kiri's Dad?
This volume was enjoyable because the repetitive nature of the previous volumes has lessened.
One of the best volumes so far. I love Chisami-Chan! She is so cute :) This one does not focus so much on the makeovers as much as the characters and thier relationships. Kiri's past comeing back was interesting. She has a rather bland personality but it works somehow.
