Although a truly gifted hairstylist, Kiri Koshiba has no interest in using her talent to pursue fame and fortune, unlike the three popular boys in the ""Scissors Project"" at school. Determined to become the best makeover team in Japan, they give showy makeovers to handpicked girls. As much as Kiri tries to shy away from the Scissors Project spotlight, she finds herself responding to beauty's call...
The situations in here are starting to feel repetitive. I guess that I feel that way because Kiri's doing about 2 makeovers per volume. For someone who doesn't want to cut hair for a living, she certainly turns to her scissors often.
This isn't bad or anything, but like I said in my review of volume 2, it's a bit repetitive and the characters don't really interest me. So I think I won't continue the series. Also, all of the extras were kind of annoying. 3 stars.
3.5 stars. The pacing is different, and this time, it seemed to just have one new long chapter. I still like the uniqueness of this story and the main character. The side story was nice, too, but I wanted more of the main one.
Narumi in this one tries to act like he's all cool with absolutely no emotions, yet he shows himself to actually care. He hurt himself right before the battle with Niida trying to rescue Kiri's cat Shampoo. I love how Kiri just stops and looks at him like she couldn't believe he did that. And notices how hurt he is at the end for the battle. I'm so glad she showed up to the battle and didn't leave them hanging. She is so incredibly talented. And I need her to be with Narumi. She's immune to his charms and he really has a great heart underneath his facade.

As I said in reviewing the earlier volumes, between 2-3 stars for me, so rounded up. It has its funny moments, and the art is enjoyable, but mostly I'm enjoying it now as a nostalgic reread from high school.
It's a very shoujo series, so take that as it is. It can get repetitive, and Narumi definitely likes yelling. Most of the characters are pretty stereotypical (pretty much except for Kiri, who's enjoyable but can still be pretty blank!).
This is definitely my favorite volume so far! I feel the characters are growing and fleshing out and I absolutely LOVE seeing this kind, caring side of Kiri! Also, the bonus stories are some of my favorites, especially Shampoo’s!
There was nice plot advancement here in this volume of Beauty Pop, but some of the angst Arai concocted with the Scissors Project and with something that happens to Narumi didn't make me as engaged with this volume as I did with Volume 2. The longer short story also didn't have the best framing, which is likely due to this series releasing in the 2000s. Also, I doubt Narumi would get coupled up that easily.
I did enjoy Tsuyoshi's introduction and how he's viewed as being Narumi's second fiddle. They act quite similar, and if he'll be a recurring character, that should provide the right balance of entertainment. I'll be intrigued to see where this duel goes next. Arai's shaking it up nicely. I appreciate Kiri doing things on her own merit here!
Just when I thought that we were done with similar-looking characters, the new minor character villain for Volume 3 (Tsuyoshi Niida) is an eerily-similar foil to main character Shogo Narumi (there is a slight difference in hair and even slighter difference in eyebrows). Sigh. In good news, Iori gets up to more shenanigans that made me smile.
I've been enjoying the time capsule aesthetics in this series (which ran from 2003-2008) and I chuckled when I saw that the models for the big beauty contest were two ganguro girls wearing kigurumi.
I agree with the reviews saying this volume feels repetitive, but I think the story’s plot is still developing at this point. I have a feeling someone from the Scissors Project will fall in love with Kiri. I also think the repetition shows what kinds of people they are, and when plot development does happen, it will really highlight their changes. I love this series for the art, the concept, and the characters, so I enjoyed this installment!
Another cute story. I'm a bit sad because it ends on a cliff hanger! And the library doesn't have book 4. :( I really like how the group is coming together Kiri is being drawn into the group and Narumi is being...uh...groomed? to accept her more. It's a great cast of characters who are starting to mess better and getting closer.
No, this wasn't the most difficult volume to find for a reasonable price... Other volumes were way more expensive than this one.
The bonus story in the second volume added something to the main story. Here there's another bonus story, but it's just extra stuff.
But I love Seki as a side character.

I think this was the most difficult volume to find for a reasonable price. You know, every old series has at least a volume which is hard to find and cost a lot. Once you get that, the rest of the series will come easily.
I'm enjoying this one. It's full of stereotypes and clichés, but I'm reading it for fun, and it does a marvelous job. I like Kiri: she's so different from most shojo manga protagonists.
This is the first Original manga comic that i have read. When I first came across this book, the title grabed my attention and made me grab it off the shelf. I started reading the back cover and also looking at the cover. This text was mainly about these students who take a cosmetology class in there school and do this beauty contest every year and how the same person gets the victory ever year, but this year he gets faced with a challange.I would have to say it was an okay story ,however I was upset because it wasnt really all that entertaining.
Kiri, a talented stylist who believes that anyone can be beautiful but who could care less about herself, is dragged into a contest between the Scissor Project and Narumi's consistant second-placing arch rival.
This is a cute new shojo series that, refreshingly, does *not* contain a lead character in a connundrum over how to catch the boy of her dreams' eye. "Beauty is more of a mindset than a physical appearance" seems to be the motto of this series, it's definitely worth checking out.
In which Kiri's mom arrives from the US to kick some Narusy ass (too bad she gets the wrong guy), and there are some hints of something in Kiri's past that have caused her to veer away from the hairdressing profession that's the family business. And Narusy saves Shampoo the cat! Naru Naru is also challenged by a jealous student to a five-way battle, and Kiri and Iori are pressured into helping out (after one of Narumi's usual temper tantrums). Who's going to win?!?!?!?!?!
A continuation of S.P Battles and in a bonus story our MC finally showed an emotion other than ._. this blank one that has no life behind it. Alas, that was only a bonus story...... However, my dear friend has insisted that it will get better, and since we agree on most books, I will consent. Plus, I already requested the next at the library. Let's hope our heroine develops a human personality and maybe another face than ._.
Beauty Pop from the start was a great read, i enjoyed immensely the action between Kiri and Narumi, how she doesn't care in the world and how he breaks out in hives whenever a girl touches him. Kiri changed his life from a young age, which he finds out later on, so he sees her as a rival and eventually as a girl he loves.
