Introduces basic cooking equipment, ingredients, and skills, tells how to plan a meal, and gathers straightforward recipes for appetizers, salads, soup, pasta, main dishes, vegetables, and desserts
I received this cookbook as a gift from my grandma nearly a decade ago and I still use it all the time. It's timeless and useful. The author starts from the very basics (here's how you measure something, here's how you bake) and then builds up in a very readable, understandable way. I love her comments and tips in the margins.
The recipes gently progress from making tuna salad and easy mac and cheese to full meals and are grouped by cooking style first (roasting, etc.) and then meal part second (snacks, etc.). The best thing is that the recipes are really tasty, even from the very earliest sauteed chicken.
If you're still not convinced, you should pick up this book for the amazing "Brenda's Brownies" recipe.
The perfect book for beginners, as in those who know absolutely nothing. It has step by step procedures, and explains everything. The most useful recipes for me have been Tuna Salad, Hummus, Chocolate Cake, Brownies, and Macaroni and Cheese.
