1 ½ Disappointing Stars

To say this book didn't work for me is an understatement! I know most loved this story, but it just wasn't for me.

I've looked forward to reading Trey's book. He's been such an intriguing character throughout this series and I couldn't wait to learn more about him. Unfortunately, his story completely ruined his character for me.

I struggled with, and didn't appreciate, having to read about Trey–in explicit detail–hooking up with random women throughout MOST of this book. It's one of the reasons this story didn't work for me. The hero having sex with other women is NOT what I want to read in my romance books! I ended up skimming those parts.

To top it off, the heroine, Tara, didn't make an appearance until THE SECOND HALF OF THE STORY! The fact that it took so long (55%) for Trey to meet her made it difficult for me to care about or even feel a connection between the two of them.

And don't get me started about the reason Trey had an instant connection with the heroine. I just couldn't get past that.

I finished this book only because I wanted to spend more time with the other characters I've grown to love throughout this series. Thank goodness for Jack, Leila, and Hunter. Especially Jack! Now, he's what I love in a hero!!

While the author did a good job explaining the reasons Trey behaved the way he did throughout the series, it just wasn't the story for me.

2 'not my type of romance' stars!

Trey Taylor is the mysterious bass player for Devil's Lair. He keeps to himself and goes through women like water. He fucks them and then when things start to get serious, he'll leave them. No one really knows much about his past and as a reader, that calls out to me. I wanted to read his story. I wanted to know what made him tick.

The first half of the book was devoted to his past and his past alone. On the one hand, I liked that I got to read about his past but to devote 50% of the book to just his past was a bit excessive for me. The story dragged. I have to read about Trey getting it on with other women, not once or twice but many times. I'm one of those people who doesn't like to read about the hero having sex with other women in graphic detail. It's a matter personal preference.

I understood the need to tell us about how he got his name and about his but the rest of it felt unnecessary for me considering that the present was more important in the grand scheme of things.

Even then, I could probably accept that part if the heroine was introduced early, like say, around 10% or 15%. But nope. The heroine wasn't introduced until 57% into the book. 57%!!! And once they met, it felt like the story just fast-forwarded, and then BAM! The End. It felt rushed compared to the first part. Trey's relationship with the heroine was woefully underdeveloped and rushed.

At first, I actually thought the heroine was someone who got introduced early on in the book and that somehow she'll appear again and reconnect with Trey in the second half of the book. I was wrong. The girl that was introduced earlier wasn't the heroine. She was just some random girl. I actually liked her better than the heroine.

Again, this might have been okay with other readers but it's not my cup of tea. I want my couple to meet early on and work their way through the whole book, KWIM?

And oh, here's a real doozy. The It was the only reason Trey noticed her and fell instantly in love with her. Again, most of you might not have a problem with that. But I would prefer my heroine

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

While Trey explained his feelings to the reader, I didn't buy his explanation because my mind would always remember the fact that And he did nothing to convince her of that it was not he wanted. Even the heroine's reaction was unbelievable. She just accepted it with no questions whatsoever. I didn't get it. I was looking for the angst that comes with that knowledge that She didn't even question that.

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

And although I really liked the male POV and liked Trey, I didn't feel any connection with his love for the heroine. Their relationship was underdeveloped, IMO. I would have loved to read more about the two of them, how they overcame the challenges to their relationship.

I'm definitely in the minority with this one. A lot of things just didn't work, and sadly, I just couldn't ignore them.

As I've said many times, I LOVE the whole Back-Up series. I never thought that A.M. Madden could top these three books, well I was WRONG! Backstage was BRILLIANT! In my wildest dreams I never would have imagined that Trey’s back story would have taken this route. From page one A.M. Madden’s writing talent shines. Her ability to come up with this story line proves what a talented writer she really is. My heart and soul was ripped out of my chest as I read what Trey had been through, and my emotions once again were TOTALLY ENGAGED! This whole book explains to a 'T' why Trey was the way he was, and A.M. Madden could NOT have told it any better!

Backstage has an excellent flow to it, and as Trey’s story unfolds we met so many new characters. These characters all added so much to the overall plot. I loved getting into his mind during this part of the story and how he dealt with certain circumstances.

The sex is off the charts HOT! There are MANY scenes and MANY different partners, and done without any feeling from Trey. He just bangs them and leaves them. But, by this time in the story we already know why Trey does this and it fits very well into the story line.

When Trey finally meets up with Jack and Hunter, his life takes a bit of a positive turn. It was wonderful being brought back into the fold of the Devil’s Lair and most of the characters from the previous books. Even though things start to look up for Trey, he was still extremely guarded with his emotions and feelings. Then he meets Tara, a journalist doing interviews with each person in the band. Trey is immediately attracted to her, but as his feelings start to grow for her, his worst worst fears come into play. The emotions from Trey LEAP off of the pages at you. It’s a very intense part of the read and I was glued to the book!! WHERE DOES A.M. MADDEN COME UP WITH THIS STUFF?

The ending is PERFECTION! I couldn't imagine it any other way!

I have to say that as each of these books in the Back-Up series was released, I loved each one more than the last, but this one topped all of them and holds a special place in my heart. I can easily say that it’s one of the BEST books I’ve read so far this year.

I HIGHLY recommend this book to all of those who have loved the Back-Up series. This is must read for you. Those of you who have NOT read the Back-Up series I URGE you to give it a try, simply put, it is OUTSTANDING!

*My final thoughts and a thank you*
When I read book one, Back-Up, I was completely surprised at how good it was, especially since it was a debut novel and a new author . Of course when book two, Front & Center, was released it was a must read, and I could not believe how much my feelings were engaged throughout this book. I was completely AMAZED by A.M. Madden's writing skills and storytelling. Then of course the third and final book of the Back-Up series was released, Encore. This is the book that concluded the series and wrapped up everything so perfectly for the many characters...except one...Trey. Well A.M. Madden’s fans all LOVED Encore, but they voiced their need to have Trey’s story told. He was a mysterious character throughout the whole Back-Up series. He never let anyone into his personal life and hid himself and his feelings from EVERYONE. No one knew where he came from, the life he had before he joined the Devil’s Lair, or why he jumped from woman to woman, and was basically a man-whore. I have to thank all of A.M Madden’s fans for urging her to write Trey’s story, without them we may not have gotten it or would have had a much longer wait. I’d also like to give A.M. Madden a HUGE thank you for putting her fans wants and needs first, changing her writing schedule just to write this book for us!

BACKSTAGE by AM Madden

Well. It's happened. I just turned the last page of Trey Taylor's story. And it was fanfreakingtastic!!!!

He's been such a mystery through the entire series. This is the book I've been really anticipating the most! Minus his cocky one liners and his need for sex (and who didn't love reading about that) we really knew nothing about Trey. Which I was good with for a while because I fell in LOVE with what I did know. Lol. I am telling you right now, from the very beginning of this book you WILL find out who Trey Taylor REALLY is and WHY!! And OMG is it a story to be told. I cried. I laughed. I cried some more and laughed even harder. If you are like me and think you may know him or have him figured out you are about to be set in a tailspin. So buckle up. It's going to be a HOT and bumpy ride. I mean we are talking about Trey Taylor right! Ya know it's gonna be hot. And ya know it's gotta be bumpy! So get your oneclickers ready groupies, hang on, and meet the REAL Trey freaking Taylor!!

With how AM Madden wrote this she has made this fourth book in the Back-Up series by far my favorite of them all. I freaking loved it!!! Now I just sit here and wonder if I could use my Ninja Mind Tricks on her and she will make some huge announcement there will be another book in the series. Because as much I wanted Trey's story I am so not ready for this awesome series to end. So take note. If she EVER makes the announcement there will be another book in this series... You're Welcome! lol

I've loved Trey through the whole series and couldn't wait until his story was told. I had the pleasure of being a beta reader for Backstage and I was tortured slowly, one chapter at a time, while I waited for A.M. to feed me the next one! With every little detail that I learned about Trey, I wanted more and more.

A.M. doesn't disappoint with Backstage. Meet Trey Taylor, the man behind the sunglasses. The sexy rock star every woman wanted but no one could get close (except maybe Leila, but in a different way). In this book, we get an up-close and personal view of him and what makes him the way he is today. And when you get to the end, your heart will have been broken, repaired, broken, repaired, happy with the outcome and sad to see the last page appear.

Get this book right now! LOVE the Back-Up Series, LOVE AM Madden, and LOVE Trey!!!

Hot, intense, enchanting, intriguing, heartbreaking...

These are simply few words of the thousands that are passing through my head while trying to describe this amazing book.

I love rock star romance and The Back-up Series by A.M. Madden is one of my favorite. Up till yesterday Jack Lair was also my favorite rock star bad boy and number one BBF. Well, all that changed once I started reading Backstage. We all know Trey Taylor as the bad boy bass player who looks like he doesn't have a care in the world, the loner, the outsider in the band, the guy who doesn't care much about the world around him and changes his one night stands faster than you can blink. Well, your opinion of him will be forever changed once you start reading his story.

This book had me in tears after the first few pages. I feel obliged to say that it is not often that a book can make me cry. With that said, I was crying for most of this one. The story is so heartbreaking. I always expected that there was something dark in Trey's past but I never expected what was so masterfully revealed on the pages. The anguish and pain he feels during the book felt so real that I had to stop every now and then to catch my breath. My eyes are tearing even now when I remember all the demons Trey had to fight for his happiness.

The truth is that I wouldn't change a word in this story. It is fast paced and there isn't even a single line that is boring or anything of the sort. It kept me on my toes all the time and it is definitely intriguing. I loved the darker note of the story because it completely fits with Trey's personality from the other books in the series. At the same time there are some lighthearted moments and some extremely hot once who bring a nice balance to the heartbreaking and anguishing once.

Backstage definitely became my favorite book from The Back-up Series and I think it always will be. There was just something about Trey and his story that really touched my heart. Combined with the great way the book was written, and I have to say that it will be really difficult to find another book to compete with this one. It is just that good. And Trey will be forever tattooed on my heart ;)

"You never know how strong you are until being strong is the only choice you have"

This is the first quote that came to mind when I finished this book so I had to include it in my review. Words fail me at the moment to describe how incredibly touching, heartbreaking and powerful this story was.

We all think we know Trey from the three previous installments of the Back Up Series, but the true is, that the man hiding behind the dark sunglasses is a complete mystery to the world.
I'm not going to give much, if anything, about the plot because this is a story that you need to read to understand the real human being hiding behind not only sunglasses, but the crude jokes, and the constant desire to sleep around. And yes, I know this is a fictional character, but after reading this I can assure you that you will see Trey under a different light.

We all deal with the situations that life throws at us in different ways, and Trey was dealt a very rotten hand by it. This man is a survivor through and through, I was in tears the first couple of pages and I felt compelled more than once throughout the book to reach out and hold him and offer some comfort. This man's journey felt so real that it touched me deeply.

Infinite sadness, rage, hate, compassion, acceptance, brotherhood and love are some of the words that came to mind after finish reading. I love the fact that A.M. decided to concentrate the storyline around Trey's life and what made him the man he became instead of his stage persona. I feel like it made the story more authentic and it gave it the human touch needed to understand the character better.

The author also gives us some insight on the other band members and the bond that they all shared from the very beginning until the present time. Please know that the story deals with some delicate subjects but Mrs Madden did an excellent job approaching these subjects and showcasing them in the best way possible. This a brilliantly told tale of survival and second chances.

I feel like giving this book 5 stars won't do it justice. If you're were a fan of the first three books of this series please do yourself a favor and grab Backstage ASAP, I can assure you you won't be disappointed.

OMG I FLOVE this book!!!
I fell in love with Jack & Leila's story with Back-Up, Front & Center, & Encore. We all learned the life of a rock star and being a member of the band Devil's Lair. You get to learn a little bit of each character. But BACKSTAGE is Trey's story.. We have always seen him as that guy that is dark & mysterious with a cocky smile. He hides behind his sunglasses for what reason? What is he hiding from? .. Every girl wants him & every guy wants to be him. He never gave us anything, no info about is past.. We all want to know why Trey is the way he is... In BACKSTAGE A.M. Madden delivered a freakin awesome book. With Trey's story there is no holding back, he is a good bad boy!! I don't want to spoil anything and will update my review once the book is release.. But if you have not read the Back-up series yet get on it... BACKSTAGE starts with Trey's life at a young age and goes thru all the drama. You find what brought on this mask or sunglass to hide is past. BACKSTAGE shows how Trey meets the members of Devil's Lair. Trey has had love, loss, heartache, & will he every accept love? Will he every find happiness? Have to read it to find out.. You will not be disappointed with this book. I am hope this is not the end of the series.. I hope A.M. Madden will write another book in this series.. I don't want it to end, and I will not accept that this the end. But if it is, what a hell of a ending it is...

I had all night to sleep on my review and im still speechless. Trey is my new favorite of the Devils Lair guys.

As most of you have all ready know he has a hard shell and is tough to break open and get to know. Well we get to find out why in Backstage. The hardship that Trey has endured since a young kid that he is so strong when you hear his story. Cried a few times in this book but also laughed which is like the jokester Trey. You get the new side of Trey that your not expecting. The guys and Leila are still in this book which is nice to see how they have bonded also. I was grining ear to ear at parts of Trey and Leila there friendship is just something else. The way he tries to push his feelings aside are just Trey like. (you will see why when you read) but to know that his limits are pushed just makes me smile.

A.M. Madden has outdone herself as this book is fantastic. Its so hard to not give so much away but this was my favorite of the Back-Up series.

ETA 4.29.20: So apparently Tara dies in a later book and now Trey gets another love of his life? Like what in the actual f*ck??? I literally am lost for words. Wow. I enjoyed the Back-Up series, well, the first 3 books, as you can see this one wasn't my fave, but now Tara is DEAD??? What was the ever loving point to this book??? Wow, just wow.

I'm in the minority here on this review. To quote another reviewer here, this wasn't my kind of romance. Like many others I have waited anxiously to read Trey Taylor's story. I'm sad to say it wasn't what I thought nor what I hoped. The first half of the book doesn't read like a romance novel. It reads more like a dark work of fiction. This was certainly not what I expected.

From reading the previous three books in this series, we knew Trey Taylor had a past, had secrets. The first half of the book details all of those secrets, including graphic sex scenes with multiple women. Personally I don't care for my hero to sleep with other women in the story but I can accept it. If the H does I would prefer something less descriptive. The scenes were too graphic with the other women and I could have done without it. I would prefer that those scenes be glossed over or have a brief mention. In fact, these were very descriptive. I didn't care for them at all, especially

Trey Taylor has intrigued me since he first appeared on the page in Back-Up. I was super excited to read his story. I'm sad to say I got a little too much. Based on my experience with the first three books I expected something completely different than I what I read. This book was far less romance and more darkness and grittiness.

At 40% I was a bit upset that Trey hadn't even met Devil's Lair and is in fact still in LA. I was almost half way through the book and hadn't seen the characters I loved and enjoyed in the first 3 books in the series. This book seems like it is separate from the rest of the series.

Then even more surprises and shocks, I wasn't expecting happen in the book to our heroine. Perhaps if I had known it would happen it wouldn't have disappointed me so much.

The love story between Trey and Tara just felt rushed. They meet in the book and then they are together and then not and then back together. It felt like we were reading about them in someone else's book. In fact, I felt like I was back reading Encore where they were first introduced. We get some scenes with them on their own before they breakup.

I really feel I would have enjoyed this book more if I hadn't expected it to be like the first 3 in the series. My expectations for this one fell along the same lines. I thought we would get a brief look into Trey's past and then move into his relationship with Tara and build from that point. Instead, I received way too much detail, graphic detail, about his sexual relationships with other women, a heroine who looks remarkably like our hero's first love, and then something completely unexpected, to a pretty tame ending.

Overall, I just wasn't as impressed with this book. As stated above, I am in the minority in regards to my review. Many others liked the book tremendously. For me, it wasn't the romance I expected and wasn't the type of book I like to read.

Since reading the Back-Up Series we've learned that Trey Taylor knows how to play the stage... especially as a back-up, front and center member of Devil’s Lair. We also know he performs outstanding encore performances. So, here we are now…where it all began. This is our ticket, our BACKSTAGE pass to the life of this INCREDIBLE, IRRESISTIBLE, and IMPOSSIBLE to read man!!!

He has the right moves and the beat that will string your heart along. He's words and actions are so heartfelt and at times heart breaking. You can't help but FALL in LOVE with him...over and over again. I did!!! I'm SO glad I did!!! I wish I could just hold him...well, who I am kidding I wish more than that!! ;)
Trey is to me the MODERN day Prince charming....well, ok I've heard someone say ‘F--- Prince Charming… I need Trey Taylor’ and it’s so FREAKING TRUE. This sexy, tattooed, cocky, bad boy, rock star is everything our mother's warned us to stay away from....but everything our friends say try once or you'll always regret it if you don't. So ladies, my dear friends try this book once because you will regret it if you don't!! One taste of Trey Taylor in your hands and you will NEVER. WANT. TO. LET. GO.

Yes, he is guarded, loves to be alone, and pretty much keeps to himself. Yes, he is a badass bass player, and a hell of a lover. If you're lucky enough to be liked...let alone loved by Trey, make sure you hold on to it. Loving Trey or being in love with him is an experience that will fulfill your every need, want, and desire.... as well as, completing your mind, body, heart, and soul.
Trey is the way he is because he needs to break free from the darkness that is holding him down. The constant shadows and demons of his pasts lurking up from out of nowhere and threatens not only his present, but his future too. He needs to find peace and break free otherwise he will be a prisoner for life...giving himself the death sentence without parole.

HEARTFELT…HEARTBREAK...HEARTFULL…PRICELESS…PERFECT...
A.m. gives it all to you in this story that will string at your heart, tear it apart and piece it back together. You will FALL...deep within the first few pages. You will feel like you’re on a magical, mystery, roller coaster ride that will have you screaming and shouting as well panting and gasping for air. You will want to punch, kick, and curse at something... just don't take it out on the kindle! You will want to continue reading, falling, and letting the words consume you whole. You will hold on tight and never want to let go.

I swear it’s so worth the ride. My heart literally BROKE, MELTED, STOPPED, and RACED.
ALL OF ME knows that Trey is worthy of this standing ovation!!! A.m. Madden got my standing ovation as well, for her outstanding writing that gives off the charts emotions. Thank you A.m. for giving us the modern day Prince Charming!!!!!!!!! No pressure, but I want and need more of her fabulous work. I’m off to re-read it again…
I want to leave you with this quote that I found. "We must be willing to get rid of the life we planned, so as to have the life that is waiting for us" Joseph Campbell
Will Trey let go? Will Trey give in? Find out in Backstage…get ready by be consumed whole!!!

I was LUCKY enough to be a beta reader BACKSTAGE by AM MADDEN...So I gave her my input and in exchange I'm leaving my honest review.

OMG, Backstage was freaking fabulous. It is definitely my favorite of the Back Up Series by Am Madden.
Trey's story is the UNBELIEVEABLE journey from his late teen years through the present. It is angsty, emotional, sexy and SO FREAKING GOOD...and yeah...I did say SEXY, right? we all know that's what we love about Trey...his sexy factor and funny one liners.
I know Trey is a favorite character from the series, and loved by many, and I can tell you...YOU WILL BE BLOWN AWAY...you'll get all the juicy details and see who Trey is inside and out, and what made him who he is today.
You'll get to meet some of the women in his life, find out how he began his musical career, get to meet his parents and all of the people that made Trey Taylor!
The glimpses into his youth and his first love were so emotional...ugh...it's so hard to explain to your kids why your crying as your reading.. LOL
The End...oh my goodness..so totally unbelievably exciting...just WOW..
Like I said at the beginning...
BACKSTAGE, the Back Up Series, book 4 is the BEST ONE YET!!!

Trey's story was not really what I expected -- neither loved or hated it. I just didn't find the LA element or the characters there to be of much interest. I thought it moved way too slowly through the first half with an overload of wasted time that could have been more effectively spent in NYC with the building relationship between Trey and Tara. For me, what should have been the center of Trey's story felt rushed and without enough convincing substance. There was never a feeling of being "involved" in the story or feeling the raw emotions. And the epilogues from both Trey and Tara fell way below my need-to-know-more scale.

A bit of a disappointment as this series draws to an end.

Backstage by A.M. Madden tells us the story of Trey Taylor, bassist of Devil’s Lair. I have to be careful in my review of this book because I have such a case of diarrhea of the mouth; I just want to scream the whole story.

For those of you that have loved Ms. Madden’s Back-up series as much as I have, you know that Trey has been a mystery to us. In Encore she gave us just a little bit more of Trey’s personality, and it only fueled the want and need to know his story. Believe me, Ms. Madden goes straight to the heart and gut in Backstage right from the beginning. From The Prologue to The End, I was glued to the pages. I was so overcome with emotions -heartbreak, pain, fury, laugh out loud moments, love, hotter than hell moments, anxiety, and so much more. It’s everything I want in a book. There were times I just wanted to crawl right into the pages from what I was feeling for Trey.

Trey’s story begins when he’s eighteen years old and continues through the next ten years of his life up to present time. We already know that Trey’s a badass rocker with a smart dirty mouth so I expected that and I loved him for it. What I didn’t expect was the compassionate, loving side of Trey that had me swooning and yes, a little (that’s a lie, a lot) wet in the panties. Please don’t judge me, I dare you to disagree when you read it :)

The camaraderie between the band members grows ever closer. The relationship Trey has with Leila Lair warms my heart. A major turning point for Trey will have you sitting on the edge of your seat with the circumstances surrounding it. I can’t say anymore; my case of mouth diarrhea is close.

A.M. Madden, author that I’ve never met but feel like we’re longtime friends, has knocked this one out of the park. As much as I loved Back-up, Front & Center, and Encore, I have to say Trey’s story has stolen my heart.

ARC given by author in exchange for an honest review.

Trey Taylor didn't have a good life growing up. He didn't get the love he's supposed to receive from his parents, but he had the love and bond he had with Taylor Rappaport. She was a girl who didn't come from money, while Trey did. The love they had for each was so sweet and unforgettable.

I've always wondered what was behind the walls that Trey had put up. Why he was so mysteriously dark and just so rough around the edges. Now I know what he's been through and understanding where he was coming from, just made me love him even more. For someone who had lost someone, who was your whole life and your better half, was horrible. I can't imagine being in that situation.

A.M. knows how to be funny, freaky, loving and hot as hell. Trey just totally melted my panties off. I've been curious about him since he showed up in The Back-up. This is the story about Trey, who will pull you right in from the beginning to the end. Will get you hot and bothered and will have you panting and will want more of handsome and mysterious. I cried and laughed and cried some more. When I read about why he is the way he is now, I cried some more. I just wanted to crawl into the book and give him a hug and tell him that he is allowed to love again.

Always count me in when it comes to A.M. Madden's books. I have been a fan for awhile now. I've read the entire series about Jack and Leila, where it all began. This is so much more than what I expected. Trey will always have a special place in my heart. Going through hard times, he accepted and dealt with it the best way he can. Now I'm curious about Hunter. I can't wait!

So this book is a major rollercoaster...

Let's start by putting a face to the main character Trey Taylor (a.k.a Andrew Glass - real life bassist)

I really REALLY LOVED (yes shouty capitals) this book!! It's my fave in the series, no doubt about it.

Trey is a super complex character and has a depth I was not expecting. I did suspect a troubled past, but not one of my gazillion theories was dead on.

After leaving his old-self behind in Utah his life turns to pretty much sex and becoming a rockstar. Life is going ok until he moves to NYC and his life changes for ever. After winning a contest he meets his new band mates and the rest is history.

Life as a major rockstar totally works for him until he meets the one and his past catches up with him.

Really peeps, this series is AWESOME!! A.M. Madden, you're forever in my fave authors list.

Pick it up, you won't be disappointed.

Mostly my reaction with Trey this book:

Holy Hell - Trey - The mysterious member of Devil's Lair that we all know and love. Well I should add - The one we all want to fork too, if I'm being honest.

By now we all have some idea of what we think went on in Trey's life to make him the guy he is today but in reality we can NEVER guess the real reason Trey is the love them and leave them type of guy.

In Backstage we get his life story, the whole thing from when he was a teenager, through his first band experience, to meeting Jack and Hunter and joining Devil's Lair. It gutted me and left me in tears in more than one spot. It was the perfect ending to my favorite band member. After Backstage you will understand Trey's fear of commitment, his need to hide behind his shades and even the meaning behind the name we all know and love. There is not one thing missing from this book. It's damn near perfect in my book.

AM Madden made me love Trey more than I ever had before. My heart bled for him. If he were real I'm afraid I'd be arrested for stalking him. After everything he has been through he deserves one hell of a happy ending and the only one thing that could have made this book beyond perfect is if the one girl who stole his heart was me.

Kudos AM on another awesome Back-up book. (Please don't let it be the last...)

(WARNING - DO NOT READ THIS BOOK WITHOUT KLEENEX HANDY)

Trey Taylor first appeared in the Back-Up series (one of my favorite) where he was portrayed as the foul mouthed bass player of Devil's Lair. Closed off to the world, he became an enigma that everyone wanted to learn more about. In Backstage, we get to see behind that mask of insensitivity and complete control.

From the first sentence, his childhood life pulls at your heartstrings and you realize you will be tied to the story. Those early years full of despair, suffering, painful teenage love, and ultimate destruction at the hands of those who should've been his biggest supporters, help shape him into the hard man he is now. Living his life behind meaningless sexual encounters and uncommitted relationships, he has kept everyone at a distance while guarding his secret.

Trey' s vulnerability and broken soul emerge with the appearance of Tara, a journalist assigned to do an article about each of the Devil's Lair band members. Trey is attracted to Tara and struggles with the feelings he is beginning to have for her. This becomes even more difficult because the sexual tension and chemistry between them is INTENSE. Those interactions they have are full of steamy scenes and tender moments. Seeing Trey with Tara just made me fall in love with him.

When tragedy strikes once again, Trey realizes that his band members are more than just his friends, they are his brothers. Once he starts opening up to them, that relationship that we got a taste of in the Back-Up series is expanded upon. We get to experience how it all began and how deep it has become. I especially love the relationship between Trey and Leila. He sees his "little Lair" like a sister and although he doesn't say it, his actions show how much he really loves her.

A.M. Madden gives us another wonderfully written story of heartache, unconditional friendship, and love. She gives us a broken man who learns to confront his demons and ultimately fights his way out of his hell to reach that love he so desperately wanted and which will set his soul and spirit free.

I laughed, I cried, I sighed, and when it was all said and done, I felt like the weight of the world was lifted off my shoulders. Jack Lair held my heart, but now, Trey Taylor is giving him a run for his money.

Congratulations A.M. Madden, you have another HIT on your hands!

This book has been one hell of a ride. It has been an emotiona one because I am Trey Taylor's biggest fan, ever. This book broke me down and brought me to the brink of being an emotional mess.
A little about the story:
Trey Taylor was born with money. He is surrounded by people who are hypocrites and judgmental. His parents are his biggest disappointment. His mother is weak, his father is a devil in disguise. He plans to leave his past behind with the love of his life, until a tragedy strikes him hard. After confronting his biggest nemesis, he leaves his old life behind to start over.
He moves first to LA in hopes of making it big. What he encounters only solidifies his need to keep himself closed off from the world and trusting only himself. After being betrayed he moves on to New York. He starts all over again with his new life and looks for a chance at being a bass player. He enters an amateur night competition. He meets Jack Lair and Hunter Amatto who are looking to hire a bass player and the rest is history.
A few years later something happens and he knows that his past is catching up with him. His worst nightmare of letting people in and trusting them will have to be compromised in order for him to survive. Will he do it? Will he put himself in the position to be hurt by people he trusts?
Trey's past is one of tragic circumstances that encompasses so much heartache, disappointment, sorrow, sadness, and so few good memories. I cried from beginning to end because this story pulls at my heart strings and brings to the forefront how strong Trey is. It is true that the ones who pulled through from the dark end up being the strongest and most loyal people around. Pick up this wonderful, emotional roller coaster of a book and get to know my Book Husband Trey Taylor for yourself. It is a definite 5 STAR READ!

Trey Taylor – the man behind the shades, the mysterious bass player, the man no body truly knows – finally we get his story.

I have loved Trey throughout the Back-Up series, always wanting more from him, to know more about him. I never imagined I could love him more, but after reading Backstage I have absolutely fallen in love with this man. He is truly at the top of the book boyfriend list, and I don’t know or think he can ever be knocked down.

Be prepared for an emotional rollercoaster like you have never experienced before. I lost count of how many times my heart was shredded and put back together again. I literally cried like a baby, I mean big ugly cry, I smiled, laughed, sighed out loud, felt love, compassion, and seriously everything in between.

I have been a fan of A.M. Madden from the first page of Back-Up and I swear each book gets better than the last and Backstage is the BEST yet. As much as I loved Jack and Leila, Backstage and Trey blew me away. A.M. Madden is truly a phenomenal author that completely captivates me from the first page and can make me feel emotions that I didn’t think possible from reading a book.

ABSOLUTELY LOVE TREY TAYLOR!
We demanded Trey Taylor’s story and A.M Madden delivered. If you are like me and found yourself falling for Trey Taylor since book one of the Back Up series, then be prepared;you will find yourself head over heels in Love with the Bass player of Devil’s Lair.
Backstage is not your normal “rise to fame” rock star book. It is an emotional roller coaster filled with pain heartache romance acceptance and love. Backstage solves the mystery of the egocentric sexy rocker behind the sunglasses. The story has drama suspense and of course HOT SEXY ROMANCE!!
I couldn't put it down until I was done and even when I finished Trey’s story I sat there hugging my e-reader. The story is that amazing!
I can go on forever on how much I love this series and how each book just gets better and better! I can also go on and on how TREY TAYLOR will always be my favorite rocker BBF!*SIGH* A MUST READ!

I was absolutely blown away by Trey Taylor's story. In my opinion, it is definitely the best book in the series. It was such a beautiful and unexpected story.

We all got to love and wonder about the quiet and mysterious Trey Taylor during the first three Back-up series. He was a loner but I always knew there was more to him than met the eye. In Backstage you get to know the real Trey and to be in his head and heart is an incredible and amazing experience. He has his reasons for every strange way he behaves. He is now my favorite book boyfriend.

I love the affectionate relationship between him and Leila. I love the I tenseness of his relationship with "The one" once he meets her. It's a captivating book and I would give it six stars if I could. "I heavily liked this book" as Trey would say!

I have been a fan of A.M. Madden’s book since I read Back Up. Give me a hot, romantic, sexy rocker read by her and I’m a happy reader. However, when she adds intrigue and suspense to her stories, I am an ecstatic reader. Until reading Backstage, my favorite book by Ms. Madden was Front & Center. As of now, Trey’s story is my favorite.

Throughout the series, readers have come to know Trey as the cocky, broody, manwhore that he is. While his character has been well developed through the series, his personal background remains an enigma. In my mind, I had conjured up a backstory for Trey and why he goes through life as he does. However, the real story blew me away!

Trey’s issues began with his childhood. His family gives a new definition to dysfunctional. He had one saving grace in his life. His father destroyed it; sending a heartbroken, disillusioned young man on the run. Contrary to his upbringing, Trey begins a life of excess, in women and sex. He let’s no one in; cares for no one. His only goals in life are to start a new life, play his guitar and hide from his past. The story follows Trey Taylor through his experiences in L.A. and New York.

Life in New York takes a more positive turn. Trey meets Jack and Hunter from the band Devil’s Lair. After joining the band, Trey remains a puzzle to his band mates, but his life seems to be on an even keel; music, women and sex. Unexpectedly, the band’s popularity soars and Trey’s life is forever changed. An interview for Rolling Stone magazine places a woman in Trey’s life that throws his life plan off its axis. While he feels he is unworthy of happiness, fate plans to grab him by the heart. His past resurfaces, threatening the order he has fought so hard to preserve and the heart that he has tried so hard to harden.

Trey’s story is well crafted by Ms. Madden. His story is a rollercoaster of events in Trey's life. The reader’s emotions will be all over the spectrum. I found myself angry at the situations, smiling at the humor and smitten with Trey and his band family. I truly believe that Ms. Madden has found her stride and writing romantic suspense is definitely her element. I highly recommend Backstage, as well as the entire Back Up series.

I met Trey Taylor in the Back Up series and I knew he had to have some heavy secrets. He was quiet, sarcastic and he was the dirty talking bad boy that had a different woman every night. He didn't attach himself, his friends knew virtually nothing about him and he lived his life for himself. This made me know that this would be a great story to watch unfold. I was not prepared for the emotional journey I went on. Trey doesn't have secrets, he has fricken terrible secrets. I LOVED THIS BOOK! I laughed, I cried and I thought about this story even when I wasn't reading it. It twisted me up inside and made me feel such strong emotions.
The story starts out in Trey's teenage years, things happened and the events I read tore me up inside. It moves along to his POV to some situations I read in the backup series. I thought he was funny in those parts of the series but being in his head made it even better. The story took me to current time and after knowing what I know about him, I didn't look at him the same. I was able to feel his emotions, how he used his one liners to get out of sticky situations made me laugh out loud, but then I hurt for him at the same time. He still didn't trust anyone enough to let them in, to know the true Trey Taylor. Then he met her. The one who scrambled him inside. Yes, many stories have that element, but not like this. This was different. You will see when you read it. Trey needed to make some heavy decisions and I knew it would change him forever. How will Trey handle it? I strongly recommend you read it to find out.
This story unfolded flawlessly. Now that I understand Trey Taylor. I love him even more. I didn't think that was possible. Great book!

Backstage

Trey I have been waiting to get inside that head of yours!!! Once we do get to learn why Trey is the way he is, it explains so much. I knew something traumatic had to have happened in his past BUT I was not expecting what that secret was and I loved that, I love to be shocked while reading a book.

Backstage is told in three parts the past, devils lair, and the present. Part 1 was my favorite it is extremely emotional and we got to see a side of Trey we have never scene before. I was reading it and thought this is absolutely amazing writing and story telling. It is some of the best writing I have read in a long time. His past captivated me and I felt every emotion he went through.

I was shocked numerous times throughout the story and did not see things coming. Trey has not lead an easy life and and even has hurdles for his future. Tara has brought light back into his life, even after all the darkness from Treys past seeps into their present. This isn't just a Hot rockstar book or series it's so much more. You get so much story in each of the Back-Up series books. This is by far my favorite, AM Maddens writing keeps getting better with each book and I can't wait to see what she gives us next.

AMAZING STORY!

We first meet Trey Taylor in the Back-Up Series. He's the bass player in Devil's Lair and although we don't hear much about him in the series, you can't help but fall in love with his funny antics. We all knew he was closed off and had a dark side but what we didn't know was why!

From page 1 I was completely and utterly sucked into this story. I went from crying to laughing within a matter of a few pages, I went from being ready to throw my kindle and to hugging it closely. We see why Trey is the way he is, and trust me you will not see it coming!!

A.M. Madden has yet again blown me away. This is the perfect addition to the Back-Up series. We all thought we knew who Trey was... we were wrong! Get the tissues and Xanax ready for this one!!!

This book is amazing. I think it's my favorite of the series. Trey's story is heartbreaking. He piqued my curiosity in the 3 books previous to this one. He's so aloof and detached, hiding behind those sunglasses. Even through all the crude jokes and one liners Leila new there was more to the man than meets the eye.
Treys beginning is awful and it explains why is is the way he is. I loved getting to know the real Trey.

Trey's story will bring you to your knees. I laughed and cried and got so angry on Trey's behalf. This story is must read and brings all of the questions lingering about Trey to surface. I thought I loved Jack Lair as my ultimate BBF but Trey is right up there with him. Am Madden does a fantastic job of showing us the emotion in her writing. I swear I felt every emotion ever.
