Argh..diese abenteurlichen Folgen in denen die Jungs die armen Indianer von den bösen weissen Männer retten müssen, die sind so übertrieben und mag ich gar nicht.

This was a strong Three Investigators novel that took a step up in maturity level. This was the first one I remember with machine guns and gunfights, at least on this level. There's also a plane crash, murder, kidnapping and more.

I still haven't quite adjusted to the idea of Bob as a chick magnet, but other than that most of the story and characters seem to follow a natural progression as the characters get older. The basic plot of this one involves some toxic waste being dumped on an Indian Reservation illegally, and the villains are probably the most dangerous the Investigators have encountered. Plenty of action and a little more suspense than usual, this was very entertaining.

2,5 stars, rounded up for now. There are far worse entries in the series, but this isn't much of a standout. Another "the boys are catching crooks" one, that the German cover just.... spoils the entire reveal of what's going on. I wish I hadn't scrolled down on the book's page.

The bad guys also not harming a single hair on the protagonists' heads, even though they KILLED two other people in cold blood in the previous weeks, is as convenient and juvenile as it gets. You have to think they're dangerous, but they only ever do bad things offpage, to characters that exist just to be killed off. I never really believed the boys were in much of a danger.

The Crimebusters series REALLY doubles down on the fatphobia, huh? Poor Jupiter can't lift a finger without his weight getting mentioned in all the CB books I've read so far. Classy. At least this one wasn't aaaall about girls and cars, though Bob being some kind of casanova figure gets mentioned extensively.

Wirklich ein schönes drei Fragezeichen Abenteuer.
Die drei Detektive sind auf dem Weg mit Bobs Vater einen Interviewpartner von diesem zu treffen. Wieso genau möchte der Vater aber nicht preisgeben. Unterwegs sind sie mit einer Chestner. Doch als diese abstürzt finden sie sich mitten in einem Wald wieder.
Ihnen ist nichts passiert, aber bei der Suche nach Hilfe verschwindet plötzlich der Vater.
So machen sich Justus, Peter und Bob auf und stoßen dabei nicht nur auf einen Indianerstamm, sondern auch auf ein Geheimnis innerhalb des Tals.

Ich bin einfach Fan von Abenteuer. Wenn ein Flugzeug abstürzt und es einen "Survival" - Moment gibt. Zudem ist die Geschichte gut aufgebaut und immer spannend gehalten. Klar am Ende löst sie sich wie häufiger schnell auf, aber dieses Mal sind auch die Gegner etwas brutaler als sonst. Also: Empfehlung!

Those "filler episodes" work (sorta) on expensive tv series to give us (and the budget) a break, but you don't need them in a book world. This is a slow, plodding story that goes in literal circles with the guys. There is very little mystery here, and the author treats the natives like one would expect from the time, and the guys (and we the audience) have to blow off nonchalantly the mass murdering background to the story. It has one of those quaint '80s "tag, bad guys, you have to freeze while we magically get you to prison" endings, like from Scarecrow and Mrs. King or Remington Steele. Ah, those were the days, when even outnumbering bad guys would just give up when you asked them to. Good times (but not much story or fun or suspense here).

Also per se war der Fall ja spannend. Nur leider hat er so gar nicht zu den drei Fragezeichen gepasst. Maschinengewehre, Mord, usw. war irgendwie nicht so wirklich passend. Mir fehlte zudem die detektivische Arbeit. Und ich muss sagen, ich mag die Fälle nicht, wo Peter kämpft. Es passt für mich einfach nicht, dass er plötzlich zum Karatekämpfer mutiert und dann Bob auch noch… Der Fall hätte tatsächlich Potential gehabt, hat mich aber dann zu sehr and einen Actionfilm erinnert und nicht an einen detektivischen Fall.

One of my all time favorite cases - although a good deal more grim than most of the others. Lot‘s of great character moments and a gripping mixture between western, survival and thriller.

• Die drei Detektive fliegen mit Mr. Andrews nach Diamond Lake – über der Sierra Nevada fällt der Motor aus, sie stürzen ab, und kurz nach der Bruchlandung verschwindet Bobs Vater.
• Sie treffen den Indianerjungen Daniel Grayleaf; parallel werden im Dorf immer mehr Menschen krank, und Daniels rätselhafte Botschaft („… am richtigen Ort, aber ohne Segen …“) hängt wie ein Hinweis in der Luft.
• Auf der Flucht vor bewaffneten Verfolgern geraten sie ins „verbotene Tal der Ahnen“ – dort finden sie ein Skelett (inkl. Einschuss) und auffällige Verschmutzung/Schäumung am Wasser.
• In Höhlen stoßen sie auf Hunderte Fässer (u. a. PCB, Laugen, Schlämme): eine illegale Giftmüll-Deponie, die das Tal vergiftet; die Krankheit im Dorf hat eine handfeste Ursache.
• Auflösung: Oliver Nancarrow betreibt das Giftmüllgeschäft mit Helfern (Biff/George) und verdient damit massiv; um die Sache zu decken, wurde die Cessna präpariert und per Fernzündung zum Absturz gebracht, und Mr. Andrews wurde im Wohnmobil gefangen gehalten. Mit dem Beweis (Gürtelschnalle/ermordeter Verwandter) kippt der Headman, entreißt Nancarrow die Waffe, die ??? überwältigen die Bande – Nancarrow & Co. gehen zur Polizei, der interne Dorf-Helfer Ike Ladysmith wird „tribal“ zur Verantwortung gezogen.

Einige wenige Szenen in dieser Geschichte haben mich zum Lachen gebracht,weil sie seltsam oder over the top waren (mir fällt noch Peter ein, der aus Freude Bob wieder zu sehen, sich direkt auf ihn schmeißt) aber allgemein fand ich das Buch eher langweilig. Ich bin eh nicht so der Fan davon, wenn die Drei die weißen Helden spielen und mal wieder irgendwelche Total verklärt beschriebenen ureinwohner retten. Und langsam bin ich echt nur noch genervt davon wie doof Bob beschrieben wird, nicht nur als Frauenheld (ja, wirklich, jedes Mädchen kann die Augen nicht von ihm lassen.....), sondern auch total arrogant.

PLOT OR PREMISE:
This book marks the third in the Crimebusters series, with the Three Investigators in a plane crash with Bob's father.

WHAT I LIKED:
After the plane crash, they are forced to "rough it", with standard adventure fare. The mystery is classic Three Investigators, and Stone is beginning to somewhat settle into the characters.

WHAT I DIDN'T LIKE:
The adventure side degrades into dealing with polluters with M-16 rifles and there is a "fight" scene that again is very far removed from the Three Investigators world.

Buku favorit (tapi ga dikasih 5 bintang aja, haha). Karena bukunya tipis alhasil selalu dibawa kemana-mana. Ngga bosen walau dibaca berulang.

Isinya tentang petualangan Trio Detektif di bumi antah berantah karena pendaratan darurat yang mereka lakukan. Selain memikirkan how to survive dengan bekal makanan terbatas serta dinginnya malam di hutan, ternyata mereka juga diincar orang-orang berpistol! Bertemu suku pedalaman penyakitan, hingga menemukan sebab penyakitnya! Ckck, kapan kehidupanku seperti mereka ya.
