Return to the sinister and sensual underworld of San Antonio in "Dying Forever", the third and final book in Heather McVea's urban fantasy collection, the "Waking Forever" series.
As a down-to-earth professor of American folklore, Alison Bailey teaches her students that legends are a function of cultural memory, based in collective fantasy and fear. Her reality is demolished in a single moment of terror, replaced with a world of shadows and horrors as she discovers the folklore she teaches is based in truth. Now she is forced to rediscover the world with Bryce Whelan, the alluring stranger who has a bigger secret than Alison could ever imagine. As their feelings for each other grow, so does the danger they must face together. Now Bryce and Alison must mend relationships and form new alliances to face a most formidable foe.
"Dying Forever" is the fourth installment in the "Waking Forever" series, featuring all of your favorite characters from the collection, including Sara, Rachel, Ash, Emma, and, of course, Coleen.

Heather McVea was raised in a small town south of San Antonio, Texas. Prior to escaping to the big city, she raised Hampshire pigs, rode motorcycles at entirely too young an age, and once snow boarded behind a Ford pickup truck. She relishes a strong gin and tonic, or a well-made old-fashioned (but never at the same time). Heather and her wife have three furbabies, and divide their time between Texas and Maryland.
I think this one is going to be my favorite. The storyline bring all the ladies together to battle the bad lady. I thought Ali and Bryce coming to the story was great and I did enjoy how their story line ended. And as for Rayven...she always cracked me up, but I didn't like where her storyline ended. Another great book. Definitely recommend this book.
I still don’t understand Bryce’s personality and why she acted the way she did when she met Alison. It was one of the hardest love stories to understand. It was rides with awkwardness that went unexplained. Perhaps it was supposed to be obvious?
I didn’t understand their courtship. And the bond didn’t feel like it did with Emma and Ash and not even close to Sara’s and Rachel. Even the love Coleen has for Emma is palpable. How Bryce gains get gift doesn’t make much sense. How she came to be in the Women’s House isn’t played out well. It almost feels as if Heather did not write this story.
Even their enemies aren’t explained very well. I think this could have been better. I am not sure if it was rushed or if these characters don’t speak to Heather in the same way the others had. I felt more for Ela than I did for these two MC. I liked Bryce on her own. She was sweet and it was hard to place her past with the socially and emotionally awkward being now. And speaking of that bond…the choice she made in the end was just plain silly.
I hope that last book in the series makes up for this. I have a love-hate relationship with Coleen. But I am attracted to her. 🥰
The third and (supposed) final installment in the Forever series was the most action packed. All the characters from the previous two books are back, although Rachel and Sara to a lesser extent. I enjoyed the main story between Bryce and Allison but the bigger story of how everything is interwoven was what made the book interesting for me. I don't want to say much more for fear of giving anything away! Even though Ms. McVea is calling this the final book in the series, there is definitely room for additions, especially where Colleen is concerned. Even another book revolving around the three main couples would be awesome.
The third installment of the series throw more twist and turns. I enjoyed that all the characters are related one way or another and they come up together to accomplished the same goal. Even though I wasn't a fan of Bryce, I liked how the story makes sense in explaining how she was the way she was. I loved the ending and the idea that most of the characters found their way to love in different ways. Wishing there were more books to the series.
love this series of books, each one gets better and better. great characters, great storyline, fast pace and wonderfully written. can't wait to read the next one!
Heather McVea did it again drawing the reader in. I love following the story of the characters and how their lives intertwine and the endings never disappoint. Looking forward to reading the next book!!!
