Warning contains spoilers! Asher thought he was doing the right thing wiping her memory and keeping his distance. It's breaking his heart and with things coming to an end soon, harder is all it's going to get. She knows something. Her instincts are calling to him. But when all is said and done she will be alive and hopefully so will he. Addy has fallen into a world of monsters and fighting. She knows she is important to the end but doesn't know how and no one can help her. Except for her mentor. Asher. The arrogant, egotistical jerk! She can't help but be attracted to him though and even though he rebuffs her at every opportunity and portrays nothing but dislike for her, her stupid heart can't just leave him go. Why? She has no idea. But it needs to because her time to rise is coming. With the wraiths coming more forcefully trying to invade earth and their King now lose in reality, Addy has her hands full trying to learn her role in the upcoming fight and how exactly she is supposed to save human kind. When all she gets are clues and cryptic messages from Izan, the other worlder that is seriously getting on her last nerve, she is forced to trust her past, a past she doesn't remember. After asking Asher to wipe her memory so she could protect her family things have been made harder. But as things start to fall into place and many secrets are revealed what will the final outcome be for Addy and Asher, The Machine and Earth?
I really enjoyed this book. For me it started off a little slow and I wanted to throttle Asher my self a few times but as the story forged ahead I became glued to the pages and stayed awake until I had devoured it. I truly loved the twists and turns you were taken on and some of the secrets revealed weren't always good ones but it kept it interesting. The dynamic between Addy and Asher at first frustrated me to no end but to go through the motions when they finally ended up accepting the other was satisfying. I loved they got their sort of HEA. The background characters were brilliant and I loved Remy as much as Asher. The book ends on a good note but has been done to leave it open so many more books can follow it and I really hope the author does. I could read about Addy, Asher and their team all night. A really captivating book that I would highly recommend.
I received a copy in exchange for an honest review.
Oh what a read! Midnight Dawn by Jocelyn Adams was one emotionally charged, action packed, unmissable read that deserves multiple high fives!
This book could not be put down! For those that have read the first instalment of The Mortal Machine series, Darkside Sun, know the ending of the first book was an absolutely heart wrenching read and had readers waiting in anticipation for the second instalment of the series - which did not disappoint.
Asher and Addison pull so many heart strings and leave you absolutely emotionally spent all through this series and the mind blowing story was dazzlingly riveting. Packed with chemistry, emotional drama and unforgettable character challenges that engross the reader from the start of the book right through to the finish, with plentiful action, mystery and questionable character loyalties and many shocks and surprises that keep the reader enthralled.
Neither book in The Mortal Machine series was disappointing. Midnight Dawn by Jocelyn Adams was an absolute scintillating read that was some pure brilliant writing. *ARC Received from the Publisher for an honest review
Think The Mortal Instruments minus the incest and with a much more complex storyline. Adams brings a brand new world to the page, one that may have readers second guessing their beliefs. And while Addison may still be viewing everything through lust-filled eyes, she has finally decided to be the Architect she was always meant to be. Though a lot of her obsessive musings about a man who seemingly wants nothing to do with her, and does his best to drive him away at every turn, do distract from the story and will have readers wanting to slap the stupid out of her. In the end it will be explained why she has such an infatuation with him, and it goes even deeper than the brief relationship they had in Book 1, Darkside Sun.
Addison has no memories of her life before the Machine, which makes it that much easier for her to accept her role as the Architect. Sadly, not many others trust her enough to follow her lead. Trying to convince the other Guardians that she is there to help and rebuild the Machine will be an even bigger battle than facing the Wraith King. Especially after she has killed Marcus, and tells them what she believes each and every one of them to do, have physical contact with one another. After what happened with Taka's girlfriend decades ago, only a handful of people are willing to take that risk. The problem is if they do not the Mortal Machine will never reach its true potential, nor will they have enough power to defeat the wraiths and save humanity. Addison also must deal with the wholes in her memory. She knows that she asked Asher to erase her past in order to protect her father, but there are even more wholes than there should be. Memories from after she was already in the Machine, and echoes of those memories are haunting, and taunting her.
Asher has been plagued by what he believes to be premonitions of Addison's death. So he has convinced himself that taking away her memories of the two of them together, of the love they shared, and staying away from her, he can prevent it. What he fails to realize is the two of them together are much stronger than either of them are apart. And when the Wraith King continues to call Addison by the name of Adaline, teasing that the two of them have no clue who they truly are, will he realize those premonitions just may be echoes of his own memories.
Enter a strange new Guardian who comes in just the nick of time to save the day. One willing to go to any length to get Addison, and the Machine, whole and ready and at the apex of their potential. Only question is, why is he so determined? Why has he been exiled from the Machine all this time? More importantly, do they have yet another trader in their mists?
Midnight Dawn is one of those can't-put-down-until-I-finish type of book, the kind where you tell yourself, 'Just one last chapter...'. A true must read for PNR and Sci-Fi fans. There is romance, but not so much that it exceeds the entire plot. Just ignore some of her inner monologue.
Holy crap on a crack!!! Asher and his stupid nonsense, thinking he could wipe Addison's memories and just be ok. But it's ok, cuz Addison is smarter than him LOL. Asher's got the heartbreak down in this one. Addison is still learning, and she's learning well. She's becoming a masterpiece and Asher has to keep his distance. And then of course Addison starts figuring some things out for herself. And they both have to make it out of this mess alive with all the fighting and monsters, wraiths, and making sure the normal humans also live through it.
Heh, this one is just as hot as the first one, if not more, but the action picks up and the twists will blow your mind. Addison is finally figuring some things out, and along the way, she's gunna put a few changes in place. Except Asher, he's still a stupid jerk who won't help her. The wraiths are coming, and things are getting bleak, and they just need to work together for this one more time. And we're getting to know Izan, and the king of the wraiths, who both have way too many secrets. It totally makes things more mysterious.
The writing is amazing, and though I wanted to choke a few characters, it turned out ok. LOL I also love so many other characters that have become so meaningful to the story. I can't wait for so much more, and though this one isn't a major cliff hanger ending, there's a little opening that should let the author continue, and I have ever intention of stealing book three when it comes out! :) 5 PAWS!
This concept was exciting and new to me. The main plot of the story has Addy and Asher in a constant battle of whits. When Addy decides shes had enough of Asher's condescending ways a new revelation is brought forth. The supporting characters bring a wonderful undertone to an already hypnotic adventure.
I have to say that I am more invested into the story than I originally thought I would be. The cast of characters are appealing and I wait anxiously for Addy and Asher to finally get their acts together to merge their storms and see what they can accomplish together. With that said, I will say the author creates a world within worlds and it's hard not to want to experience the final outcome.
This book is part of a trilogy written along a continuous plot line. It is strongly suggested by this reviewer that the books of this series be enjoyed as ordered parts of said series. Please purchase all three books before attempting to read this one. Review in progress.
Okay so I couldn't wait to get my hands on this book after reading the 1st book and this book didn't disappoint. This story picks up where the last one left off and it is amazing because the storyline that Jocelyn created is one you can't help but get lost in. It's new and interesting and just sucks you in from the very beginning. Our main characters are Asher and Addison and the war that is about the happen (again) with the Wraith King. So much information is given to you in this book that you keep guessing at what the ending is going to be and it takes almost the entire book to figure out what is going to happen and then you have the O.M.G factor. So Asher and Addison are our main characters and these two have a lot of......background together, it's just Addison can't remember it. I don't hate Asher's character in this book as much as I did in the first, but he still annoys me and I hate that he made Addison forget things in order to "protect" her. I love the way Addison's character has evolved in this book compared to the first one and how she is learning to come into her own. Of course the rest of the society she is apart of are still a little weary and scared of her because she is different and change is always hard. But she is slowly showing them a way to help rid the world and humans of wraiths.
Addison is also looking for her counter part/soul mate. When you find that one person who makes you stronger you pretty much mate for life. Everyone in the machine should have one. Remy ends up helping Addison a lot because no one wants to really help her including Asher. And even though Asher is mean again in this book to Addison her soul can't help but long for him. When the wraith King makes and appearance everything begins to change. They only have so long before hell takes over earth and the Machine crumbles. Asher has to work with Addison and a new character comes in, saying that he is destined to be with her, she is his counter part. He is this new what Addison has been looking and waiting for? Or can her heart and soul truly remember what really happened and who her heart already belongs to, even though she can't remember. Will Addison find a way to stop the wraith King?
All of these questions get answered in this book, however, a lot more form and the end of this book has me in a very tearful emotional state because it didn't end like I thought it might. I can't wait for the next book to see what will happen in Addison's world. But this book is definitely worth reading.
After some torturous months of waiting, I got to finally read this second book of Mortal machine Trilogy and I am quite satisfied with the outcome. In the beginning we get to see Addy as a newly minted Architect of the machine. Asher on the other hand came back to his usual hard to reach self and this makes it difficult for the two especially her when she thinks there is something more between them but after her memory was swiped by him, she is being haunted by dreams of an older man she thinks is her father and a younger one who might be her boyfriend.
The story quickly picked up its pace almost right after it left us in the first book and we got to meet new characters like Raldad who at first showed hesitation with Addy's capabilities as a leader and Iris whose uniqueness will shine in some parts of the book. It was totally action packed and a rollercoaster ride all throughout. At many parts I waited for Asher to finally just forget about his worries of what might happen and take that chance with Addy. And adorable reluctant couple Remy and Sophia is still cute and helpful as always to our idols.
I am hoping to see them again in the next book as they are my top two couple here.I also can't help but be in awe with the strength of Addy's brain and her dad for braving and coming out of a long unimaginable suffering of not being able to remember each other. I so heart Jocelyn for this truly remarkable story and after reading the first of the trilogy I became an instant fan and now I got to read Midnight Dawn, it's just amazing.
The plot, the people, sequencing, lines and paragraphs are just downright awesome.Love the ending but again just how I felt in the first book, I am now in suspense of what terror this group of warriors will face in the next one not to mention there is sort of a cliffhanger within Addison's soul that she will have to face the next time. But right now I just want to feel it for a while and worry about the ultimate ending next time. Congratulations to our author for coming up with a set of beautiful characters and overall story. It's all good!
I couldn't breathe at times (or set the book down) from the first page until the last page. This is the perfect example of a five-star read in the new adult genre. Was the book perfect? No, very few are, but the negatives got buried beneath the non-stop action and constant tension. The story begins three weeks after Darkside Sun (book one in the series) ends. Readers could pick up this book and follow the story, but much of the tension that exists because of what happened at the end of the first book would be lost. It's one of the things that kept me turning pages. When would Addison figure things out? That's what my mind wanted to know. I mentioned in my review of the first book that I was disappointed that the romantic aspect was solved in an unfair (to my mind) manner. All that is reversed in this book. But wait, it doesn't solve all the issues. In fact, it gives the enemy a bargaining chip, just as Asher feared when he made his high-handed decision in the first place. I love being inside Addison's head. She is so authentic. She started down a dark path in this book, but her motivation was clear. I don't believe in spoilers. The solution to her biggest question is neither easy nor expected. It leaves the reader wanting to know how the author will get her out of such a predicament. My only real complaints about this book: 1)I feel like the profanity (which is mostly mild) isn't necessary. It cheapens Addison's intelligence - and she is a smart girl. 2)I wish the romance could be based on more than just the physical attraction. Some depth is hinted at when it talks about "sharing their storm" but it still seems like a relationship spurred by sexuality (which sells books but doesn't give the best message to young women who read it). I'm not a fan of urban fantasy or dark paranormal stories. This book is both, and I could not put it down. Seriously, I stayed up late because I had to finish it. I didn't play Candy Crush because I wanted to know what happened in the book. Thank you, Jocelyn Adams, for the cardio workout. My heart nearly flew out of my chest on multiple occasions.
After the heart wrenching turn of events at the end of Darkside Sun, Midnight Dawn picks up with Asher hiding his heartbreak and Addison trying to piece together the memories she is missing, whilst finding her feet in her newly discovered position in the Machine.
Book 1 set the wheels in motion, book 2 sees everything start to come together...or fall apart. Addy is faced with fighting The Wraith King, and to do so she needs to unlock the Mortal Machine: to do so the guardians need to find their conduits--those they share powers with. And whilst Addy can see who should pair with whom, getting them to do so is no easy task, particularly when she herself needs to find her Shepherd.
"My happiness was not tied to Asher."
From the opening chapter we really start to see how Addy is growing as a character; as determined as ever, she's developed a strong will and sassy attitude to help her lead, but she is also struggling in many respects. She's still drawn to Asher but, with him keeping her at arms length, she becomes close to British newcomer Caine, unaware that Asher isn't being difficult with her for the sake of it; he is suffering, hurting and is as tortured and frustrating, grouchy and brooding as ever. There were moments when I wanted to shake him, and those I hurt for him.
Jocelyn Adams has brought her reader a fast-paced, action-packed and emotional second instalment to her Mortal Machine series that keeps you captivated throughout. There were moments when my heart was in my throat and I can't wait to see how the trilogy is concluded in Forever Dusk.

After that heartbreaking ending to Darkside Sun, I was so excited to read Midnight Dawn and it did not disappoint. I loved it, but at the same time I was so frustrated by Asher. It's obvious that what he did was wrong and that they're meant to be together so I really wanted to scream at him. Addison doesn't know why she feels such attraction to Asher (although we do), and it was definitely different to read a book where the main character doesn't know anything and we know everything. To be honest, I was a little confused with how much Addison remembered since it's been awhile since I read Darkside Sun. Does she only have three weeks worth of memories? How does that work? She still has to have basic knowledge about the world, how to do things, etc. That could have been made more clear.
Jocelyn Adams writes such amazing characters. Addison is strong, funny, and feisty and Asher is the strong silent type, although he purposefully acts like a jerk to Addison to keep her away. Great secondary characters as well.
There's plenty of action as the group deals with a new villain (or is he?) and I liked the way the author made it unclear who the Sentinels should trust. The wraith king seems to be telling them the truth and Izan, their leader, is definitely keeping things from them. Things are not black and white and there are many twists and turns to the plot as secrets come out. And the ending completely surprised me, I was not expecting that at all.
If you haven't read this series, I highly recommend it.
Oh my I have got to say even though this is the second book in this series it still was quite easy to get into and follow plus this is the first time reading anything from this author for me. I say oh my because this contains quite a unusual storyline that as soon as you begin it you are so intrigued with the idea of it all. The characters are larger than life with the color needed for this story with a world and war going on that the average joe has no idea. That is what and why I like it the plausible reality of such of thing being true but unfolding in this novel. Even though there are a abundance of characters the ones I gravitated toward where Asher and Addison. Humans making up the parts of a machine in a most logical way as explained in this novel. So like that it is not turned into bizarre to where it would of be more sci-fy. Most of all is the romance this novel will contain that is gravitated toward and explodes once it is realized. It is a very important factor also because it will be a key factor in it for Addison to be with the one she loves in order to be the success she needs to be to properly put wrongs to rights with a war looming upon them all. The events and drama this author writes are so well written that you are panting while reading so you can get to what is next. Choices are they key here for all really that the wrong ones could cost alot. Thrilling simply thrilling is all I can say without giving too much away and I for one hate spoilers. Just a side note though sometimes you do find that if they both were standing before you knocking their heads together might be the order of the day that is how frustrating (in a good way) these two could get. Received a arc for a honest review.
Her soul remembers his touch, even if she doesn't.
With only three days until the wraith king turns the earth into an all-you-can-eat buffet, Addison Beckett is forced to enlist brooding sentinel Asher Green's help to unlock the Mortal Machine. According to the founder, all she has to do is find the sanctuary-the same sanctuary she can't remember because Asher erased her memories.
Trying to save humanity while navigating Asher's lies is a royal pain. But the more time she and Asher spend together, the harder her soul tries to remind her what else he's made her forget-that he loves her, wants her, needs her.
When she's trapped by the wraith king and forced to pick who will stand by her in the coming battle, Addison is faced with an impossible choice: the sentinel she loves who refuses to love her back, or a powerful stranger who insists they're meant to be together. Her decision will determine the fate of humanity, and once decided, can't be undone.
Midnight Dawn by Jocelyn Adams was a book that i was unable to put down once I started to read it. This book is jam packed full of action and if you like lot of action in your book this is a must read for you. This is the second book in the series and I love every turn of the page and I am looking forward finding out what happens in the next book.
well worth the five stars shame I could not give it more.
A copy was provided by the Netgalley for an honest review.
Addy and Asher have this amazing bond that goes beyond all conscious thought down to their souls. Darkside Sun ended with Asher breaking readers’ hearts and taking memories from Addy. Midnight Dawn follows the two on their quest to save the world while trying to conqueror the intense draw they have to each other. Addy wants Asher to be her conduit, Asher wants to keep Addy away from him. Together they learn that emotions and the bonds of love are a weapon far more advanced than anything the wraiths and their king can throw at them.
As much as I liked Asher in Darkside Sun, I fell in love with Asher in Midnight Dawn. Asher’s suffering was so emotional yet frustrating. I wanted to stomp on his foot as often as I wanted to hug him (and maybe a little more than hug).
There are so many great secondary characters that add depth to this intricate world Jocelyn Adams created. I so want to read Sophia and Remy’s story. I was as emotionally attached to them as I was to Addy and Asher. I feel there is so much more to the Mortal Machine that I want to explorer, I am hoping for more books to continue this series.
Addison Beckett is trying to save the world. She just wish she knew how to do it. She needs her sentinel Asher's help but when he's around she's distracted by her desire for him. Things couldn't get worse or could they? Baku, a powerful enemy, has appeared to fight Addy and take her power. When a new ally appears, she takes hope. Caine Phillips knows the past history of the Machine but can he be trusted? Midnight Dawn is a fast-paced roller coaster ride filled with so many twists and turns. Addison is a very complex character. She pulled me into her world and wouldn't let me go. She is such a mixture of strength and fear. Asher is a great hero. He cares deeply for her, but keeps his distance. The other sentinels are just as addictive. They each have secrets and fears that they must deal with. I enjoyed Midnight Dawn. I can't wait for the next installment in the series (A Mortal Machine). Jocelyn Adams has a wonderfully addictive writing style.
Addison is the Architect in charge of a group of sentinels who protect humanity. The wraith king is threatening to take her and change everything in the world by doing so. She is given cryptic messages on how she can stop that from happening, but not having her memories holds her back from true understanding. Asher wiped her memories after the last battle that almost killed her. She is in love with him, but is haunted by dreams of another faceless man that she just can't remember. She and Asher begin to prepare the sentinels for a huge battle that could mean the end of everything.
Midnight Dawn is full of action with a bit of romance mixed in to make just the right combination for a thrilling story. I couldn't put it down and had to read it in one night to find out what was going to happen both in the battle and between Asher and Addison.
I was given this book in exchange for an honest review.
Wow! Loved this story. The characters were great, storyline was action packed and unique, and the secondary characters add a lot to the story. This is the second book in the series but it can be read as a stand alone. Though if you do read this first you will be going back to read the first just to enjoy more of the story. Can't wait to read the third book.
I LOVE THIS SERIES! I did not find out about it until book 3 came out, so I read the whole series in one weekend because I couldn't put it down. There is info overload in this series, so it is absolutely one you have to read in order, and in some parts reread because the author builds an entire world and it can be a lot to take in.
Midnight Dawn continues right where Darkside Sun ended. Addision is confused, and trying to figure her life out. This time for different reasons. This time because Asher has wiped her memory clean. This is the part I hated for Addison. She's so drawn to Asher, without knowing why, and he's a total dick. All she can do is continue moving forward, trying to figure out how to prepare for a war when few are willing to help her.
In this book we start to learn more about the Wraith King. It adds so many more layer to the story.
This is probably one of the hardest series to review as I don't want to give anything away! I loved watching Asher and Addison try and find their way in the Machine, and together after everything that has happened. Even if this isn't a series you would normally read, give it a chance. I'm so glad I did.
I had a really hard time with this one. I love the concept of the different dimensions and the alien bug-like creatures trying to invade ours. But...it just seems to have gotten a little too big for itself. I can tell the book is trying to ramp the plot line for an epic conclusion, but along the way, it just falls a little flat. It seems like the story is constantly trying to out-do itself over and over again.
Eventually, I started to fall into the story a little, but I couldn't really start to like some of the characters again. Their actions are selfish and manipulative, even though the book claims they are being altruistic and self-sacrificing. I just couldn't buy it. They didn't seem genuine.
It's too bad that it took this turn because the world was quite interesting. I don't know that I'll be finishing this series.
Midnight Dawn picks up a bit after Darkside Sun ends. I didn’t love this installment as much as I enjoyed the first one but it definitely wasn’t bad. There were a lot of events going on which kept me reading. This novel incorporates more of the wraiths as well as Addison’s role as the Architect. We finally find out exactly what that means. The pacing was good in this novel. It wasn’t slow and it wasn’t so fast that it was hard to keep up with. I think, really, the only thing keeping me from loving this novel as much as the first one was the character romance. The great thing about this installment is that there was absolutely no cliffhanger. Even though there will be a third novel, there’s no gut-wrenching ending that deters some readers. So you can definitely go on and read this one without waiting for the next to come out.
Leading Lady
Addison is definitely tougher in this novel. When this novel begins, Addison’s memories of her and Asher are complete wiped and she is now actively part of the Mortal Machine. I liked Addison’s character a lot in this novel. We really got to see her fight for herself as well as for those that she cared for. She dealt with the things that were thrown at her very well, including the situation with Asher. I liked her character more in this novel than the last and I hope that that trend continues in the third book.
Leading Male
Asher, on the other hand, I didn’t quite like as much as I did in the first novel. This is mainly because of the way that he treated Addison for the majority of the novel. I understood that he was trying to protect her but I personally think that he could have done it in a better way. He was borderline verbally-abusive in my opinion and I hated it. Other than that, he was still the complicated, slightly egotistical jerk that he was in the first book. Just slightly less likable than the first time around.
Romance
We get a few flutterings of a love triangle in this novel. We are introduced to a new character who stirs things up a bit. Then you have the fact that Asher took away Addison’s memory of them together. However, Addison’s soul can’t help but be attracted to Asher so that creates problems, what with Asher pushing her away. It was a total drama filled romance but you still couldn’t help but root for Addy and Asher.
World Building
The thing I enjoyed the most about this installment was the back-story that we get on the Machine, the Wraiths, and everything else. It really gave the novel a realistic feel even with the paranormal plot. The story was obviously well thought out and I couldn’t find any wholes whilst reading the novel. It was some of the best and most interesting world building I’ve read.
Conclusion
Although I didn’t enjoy it as much as the first installment, Midnight Dawn was a far cry from bad. With complex world building and an engaging plot, it’s definitely one that I would recommend for any and all paranormal lovers, or for for anyone looking for something a little different.
Book Summary Published by - Entangled Publishing, LLC Release Date - 4th August 2014 Pages - 380 Pages My Rating - 3 Stars
Review I'm so torn!!! I want to love this book, there are so many reason TO love this book, but on the same hand there are so many problems with the background to the story and to parts of the story itself that it's hard to. Firstly, the characters...LOVE the characters. They're funny, endearing, real and take you on such a rollercoaster ride that at times all you can do is hold on and hope for the best. But then there's the actual story...You know those ideas you have that you think, OMG that would make an epic story if only someone could hammer it out so it's perfect. This is one of those books. It could have been so much more than it was. It should have been epic, the idea and concept was amazing, the worlds should have been fascinating. Too bad the reality missed the mark. When I picked this up to read I actually had to go and scout and see if there was a book that came before it. There are so many things that are just dumped on you that the author seems to expect you to understand, and when she has explained things it's in such a way that you just end up scratching your head before shrugging and continuing on in the hope that so much will be explained better later on. It isn't. There are a lot of predictible moments, none of which I'll spoil for you now, but let me just say that if you think that things are going to happen a certain way, then don't be surprised when they happen exactly that way. That was unfortunate as I was still struggling with the actual world (or should I say worlds) and all the mumbo jumbo jargon that goes along with it. My other issue was the names of things. "The Machine" was so cliche, so were the "Wraiths" and "Sentinals" and "Guardians". If you're writing something with a premise as amazing as the concept of this book, then you'd want to rename all of these things something amazing. Something fantastical that people have never heard of before, but it was like the author was told or decided to change it all for the mainstream. I so badly wished that it had all be original. That could have been the difference for me between giving this book three stars or five. This story was so, so close, but unfortunately there was simply no cake. Jocelyn Adams
I really liked book 1 in this trilogy and those who have read it will know it ended with a sucker punch to the gut for those who had been "shipping" Addison and Asher. Like I had been. How book one ended made me want to cry for them both, and things between them for a good portion of this book are as fraught with heartache as you can imagine.
Luckily, that level of hurt, of push and pull was just what I was in the mood for when I embarked on reading Midnight Dawn otherwise this review might have been very different. There is a lot of angst, but on the otherside of that coin, when they finally get their shit together, the feels are awesome! So just read, relax and enjoy on the relationship front.
As for the rest of the story, there is non-stop action throughout this book. A lot of questions have been answered and a lot of the plot threads tied up. While I really enjoyed the book, I can't help but feel that too many loose ends have been tied up and not enough new ones created to feel truly excited about book 3.
I'd recommend for younger New Adult fans looking for something different / something with a paranormal twist but it isn't the kind of book that stands alone, so you'd need to read book 1 first.
I really enjoyed this book. What a great addition to the series! Lots of action, and a new hero to swoon over, as well as an old one to scream at and want to slap. (while you wait, crying for him to come to his senses.)
This book has everything a book two should have. Building on all the old characters, introducing more, and really deepening the story.
My only quip is that there was a little too much "Preparation" for me leading up to the "boss battle". I guess it is that I'm an action junkie, but I would rather have had all that glossed over, but I do see how the story deepened the way it was written... I just think it slowed at a spot where it should have been ramping up at high speed.
But the hot dang does it take off again for a final round of bam and pow! Wahoo!
So, yeah, there was a little slow spot that a lot of people will enjoy to relax and take a breath before the big ending scene, but that kind of breather is not for me. Everything else was spot on, and I loved it.
This is the second book in the Mortal Machines series and it's another "more than five star" rating for this very satisfied reader. What a ride! The writing skill of this author is amazing. This book played like a movie in my head as Soldiers became Sentinels and bonds were formed. A family was formed. Beautiful! Asher and Addison fought so hard. It all came down to the last minute.
Brilliant storytelling! A sci-fi paranormal romance like no other. I am so excited to read the next book, Forever Dusk.
Received a copy via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. I was not compensated for my review. I was not required to write a positive review. The opinion expressed is my own.
This is an action-packed fantasy novel that combines great writing with excellent characters. Adams presents a world for Addison and company that seems plausible enough to scare you into wondering what would happen if it were true. Even though I didn't read the first one, I didn't feel like I had missed too much. All my questions were eventually answered, and the ending was neatly done. Not everything was perfect, but everyone's fate was included before the final page.
Asher and Addison are back and dealing with everything they have to deal with. It had humor, tension and fun and a whole lot of likeable characters and definitely filled with a lot of action and set in a unique world, you actually like. Some of the supporting characters though and there are a few your not to sure what to make of them. You just want to see if the way the story ends, once you start and you won't be disappointed. So if you get a chance, check it out.
Man, I read this almost 2 years ago, and I don't remember much except that I loved it! Gotta reread before I can read the 3rd book, which is FINALLY out!!!! YAY!
