ive read enough books by SC that i know his tells, leading me to figure out the ending pretty early on. but that didnt lessen my enjoyment of this by any means.

once again, as with every book in this series, the highlight of the story is the trial. i dont know how to describe it, but watching eddie flynn dominate the courtroom is like experiencing art. from expertly cross-examining, to turning the tables in such satisfying ways, and just knowing he and his team are most likely two steps ahead is so rewarding. i just love the way EFs mind works and how he sets up everything to ensure what he wants to happen will happen.

the only reason this isnt getting 5 stars is because im just not obsessing over the events of the book. yes, the story is engaging. yes, the plot is twisty. yes, its a well told story. but im just not quite freaking out over it. still really good and i did enjoy it more than the previous book!

Steve Cavanagh's hotshot lawyer Eddie Flynn is back, in his latest gripping and fast paced New York City legal thriller, a truly thrilling and twisted addition featuring the most hated woman in the country as his client. Notorious serial killer, The Sandman, killing mostly women, rips out their eyes and pours sand over the victim's face, has been revealed by the FBI as Daniel Miller, a wealthy hedge fund manager, but he remains at large. Instead, his wife, Carrie, has been charged and facing trial as his accomplice, her home is under siege, the public and media loathe her and protesters are targeting her. Her pre-trial preparation lawyer, Otto Peltier, has approached Eddie to take over her defense for the trial as he has little experience, but Eddie is wary. It may be hottest case in America, with a promised payday that most lawyers can only dream of, but he will only take on clients he believes are innocent, he still carries the trauma of having previously defended the guilty.

When he meets Carrie, he sees a woman heavily weighed down by a sense of grief and guilt, her suffering persuades him that she is innocent, although he can feel Carrie has not told him everything as he sets out to defend her. He and his hardworking and talented team, consisting of ex-judge, mentor and now consultant Harry Ford, partner Kate Brooks, investigator Bloch and his over-qualified office manager, Denise, are the only ones who believe Carrie is innocent, and simply another victim of the Sandman. They are joined by Gabriel Lake, once a former FBI agent before someone tried to kill him, he believes everything the FBI knows about serial killers is false, and he is a man who wants revenge. Interspersed throughout the narrative is the perspective of the Sandman, intent on saving and freeing his much loved wife, he is once again killing to protect Carrie, and everyone, including Eddie and his team are a target.

Cavanagh once again pulls off another stellar addition to his wonderful series with his terrific plotting, and the creation and development of his charismatic ex-conman lawyer, Eddie Flynn. Flynn is on top form here, despite being under severe emotional stress, setting out to win against all the odds, deploying his familiar bag of strategies in a riveting and tense courtroom drama. He finds himself forced to adapt to unforseen circumstances, and utilising childhood friends like Jimmy 'the Hat' Fellini. This is a terrifically entertaining crime read, full of shocks and twists, that will appeal to existing fans of the series, and to other crime, mystery and thriller fans. Many thanks to the publisher for an ARC.

If there are more gripping, exciting legal thrillers than the Eddie Flynn series, I have yet to find them. This is the 7th in the best-selling and award-winning series by author Steve Cavanagh featuring Lawyer Eddie Flynn. These books always present unique situations and difficult investigations leading up to a trial. The trials always contain intense suspense, shocking twists and surprises. The storyline is fast-paced, and the chills and thrills never let up.

Eddie Flynn is a resourceful, cunning, brilliant defence lawyer. He will not agree to defend anyone unless truly convinced they are innocent. In his former life, before becoming a lawyer, Eddie was a con-man. His past gives a unique perspective to the legal drama. He is not averse to using some underhanded trickery he learned in his past in defence of his client. Furthermore, he has some shady acquaintances from former times to call upon when needing their specialized help.

The FBI has been unsuccessful in apprehending a cruel, clever, and diabolical serial killer called the Sandman. After 14 killings, he evaded capture. His signature was removing the victim's eyes and pouring sand into their damaged faces and mutilated bodies. He collects their eyes and pieces of their jewellery. The Sandman has now been identified as wealthy hedge fund manager Daniel Miller. He is still at large, but his wife, Carrie, has been arrested as his accomplice in six of his murders. She has become notorious as the most hated woman in America. Carrie's trial is to start shortly, and now the Sandman is back, killing witnesses and taking an important hostage. He threatens to kill his captive and others unless Carrie is found innocent and set free.

Carrie's pre-trial lawyer, Otto Peltier, wants to turn over the high-profile, financially lucrative trial to Eddie's team. Otto feels she is innocent but lacks experience in conducting a criminal trial. He says she was not involved in the murders but she came to suspect her husband, Daniel, after his frequent absences, and his gifts of some of the victim's jewellery. Eddie agrees to take the case, only if he interviews Carrie and decides for himself that she is innocent. He finds her distraught and feeling guilty for not realizing she was married to a serial killer and failure to report her suspicions. Convinced of her innocence, Eddie is aware she is withholding some information.

Eddie's team seems to be alone in their belief in Carrie's innocence. Members of the team are: his legal partner Kate Brooks, the tough, fearless female investigator, Block, retired judge and mentor, Harry Ford, and Denise, the highly efficient office manager. They are joined by ex-FBI officer, Gabriel Lake. Someone tried to kill him and he is bent on revenge. Lake thinks that everything the FBI knows about serial killers is wrong, and only he can apprehend the Sandman. Eddie's goal will be to present Carrie to the jury as just another victim of her husband's crimes. Not an easy task as she disappears before the trial commences.

As in the previous books, the trial presents many exhillarating, jaw-dropping moments, and the surprises keep coming after the trial has ended.

Eddie Flynn is back, and “The Accomplice” just may be my FAVORITE in the series, to date!!

The serial killer dubbed “The Sandman” is one of the most cunning and cruel murderers that the FBI has ever faced. After brutally killing his Victims, he removes their eyes for his souvenirs replacing them with sand-and takes their jewelry for Carrie.

FBI agent Paige Delaney has him in her sight and is about to finally apprehend him.

Or so she thought.

Turns out, “The Sandman” now known to be Daniel Miller-knew they were on to him, and he has vanished. Only his wife, Carrie Miller is home, when they descend upon his home to make the arrest.

When they search their house they find some evidence that they feel incriminates her as an accomplice…or at the least, a person who knew about her husband’s crimes and failed to report them, choosing instead to help him by providing an alibi or covering them up.

And, America needs someone to PAY in his absence- So, Carrie Miller will be brought to trial.

Her lawyer, Otto Peltier, is in over his head, so when he can’t cut a deal for his client, he implores Eddie’s team to take over. His partner Kate believes that Carrie is another of her husband’s Victims, and that she is innocent- and she wants the case!

But, Eddie won’t defend anyone he believes is guilty. He will need to be convinced.

What they NEVER could have anticipated was that the Sandman is willing to come out of hiding to save Carrie-he loves her and he never expected her to be arrested in his place!

Eddie is informed in no uncertain terms that he will get Carrie acquitted or pay the price so he enlists the help of ex FBI agent, Gabriel Lake, to help him gather the intel he needs.

We also get insight from the journal of Carrie Miller and from “The Sandman” himself.

Each book in the series CAN be read as a stand-alone (I got hooked when I read Thirteen-not realizing that it was part of a series) but, for maximum enjoyment, read the books in order so you can appreciate the character growth and the developments in their personal lives.

Eddie returns to the “starring role” that he deserves in this installment, and his clever trial shenanigans are better than ever!

In the author’s acknowledgments he thanks his readers for spreading the word about Eddie Flynn and shares his hope that he can entertain us for years to come.

If you are reading this, Steve Cavanagh- your readers also hope that Eddie Flynn will be entertaining us for years to come, and we can’t wait for the next installment!

Because I cannot get these in the U.S. as soon as they publish (why oh why? 🤦🏻‍♀️) I pre-ordered a copy from The Book Depository in the UK!

4.5⭐

“The courtroom had no natural light. A concrete box filled with loss, hate, betrayal, murder, corruption and lies. It was the great theatre of human weakness.”

Carrie Miller, the wife of a serial killer who goes by the name of The Sandman, is our conman turned lawyer Eddie Flynn’s latest client. When her husband, hedge fund manager Daniel Miller, absconds, Carrie is charged with being his accomplice to his seventeen murders based on evidence found in their home. Eddie Flynn and his team are convinced of her innocence after meeting her at the insistence of her lawyer Otto Peltier, who cited his own lack of trial experience and requests Eddie Flynn to take the case. Aiding them is ex-FBI agent Lake who has a personal stake in finding the killer. Eddie’s friends from his conman days also make their appearance, providing help as and when Eddie needs it. The Sandman also wants Carrie acquitted and will go to any length to ensure the same. The Sandman’s killing spree isn’t over and Eddie is in a race against time to win his case not only to prove Carrie’s innocence but also to save one of his team from becoming The Sandman’s next victim.

Fast–paced, suspenseful, with loads of thrills inside and out of the courtroom, the seventh book in Steve Cavanagh’s Eddie Flynn series does not disappoint! The narrative is shared through multiple perspectives including The Sandman, which dials the tension up a notch and keeps you hooked till the very last page. Some of the best features of Cavanagh’s novels are his short chapters and crisp writing with no excesses and his treatment of the characters. I enjoyed Eddie Flynn’s dynamic with his team and loved that each of his team members has a role to play. I won’t say that the final reveal is completely hard to predict (I did guess some parts), but I did enjoy the ride and the ending.

Overall, The Accomplice by Steve Cavanagh is a cleverly-plotted, riveting read! I can’t wait for the next installment in this series.

See, this is why I love rereading. My terrible memory was made to reread. I forgot everything that happened and I’m so glad I did, because yes, whilst this is a reread, I read it for the first time today.

The plot twists kept on twisting and it was too damn genius.

————————————

In typical Cavanagh fashion, this was fuckin beautiful, a clever and well thought-out story and a mind-fuck.

I already knew I was going to love this. This author is just one of those authors I trust to get a story right and to tell it well. And he absolutely did that.

Eddie Flynn #7

Paige Delaney of the FBI is outside an expensive house in Old Westbury, New York. They are hunting the Coney Island Killer otherwise known as The Sandman who to date has killed 17 victims and has a grotesque and unique signature with sand. They have reason to believe the Sandman is wealthy hedge fund manager Daniel Miller, he’s not there but his wife Carrie is. She is arrested and six months later indicted by the grand jury on six counts of homicide as she is considered his accomplice. Otto Peltier is her lawyer but he’s not a criminal lawyer and so he pleads with Eddie and his team to take the case but Eddie takes some convincing to accept. Like many others Eddie is full of questions. Is Carrie innocent? Has she been duped and betrayed by Daniel? How can you not know your husband is a serial killer? Kate believes Carrie is a victim too but many a Joe Public believes she’s guilty so would she ever get a fair trial? The team are up against it with this one but let’s face it, when are they not??!!

Wow, with this powerful latest instalment of this terrific series I dont know if my heart is in my mouth or it’s sinking, all I can tell is that it’s all over the place!

First of all, The Sandman. He’s audacious, cunning, and very clever and to say he is without scruple is a huge understatement. Some of the ideas the author introduces about him are excellent and allow you to get a clear picture. The tension is utterly taut, it’s creepy and chilling, scary and frightful and beyond dangerous, yet Steve Cavanagh knows just went to release the built up tension by giving us a smile or a chuckle. Thank you!

The characterisation is tremendous and I really like the introduction of Gabriel Lake, ex FBI agent who joins the tightknit family team of Eddie and Co. He is a fascinating conundrum. The bond of Eddie’s team is terrific , when they’re down so are you and when they’re up you cheer with them.

The plot as fast paced and on occasions it’s belting along at warp speed making it exciting and completely gripping. At times I yell ‘Nooooo’ which gets a few odd glances but that’s how involved you get. It’s almost like you’re there and living it with them.

The courtroom scenes are, as ever, completely electric with plenty of entertaining and lively Eddie moves that fans of the series love so much. Just like Eddie in the courtroom the author plays the reader like a fiddle, fool me once, oh okay, at least twice! The twists are belters, the tension is palpable along with the breathtaking suspense which all amounts to yet another cracking read and an easy five stars from me.

Can’t wait for the next instalment !

With thanks to NetGalley and especially to Orion Publishing for that much appreciated arc in return for an honest review.

4,5 😲⚡️☄️🤩🌟🌟🌟🌟s❗️❗️❗️❗️

You know what's the worst thing that will happen to you once you finish the last Eddie Flynn book by Steve Cavanagh? Wonder how to cope until the next one!!! 😱😫
Yet, the wait is undoubtedly worth it!! 🤩

He has created an amazing character, Eddie Flynn, and his books are each one better than the other!

Eddie Flynn is an addiction.
You never know what he will come up with! He is unpredictable and compelling.
His stories are brilliant and so perfectly orchestrated!

The Accomplice was a fantastic story!!!
I devoured it!!
Fast paced, intense, mind blowing and gripping!! While I couldn’t stop reading, I was dreading the moment when I would reach the last page!
The twists and the turns towards the end had my jaw dropped!!!

Now, what disappointed me.
This series has definitely evolved, regarding the writing style, the storyline and the characters.
However, I noticed that in the last two instalments, Eddie was not the primary character (in his own series) and the courtroom scenes were minimised.
The aspect of legal thriller was less extensive, whereas the one of crime thriller was more.
I want more time with Eddie and less with his wonderful team, because his time is being limited… 🥺

I will be definitely anticipating for my next reading rendezvous with my dearest and magnificent Eddie!!!

It's the seventh book in the Eddie Flynn series. This time the defendant is the wife who is being tried as an accomplice in her husband’s serial killings. All the usual ‘Eddie Flynn series’ elements are there and the book is entertaining as ever, but I have ambivalent feelings about it. As a standalone, it works well and is as enjoyable as all of the others. Seen, however, as another in a series , everything is beginning to get old for me. The initial necessary commitment to believing in the innocence of the defendant, the life threatening danger to one of the team, Eddie’s destruction of the expert witness testimony, and so on are all repeated. Maybe I just read this one too soon after the last one. Four stars if standalone, but three stars if we consider it as the latest in the series.

I have a new favourite Eddie Flynn book! The Accomplice is the 7th book featuring lawyer Eddie Flynn and his team. In my experience, as I read them out of order to begin with, they can easily be read as stand alone novels. If you love fast paced stories that will keep you reading way into the night. You have to meet Eddie.

The tag line on the cover had me intrigued and needing to know more… “Being married to a serial killer is murder” How could you pass up on that. As soon as this book landed on my doorstep I started it. I was quickly caught up in the dangerous world of Eddie and his team as they defend the wife of The Sandman.  She has been charged with being his partner in crime but claims that she is innocent. And Eddie only represents those that he believes are innocent. Carrie Miller is the wife of Daniel Miller, a rich, business man in New York. The police believe that she helped him with a handful of his 17 murders. He is on the run so Carrie is their next best option. But the Sandman wants his wife freed, and will do whatever I takes to make that happen.

So as well as a clever legal thriller, we get the added bonus of a serial killer. I love a good serial killer book. This killer is vicious, and takes his victims eyes as trophy’s, leaving behind sand in their place. I will never hear Mr Sandman, bring me a dream the same way again.

As always with Steve Cavanagh books, we have a roller coaster ride on the way to a thrilling conclusion. I wanted to both devour and savour this book, it was so very well done.

Easily all the stars for this one. Thank you Hachette Australia for my advanced copy of this book to read. Published in Australia on July 26th

Recomendable.

This book was awesome! The whole series is awesome! I can’t get enough of Eddie Flynn.

Eddie Flynn is approached by fellow lawyer Otto Peltier to defend Carrie Miller in her murder trial, due to start in a few days. Peltier is not a criminal defence lawyer, he specialises in estate law, commercial/property law and the odd divorce.

Carrie’s husband, Daniel Miller is being sought in connection with about 13 murders but hasn’t been seen for a year. Is he even still in the country? He is known as the Sandman for reasons which you learn when you the book. I’m not going to say 🤐. Now the DA has charged Carrie with being an accomplice or at least knowing about 6 of these murders. She went to Peltier (as he was Danny’s lawyer) wanting legal advice about what to do, what to tell the police. She insists that, while she developed suspicions about her husband’s murderous activities, she was not absolutely sure and had no actual evidence.

Well this case really puts Eddie’s skills to the test. With 2 days until the case starts Carrie skips bail. Without her testimony, there is near zero chance of getting her acquitted. But Eddie has to win this case to save a life that is dear to him.

The courtroom scenes are typically brilliant as he dismantles prosecution witnesses and pull some rabbits out of hats! We meet a new character in this book - Gabriel Lake is a former FBI agent who is quite unorthodox in his approach so they parted ways but his sales pitch is “I hunt serial killers” and that gets him in the door, That, there is some boyfriend material but as he is partnered up with Bloch, their kick ass investigator, who knows what might develop. Former judge Harry gets back into the courtroom and it is obvious he hasn’t lost any of his sharpness.

The characters are superb and the pacing was super fast as we had literally a ticking clock! But the twists - there wasn’t an avalanche of them but what we got was pure gold. I did not see this one coming at all! And now I hope that Mr Cavanagh is beavering away at the next book because I can’t to read it!

Eddie Flynn, I’ve missed you! I was so happy to finally read another Flynn novel and knew it would be good. This time Flynn gets a high profile case where the wife of a serial killer needs a defendant since the police think she helped her husband. Flynn believes her, as does his team.

As always, Flynn’s intelligence, ability to think outside the box and grit impresses and keeps the reader engaged. The clock is ticking, because someone close to Flynn is in danger. And the ending! Simply magnificent and beautifully crafted.

I was very satisfied with the accomplice and know others will be as well.

Huge thanks to Orion for my ARC approval- on my birthday no less! I was squealing and jumping up and down on the hotel bed when I got the email!
Eddie Flynn is back! And he's back with a bang!
A spectacular read as always, Steve Cavanagh really can do no wrong in my eyes!
I am a huge legal thriller fan, and I also think I have rather high standards- so to succeed in this genre is quite something.
I have been telling all my thriller fans to put Cavanagh n their TBRs- he will never let you down if you're looking for a suspense-filled, thrilling read that you are OBSESSED with for the time you are reading it, and the months after finishing (until the next book comes out)!
The plot had me hooked immediately, and I was back with my old friends Eddie, Kate and Bloch.
As for the ending, wow. I had some idea for some of it, but the actual ending was simply stunning, and wonderfully crafted.
When is the next book due?! I need it ASAP.

What a roller coaster ride!

Glad to return to the world of Steve Cavanagh and the Eddie Flynn legal thrillers, I turned to the latest instalment of the series. Cavanagh takes an interesting approach to the law and investigation in a piece that shows just how on the ball the author can be when it comes to the world of serial killers. A strong story and great characters help elevate the book and make me yearn for more as soon as possible.

Eddie Flynn has been enjoying his legal practice for the last number of years, choosing who he represents and making sure criminal defence work receives as stellar a reputation as possible. When his team is approached by a lawyer to take on the defence of Carrie Miller, arguably the most hated woman in America. Carrie is the wife of Daniel Miller, also known as The Sandman, a horrific serial killer who is still on the loose. While Carrie professes to being innocent of any wrongdoing, the court of public opinion is clearly ruling against her.

While Eddie is hesitant to take the case, he’s persuaded by something deep inside him. Preparing to defend her on charges of being an accomplice to murder, Eddie knows that it will be an uphill battle, exacerbated by the fact that his client has skipped bail. Add to that The Sandman is lurking in the shadows and still killing, when he makes a bold move; kidnapping one of Eddie’s team members and promising to release her only when Carrie is exonerated.

As the drama in court heats up, events around New York are also changing, such that the truth evolves with each passing hour. While Eddie may have a lock on helping Carrie, the truth about The Sandman soon comes into question, leaving some to wonder if Daniel Miller’s as sinister as many would believe. It will take Eddie’s best work to save his client and a team member from sure chaos. If anyone can do it, it’s Eddie Flynn! Cavanagh does a wonderful job at keeping the reader thoroughly engaged throughout.

I remember stumbling upon the Eddie Flynn series and bingeing the first few novels. Since then, I have tried to keep my eyes open for new submissions by Steve Cavanagh, all of which open my eyes to new angles of American criminal defence. Cavanagh knows his stuff and keeps the reader completely engaged as they progress through the story, making this the perfect piece for any who have a penchant for legal thrillers.

The strength of the story is founded in Cavanagh’s ability to cobble together a powerful narrative, as is usually the case. He uses this as a means of leading the reader along a path that keeps the momentum going and provides a collection of stunning revelations along the way. Great characters, whose presence make for a more entertaining read, return and provide some lighter banter at times, as the subject matter is quite intense. Plot twists and reveals help the reader remain on the edge of their seat and leave little room for mass predictability. I have always enjoyed when Steve Cavanagh writes and will eagerly await his next book, which I hope is in the works now!

Kudos, Mr. Cavanagh, for keeping me entertained and highly in tune with the world of legal thrillers.

Eddie Flynn and his associates are called on again to perform their defense attorney magic in this 7th outing. This time they’re up against the clock with a serial killer, known as The Sandman, out there picking off victims while their client sits facing life, accused of being his accomplice in several of his crimes.

One thing that Steve Cavanagh seems to have a real knack for is being able to come up with some particularly evil villains and in conjuring up The Sandman here, he’s produced a real doozy. Not only is he a prolific murderer but he’s come up with a particularly creepy M.O. and, yes, we get a play by play forensic analysis of his work, so be prepared.

From the get-go we know the name of The Sandman, that’s not the problem, what we’re concerned with is whether his wife was aware that he was a serial killer and whether she was a knowing participant in some of his crimes. Daniel Miller is a wealthy hedge fund manager and has been running amok for years. His wife, Carrie, is absolutely distraught that her vague suspicions have proven to be true.

Eddie has been hired for the case after the original lawyer, Otto Peltier, finds himself over his head in such a serious case. Eddie’s only rule when deciding whether to take cases is that he must be convinced the defendant is innocent. But when the rest of the country is baying for his client’s blood, convinced she is as guilty as her husband, it’s clear that this is going to be an emotional case.

Unusually for a book in the Eddie Flynn series, I found the first third particularly slow moving, almost bordering on boring. No, no, I won’t call it boring, I think I prefer to categorise it as a careful set-up. When you consider the graphic nature of the crimes committed by the serial killer that were described during this time, it’s scarcely believable that it could be anything other than mesmerising.

So, although there are some pretty frighteningly gruesome scenes to be had in the early stages, it’s always the courtroom scenes in any Eddie Flynn book that are the most riveting and this is certainly the case here. It doesn’t seem to matter how nailed down the prosecution’s case appears, Eddie always seems to be able to come up with a zinger or two to scuttle a witness’ testimony. It’s not so much the fact that he does it, it’s the way that he does it that’s so entertaining.

Fortunately, once the case reaches the courtroom, the pace quickens dramatically and, with the Sandman continuing to stay active, bodies are piling up while drama ensues in the court. The result is yet another legal thriller that takes high stakes drama to a completely new level.

Eddie Flynn, along with the assistance of his investigator Bloch and the legal cunning of former judge Harry Ford and partner Kate Brooks, wades through more than just courtroom drama. A serial killer on the loose means that he and his team are also under the possible imminent threat of attack and that provides a further layer of jeopardy to the case.

Throw in the usual unexpected twists that have become a vital part of Steve Cavanagh’s exquisite plotting genius and The Accomplice provides another great chapter in the always entertaining Eddie Flynn series.

I received a gifted copy of this book to read in exchange for an honest review as part of the readalong hosted by Tandem Collective UK.

The Accomplice is the first book by Steve Cavanagh that I've had the pleasure of reading, and he is now an author whose blacklist I desperately want to devour!
The story begins with the police catching up to a serial killer and making a move on taking him down. Upon their raid, the wife Carrie also becomes a suspect and is taken in for being suspected of being her husbands accomplice. After he slips the net of being captured, Carrie is on bail standing to face trial. Eddie and his team have been persuaded to take on her case and prove her innocence, and the killer strikes again and again, demanding they clear her name. The twists in this book are breathtaking, and I couldn't put it down. The book has multiple POVs, and I found every character interesting and intriguing and can't wait to find out more on every single character. Lake was a fantastic addition to the team, and I really hope he makes another appearance so I can learn more about him - he's definitely a wild card! This was a fast-paced, action-packed, twisty courtroom infused read, and I absolutely loved every second of it!

Picture this.. You've made it to the infamous 'big reveal' in the court room. You're sat there all smug thinking "Finally, I've cracked the twist in an Eddie Flynn book". And then WHAM! You're left with your jaw dropped once again on the final bloody chapter!

There is a reason this book series is one of my all time favourites. I've yet to be disappointed and I'm always left impressed. They are fast paced, witty and incredibly clever. Steve Cavanagh never leaves a loose end and always delivers an impactful finish.

I'm already looking forward to the next one!

Eddie Flynn and his team of legal eagles have returned to New York City and are presently challenged with defending a serial killer’s wife who has been charged as his accomplice. By hook or by crook, Eddie always manages to outwit his opponents with a combination of his legal skills and a trick or two up his sleeve learned from his time as a conman. Joining the defense team this round is the enigmatic and reticent Gabriel Lake, a former FBI agent. I certainly hope to see more of this guy to get the full scoop on what makes him tick. It seems certain that whatever happened in his past is dangerous, dark and heartbreaking.

They say he’s a monster – and that she knew.
Did she, or didn’t she?

Don’t expect sweet dreams or soft lullabies from The Sandman! He only delivers bloodcurdling screams and terror-filled nightmares in this explosive serial killer storyline. So shocking that it should come with a warning label. I can only offer this advice: Don’t trust anyone!

Steve Cavanagh’s books run on a cocktail of adrenaline and breathtaking fear. To the very last word readers will be blindsided by the turn of events in this baffling case tangled with depravity and unspeakable evil. Brutal, dark, gory and gritty and definitely not for the faint of heart – or weak stomachs. But crime drama enthusiasts will love it!

The courtroom scenes are some of the best parts wonderfully concocted with hotbeds of drama, tension and lively entertainment. At times it’s a struggle to keep a straight face and concede to the seriousness of the matter at hand. Before retiring, Judge Harry ruled from the judicial bench with a gavel in his hand. Now he’s riding shotgun beside Eddie at the defense table lending guidance, knowledge and support. I really enjoy the back-and-forth banter between Eddie and his mentor. Together they make a powerful team.

I don’t know whether to label Cavanagh as a madman or a mastermind – but this book is brilliantly and meticulously conceived and executed. As always, after finishing one of his books, he leaves me shivering, shaking and all shook-up! The combination of Steve Cavanagh and Eddie Flynn never fails to leave this reader begging for more (hopefully sooner than later)!

Another brilliant book from Steve Cavanagh.
Flynn and the team are asked to defend Carrie, who had been accused of being an accomplice to her husband’s murders.
Danny is nowhere to be found but that doesn’t stop the FBI charging Carrie.
Flynn and the team believe Carrie is innocent and as always will pull out the stops to try and win her case.
What they hadn’t bargained for is the killer playing his own game with them and putting a life at risk.
This is a fast paced thriller that I really enjoyed.
Thanks to Orion Publishing Group and NetGalley for the opportunity to read this book.
