Eden has never fit in. He hears words that have not been spoken, and can see flashes of futures that may never come to pass. Out of his time, place and comfort zone, Eden lives inside his head, constantly haunted by the idea that there is something else. Something more.
Running from those who would harm him, Eden breaks through a Divide believed only in myth and stories, and finds himself in another realm—a place, he soon discovers, he should have been in all along.
Finding friends, love and completion for the first time in his life, Eden starts to wake up to who he is and sets his feet firmly on a path he can never turn away from, with his tall beautiful warrior-elf lover always at his side
Hunted by those who would have his power, trying to hide from evil, Eden finds himself running through the realms in the hope he can escape his fate, lead the future down a path that will not see the worlds destroyed, and will keep Khari safe from a past that is raising its head once more.
This series tries really hard. It is definitely a product of a great deal of effort. In the end, though, I came away with the impression that the author was somewhat naive. I know these impressions are often in error, but it is what it is.
Basically, it is the usual story about the misunderstood kid who finds a way to a secret world. There he finds the fae, finds out he's super duper special, and finds his true love. All of this just happens with ease despite the supposed evil lurking in Fae.
As the story progressed it started to lose me. People paired up with remarkable regularity.. The cast of characters isn't huge, so they all very conveniently found soulmates within the inner circle.
The war was coming, they were planning and stuff. Then people started getting pregnant. What?
Because you know, the middle of a war is a GREAT time to have a baby! But of course nobody even mentioned timing. There was some grumbling that was immediately shut down in favor of the joys of new life. I got the feeling that the author was trying for an emotional boost, but I was just wondering how these magical healers couldn't come up with birth control.
This is apparently OK because fae females just drop babies in the woods and go on with life. The thing is that it is the amazing vulnerability involved in childbearing that makes it such an emotional time. This was kind of like having a stork drop one off.
Then it goes on to my most unfavorite fantasy trope. The "I must sacrifice myself to save my beloved" trope in which a character just delivers themselves to the enemy on demand without ever considering obvious consequences or alternatives. Or asking for help. Or doing any logical thing at all. Because the enemy tells them they have to. It is just the worst device out there and I can not figure why authors love it so much.
So overall, I spent a lot of it thinking that it just lacked much insight. I perceived a lot of it as being surrogate for the author's views on humanity, which is pretty negative, and image of a perfect society. But there wasn't much understanding of social systems or their evolution.
DNF @ 50%. It's a bad sign when you start skimming halfway through a book. I wanted to like this, I really did but... it was a bit too airy fairy for me (ha - pun!) There was rather too much: 'I want to lose myself in you," Khairi whispered, "and feel myself be a part of you." etc, etc ..and frankly, not enough fucking!
"You hate quests," Eden said, but sniffed a small laugh behind his hand. "Is a great quest as bad as a noble or heroic one?" "Oh, it's much worse," she said happily. "The great quests are the ones where legends are born."
Not the etheral elves regularly portrayed. Good story. Action Infused fight scenes. Humourous. Had me enthralled. Somewhat frustrated with Eden's decision and eager for the continuation.
I was lead Into the Woods by a lot of friends. They keep telling me I should try this story even I'm not that interested in fantasy.
I have to say I'm incredibly impressed. Kathleen Kerridge has created an awesome realm. There is nothing there that I'm familiar with. As I said, it's not my thing at all. Usually. Because if Ms Kerridge did something to me here, it's that she convinced me. She guided me through the woods, turned the light on as I stood in the Darkness. I would like to thank her for she has introduced me to her world.
The story itself, the characters, the sex scenes... it's written with beautiful words, great humour and lots of love. The only things that bother me are the scenes from Khari's past. A little too hard for my fragile heart. But it's worth it and is not written just to fill the pages. Khari's past has a role to play in the rest of the story.
I also have to say that I bought the sequel, The Call of The Dark, and I began it right after finishing this one.
Even if you don't usually read fantasy, this one is a must have.
Special note to the artist who made the cover : Jay Aheer. This is definitely a cover I won't forget. You can see her art here : https://www.facebook.com/JaysCoverDes...
All my favorites - fantasy, elves, suspense, warriors, lovers, magic - and an ending that will break your heart. This one will stay with me a while - thank heaven the next book is coming soon. Eden and Khari are wonderful characters, with a lovely story and an amazing connection. There is a bit of a mystery here, and I thought the reveal was well paced. I also loved all the supporting characters, although "supporting" might not be completely accurate. They were as fully a part of the story as Eden and Khari, and were a joy to read as well. Can't wait for December and book 2.
Great fantasy story. I was a little bit disappointed when the group crossed over into the human realm. I liked all of the characters who were well developed. The writing was smooth with only a few bumps in the road. Beware the cliff hanger ending.
Holy cow this was amazing!!! I absolutely loved every part, even when I was terribly upset (at the end) or laughing and blushing the brightest red I have ever been...I took every chance I had to read one more page and now I am about to start the second!
I’m just going to say it. I absolutely LOVED this book.
When we first meet Eden, he is being chased through the streets of a town in England by a gang of bullies. Bullies who are yelling taunts at him like faggot and Paki. For anyone that hasn’t lived in the UK for an extended time, the cultural reference might not click instantly like it did for me that Eden was brown. Regardless, what we have is a brown lad being chased into the woods by a gang of white British hoodlums. Previously this same gang has severely beaten Eden, to the point of broken bones. So as Eden always does, he runs into the woods, deeper than normal.
This time, something is different. Eden jumps over a stream and falls, cutting his hand. He jumps up and leans his bloody hand on a silver birch tree and suddenly he is elsewhere. He is in the land of the Fae. He has been dreaming of this land for years, and trying to get there, but has never succeeded before. His one true love has been calling for Eden to come to rescue him. But who is he? Where is he? How can a lone human survive in the land of the Fae, when his very presence is cause for his death?
Ms. Kerridge takes us on a wild romp, full of dark and light elves, magic and gods. Will Eden win through past the evil lord of the dark elves to rescue his love? Will he find out who and what he really is? I could go on and on and on. But I won’t. If you a lover of fantasy, this is the next book you need to read. As for me? I’m off to read the next book, because it is already on my Kindle and burning a hole through it as we speak! One warning, book one ends in a cliffhanger, so pick up both!

I read the description, not expecting to be taken on the craziest adventure I haven't had in a long, long time. When I first picked up this book, I figured it would become another in the many that I have bought and finished quickly without so much as another thought onto the next one (I'll be completely honest, I love the books I've read, but I read at a constant pace, so being completely enraptured every time? Almost impossible.) It's not often that I find myself leaving a review for a book, unless I am completely and utterly in love with it. This book is adventure, romance, suspense, and humor inside a dark world balled into one huge tale. Though there are small mistakes every now and then within the writing that should have been hashed out a bit better by the editor, it is one book that I will ever forget. Eden, Khari, Alex, Takana, Cole, Airell, Elnara, everyone in this series had me loving them to pieces! (Spoiler)Even the ones that unfortunately were taken too early. I can't wait to read the next book in the series (even though the end had me broken hearted and begging for a tissue to cry myself to sleep with). I'm not one for a lot of angst in a book. I'm a human being, I can only handle so much anxiety in one sitting! However, regardless of this, I flipped through this book faster than I would have liked! I'm eagerly downloading the next book as fast as I can now!
Great writing, equally great story. The plot, the characters, the writing; just to mention some things are very engaging. For all of you who don't mind cliffhanger endings, dark roads to travel and dramatic plots, I highly recommend reading this.
Stopped reading at 55%. Reason why in the spoiler.
Ok, let me blow my nose and dry my eyes before I write this review. That was emotionally draining, in the best possible way. I loved the cast of characters and the way the relationships kind of just appeared, when the time was right, like destiny. There were a few grammatical errors and some misspellings, however, they were not enough to detract from the fancy and beauty of the story. Ok, if you want an emotional rollercoaster ride that will leave you clawing for the sequel, then read this. Enough said book two is waiting for me, by Orion's blood, I can't keep them waiting.
I wanted to post a review on the first book before I finished the second. I tried so hard to not buy the second book, frankly I couldn't afford it at this time. But Into the Woods is a fantastic read. Epic in every way, which is being proved over and over again as I read book two. Kathleen Kerridge has done an excellent job starting out in the human realm, leading into the realm of the Fae. As the charaters stories unfold they come to life. Love is found and lost, all is so far from right it will make you want to cry. I end my review for now as I don't want to review both books as one. They are so much more than just a story...
I just ..... this book is just.... I can't.... Speechless, just speechless. This book is so amazing. The relationships, the growing, learning, experiencing, pain, loss, healing, loving, romance, new life, this book is just filled with emotions and is just simply amazing. Going to start reading the second book right now.... to finish reading it really fast... and to sit here upset because the third book is not out yet.
This book left me speechless after reading it, it is an amazing book, bought the first and second book on kindle and paperback... please read it.
So much potential. But while the fantasy part was really good, the romance was somewhat lackluster. Insta, forever love, no angst, no relationship drama. The whole book is concentrated on the war between Light and Dark Fae.
And, btw, the king of the Dark Fae is the most atrocious being ever. The things he put his sons through...**shudders** I hope his end is slow and extra-painful.
Really really hard to read at times. But worth it if you can get past the rape/child abuse. I was moved to tears several times. And I liked the author's perspective of the alternate dimension and the fae. Oh and it's a cliffhanger. I hate that. But I need to finish this . I have to know what happened to Eden. I'll definitely read the next book.
I can't believe the ending, it was too abrupt for the love story that this book represents. I know that book 2 is out but still what an abrupt stop to an otherwise great story. My only other complaint is the use of "aint" and the few other awkward sentences that pulled me away from the flow of the story.
Oh boy! What can I say? What an amazing start to such an awe inspiring story. Beautifully written and so imaginative, you're compelled to keep reading. The only down point...Is that it had a last page! The story line, the character names and places worked so well together, you can't help but fall in love with them all. Definitely worthy of five stars or more. Beautiful work!
This is a two part book with 300 plus pages. The first part was good but the second part was great. I really enjoyed the characters and the quest. It ends at the start of a new quest but since the original ones are complete I didn't consider it a cliffhanger.
If I could I would give this book 10*'s. The writing was wonderful to read, hardly any typos which lately isn't the norm! I must read, and WILL be placed on my tbra list. Highly, highly recommended! Highly! Happy reading!
5 STARS For all hardcore fantasy lovers, this M/M series reminded me of slowly woven stories which I feel will take a few books to complete. It is slow going in a few places but I loved it. Onto book #2 :)
