A fraught romance between a witch and her knight, from the creator of Midnight Secretary !
Kaoruko Mochizuki runs an herb shop in a small seaside town. One day, a mysterious man dressed in black named Kaname Hibiki enters her shop and reveals that Kaoruko is actually a witch . And what’s more, Kaoruko needs Kaname to help control her awakening power!
When it becomes known that Kaoruko has received the power of the Witch Queen, she and Kaname are ordered to appear before the coven of the Black Witches. There, Kaoruko discovers that she must become a Black Witch in order to control her rampaging powers. But that means she will be offered up to an incubus—who presents himself as Kaname as he closes in on her!
This series is boring. The main female character lacks substance and personality. The relationship she has with the main male character feels slightly toxic. And the sex scenes are very boring.
My favorite volume I've read so far! Kaoruko and Kaname are so adorable together. I love them! Their love is so true and wonderful.
Re-read thoughts: This volume definitely gets into the smutty goodness that we all came for (including our leads). Kaname continues to be a sensual beefcake stud muffin, and I'm so glad that we have him to bless our eyes.
Normalde böyle kısa serilerde tamamlanmış olanları tercih ederim ama buna başlarken hiçbir şeye bakmadım 🙈 Bu cildin son chapter’ı eksik onunla beraber kalan iki cilt çevrilidiğinde seriye dönerim.
Today's post is on Spell of Desire, Vol. 3 by Tomu Ohmi. It is 192 pages long and is published by Shojo Beat. The has Kaotuko and Kanam on it in an embrace. As it is the third in the series, you need to have read the first two volumes to understand the story. The intended reader is someone who likes josei, urban fantasy manga. There is no foul language, mild sexuality, no violence. The story is told from third person close mostly following Kaoruko. There be Spoilers Ahead. From the back of the manga- When it becomes known that Kaoruko has received the power of the Witch Queen, the Black Witxhes Coven commands Kaoruko to become a Black Witch in to control her rampaging powers. But that means an incubus will take her! Will Kaname be able to help Kaoruko and placate the coven?
Review- This volume is more focused on the relationship between Kaoruko and Kaname. To be a real Black Witch, Kaoruko can't be a virgin but she doesn't want an incubus for her first time and neither does Kaname. So Kaname does what they both want and he goes to her. So now they are lovers and that causes backlash for both. Also Kaoruko thinks like a White Witch and that makes the Black Witches very uncomfortable with her. But she is a natural with magic, so she learns how to act like a Black Witch, even if she still thinks like a White one. More drama has been hinted at and I look forward to seeing it.
I give this volume a Four out of Five stars. I get nothing for my review and I bought this manga with my own money.
Gorgeous art and bonkers tropes. It’s fun, but it’s also absolutely ridiculous. We start off this volume with a literal “fuck or die” situation which forces the hero to confess his love. Our main couple is in love and so they’re cool with banging each other but the trope kinda borders dubcon so YMMV.
Theres a lot of make out and sex scenes here, and although this volume is rated M, there’s nothing steamy depicted: just kissing, holding, and the occasional female nipple.
I did enjoy the heroine finally starting to get some agency of her own and embrace learning magic, so I’m looking forward to seeing if she becomes a badass witch in later volumes. Fingers crossed.
Anyway, this was a tropey mess, but it was beautiful and fun so…🤷🏼♀️
The middle volume of this series cranks up the sex appeal as our young witch must lose her virginity to become a full-fledged black witch. As she learns about her power and magic in general, she's overcome with insecurities about her abilities, feelings, and romance. Written as a serial means her emotional insecurities are relived over and over again in a repetitive, painful pace. Visually, her entering the coven gives her usually dowdy look, a lacey, black upgrade. The romance takes a spicier plunge, but it only adds to this good, quick read.
Power with a Price Kaoruko’s newfound Witch Queen abilities come with dangerous strings attached, forcing her to face the terrifying demands of the Black Witches Coven.
A Dark Initiation To control her chaotic powers, Kaoruko must confront the haunting prospect of becoming a Black Witch, a choice that tests her courage, identity, and morality.
Deception and Desire When an incubus takes Kaname’s form, Kaoruko’s trust and heart are put to the ultimate test, blending high-stakes danger with intense, electrifying tension.
I went through this volume within 2 hours, there was defenitly more romance and *spice* in this one. Said spice not being very spicy, only the occasional woman nipple being shown, but the characters defenitly getting more comfortable with each other, romantically and intimately. The writer/illustrator's 'in-between-chapter' pages are ridiculously funny, I find myself laughing out loud and enjoying the writer's little notes.

I like to read three books in a series before I decide that I like it or not. The series was alright, the magick system was interesting but the genre josei is not my style. I have now realize why I do not read this kind of books. Sex scenes are not for me. I am dropping this series after just three book. The books I have read I am two and half stars.

2.5 rounded up? Ugh, I don't know... I like the concept of the storyline, but the sprinkling-in of sexual harassment is sooo problematic and NOT how our main character should be discovering her sexuality. I'm gonna finish this series just because it's only 5 volumes, but still...ehhhhhhhhhhhhh... I'm uncomfortable.
Meh. I know the trope of magic and sex being connected is old as can be, but I find it a bit irritating in how the trope is used here. It’s boring instead of exciting. But I’ll carry on with the last two volumes.
Aww their relationship becomes solidified and god, I just love them together. Kaname is so sweet to Kaoruka… And her wanting to be a black witch to protect him this time… it’s too much for my heart!! And yes, lots of smutty moments as well so I’m satisfied LOL
Cheesy, somewhat nonsensical, yet steamy and romantic. A guilty pleasure series for sure. Definitely recommend to people who like quiet heroines and brooding “touch-her-and-you’re-dead” male love interests.
