A historical western cowboy romance novel about a mail order bride. ** A clean romance novel ** Jamie Collins doesn't have much to live for in Walhalla, North Dakota. Her husband passed away two years ago and she has been working as a housekeeper on a ranch. Jamie's employers are difficult people to work for and she dreams of getting away from them and Cypress. She has a history with men and is ostracized by many of the townspeople. Jamie wants a better life but has no way to make that happen. Jamie comes across an ad in The Walhalla Press for mail-order-brides. She jumps at the chance to find a good man and secure a happy future. Ever the realist, she knows that the chances of making a love-match are slim, but she'll settle for a good man who is a good provider. She finds an advertisement from a younger Montana ranch hand that catches her eye and she sets her sights on him. It should be easy to wrap him around her little finger. Luke Samuels has had a rough couple of years. He's been jilted by the girl of his dreams and laid off from his employment with a local Dawson County, Montana ranch. His cousin Dean Samuels hires Luke on as a ranch hand. Luke sees how happy Dean and Tessa are together and wants that kind of happiness for himself. Even though he's painfully gun shy about the opposite sex, he's willing to take a chance to find a bride who's a sure thing. Leaving nothing to chance, he enlists the help of his cousin Marcus Samuels to help him write the perfect ad that will entice a willing female to come to Montana. When they meet, Luke is bowled over by the beauty with the emerald green eyes and auburn hair, but is instantly tongue-tied. Jamie is not sure how they're going to develop a relationship when he can barely talk to her, but she sets out to seduce the handsome man with the soulful brown eyes and sweet smile. A game of cat and mouse ensues and Jamie finds out that marrying Luke is easy, but capturing his heart is going to be harder than she anticipates.

I'm a sucker for a happy ever after featuring a hot ranch hand. In this story, Luke Samuels meets Jamie Collins through placing an ad for a bride in a newspaper. Jamie is fun, wild and free but loyal and loving too. Luke is shy, handsome and loyal. Great HEA book.

I reviewed this through Audiobook Boom in exchange for a fair review.
The reader; J. Scott Bennett, does a decent job. I didn't find him distracting, but I wasn't crazy about his voices for women.
Author isn't my cuppa...

Jamie and Luke
Luke is lonely but gun shy with women after being jilted at the alter. He just wants a guaranteed wife.... so Marcus (Mr. matchmaker from the first 3 books in the series), writes an ad for him for a mail order bride. Jamie longs to leave town but has no options, until she read Luke's ad. The attraction is instant and Luke's shy but sincere demeanor balances Jamie's wild and playful one. There's a lot of references to the first 3 books so maybe some mild spoilers.
Jamie is quite sensually beautiful and playful and so people tend to make assumptions that she is of easy virtue. This gets played up quite a bit and becomes a podium for the author to sermonize on. It got quite tiresome and I started to not like Jamie. I know you shouldn't be judged for your looks, but she was so self righteous and then gives Luke the 'silent treatment' for weeks. WEEKS! Talk about holding a grudge. Does the author have anything to say about this childish behavior? No. Everything is the man's fault, when I thought he was just concerned for what people would think of her. Oh and don't get me started on the gambling! Stupid behavior leads to stupid consequences, but the author doesn't have anything to moralize on about that.
If I hadn't promised to review this one, I would have DNFed at 2/3rd in when she started with the silent treatment for Luke, not even letting him explain himself.
Hope the next one is better with less sermonizing by the author.

Westward Destiny the 4th book of the Montana Mail Order Brides series was not my favorite thus far, but still very entertaining. I really enjoy the inhabitants of this small Montana town.

Jamie was not liked by many in her hometown of Walhalla, North Dakota. This was mostly in part because she didn't follow tradition. Most of the women during that time were respectable and careful to not stand out. Jamie was the opposite. She stood out like a flashing light in the dark. While I admire women that march to the beat of their own drum and are true to themselves I felt that Jamie was just an attention seeker. It seemed that she just wanted to be shocking and looked at. That's where her character fell short for me. There are people in this world that just naturally stand out and demand attention and I wouldn't even care that Jamie liked to go to bars, play cards and tell dirty jokes which was way out of line for most women, but she did that stuff meanwhile adding in over the top behavior so she was sure the world saw what she was doing. Or at least that's how I felt reading it.

Luke was a character that I loved. He was a hardworking man that was honorable and loyal. So when he fell for Jamie it was a bit disappointing for me. Don't get me wrong she had a lot of good characteristics and made Luke happy but it just seemed that he had to sacrifice everything for her happiness rather than it being an even agreement.

The author would have done better to make this about time travel so there would be room for allowance of the modern-day references in this late 19th-century setting. Examples: The heroine giving "wedgies" to her fiance after only knowing him a couple days, talk of "getting plastered", etc.

I listened to the audio version of Books 4-6, narrated by J. Scott Bennett. I've posted reviews up on Audible and on Amazon, but I thought I'd write a more detailed review here for the author, herself. I am in no way trying to discourage her from writing, I found the stories pleasant enough, and as said in the other reviews, it depends on what a reader is looking for in reading the book. I have an interest in history and grew up reading Louis L'Amour and Max Brand, watching Bonanza, etc. Now I'm not saying those were experts in western genre, but there are some bits I thought needed to be pointed out.

One major concern I had was the Ms. Bridey's use of the term bunkhouse. Every time she used the word and included a bit of description of the bunkhouse, it sounds like she is describing it as a single inhabitant building on the ranch, when in fact a bunkhouse was for a group of men working on the ranch. It had bunk beds along the walls of the building and could house a dozen men or more; it was not a small cottage for only one person to live in.

Another concern was her use of zippers for ladies dresses. Zippers weren't in use prior to the 1900's and by the description in the books the stories are set in the 1860s and 70s by the fact she mentions there were no railroads in Montana at the time.

Third - money - I can understand her wanting to establish a character that is wealthy and very generous, but to people in the 1860s $50 or $20 could be up to a month's wages in some situations, so I don't know whether that would have be appropriate; but certainly cowboys placing $5 bets on something when that could be a week's wages is not likely.

I'm sure I am being overly critical of the backdrop of the series, and for the majority of readers who are reading it not to concern themselves with the historical accuracies enough to double check facts, but I had done beta work, and work as an editor in my job, so unfortunately that is something that is automatic for me.

I'm certainly not trying to say that the series is bad, and this is for the author only, which is why it is not on public review (I hope since I clicked the box), and is not the review I left on the other sites. As far as I know, authors do want honest opinions on their work in order to improve all the time, so I hope the author will see this in that light.

Superimposed modern characteristics on 19th century woman.

The only positive thing I can say is it was sweet and clean. Too sickly sweet to be honest. To my mind the author has endowed Jamie, the heroine , with modern day characteristics which would have condemned her by the standards of the time she writes about. She swears, drinks whisky, sings and plays poker in a saloon. She flirts with all the men and is honestly quite rude and selfish. She is a widow who has arrived as a mail order bride for shy ranch hand Luke. He accepts everything she does! (Even when she goes to the saloon with his best friend and gets drunk without his knowing). All Luke's cousins, who own the ranch and their wives see nothing wrong with her, even accepting they are sleeping together.
The only honest person in my mind was Marty, the ranch hand who found her behaviour inappropriate, yet he was shouted down by everyone and then drops out of the story!!! I disliked Jamie immensely. She verbally abused anyone who found behaviour inappropriate, even Luke's mother. Like had to virtually agree to let her be herself without change. Poor sap, he did not turn out to be a hero for me.

A touching listen with true emotions that really touch your heart. We met Luke before when his bride left him standing all alone brokenhearted and not understanding what just happen. His story really touched my heart I felt his pain and sorrow. This is his story and his race to find his happy ever after with one foot in his mouth and the other high tailing it to get his women back after a few misunderstandings. Both Luke and Jamie are broken souls both wanting a family and someone they can call their own. Jamie is a little on the wild side and not what you would call you normal lady but that is OK with Luke just not some family members. Things are looking up that is until she meets his parents and as we all know mothers-in-laws can be a hard pill to swallow. Things start going downhill as Luke finds his self in one mess after another.

The narrator does a wonderful job delivering true emotions to the story, you always know who is talking and just what that are feeling. There are no repeating of words, no background noise just a truly enjoyable listen that pulls you in. His normal voice is very pleasant as well as his character voices, his voice is easy to listen to and gave me many hours of enjoyment. He made me feel the pain and sorrow each character is going through as well as the excitement and danger that comes with this story. With his narration he made me understand why some people act the way they do and that not everything is as it seems. For me he bought this story to life making it easy to picture each scene as it was happening. His performance was top of the line pulling me in giving me a listen I couldn’t put down. If you haven’t listened to any of his audios you don’t know what you are missing.

Jamie isn’t well liked at all, women are jealous of her for many reasons. She isn’t looking for a love match she had a wonderful marriage she just wants someone who will take care of her, give her a family and be her friend but most of all to take her like she is. Luke is ready to try again but this time he isn’t looking for love he just wants a partner someone to have a family with. Both got more than they asked for and gave us the reader lots of laughs as well as a little sorrow.

I thought this was well written, the author gives you both sides making you feel both their pains as well as the turmoil that goes with it. The story is very entertaining and holds your attention. There is a little bit of everything from romance, broken hearts and danger. There are lots of laughs, a few giggles and a lot of love that went into this story. You get to see the past characters, they play a big role in this story. It was so nice to see them and see the changes they have made. I really liked how Jamie was a lady but more of a today lady who isn’t ashamed to tell it like it is and be herself. She puts on no airs and is very cute and loving. I was so glad to see Luke finds happiness. I thought it was a great story and had trouble putting it down. I can’t wait to read more of this series.

Luke Samuels wanted a wife but there just not any women that he was interested in marrying. He decided to place an advertisement for a mail order bride. Jamie Collins was not happy with her life. She was widow and had gotten mixed up with a bad crowd. Jamie answered Luke's advertisement and it was decided that they would meet to see of a they. were compatible. She did not tell Luke about the bad crowd she had been involved with. She traveled to Luke's family's ranch. It was love at first sight. Luke was smitten.

The bad crowd she had gambled with and drunk with found where she was. They were angry that she left her former home and not told them where she was going. They wanted revenge and were prepared to get the money she had won from them back by any means or kill her. She was badly injured and probably would have been killed if she had alone when she was attacked.

There is lots of action in this book. I enjoyed the book.

The Shy Cowboy & His Lively Widow

After Luke Samuels was left at the altar his love life was zilch. When he went to work on his cousin's ranch, his eyes were opened to what he wanted, a wife & family. With his cousin Marcus helping him write an ad for a mail order bride, he was optimistic. Jaime Collins was only married for a couple of years before her husband passed. She was so tired of being judged by other women based on her looks, youth & fun living attitude. She sees a way to change her life by becoming Luke's mail order bride. She only hopes people in a new town & his family will give her a chance. Luke's extended family can see how well they are a match. Jaime is able to bring Luke back to life & make him laugh. Luke's mother causes problems & it will be up to Luke to decide how they will overcome obstacles. Get ready for some fun hijinks by both Jaime & Luke.

Can't Judge A Book By The Cover

I am enjoying this series. The very first page of this book made me think the author doesn't have much concept of a mans size. If you say a guy is big yes 6 foot 3 inches is tall but 180 lbs does not make for a big man. At that tall he would look anorexic. And that isnt how I have pictured Seth so far in these books. Other than that it everything seems okay. This book itself is about Luke Samuels. He is a cousin to the rest of the boys. After being jilted at the alter he decides to take out an add for a mail order bride. Jamie is a flirty lady who is a widow. Having to on occasion use her looks to get things she is a breath of fresh air for Luke. Even if his mom doesn't like her.

Westward Destiny

The Mail Order Bride books give a completely different view of the settling of the western states. It certainly makes you understand not all the women who came West didn't necessarily come with a husband by wagon train. It's an interesting concept to explore & Author Bridey does a great job of helping you do so. She makes her characters believable with just enough levity to make you really like them. Her story's are great & interesting enough to make it hard to lay your book down; & in many instances when you do, you find yourself wondering "what's next?"

O enjoy her writing, I enjoy reading her work!

I enjoyed this one. It definitely isn’t as sweet as the ones prior though. Jamie has had a hard time and a hard life thus far. To so many she comes across as a loose woman when in reality she’s lively, fun and sings and plays poker to help get over all of her losses. She’s just looking for someone to love who will wholeheartedly love her back. She finds that in Luke. Luke had his own damage from being left at the altar. He’s a shy man but has so many wonderful qualities. He can’t believe that a woman like Jamie would want him. They have to work through some differences and danger but they’re going to get their HEA.

Jamie Collins is not your typical nice girl for any era. A 26-year-old widow she has way too much spunk to be considered nice by the more proper folk but her high spirited outlook on living life is a refreshing change from more staid female characters.

Jaime and Luke may be very different characters but for Luke the woman with mischievous green eyes, infectious grin, fun loving ways and flaming hair is the perfect one for him.

She lightens his somberness and he steadies her emotionally.

I listened to this book on Audible at an increased speed for my own preference.
Luke’s and Jamie’s story is touching. I can’t imagine being a mail order bride, but the author draws you in and doesn’t let go! I listened to this almost entirely in one sitting because I enjoyed the story so much! It had its twist and turns and made me want to know how it was all going to turn out. I felt the ending was a bit rushed and tied up neater than I would have left it, but that’s part of a “happily ever after” isn’t it?!?
I’m off it listen to the next in the series!

Mail order bride-westward destiny/L.bridey

Thoroughly enjoyed the story. It showed how two different people who are from different background meet up through add place in make order bride and overcome their emotional fear and is surprised how they can overcome them with love and tryst. Couldn't put the book down. You need to read from first series to understand the dynamic relationship of dean, seth, and Marcus , the three brothers and how their story came about you would not be disappointed.

Luke is Dean's cousin who now works at the family ranch. He longs to have someone to love and gets Marcus to write an ad for a mail-order bride. Jamie answers the ad with a letter to Luke telling him he wishes to meet him. She saves her money and a friend helps her get ticket for travel to Montana. When she arrives, Jamie is found to be outspoken and a fun person like Marcus. But Luke is quick to see that she could be the one for him. New characters include Luke's parents who are quick to judge Jamie. Lots more drama in this book as well as lots of family moments and announcements.

A beautiful clean story

This was a story about a beautiful woman and her struggles because of her beauty and fun loving life. A man who loved her for what she was and almost lost her. It was very well written and I enjoyed continuing reading about the lives of the people in the previous stories.

A light, fun, humorous, enjoyable and entertaining story.

This is the second book from the Mail Order Brides Montana series that I have listened to and I while I was not disappointed in this book, I did like book 3 a little more. Even though this is part of a series you don't have to have read the previous books to enjoy this one.

Even though these are shorter books they are not lacking in any way. Some shorter books leave you feeling like something is missing either in storyline or the characters relationship. That is not the case here. The characters and their stories are fully developed.
Although in one part of the story there was a whole section that at the end of every sentence was Jamie said, Luke said, Jamie said, Luke said, Jamie said, Luke said, It got a bit annoying and I thought okay time to change up the way their conversations are taking place.

Jamie is outspoken, flirty and sassy. Luke is quiet, shy and reserved. Jamie is not your typical western romance heroine. She takes a bit of time to get used to. Luke is lovable immediately like a big teddy bear. Somehow they find common ground and work well together as a couple.

J Scott Bennett did a fantastic job with the narration. Great character voices. Love the little western lilt to his character voices. Clear pronunciation and nice pleasant voice. Even smooth pace in his narration. Well done all around.

This novel deals with the cousin of the Samuels' brothers...and isn't quite as riveting as the stories about the three of them. Perhaps I wasn't as enamored of the lady who answered Luke's ad for a wife...she seemed a little wild to me...but I'm a little too straitlaced for some of these vixens. ;)

Needless to say, the story does take off on it's own and has all the elements fitting a mail-order bride and her facing of the unknown. The family ranch where Luke works welcomes Jamie and the dance begins. She is fleeing a narrow-minded town that only sees her as a floozy, and her two friends who know her kind heart. She has been a cook and housekeeper for a crotchety old man and couldn't wait to get away from him and all the memories attached to this North Dakota town.

Moving to Montana seemed like the right answer to her, and she liked what she saw when she met Luke. He was a huge man, and handsome to boot. Would they be compatible? Would he want her in his life? Would his family accept her??

There is intrigue, danger, excitement, and romance involved as this story plays out.

I liked this book. It was sweet and sexy, and it was refreshing to see a female character who is comfortable with who she is without conforming to society's expectations of her. The story perfectly sets up more books in the series. Though this is a fourth book in the series, I had not read any of the previous books in the series prior to reading this one. I didn't feel like I was missing out, but would guess that the stories center around the other characters who got a mail order bride, and it would be fun to read about their back stories. This was an enjoyable book, so I would like to read more about the other characters. I listened to the Audible audio version of this book, narrated by J. Scott Bennett, and as always, his narrations was excellent. If you like westerns or romance, this would be a great book for you.

The Montana Mail Order Brides books are enjoyable stories that are each complete without the feeling of being rushed through and entwine the characters into the other books within the series. As most romance books each couple has their ups and downs, inner battles, heartaches, happy times and end in a happy ending. It combines different cultures and the hardships and struggles that goes along with it. I found this to be a great mix in the story and was well done. Once I finish one book I quickly buy the next book as I want to see what will happen to another character. I recommend to read the book and series to anyone that likes romance.

Jamie, the main character of Mail Order Bride - Western Destiny, has a mind of her own. She isn't the typical heroine of these types of novels. After reading 2 other books in this series, I was looking forward to more. Linda Bridey is a great writer. The story was funny and kept me wanting more. I enjoyed getting to know Jamie and Luke. Even though they have 2 completely different personalities, I think they make a great couple.
Again, J. Scott Bennett did a wonderful performance. His voice is perfect for this book.

Westward Destiny is book 4 in the series. We re-visit the Samuels' family. This one features their cousin Luke. Jamie, the mail order bride that answers his advertisement is not like most girls that answers ads. She is strong willed, flirty and adventurous. She has hidden emotions that come out showing a vulnerable side too. Will love conquer all?

The narration was well done. The characters were well portrayed.

A Sweet Story..

Luke, the male lead, is a shy and quiet kind of guy.

Jamie, the female lead, is a bit more forward.

It seems as though it is love at first sight and a case of "opposites attract" when they meet, at least for Luke..

He might not have realized it at first, but that is what happened to him.

Overall, this book was a quick read enjoyable read.

J. Scott Bennett did well with the narration.
