Pia Saves the Day

Rate this book
In the latest story of the Elder Races, two mates face their deadliest challenge yet—each other…

Pia and Dragos’s magical young son Liam (the Peanut), is growing at an unprecedented rate, and if that isn't enough, he is also exhibiting new, and unpredictable, magical gifts. To protect him, the concerned parents decide to move to upstate New York.

Both Dragos and Pia relish the idea of leaving behind the city. They finally have the space to indulge their Wyr side, and Liam can grow in safety. It’s a breath of fresh air—literally—but their idyllic situation is shattered when Dragos is injured in a freak accident.

Stripped of his memory and bereft of Pia’s taming influence, there’s nothing holding back Dragos’s darkest side. And in order to restore her family and save her mate, Pia must confront the most powerful menace in Elder Races history.

It’s going to take more than a penny to fix this…

I write paranormal romance, urban fantasy, and other stuff. I taught myself to read when I was four. That was around the time I tried to ride my tricycle to work. I wasn't sure where work was, but I knew it had to be interesting if people went there every day. Now I combine my love of books with work, and I don't have to ride my tricycle to get there. My Elder Races series began May, 2011. You can also find me on Twitter and Facebook!

How to start, how to start this rant review...

description

First of all, let's get one thing out of the way before I even get started.

This book cover?

Fucking. Heinous.

HEINOUS, I say.

I'm sorrynotsorry, but I do NOT picture Pia as a somewhat unfortunate looking knock-kneed butt-less wonder with a 1980's haircut.

description

Hey Fake Cover Pia, the 80's called and they want their acid wash jean shorts back.

But wait you say, 80's fashion is hip again!

I don't care.

If current teenage selfie takers want to look like idiots and wear high-waisted acid wash butt cheek shorts that look like sporadically stained diapers, more power to em.

But in my opinion, 1980's fashion is AWFUL and it should stay where it belongs:

Underground in someone's never-to-be-dug-up-again 80's time capsule.

Except the movies and the music.

Those can stay here in 2015 with me, Maverick and Ice Man.

description

Rawr.

But anyway, I'm going to pretend like I didn't see this train wreck cover.

Something else I'm gonna pretend I didn't see?

This book ending.

I mean truly.

What. The. Fuck.

This ending made about as much sense to me as this picture:

description

Which is to say none at all.

Except for the fact that that bitch^^^ up there?

Could apparently be Pia, what with her fabulous 'do.

Seriously though.

I love Dragos and Pia. They are in my top couples of all time list, magical list of wonder that it is.

They are kickass, they are mated, they are together.

But the way this book leaves things?

It's like they are broken in a way.

And I don't like it.

description

*foot stomp* *foot stomp* *foot stomp*

Needless to say, the last few pages of this managed to bring it down two whole stars for me.

Here's hoping that the next installment solves this little dilemma for me and puts what feels like a broken Humpty Dumpty back together again.

Dragos and his family - STORY 2

The story in which Dragos is at his weakest and Pia needs to remind him who is his most valuable treasure.

"I brought you gifts."
Gifts?
Nobody brought the dragon gifts.
The very idea was laughable.

There has been a terrible explosion and Dragos, the most poweful being on Earth, will have to strangle to recover.
This short story is all about Pia and Dragos and the power of their love.
I honestly cried in the end.

Pia Saves the Day is #6.6 book in Thea Harrison's Elder Races Series and continues just after the ending of previous novella, Dragos Takes a Holiday.

Dragos and Pia have decided to move to a home in upstate New York to have a large place where Liam can enjoy growing up with space and safety.

Dragos is trying to deal with the lose of his memory during his treasure hunt trip and Pia is there for him......hell, he's become even more ferocious...can Pia handle this awesome dragon!!!!

“She was the real treasure, more precious than sapphires, diamonds and gold.
At the core of his ancient, cynical heart, he was an acquisitive creature, after all.”
I love the relationship between Dragos and Liam........these two are so adorable.......

The story continues with the next novella, Peanut Goes to School.

The Elders world is so well-constructed and interesting that I can't help myself........I need more of the endearing characters.

I love Pia and Dragos, and was looking forward to delving into this, but honestly the title is a bit of a fib, implying more drama and intensity than actually occurs. This little novella is on the sweet side, whilst it didn't have me sinking into the sofa in delight, the novella was one I was enjoying, until the blasted ending - that just made me frown.

The ending had me flipping back and forth to see if a page or two would miraculously appear - it was abrupt and not the ending I was hoping for.

4 3/4 "You're in my bones" Stars!

I absolutely freaking loved this little beauty. It shows off Dragos' true nature and how truly connected he and Pia are. Also, that little guy Liam is so cool. So, why the quarter star off? I don't exactly love the position Dragos is in at the end of the book. Dragons and vulnerable don't go together. But I'm still 5 staring it because I loved all the rest of the story and I have faith that this situation will soon be resolved. Fantastic addition to the series! Happy reading!!

Enjoyable enough, though a little tropey and cliche with Dragos's whole amnesia and Pia's Mary Sue response to it all.
I didn't like Peanut/Liam or whatever his name was, his character was far too cutesy and precocious, he came across as a spoilt little know-it-all brat. I hope he never gets his own full length novel, he's already insufferable enough, despite only being a few months old.

Can true love overcome amnesia?

Harrison once again amazes with this dazzling novella length story...and boy does it pack a punch. We are pulled through the gambit of emotions as Pia tries to reconnect to the man she loves. There is no other way to describe Harrison's writing but to say it is magical. Her purely fictional, shape shifting characters jump off the page and climb right into your heart.

I can't wait to see where we will be taken next...talk is we are heading to 1st grade with Peanut.

I received this ARC copy of Pia Saves the Day from Thea Harrison in exchange for a honest review. This book is set for publication June 23, 2014.

4.5 ★'s

Pia and Dragos have decided they need to build a home for Peanut out in the country and it's there that Dragos gets hurt...badly. He immediately converts to his dragon self and takes off after almost killing Pia. Naturally, Pia takes off after him.

I have loved Pia and Dragos since the first book and with each and every book after, I enjoy them more and more. TH keeps things lively, entertaining and endearing, not to mention hot, hot, HOT!

Dragos doesn't remember Pia and while that was horrible, it was wonderful seeing him fall in love with her all over again. The interesting part was seeing Dragos at his most dangerous and most cunning. He was so quick to pick up on things and put the clues together. It made me laugh though at how jealous he was of the other Dragos! Gotta love those dual POV's!

description

Pia, of course, was amazing. She definitely rose to the challenge and took care of business. There were moments when she was upset that almost made me cry! But I'm glad she loves him so much that she would do anything for him.

My only problem with the novella was, obviously, it's too short and I felt it left things unfinished. I wanted to know more about how Dragos was doing.

And holy cow! Can we talk about Peanut for a moment? That about killed me when he showed up...I know Pia felt like she missed out on things. He is such a character though, we never know what to expect!

I cannot wait for the next book, Peanut Goes to School. I'm sure we will get more answers in that one...and more Pia and Dragos of course!

My Review:

What a superb novella with Dragos and Pia and I have mixed feelings on how everything got resolved with this one. This is where we see Dragos and Pia really go through some hardship here. Dragos gets in a accident and ends up with amnesia and not remembering his mate or their son. It was super heart wrenching to see what Pia goes through on this and trying to connect with Dragos again so she can heal him and help him with his memories to come back. I can't imagine anything rougher on a couple like these two, then having to go through that together. And even though I loved seeing their journey to come back together, I also wish it had been a bit more resolved. But there is a another novella coming up with their son where I am hoping that we see it all finalized together. But overall it was blast getting back to this couple and seeing them work through conflicts together in their HEA.

Favorite Quote:

" In the fourteen months they had been together, the desire had never changed. Elemental, as necessary as breathing, it dictated the rhythm of their lives. They orbited around each other, always looking, always reaching for the other, but it never ceased to amaze her that he looked at her this way. "

This was an interesting little novella that really put a spin on things in the Elder Races world. As the synopsis says, Dragos and Pia are pitted against each other almost in a battle of the wills for a short period of time. Unlike the usual cool an collected Dragos we're use to we get to meet the more primitive side of this guy which throws Pia for a loop. There's also mention of Liam in this book, he really kinda becomes the motivating factor between this couple to work out their differences.

If you like this series you'll enjoy this quick read. If you haven't read at least the first book in this series, don't try to read this until you read the other.

The one absolutely constant thing in this series has been the intense connection between Pia and Dragos, their Love literally lept off the pages so when faced with this short novella I cried like a baby. The amnesia traumatized me just as much as Pia!!! and it ended abruptly!!!!!
Moving on to the next where hopefully this situation is cleared up, I need the Dragos and Pia connection reestablished stat!

Review

First I must start by stating that I adore the Elder Races series and these short novellas just leave me hungry for more! This world filled with magical creatures straight out of dreams ( and nightmares!) just pulls me in and I so want a dragon of my own! Dragos is the ultimate hero, powerful, strong, demanding and yet filled with passion and goodness. He has had millennia to grow bored with life and yet his avaricious nature has kept him hunting. Now mated to Pia his world is filled with deep joy and the icing on their cake? Well, that's their son Liam AKA Peanut . Moving out of the city should make their lives easier but a chance accident leaves Dragos injured and Pia distraught ! Dragos has lost all memory of the woman who owns his heart but he would never deliberately hurt her, or would he?
I love that Ms Harrison gives us these snippets of life within the Cuelebre household and it's such a treat to catch up with favourite characters whilst waiting for full length books to be released. In this story we get to see Pia face true heartbreak as the one thing she thought impossible comes to pass. Everything that she holds dear is at stake but she's one determined lady! Pia not only copes with her own grief but still thinks of practical things and sets in motion solutions to what could be a disaster. She's such a strong character with amazing depth and backbone .in this story we get to see just how different Dragos would be without his civilised veneer as his true nature is that of a beast!
How can I feel so satisfied and yet so wanting? This very emotional short story tugged at my heart strings and I really empathised with the loss that Pia felt. The world this author has created is impossibly getting better with each book. I've noticed from her website that the next novella feature Liam and I know that many readers will be cheering for that as the Peanut is such an intriguing character filled with possibilities for mischief and mayhem . He isn't a huge presence in this particular story here but the scenes that he is in he certainly steals. This short read was a fabulous way to spend an hour and this reader is awash in admiration at the depth of emotion it generated. I heartily recommend reading this series and would suggest starting with Dragon Bound as it's an amazing journey.

This novella absolutely hit the spot. Thea Harrison somehow managed to take a longtime couple and make their story feel new again. That’s no small feat after two full length novels and an earlier novella already devoted to them. They’re married. They have a baby. Yet they are still sexy and with the progression of this story, we got to watch them fall in love all over again.

As the story begins, Pia and Dragos are settling into their new home with the baby, but there is still work to be done before the house is finished. And it’s during that construction work that Dragos is seriously injured. It’s so bad, he loses his memories… of his past, his humanity, and of course Pia.

This is obviously a devastating blow to Pia. The novella follows her efforts to help Dragos remember their lives together. It really reminded me why I liked Pia. She is so loyal and completely in love with her man. She is brave, even in her moments of heartbreak and fear.

I also really enjoyed the time spent in Dragos’ POV. I loved seeing that base, animal side of him that is a dragon as old as time. Watching his animal learn about his life as a man. And the very best of all is watching him fall in love with Pia all over again. I loved it.

I don’t know how well this would serve readers unfamiliar with Dragos and Pia’s backstory. But for longtime fans, I can’t imagine that this won’t be a hit. I found it engaging and very satisfying.

Another quick, sweet glimpse into the life of Dragos & Pia, though entirely too short. It was interesting to see how amnesia affected the always strong & reliable Dragos. And Harrison depicted an overlooked consequence of amnesia that some sufferers might experience- building a life on the foundations of the old you, a person that you don't remember but definitely existed based on the memories of the people you loved.

The ending ruined this. I'm agreeing with Val on this, it's just not right how the author concluded this. I hate it. It was great & sweet until the end and the real lack of anything being fixed. I guess the author decided things were too happy & perfect for Pia and Dragos, so she had to throw a monkey wrench into the world and melt it into the gears, no simple fix available. So sucky.

Favorite Quote: “See me. Choose me.”

Pia Saves The Day is the second novella in the Elder Races series that revisits our favorite couple Dragos and Pia Cuelebre. Short but fulfilling, Harrison takes the reader through an array of emotion as she introduces some serious conflict into our couple’s lives. Fans of Dragon Bound will appreciate this sweet romantic story that shows us that no matter what is thrown Pia and Dragos’ way, this couple will overcome.

Pia, Dragos, and their son Liam (Peanut) are in upstate New York, getting their new home put to rights. A freak construction accident causes Dragos to lose his memory, stripping him of everything that ties him to Pia and Liam. Pia must now put aside her pain in order to lead her mate back to her. The only problem is that the most dangerous creature in the Wyr Demise doesn’t submit to anyone.

Though I haven’t always been a fan of Pia’s, she gets on my nerves at times because she’s so dang perfect, I did enjoy her take charge attitude when having to deal with a centuries old dragon who suddenly has no knowledge of her or their life together. Her actions and thoughts are spot on when she realizes that the love of her life doesn’t remember her. A second chance love trope, if you will, as we watch Dragos fall in love with Pia all over again, further cementing their already powerful bond.

This change in events is sure to make for some interesting moments in the third novella, Peanut Goes To School, and the next full length novel, Night’s Honor.

The story of Pia and Dragos was the one that started this series and this novella was a bit of a surprise.

The basic premise here is that Dragos has suffered a traumatic injury while in his human form which has left him with his memory damaged and he is more dragon than thinking being.

The title does describe the story quite well because we see a much deeper and resilient Tia than ever before and you will have more respect for her character after this. She take on Dragos recovery as a mission for life and nothing else other than her child matters. I will not give any spoilers here but Tia carries this story with her devotion and inner strength.

The only problem I had with this story is that to me the plot was not fully resolved at the end, not sure if we are going to hear more in the next installment of the series or if we are supposed to assume that everything goes back to the way it was before.

Since I found the ending to be a bit uncertain and unclear I gave this 4 Stars and will be curious to see how the next book addresses this story if at all.

I suspected the story would cause me to cry and it did.

Meeting up with Pia, Dragos and Liam is always a pleasure and this was no exception. The characters remained true to themselves throughout the story.

Can't really say too much without spoiling the story. Just that there's a lot of story crammed into 10 chapters and then, fortunately, only a short wait until Liam's adventure.

I love Pia and Dragos! Always happy to read stories about their life together.

I also love how deftly Thea writes the dragon's POV and describes him. Dangerous, amusing, and darkly sexy in his own way.

A crisis allows us to to see Pia and Dragos interact at the most fundamental level of their relationship. A sweet novella that gives some new insights into their characters.
