Sam isn’t sure where he belongs.

A fisherman’s son with hands more suited to painting than hauling traps, he’s spent his life caught between two worlds—between land and water, duty and passion. He keeps to the tides, drifting through life unseen, unnoticed. His father doesn’t recognize him half the time, his estranged brother has returned like he never left, and college is an uphill battle he isn’t sure he can win. The only place that feels like home is his father’s boat, where the world is quiet enough to think.

Then Goldilocks arrives.

Golden-haired and impossible to ignore, the merman doesn’t ask for Sam’s attention—he demands it. He lingers at the edge of Sam’s world, watches him too closely, gets under his skin in ways no one else ever has.

Sam should ignore him.

But Goldilocks won’t let him. Sam, who has spent his whole life being overlooked, suddenly finds himself the focus of someone who refuses to let him fade into the background. And the more Goldilocks pulls him in, the harder it becomes to pretend he doesn’t want to follow.

Sam has always been alone. But maybe, for the first time, he doesn’t have to be.

Goldilocks is an 18+ m/m merman mystery adventure.

I would recommend reading these books together. It’s been a year since I’ve read “Adonis” and oh my gosh I could not remember anyone!! There are a lot of characters, a lot of family to keep track of, and they all make an appearance in this book. And Sam the MC, he was also in “Adonis” although I don’t think he played a huge role. Just read them together, it will make everything fall into place a whole lot easier.

Anway, Sam apparently dated Conner back then (the MC from Adonis) and they broke up but eventually became friends after the events from the last book. Sam is an artist who draws and paints to relax but also because it’s what he’s good at. And he’s not good at a lot, he can barely keep up with school, plus he’s dyslexic so that doesn’t help in the slightest. No one seems to understand and Sam doesn’t want to tell them or explain it to them because it makes him feel weak. He just wants to be left alone to his pencils and paint brushes. The merman in this one is named Goldilocks or Devil as Sam calls him sometimes. He is a total peacock, he’s beautiful and he knows it. We don’t get a lot as to how he and Sam actually met, all we know is that he hung around Sam’s boat and constantly wanted to be drawn. He’s a little harsher, more matter-a-fact than Adonis but he loves Sam and tries his very best to understand him.

The story in this one has many different parts, many different pieces, many different characters. A lot of it takes place across the veil, the land of mermaids, mermen and mythical creatures. Very different from Adonis which mainly took place in the real world. I probably will not get through all the characters in this review but I’ll mark a few important ones. First there’s Sam’s brother Eric who left as a teenager because he couldn’t stand their dad and then he returned to see Sam only for Sam not to remember him. I personally liked Eric. I thought he was nice, trying his best to reconnect with Sam. What I don’t understand is why he left. We got an explanation but to me it didn’t really explain anything, apparently he was just tired of his dad?? And he is scared of the boat, maybe has a bit of a water phobia??
I just wish we got a straightforward explanation or a flashback.

Then there’s they’re father who has memory loss and apparently no one in the town really likes him, that’s not really explained either. But to Sam that’s his dad and he loves his dad because he’s gotten to see the softer sides of him. Finally I’m going to talk about Austin, who was also introduced in “Adonis.” I think he is very interesting. He definitely has a lot of untold backstory and untold secrets. He has a wall of thorns clinging to him but also a lot of pain hidden behind those sharp points. I really want a book on him. He’s such a mystery. And finally shout out to Fionn for his small redemption arc and Jasper because I liked him.

This book took me a while to finish and I can’t give a clear description of the plot because honestly I lost it more than a few times. But I did enjoy the scenes across the veil, all the character interactions and getting to know them better. And just because the plot seemed to be all over the place doesn’t mean I didn’t have a good time with this book. I still think it’s worth it if you liked “Adonis” just refresh yourself on the events of the last book and some of the characters.

Ok I pushed through but this was a slog at times unfortunately😭😭 My main issue was the plot was confusing and convoluted at times. I feel like this book really shines when you’re reading about the relationship dynamics. Like Sam and his brother Eric or Sam and his mate ofc (Devil aka Goldilocks aka Roan)🥹 But the fantasy elements bogged it down because there was just too much going on. I wanted a clear thread to follow but there’s 100 things going on and it felt a bit nonsensical. I still love this couple but nothing is touching the first book for me. The romance was sweet but it wasn’t my beloved AdonisConnor. Tough act to follow! But I definitely still found this worth reading for the characters and romance.🥰 Also I do really love this world so I’ll be sat for future installments if L. Sherleen decides to bless us with more. ❤️

Good story, but the romance was lacking. Nothing like the first book. I might continue with the series, though. It feels more mysterious than ever.

Couldn't bring myself to finish this one.

I absolutely loved the first book but this was a miss for me. Hopefully any follow up books are more like the first.

Reread 11/02/025:
“There is strength in your family’s kindness, Sam.”

L. Sherleen writes some fantastic characters. In Adonis, Connor is one of my favorite MCs of all time, but Sam manages to stand his own as well in Goldilocks. His kindness, his calm, his strength of conviction make for a fantastic lead and an enjoyable story. Sherleen also writes fantastic side characters, they are so fleshed out and interesting without ever taking over the story or making their inclusion feel forced.

One of my favorite aspects of this series is its exploration of family, both found and by blood. The dedication to one’s family, the love that you share, the mistakes that you make and then make up for. I loved Sam’s dedication to his ailing father despite his struggles and his growing relationship with his newly returned brother, it added so much depth to the story and Sam’s character. And Sam’s found family in Connor, Lawerence, Trevor, and Nick was just as lovely to explore as it was in Adonis.

Some people complain that this series is boring, that not enough happens, etc. It is certainly a more quiet fantasy than most paranormal romances (though I would never call it cozy since there definitely are high stakes and graphic violence at times). It’s a very character driven fantasy and I enjoy the characters immensely.

Edit 7/6/2025:
Very happy that the covers have switched over from AI to real art by a real artist and that L. Sherleen has apologized for the use of AI. This was the one series that actually hurt me to implement my rule on not discussing any books that had AI in any part of their creation or marketing. I’ll write a full review at a later date, but I very much enjoyed this book.

Original review 3/22/2025:
I truly wish L. Sherleen didn’t use AI covers for her books because I would love to talk about this series more but will not do so until she stops with the AI.

I love the Irish spirit of “yeah we have paranormal things in the water, we don’t need to make a big deal of it.” It makes the “ok but that thing freaks me out” moments even bigger.

This is a great continuation of the series that widened the world and all its possible future storylines. I loved learning about the other side of the Tear and its people. Hope we see even more of folks like Jasper and Vi.

Also neat to see some of that mer-hierarchy hinted at in the first book explored more.

I’m thrilled to see Sam get his HFN after his hardships. He’s such a solid character, sweet and considerate, with a magic of turning his torments into allies.

I really hope we see more of Austin in the future, and possibly of them getting along. Glimpses of that have been my favorite part.

Spice: 3-4/5
Angst: 3/5

This is one of my favorite underrated series. I think L Sherleen is a brilliant writer who manages to blend characterization and romance with plot and worldbuilding in a satisfying way. I also found in this one that she is quite good at writing action scenes.

This book definitely plays up the mysterious angle in a way that I found a bit confusing at first but the payoff was well worth it. You're meant to feel confused because Sam definitely doesn't know what is going on either!

Sam and Roan/Goldilocks romance in this is a bit less central than the romance in the first book (this book is as much a plot focused fantasy mystery as it is a romance) but it does have a clear arc with both characters growing and spending a lot of time together.

This is a 5 star book for me that definitely lived up to how much I loved this first one!

just as good as the first book

Excellent book! I loved the first book and the story was so original that I was hesitant that this one could not be as good. But I loved it!

When I found out the sequel to Adonis was Sam's story, I'll be honest, I wasn't excited for it. I didn't dislike Sam at all in the first book, but he wasn't a character that had grabbed my attention and made me want a story for him. But I loved Adonis, its world, and its cast of characters so wanted to read this follow up anyway. And boy was that a good decision, because this book was EVERYTHING.
Everything after this is spoilers...

I really wanted to Iike this book, I enjoyed the first in this series but unfortunately this was a miss for me. I haven’t seen anyone mention this so maybe I’m alone in feeling like I read someone’s fever dream. The MCs behavior was really confusing for most of the book until you find out why he’s acting that way but I still found him to be very unlikeable. The romance is definitely not the focus nor is the spice. If you’re like me and want both + plot, this probably isn’t the book for you. I’ll try book 3 when it’s released in the hopes it’ll be more like the first.

I stayed for the mystery, but the romance felt lacking in this one.

Sam felt a bit dull, but I guess it was because of that thing. I didn’t particularly like Roan/Goldilocks/Devil he felt arrogant and he would talk down to Sam which I hated. But the mystery was interesting even though there were a few plot holes here and there, there was a lot going on.

Another thing Fionn was such a weird addition to the friend group, like, he bullied Sam his whole life for being a fisherman’s and for having dyslexia yet suddenly after the incident he wants to be best friends? and didn’t even apologize for all the years of bullying. What the hell??? I know Sam was quite passive about it and would brush it off but it shouldn’t mean that Fionn gets a free pass into forgiveness.

It was nice seeing the fam (Trevor, Connor, Adonis, Lawrence, Nick), I hope we get to see more of them in the following book, especially the thing about Connor and also the thing about Austin, even though I still don’t particularly like him, but I did warm up to him a bit because of Sam.

I didn't even think of Sam when I thought of who could get a book in this series but I loved it nonetheless. Gave me the same anxiety build up of story where you know something is wrong. Hoping for bee, dew and Laurence mmm but maybe an mmmm with fionn in there too? And Austin? So many questions so much hope for the next one.

great sequel to an exciting series

couldn’t give it anything less than a 5. well written, interesting story, and unique from the first but not so divergent it didn’t feel like part of a series. excited to see who gets the next book, but i hope fionn causes some property damage in that one too.

I was expecting this to be a simple romance, and was absolutely blown away by the level of worldbuilding, storytelling and depth of the characters Sherleen creates. I will definitely be reading more of her books.

Wow is the best word to describe the second story in this series. Amazingly detailed and well thought out. Sam's story was no less impactful than Connors.

I really enjoyed reading Goldilocks, and it's also a very different feel than Adonis. We pick up roughly 5 months after the end of Adonis and follow Sam as he navigates being overwhelmed with taking care of his dad, who has dementia, attending college while he has dyslexia, maintaining the fishing boat with a very demanding merman tailing him, and processing the return of an older brother he has no memory of. It's a lot of subplots, in my opinion, that make up the plot of the book.

While I found it entertaining, I too felt overwhelmed with everything Sam was trying to balance. I could not put this book down despite feeling like the plot shifted every third of the book, along with Devil/Goldilocks/Roan's name. If that was on purpose, I love it; if not, it's a fun coincidence that Sam will refer to his merman love interest by a new name roughly as the subplot that's the focus shifts. This isn't to say that it feels disjointed or like the subplots are not always present because they intertwine with each other really well, just one seems to be the primary focus at a time.

I also really enjoy L. Sherleen's writing and felt like it was still very well done in painting a picture of the world and the characters. However, I also noticed a lot more "telling" in Goldilocks when compared to Adonis; it felt more like my hand was being held to make sure I was picking up on what was being shown to us. I didn't hate it, but I also don't love it.

Characters:
I loved all the characters. I felt like everyone was very well written with distinct personalities, desires, and motivations.
Goldilocks does come across as a bit of a smug asshole at the beginning, but you also learn about merman culture and can understand that in his culture, he wasn't doing anything to indicate that he looks down on Sam. I don't really care for the focus on dominance that he has, but I can also understand that it's part of the merman culture, and it is also clear how devoted he is to Sam from the beginning. Is he my favorite? No, but I can appreciate him as a character and do feel like he is a good balance for Sam.
As for Sam, he is strongly independent, to a fault, and super kind. He was an interesting narrator because he spent most of the book confused and slowly putting pieces together. I didn't think it was too confusing as a reader, but then again, I like trying to figure out the mystery in my books and am always paying attention to the little details that might end up important later.
For the side characters, we have a lot as well that we really get to know. I don't want to spoil anything, but I will say I would love to see more of Eric, Ivan, Lawerance, and even Fionn. I also NEED a book for Austin, please and thank you.

Romance:
I felt like the romance was mostly well handled. It's definitely a multicultural relationship, so there are a few snags here and there as they learn when and where to compromise and what that looks like for them. Which was interesting to me since we didn't see that nearly as much in Adonis, and also makes sense because Adonis didn't apparently hold a lot of value to the way things work in the world of the merman, while Goldilocks does. I also would have preferred to have seen Goldilocks and Sam meeting rather than hearing about it after the fact.

Mystery:
The mystery was well done, and honestly, what kept me the most invested in reading. I liked trying to figure out exactly how all the pieces came together because they are all linked; we just aren't sure how. I look forward to reading it again in the future to find all the hidden hints from the beginning because I know it's all there.

Overall, I really enjoyed this book, but I could also see how it won't be for everyone, especially if you go in expecting it to be very similar to Adonis because it's not. I look forward to reading the next one and seeing where we go from here because I'm so invested in this world.

This was... a lot of book, and a lot of story. I enjoyed it for the most part, but it was definitely a LOT to jump into without re-reading the first-in-series again, which I did not because THAT is also a lot of book. Right off the bat, it's written with a glut of characters we were introduced in the first one and allusions to the plot points of that one, and tbh it was too much, too fast, with no prep and no lube 🤣 I DEFINITELY did not remember who any of the side characters were other than the MCs of the first book, and like I said, there were a ton re-introduced here in the very beginning. If I wasn't craving the non-human dick/romance, I seriously might have thrown in the towel for that alone, and even with context clues throughout, it wasn't until probably the last... I don't know, 20% of the story that my memory had been jogged enough to piece together who most of them were. For new-to-the-series readers, I'd say WAIT and try and binge it all at once where it's complete, because so far, the first two books have long, convoluted plots, a ton of characters, do not really follow a conventional romance plot arc, and like I've said, once you get past the first book, it makes it hard to enjoy as thoroughly as if everything was fresh in your mind. I'll still probably pick up the next in series, because I have enjoyed the first two, but these books definitely aren't a quick binge.

For this story itself, outside of the romance - which is definitely not the main focus of the story - the plot was interesting enough to keep me engaged. I did enjoy the inclusion of some familial emotional drama between the brothers and the eventual reveal of the , which wasn't exactly a surprise given the build-up and clues along the way, but *was* well done IMHO in terms of how interconnected it was within the storyline, between .

For my personal taste, I didn't really fall for either MC, so if there hadn't been enough going on with the non-romance part of the plot, I very well might have DNF's based on their relationship. Sam was... potentially the kind of character I'd fall for, but ended up being both a little too passive and a little too harsh with to make me truly root for him. And Goldilocks... sigh. His arrogance could have come off as endearing but missed the mark by a hair. I didn't *dislike* him, but it wasn't tempered with enough adoration for Sam to make the attitude really work for me. I did appreciate the inclusion of their conversation about but there was still a lack of on-page emotional connection and chemistry that, as stated above, made the romance arc feel secondary.

Anyway, good book, a meaty read, and I definitely needed some fun, lighter escapism after I was done 🤣🤣🤣

Loved the first book, but it had its flaws and this one had some of those same flaws dialed up to 10. It really had me wishing the author would stop, and consider what she was writing and whether it made sense, because so much of this book doesn't!!!

Anyways, you will definitely want to read the 1st book before reading this one, not only cause it's better, but also because the author's attempts to create mystery throughout this story will just confuse you even more (likely you will believe you're missing crucial information when the reality is the characters are just behaving bizarrely for no good reason).

HEADS UP: the rest of this review contains some spoilers, though IMO they aren't major ones.

In the last book, the author used a bit of memory loss and MC passivity to gloss over some of the nonsensical things going on, but in this one? There is an an entire nonsensical plot hinging on these things. This is a minor spoiler, but we find out very early on that Sam has an older brother. An older brother that HE DOES NOT RECOGNIZE OR REMEMBER. Like literally, he's so unfamiliar with his own brother that he actually has to ask who he is when they meet.

And the thing is, everyone's reactions to the fact that Sam is seemingly missing large chunks of his memory (including his own passive reaction!) make no sense! Everyone just sort of shrugs it off, and no one seems to have much issue with it other than his brother (who is clearly more hurt than concerned).

It's incredibly bizarre, especially when you consider that everyone knows Sam's dad suffers from early dementia. I mean, come on! Sam's got some serious memory loss, and when you add in the fact that he can now barely read or write (people constantly text him but he can't text back) due to his steadily worsening "dyslexia," and his frequent and debilitating headaches, not to mention his inability to remember what classes he's signed up for, it makes absolutely no sense that people aren't more concerned for this guy.

You would think his crippling headaches alone would be enough for someone in his life to say hey wait a minute, maybe we should make sure this guy doesn't have a brain tumor or isn't about to die of an aneurysm. But nope! Everyone, including Sam, just acts like all these crazy symptoms are completely normal.

I didn't like how weirdly passive Sam was about it all (he makes some very odd decisions at times in this book), which is something that bothered me about Connor in the last book - the way Connor just passively accepted his (totally unfair) fate is kind of similar to the way Sam passively goes along with everything in this book. It's weird, and doesn't seem at all realistic.

This book does get 3 stars from me though, because even though i was annoyed at times, I DID finish it and I will probably give book 3 a try in hopes that it's better. I like the world the author's building and i'm still interested in the characters.

4.5 stars. this was just as phenomenal as the first book, although simultaneously, it was very different from it.

the first 30% were similar to the way adonis started and i was enjoying it a lot, but the tone of the story had begun to change after the one third of the book. the atmosphere evolved into more serious and dark style, with a grain of mystery and a disturbing feel of anxiousness at the end of the tongue. it was really interesting how this change was implemented into the story. at first, i wasn’t sure if this was going to work for me, but there was no need for hesitation, because it delivered in every sense. the writing is incredibly well-done and i love how the characters were depicted. sam was a terrific character - complex, layered and incredibly realistic. i felt deeply for him, as the situation he was put in was extremely difficult and he had to struggle a lot throughout the story. he was a character that i will definitely think about a lot in the future.

apart from the character portrayal, the way the relationships’ dynamics were constructed was very insightful and deliberate. i loved seeing sam and eric overcome their troubles and slowly get to know each other. it actually made me tear up a little. there was also a lot of amazing friendships built along the way, all unique in their own way.

the only reason that this book is not five stars is because i wasn’t in love with the romance part. i enjoyed it, but i wasn’t as obsessed as i was with connor and adonis. i do think sam and roan had good chemistry and though i liked them both very much, there was something missing there. the world-building might have been stronger in this installment, but above all else, i’m a romance kind of girl, so i needed to point that out.

with that said, this book was still phenomenal. l. sherleen is an incredibly talented author and this world continues to awe me with its complexity and depth. i devoured both books in one sitting and gave up my sleep to finish them, that’s how fascinated and gripped i was. i couldn’t recommend this series enough and i can’t wait to continue.

Mmm didn’t love it. Actually, I couldn’t wait for it to be done. I really disliked it.
For one, the world building is still shit. I let it go in the first book cause I figured we’d learn as we go but I was so irritation by characters not asking questions about this other world or details in it. It was maddening.

And the memory loss part was soooo disorienting, which granted, may have been the point but it was just too much. It led to me feeling zero emotional connection to any of the characters.
Sam and Goldilocks/Devil/Roan (seriously, what was with all the names?) - I felt zero chemistry. The last book was off the charts but this one? Nope.

And the plot… why were there ten thousand things happening at the same time? The stuff with Gary, drama with Austin, Eric coming back, school being a mess, Fionn being an asshole at first, Connor being a “monarch” but no one talking about it, the ghouls, a bunch of new characters, shall I go on? It was wayyyy too much.

And if the ghoul was feeding on them for years, where are the marks?
Why is Austin trying to go back to the old lab?
What’s going on with Eric and Ivan’s relationship? No one ever asks if they’re together or not? Ivan checking out Jasper says no but they were so together the whole time.
Why the HELL was no one more concerned for Sam’s health? I swear they were going to say he had a brain tumor cause of how bad his symptoms were. It was wild.

Next book is Nick which I’m not too excited about but hoping it’s better than this one.
I need a Laurence book stat. 😂

I did like the little moments of seeing Connor and Adonis again. The story about Adonis beaching himself and playing dead to get Connor to stay… 😂 too funny.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.

3.5 stars, but I'll round up. I quite liked the plot of this book, Sam's family, the mystery, etc. The missing time stuff was spooky. And the brothers' relationship was compelling. I did NOT like the romance. I do not enjoy Devil/Goldilocks/Roan as a character at ALL.

With Adonis we got to understand his character before we ever got to hear him actually speak. And he and Conner were good about communicating their issues and working through things even before then. With D/G/R (he needs a consistent name) he is introduced in one way, then suddenly like 20% in he speaks and is a quite different character. And he just acts like a rich asshole for the rest of the book. There's no arc to him, so why is he so awful? In the beginning he and Sam seemed on fairly even footing, but as soon as they can hold actual verbal conversations he talks down to him and lords his superiority over him constantly. And Sam at some point just…decides he likes it. Like there is a scene where I thought he was going to cut off their relationship, causing D/G/R to reflect on his behavior so they could find better communication. But instead he kisses him. Do not reward bad behavior, Sam.

In book 1 I was mainly in it for the romance, but I found myself fairly interested in the mystery/plot stuff. In this book I was put off by the romance, but stuck around because I was really interested in the mystery/plot. I guess it weighs out? I'll probably read more book as the come out, but hopefully D/G/R is just background character going forward. More Conner. What is this mysterious role he inhabits in the merfolk societal structure? More answers please.

I’m a fan of Lily, and I quite liked this book. I adore this series!

A few notes: I absolutely felt like we were thrown into this book. I read Adonis in August of last year, and honestly forgot a lot about the book, character names, etc. After beginning this book, I had to go back and revisit the first to search for names to figure out who is who and how/if we already know them. In that way, I think that perhaps the next book could improve. A little, subtle reminder of who is who never hurt!

Mini Spoilers START****

Unlike some of the other reviewers, I quite liked the romance. I didn’t mind Devil/Goldilocks/Roan in all of his multi-name glory. He was sulky, and while perhaps not as swoon worthy as Adonis, I thought his character was fun, and he obviously cared about Sam. I liked the way their relationship developed, and I didn’t mind when Sam simply accepted Roan in his sulk. To me, this fit with Sam’s character, who always gave everyone the benefit of the doubt and wanted to see the best in everyone.

Mini Spoilers END****

Overall, I really liked this book, and while I can’t rate it as high as I did the first book (which I rated 4.75/5, rounded to 5), I would give this a solid 4.25/5, rounded to 4!

I can’t wait to see what is coming next in the series and I’m so excited to learn more!!! Whose relationship will we get next? And why do I feel like Laurence might end up in a throuple with Dew and Bee?! lol

The setup of the main mystery was good and engaging, even though it was easy to guess what was going on - the creep factor was present. But towards the end, everything just became jumbled and the climax felt extremely underwhelming.

Roan was a much more interesting character than Adonis, by actually having some personality to him. Laurence was good in his “innocent” brattiness. To my surprise, Fionn essentially became my favourite by the end of the book. Sam’s interactions with Austin were also good, but went nowhere due to an open ending/cliffhanger. I suppose the next book is going to focus on him more?

The memory wipe at the crucial moment felt too much like a plot device (which it very much was), and the only good thing about it was the funny hospital scene where Sam is questioning everything people are telling him about himself - including that he could possibly be dating Roan.

The ghoul “brother” had a lot of potential, if the author spent more time looking into the implications of its interactions with Sam (It tried to read to him? It fussed over his head wound? It saved Sam’s house from being burned down by Austin? But it also beat Sam?). Instead, it was mostly swept under the rug as this “mean” monster.

"Goldilocks" received THREE AND A HALF stars.

Once the story got moving, I enjoyed the characters and the plot. I’m looking forward to the next in the series.

The novel gained *stars* for these items:

* gained for: "The book caught my interest in the first five pages."

* gained for: "I thought about the book when I was forced to set it down and re-enter society."

1/2 * gained for: "There were no info dumps, poor writing, or copy edit mistakes that jerked me out of the story." The story moved extremely slow. Also it had been a while (and many, many books ago) since I read the first book in the series. I was very confused in the beginning about Conner’s family, when Sam met Adonis, and the whole merpeople situation in general. I would have appreciated more backstory or a short recap on Book 1 so I didn’t feel quite so lost.

* gained for: "I was sad when the book ended. I wanted more!"

The novel failed to gain stars for this item:

NO STAR gained for: "That's it. I'm hooked on this author. I will automatically try anything she/he/they writes."

Goldilocks and Sam ❤️

I love the mer people's powers and magic. Sam is so sweet and steady. He is precious. Everyone needs a Sam. I love how patient he is with his "devil". It's so funny when he realizes he's just trying to get him to stop doing the things that make him miserable. I love that he paints Roan all the time. They're adorable together. "If a stranger were to pick up Sam’s sketchbook, they would think Roan the center of the universe." #swoon
I was confused for the first half of the story. Then I started to realize what the mystery was. This story made me cry so much. Poor Eric and Sam. I'm so glad Eric has Ivan. It is funny when Sam winds him up.
I started listening to the first book, Adonis, two days after I finished reading it. It's so good! I love the narrator's Irish accent. After reading Goldilocks I realized there are a lot little hints that I missed in Adonis that are so cool! I love these books. I love the cover art too. For Adonis and Goldilocks. They're gorgeous.
I can't wait for more in this series to come out!

fun read

Good read overall. Got some more lore and plot movement. I didn’t like Sam as much as I thought I would. I do like him, but he isn’t the cinnamon roll I thought he was, so it was an adjustment of expectations. To be fair, what we learned of him was through another character’s perspective. He was still a good protagonist.

As usual, a territorial love interest isn’t my jam. He’s worse than Adonis. To me, Adonis has red flags. Roan is red flags. He loves Sam. I believe it. But the dominating and domineering traits he has are not it.

The book was well written so although the romance wasn’t what I kept reading for, the plot was. We learned interesting things, scary things have passed through the Tear, revelations were made in passing. It’s enough to keep me invested. I wonder who the next book is about. My guess, its the other kid that got experimented on. His name eludes me at the moment.

I am obsessed with this universe and it's characters. I loved the first book and everyone we met during Adonis and Connor’s story and I was seriously hoping his brothers and maybe even Austin would get a story but we got Sam’s first instead! Sam and Goldilocks aka Roan are really lovely. Sam is lonely and struggling and it’s clear from the start something is wrong when every time he enters his house the reader is suddenly transported to the next chapter/day. His relationship with Roan grows so suddenly it’s kinda silly in the way that he has no qualms with Roan’s insistence on ‘mounting’ him. But they’re really sweet together and you get to see that sweetness from Roan’s perspective when he first encounters Sam’s art. The time he spends admiring and looking after it only to find that artist too is someone kind and admirable. There were moments of confusion but those were quickly resolved. I love the found family vibes they’re giving off.
