Terminei o livro ontem e ontem li a notícia de um garoto de 16 anos que suicidou porque teve comentários homofóbico em um vídeo que postou com amigos, uma brincadeira que era pra ser "engraçada ", mas que as pessoas se acharam no direito de julgar, infelizmente muitos esquecem que do outro lado tem um ser humano, que tem sentimentos, inseguranças.
Social killers é de 2014, de lá pra cá as coisas pioraram, mais pessoas tem acesso a rede, mais pessoas querem se dar bem as custa do outro, se acham no direito de opnar na vida do outro, Não me entendam mal, eu gosto muito da Internet, do mesmo jeito que tem o lado negativo, tem muita coisa boa, nesse período de pandemia por exemplo, podemos ficar um pouquinho mais perto, mesmo que de forma virtual de pessoas que amamos, conheci pessoas que gosto( que torço pra ser elas mesmo 😬)...
Social killers me assustou, nele tem casos de pessoas que mataram só pra "saber qual é a sensação", tem casos pesados, é indicado pra +18, os autores deixam claro que não são casos recentes, no começo são casos que os predadores acham as vítimas pelo jornal, nem classificados escapa.
Nesse livro são 33 relatos de crimes, os predadores acharam as vítimas pela Internet, alguns casos de leitura difícil, pesado, caso de obsessão por bebês, de mãe que tem um distúrbio e pra chamar atenção, provoca doenças no filho, são crimes cruéis.
Acho muito necessário um livro mais recente e que fosse pra todas as idades, adolescentes precisam ler mais sobre isso.
Tem gatilhos, é pesado.

I previously read one of RJ Parker’s books (from the True Crimes Collection), and was looking for my next fix when this one in particular caught my eye as a keen user of technology and social media. Whilst the internet has many advantages to society, there are some very clear are downsides too.

The book starts with looking at serial killers that before the age of the internet used innovative techniques to catch their victims. I found the link between these killers of the past and the present day internet-age killers particularly interesting and how their “techniques” evolved. Just as some killers of the past posted ads in newspapers, internet killers utilities the anonymity across the web. Making it particularly easy for an individual to pretend to be someone (or something) that they’re not.

The book’s subjects are from all around the world, with such atrocities being committed in very different societies. One of them occurred not far from where I live and certainly reminded me of the dangers the internet can bring (especially to vulnerable people. However, there is some light at the end of the tunnel, with an intriguing piece near the end of the book outlining how authorities are able to use social media to catch these villains and gives some pro-tips on being safer on the web.

There is also in-depth information about the killers, their lives, and their motivations. Some of them fulfill sexual desires, or have psychological disorders and many of them prey on desperate, lonely or vulnerable people. Whilst the subject is not pleasant, this book contains some fascinating insight into the actions of these internet predators. It is definitely worth a read!

Não é uma leitura fácil ou prazerosa, mas acredito que bastante necessária. Além de relatos de casos já solucionados pela polícia, há no final do livro dicas de como se precaver contra esses oportunistas e/ou criminosos virtuais.

Lembrando que todos nós somos alvos basta ter uma conta em algumas redes sociais seja para mostrar trabalhos, procurar emprego, prestar serviços, escrever blogs, pagar, comprar, enfim... Precisamos entender como funciona a internet para que possamos nos proteger e a outros também.

Sabemos que a internet facilita muito a vida desses doentes mentais, mas não é a causadora, antes mesmos da internet esses “monstros” utilizavam quaisquer meios de comunicação, desde uma placa na entrada da casa a um anúncio de jornal.

Devemos saber usar as ferramentas impostas hoje pela tecnologia, é relatado no livro que muitos casos foram elucidados por policiais usando redes sociais como o Facebook e Twitter, embora exista um termo de ética e privacidade, mesmo assim as autoridades veem usando a mesma ferramenta que criminosos usam, para pegá-los. Nunca postem nada de sua vida pessoal nas redes sociais, cuidado com seus check-ins você pode estar marcando um encontro com a morte.

Underwhelming book. The authors take such a teaching approach to every case - and there are plenty - that it becomes annoying halfway through the book. Maybe that works for someone who has never read anything about serial killers (or killers in general), but I get the feeling that anyone who's read over 3 books on serial killing will feel slightly bored by this one. The fact that the chapters are so short and the cases are hardly explored doesn't help matters either. I suppose my favorite thing about this book was that I finally learned how profilers are called in Portuguese - perfiladores, in case anyone's curious.

The cases chosen for this book are ones that will definitely make you wonder just who you're talking to on the computer. The authors of this book also have written the perfect ending to help people learn to not only protect themselves but they give you links and information to help you protect your children as well.

Great but scary true crime read that will make you more aware of your internet surroundings.

A compelling read that exposes an area of criminality that knows no boundaries, and which no one is safe from. After reading this book, you’ll think twice about accepting that ‘Friend’ request from a stranger. Must-reading for anyone who uses the Internet.

This was a very enlightening read. Many cases were cited of murders enabled by internet or Craigslist. I had recently become aware of murders and attempted murders committed by Craigslist users, but I did not realize the many dangers involved with using the internet.

Every parent should read this book because more and more parents are allowing their children to use Facebook without adult supervision. A book titled "Anybody's Daughter," although fiction, illustrates what can happen to children and teens who are unaware of the risks.

I believe all children and teens are in imminent danger nowadays and they need to be supervised and protected from the many predators in society.

This is a very good book and I recommend it to all parents and readers of true crime.

Never in my wildest dreams would I have imagined the extent that killers can use our social media profiles and habits against us. The fact that they set up fake accounts to stalk and lure is disturbing beyond my comprehension. This book provides us with true life examples of how this has happened much too often in the past, and is still happening with an alarming frequency. Besides these horrific accounts of murder and kidnapping, the author provides some very helpful tips on Internet Security and how best to protect ourselves and our families. Highly recommended book that really everyone should read. Be safe!

If you have kids read this book, if you buy or sell on craig's list READ this book. If you use facebook or match or any other social media or internet dating site - READ THIS BOOK.

There is no region that is safe from predators who haunt the internet looking for victims. If your kids are teens let them read the book and discuss it with them.

Fiquei um pouco confuso por aqui: por um lado os autores colocaram QR codes para ver fotos dos criminosos e vítimas (algumas fotos BEM fortes após os assassinatos, inclusive), e por outro usaram várias vezes argumentos sexistas e puritanos para justificar os crimes estudados aqui. Então não sei. Me parece esquisito que essas duas coisas coexistam.

Ainda assim foi um livro divertido. Marquei diversos casos para fazer pesquisas mais profundas (sempre bom saber mais sobre o melhor lado da humanidade). Poderia ter sido uma experiência melhor se não fosse pelos julgamentos de valor dos autores e também se eles não terminassem com com manual bem irreal de como supervisionar suas crianças na internet e de como é possível estereotipar uso de internet por faixa etária.

Talvez seja mais um caso de coisas de envelheceram mal. O livro é de 2014 e nesses 7 anos, muita coisa mudou com relação ao uso da internet.

Leia para conhecer umas histórias tenebrosas se ser humanos terríveis que usam a internet para "caçar". E não leia os últimos capítulos. Dá pra sobreviver sem eles.

Sorry, mas pra mim, esse livro, apesar da edição linda como sempre da Darkside, é uma tremenda perda de tempo. Nada revelador, alguns poucos casos curiosos, mas a maioria ululante relatando, de forma bem redundante diga-se de passagem, o comportamento desequilibrado que a raça humana pode atingir, infelizmente, em QUALQUER lugar, hora, sem nenhum motivo aparente. Das certezas todas, duas ficaram: Os autores não tiveram saco/disponibilidade/criatividade para criar um inicio de cada caso diferente e resolveram com um basicão Ctrl C Ctrl V, because todos parecem IGUAIS, e nota mental seríssima para nunca acessar, nem me relacionar com quem acessa, o 'Craigslist'. Se recomendo? Meu bem, só se você AMAR muito o tema e tiver com um puta tempo ocioso. Do contrario, não. 3 Estrelas, 2 Corações e infinitos humanos desequilibrados.

There were so many of these people I had never heard of before; and I read a lot of true crime books and articles. It really is scary how many people out there use technology to harm others. Most of the internet sites I use are pretty harmless. Pet sites, cooking, knitting & crochet, felting, embroidery and cross stitch sites. Book sites are also a favorite. I keep my personal info out of these sites and have never felt the need to share with total strangers. I am amazed at how people don't get the concept of information on the net being there forever. Once it's out there you can't get it back. As always in human history, along with the good in progress comes the bad. Being aware of this and taking steps to be educated in new technology can keep people safe. The last chapters have good tips on staying safe. Good read.

É um livro ok. Algumas histórias são bem espantosas. No entanto, achei o modo de contá-las e a forma onde foram encontradas meio repetitivas. Tudo bem que geralmente essas histórias se assemelham, mas podiam variar. A maioria dos casos envolvendo mulheres como assassinas tinham algo meio materno. Achei bizarro. Ponto positivo: as dicas para se proteger na internet. Por mais que esteja cansados de ler sobre proteção na internet sempre é válido reforçar e colocar em prática. Proteção nunca é demais. Também achei importante o autor frisar que esses crimes aconteciam antes da era da internet. Aposto que se alguma mãe ou pai louco ler esse livro com certeza proibirá o filho de mexer em redes sociais e internet no geral.

Right, so... this was an interesting read. Not a good read. It’s written in a very dry manner, almost surgically I guess. The chapters all have the same format and it’s somewhat annoying.

It’s an important subject, not a pleasurable one to read about, but important.

I am glad I read it, though I’m not sure I’d recommend it to anyone.

Com narrativa simples e rápida, os autores Parker e Slate compilaram dados sobre vários assassinos e criminosos em geral que usaram as redes sociais para fazer suas vítimas. Eles não se aprofundaram nos casos, mas conseguiram trazer informação suficiente para que incomode e choque. Não consegui ler mais que dois ou três casos por dia porque realmente causa angústia ler a que ponto as pessoas chegam para satisfazer seus desejos mais perversos. Além dos casos em si que já servem para que você reflita sobre o poder que as pessoas têm através das redes sociais, os autores também trazem dicas e informações que ajudam as pessoas a terem mais cuidado ao navegar pela internet. Para quem curte esse tipo de leitura, esse livro é uma ótima opção.

Diferente de "Serial Killers", também publicado pela editora Darkside, Social Killers explora menos a definição dos conceitos e mais os relatos de casos. São compilados três dezenas de casos que tiveram algum tipo de envolvimento online. Isso torna a leitura deste livro muito mais rápida do que do outro mencionado, visto que os relatos são bem curtos (em geral, levando cerca de 5 páginas por caso? - isso é um chute).

Se por um lado o livro atende às expectativas de realmente focar nos crimes cometidos e não na avaliação psicológica dos assassinos, por outro ele decepciona um pouco: os casos são contados com bastante rapidez, sem grandes aprofundamentos sobre a história do assassino ou da investigação.
É claro que relatar detalhadamente casos que, algumas vezes, levaram anos para serem solucionados tornaria o livro imenso, mas talvez fosse interessante explorar mais ao fundo alguns deles.

Uma coisa que achei bastante desnecessária foi a "lição de moral" ao final do livro, que nos lembra que a internet pode ser algo perigoso e que nunca sabemos quem está do outro lado da tela, e listas de dicas para segurança online zzzzzzz
Apesar de entender a importância disso (e a oportunidade de educar dentro do contexto), o público alvo do livro já é voltado para pessoas mais velhas, que já têm muito envolvimento online. Ao meu ver, esse tipo de ensinamento é muito mais válido para crianças e pré-adolescentes.

Esse livro realmente eu demorei para finalizar por razões de tempo, e assim deixava ele de lado para ler outros livros, kkk, bem contraditório, mas a verdade, ele é um livro que reúne vários fatos reais de estórias verídicas sobre vítimas de crimes cyber, então ele não foi tão interessante assim como os demais. Eu achei interessante alguns casos que me foi útil em estudos sobre os perfil do sociopatas, mas não foi tão emocionante como Serial Killers: A Anatomia do Mal ou Serial Killers: Ladys, esses eu devo dizer que amei. Pelo fato que eles tratam não só do foco dos casos, mas de mostrar o que eles são. Basicamente, esse livro é para evidenciar casos reais e mostrar como pode ocorrer crimes atrás da internet, algo que hoje em dia é bem evidente. Um livro que recomendo para um trabalho sobre casos reais. Mais é legal de ler... Por isso dei três estrela.. Bjss...

Então... No começo fiquei bem empolgada com as histórias retratadas no livro. Só que chegou um momento que começaram a ficar cansativas, já que elas não têm aprofundamento quase nenhum e senti falta disso. O livro é bem raso, com uma leitura bem rápida.
Algo que me agradou foram os QR codes no começo de cada capítulo. A interação possibilita que você, por meio de um celular, abra o site da darkside com fotos do assassino em questão, como se estivesse numa pequena ficha criminal.
Histórias reais, interessantes, mas que pecaram na questão do aprofundamento, tornando o livro cansativo a partir de um certo ponto, como se o leitor estivesse vendo apenas uma notícia superficial na tv. Há algumas histórias com apenas duas páginas!

Esse livro apresenta 33 casos que aconteceram por meio das "redes sociais", com foco para a craiglist, e depois de terminar a leitura eu não sei contar nenhum caso em específico! Darkside pecou na seleção e edição aqui, colocou histórias demais e acabou deixando elas extremamente superficiais.

As histórias são resumidas em um breve histórico da pessoa, o ato em si e a punição que o criminoso recebeu em uma média de 4/5 páginas. É muita informação jogada! Seria mais inteligente contar cerca de 10 casos e se aprofundar neles, igual o livro "O Segredo dos Corpos". Não gostei nem um pouco desse modelo!
