The End was not a Zombie apocalypse but a Vampire one.

Ever wonder what happens after the world ends?

Lilanoir Rue did, a mere by product of the destruction, she never knew what happened before hand either. No longer just a human with fangs, she is banished from the only place she called home, the Human Reservation. She wipes her tears and never looks back.

In a world gone dead, life has never been so good, for some. While others live in chaos, the chosen call Sanguis City home. The rich and powerful found a way to survive The End and enjoy every minute of it, for eternity. On the brink of a gruesome death from starvation, disease or a hungry zombie, humans flock there to sell their blood for peace and security.

The city of blood, made for and by vampires, welcomes Noir; her kind are in high demand. New vampires, the ones who bought immortality, need a loyal workforce. Neither Human nor Vampire, Bleeders take care of the city in the daylight. Draining humans by day and dating Vampires at night leaves Noir little time to think about her past, or much else, until it finds her.

Noir never dreamed her fangs would be the ticket to the good life, but three years in the city has earned her a promising future, career and, just maybe, a love life. But when she falls for her charmingly sexy Professor, an Authentic Vampire, she also falls into a web of nightmares. Does she really know anything about the real Vampires or about the city she now calls home? Unable to escape painful memories, she uncovers more than her own secrets. Quickly her dystopian paradise starts crashing down around her, and some secrets just won't stay dead, and others are bound to kill her before finals week. Ending up in bed with a monster, in more ways than one, might not be as bad as she had imagined.

Sanguis City by Morgan Jane Mitchell
Taste the paranormal and get bitten!!!

I was given a copy from the author in exchange for an honest review.

After reading the amazing blood thirsty Morgan Jane prequels, I was ecstatic to get my hands on the latest novel.

The great stories previously written left the doors wide open for something special ahead- mind-blowing!!! A gripping book has been crafted by Morgan Jane in Sanguis City and you just want to be in that Gothic place of vamps. A super storyline and good descriptive writing embraces the magnificent characters throughout the tale.

The reader cannot help but be dragged into Noir's world and the originality of the plot with it's wrong-doings, sins and sex. Well, it's all there... the vamps, bleeders, sucking and much more!

Get into Sanguis City and it's sexy romance, taste the paranormal and get bitten.

A strong 5*****
Loved it and would thoroughly recommend to anyone with an imagination.

As many of my followers remember, vampire stories are just not usually what I enjoy. There has to be some life angst, story lines that reach out and grab me and hold on and a lot more to the plot than blood sucking. This story is one of the few that was able to give me what I wanted.

Noir's life is basically a mess to be honest. The End had come, she had to leave her mother and reservation to go to the city and try to make a living and survive there. Working with humans and vampires, Noir had to find a balance when it came to understanding and compassion, but one thing she could never over come was her need to protect the people she loved and cared about. She was called to do what was right and she risked a lot to save the lives of the innocent.

Knowing her loved ones from the reservation were probably dead now, she tried to carry on and live within the rules of the city. Knowing one day she was going to have to find the answers she was seeking, she wasn't aware of what she would have to give up in exchange for the answers. She needs to get rid of the mark that the vampire she escaped from had left on her. To do this, it was going to force her into a relationship that was really no better than what she left. Now being connected to a vampire that she had no clue of the extend of his power, she was reduced to doing the dirty work of the head vampire in order to save the love of her life. Unfortunately, when coming face to face with him, she didn't see the man she loved, she saw an animal who wanted to kill her in his place.

Noir was blessed, or cursed with the unique power that she didn't realize she had. She had been accused of murder, the deaths of people she loved. Could it be true that she was the one who killed them? Did her unknown power actually make her into the convict she was accused of being? When she is faced with the reality of what happen, she is going to have to make a decision to either hide or accept this power and use it for what she felt was a good and just cause.

This story is well written and the characters are so developed I don't see how you can't allow your heart to become involved while reading. Every time we think Noir was going to find a way to be happy, the End changed the path for her. She is a very strong woman, who knows right from wrong and isn't willing to sacrifice her morals and beliefs for the proper callings of the newly built society. She had always been an outsider, even on the reservation and she had every right to be bitter and resentful, but that isn't the Noir we were introduced to. This Noir believes in love, justice, truth and protecting those who can't protect themselves.

The flow of the story is quick and steady. I never once felt like I struggled because the book stalled. For someone who hasn't been to interested in vampire stories, this one gave me so much more that the routines and practices of the vampire culture only added to the story and didn't distract from the plot for me. I would highly recommend this book to my friends who are like me, the "never understood Twilight fame" because this will give you a true feel for human character and behavior.

It reads like a soap opera, so many things going on at once, yet so easy to visualize and understand. I am so very honored that I not only am able to review this book, but that I was a beta reader for this author. I look forward to finding out what Noir is going to do with her wish she was granted at the end of the book. It was a cliff hanger that left you wanting more, yet didn't break your heart and reduce you to tears as you wait for the next installment.

Sanguis City offered a pretty unique look into the world of vampires, at least the world created after vampires became its master. Let me start by saying that I loved this book. Morgan Jane's ability to world build was exceptional. In most books I read, the history of the unique worlds is shoved down the reader's throat from the beginning. It feels like drinking from a fire hose. Instead, Morgan drops just enough hints about the history of the vampire's rise to power to leave you wanting so much more. Subtlety is often a lost art form in modern novels and Morgan truly excels in this arena.

From the start of the book, Sanguis City seemed like an erotica novel. Since that's not a preferred genre for me, I nearly stopped reading. However, I had a distinct advantage of being able to talk to the author directly and was reassured that the sex was an advancement of the story and not the focus. She was absolutely correct. The sex was well done without dominating the story.

The story itself focuses on a stratified society, with vampires at the top, bleeders (a cross between vampires and humans) in the middle, and humans assuming the lowest caste. The humans serve as a food source for the vampires and gladly submit to regular bleedings for the honor of living within the walled extravagance that is Sanguis City. The way Morgan created the city itself seemed very reminiscent of the world of Blade Runner. Since much of the story takes place at night, when the vampires were awake, the city was full of extravagant neon-lit nightclubs and people dressed far better than their environment would require.

In a realm dominated by beautiful immortals, Noir is a unique bleeder. Raised by humans, she seems far more connected to her humanity than virtually all other of her kind. Throughout the novel, the reader is introduced the a number of hardships that Noir has to overcome, to include Zombies (not what you expect), malicious vampires, shapeshifters, and pheromones (which sometimes are more dangerous than someone trying to kill her).

If you love the supernatural, I highly recommend this book. It's a fantastically unique take on the vampire genre.

First off I would like to thank Morgan Jane Mitchell for providing me with an ARC copy of Sanguis City in exchange for an honest review.

Well, what can I say about Sanguis City? Not a lot other than I seriously LOVE this book.

This is a paranormal romance like no other and the smexy scenes will leave you needing more than a few cold showers. This book has indeed earned the name SinfullySexy!

Noir is my kinda girl. Her life is a mess and she’s far from perfect, in other words she’s real and I think this is why I connected with her so well. There’s that and the fact she may or may not remind me of me, in my younger days going from one disaster to another (hangs head). My life sure wasn’t boring and neither is Noir’s. Talk about flying by the seat of your pants!

I loved the storyline and at times I wanted to hide my Kindle because the suspense was too much but I couldn’t put it down because I needed to know that everything was going to be ok! OMG talk about keeping you on the edge of your seat. But then Morgan would switch it and you’d find yourself actually laughing out loud or in the middle of some HOT passion. This book grabs you and refuses to let you go until you've reached the other side. Even then you’re still lost in the City of Sanguis.

Noir is as far from predictable as you can get and that just makes the storyline all the more enjoyable.
I loved everything about the book from the storyline, the way the books just flows, the scenes and how they flawlessly move from one to another.

Oh look, I’ve not mentioned the leading man…………. Well there’s more than one man in Noir’s life. At one point she’s asked who she loves and the response had me laughing, she said it how I was thinking it! Who does she end up with; well you’ll have to read the book to find out. You won’t be disappointed.

Morgan has set the foundation well for more books in the series, this book leaves you satisfied while still wanting more.

Lilanoir (Noir) was raised with humans although she is not quite human herself. The world as we know it has ended, and vampires are primarily ruling the cities. Noir never fit in with the human colony she was raised in because of her fangs, but in the city- she is what is known as a "bleeder" something between human and vampire. She is enjoying her new life working her way through college in the healthcare profession when she starts learning things about the world that make her question everything.

This book was a great blend of paranormal/urban fantasy/dystopian, and erotica. Noir is struggling with her strong attraction to certain vampires (and another bleeder). She isn't sure where her feelings really lie, and what is due to her reaction to pheromones. Her boyfriend turns out to be not quite what she thought, and as she learns too much about herself and the world she lives in she has to decide who she can rely on and who she can trust. We are left after some pretty exciting revelations are made, and I am eager to find out more about all the characters, and learn more about the world they live in and how Noir is going to use the new information she has about herself and deal with some of the predicaments she finds herself in when this installment ends.

The author does a great job of building a world that is unique, and has a pretty fresh and interesting spin on all the vampire stuff. I'm really looking forward to seeing how this story continues when the next in the series comes out.

This was a unique spin on the dystopian vampire concept, a dark world where vampires work with a hybrid breed of daylight-functioning ‘bleeders’ while humans are just lucky to be alive. Noir is a bleeder, fanged but not a vampire, and she’s about to have a rude awakening when it comes to everything she thought she knew of both her past and present.

Noir lives a pretty complicated life. Raised a bleeder among humans, she never really learned how to be like the vampires that run her world. She’s one of those people who never feel like they fit in anywhere, and you can’t help but feel sorry for her position. But Sanguis City was the opportunity she needed in life, the chance to be around other bleeders who are valued for their ability to function during the day while the vamps have to hide from the sunlight. There, she was making a life for herself and even enjoying the excitement of her steamy relationship with professor and boyfriend Aubrey, an older vamp who both fascinated and baffled her. But everything wasn’t as it seemed in her life, and as she slowly uncovered the betrayals and twisted truths behind the veil of her world, the reader learns how Noir’s past has come back to haunt her.

With an intriguing urban fantasy feel, Sanguis City takes the reader to a world that is as unforgiving as it is laden with lust and primal needs. It was a tangled web Noir worked her way through, trying to figure out who she could trust and how she’d save some of herself in such a vicious world. Between Noir’s dreams and her memories from the past, there were many points where we’re suddenly thrown into a new scene or different time without any distinction of when it starts and ends, so the storyline was hard to follow at times. I liked the concept, but not the way it was just tossed into the mix without any clarification of what was going on. Noir was a difficult character for me as well; generally speaking, I prefer there to be a clear love interest for the main characters so I can grab on to the emotions they feel. Noir has several different men she’s either claiming to love or sharing some super-steamy moments with, and it just got to be too much for me. Don’t get me wrong, I love a good lust-filled romp as much as the next gal, but I would have preferred Noir wasn’t so fickle.

As a whole, this was an original and captivating story, and readers who are looking for something beyond the traditional paranormal romance storyline may really enjoy this. It wasn’t for me, but I can say there’s definitely an audience out there who’d love it.

Quotes:

Sometimes, I stuck out like a sore thumb. My ginger hair was rebellious, always slapping me in the face. The fact that I was rarer than Siamese twins didn’t change when I came here. All children that had been given the vaccine and showed the side effect, the bleeders, had been taken away from their human parents and raised by vampires. Then later by older bleeders, all except me. ~Loc 222

Hell, she never let me call her mother. Marianne wouldn’t stand by me when I was only her daughter with fangs. She certainly wouldn’t support me when I was accused of ripping the head off her step daughter. ~Loc 855

Quixon cocked his head, and I realized my blunder. He was just doing his job, but here I thanked him. The smart ass would want something now. Three years in the city hadn’t taught me a thing. ~Loc 1418

“Yes, I like the flowers. And just like a human, my smile is an involuntary response to happiness. It doesn’t only mean I want to get laid.”~ Loc 1659

“We all can control our blood flow, some better than others.”
Vampires never ceased to amaze me.
“Why Noir, do you other lovers not measure up?” His voice was strained and sexy as he hit me with another thrust causing a low moan to rip from my throat. ~Loc 2921

How do you survive The End?

Become a Doomsday Prepper? No? Um, okay. How about if you're rich and powerful? Meh. Not really. Well. How about if you're a smexy Bleeder named Lilanoir Rue, a cross between vampire and human who is a product of her environment and a byproduct of the world’s destruction and she's pretty much amazing? Yes! You get an internet high five.

Yes, I just internet high-fived myself. :D

Another vampire novel, Maria? You went there?

Dern skippy I went there.

Don’t fight it. Just let it happen.

Sanguis City is not your average vampire novel, ladies and gentlemen. There’s no brooding female needing to get bitten to confirm her life. There's no super hot vamp--Oh, wait. Yes, there's that. But you'll like that part. Trust me.

What we have in this book is Noir. And she’s pretty much a hot mess. You will love her for that, because I certainly did. The author made her seem relatable in a genre that is sometimes difficult to relate to. Noir has always been an outsider; she should be brooding. She should be bitter and resentful. But she's none of that. She's looking for love and justice and does what she has to do to find both.

The book wasn't difficult for me to get into at all. I point this out because I am pretty jaded from the mass amount of paranormal and fantasy on the market these days.

Sanguis City is one of those stories you don't just read, you become involved emotionally and physically (yes, physically . . . just . . . I can't say why just, I mean, you have to read it). The main characters are developed well, and there is just the right amount of development in the supporting characters to make you not question what's going on or why this or that is happening. There is so much going on in this novel, and the author lays out the story in a way that is just brilliant and enjoyable. I cannot wait until the next book.

Oh, right. I didn't mention. This is definitely going to be a series.

Yes, there’s a cliffhanger. Yes, you’re going to be sad about the cliffhanger. But you know what? You’re going to pull your big girl panties up, belt those bad boys and hang on for the next installment with a smile on your face.

See what I did there? A little positivity for you in these dark times of cliffhangers.

When I read the prequels to this book earlier this year, I was so excited for this book to come out I didn’t want to wait for it! But like all authors, Morgan made me wait (I’m still holding that against her btw). I have to say though; the wait for this book was worth it to me completely! The twists and turns that happened in this book kept me on the edge of my seat at many parts.

And of course there were parts that made me want to be sick! Trust me, when you get to that part you will feel the same way. But even still, that didn’t take away from the book at all; it added another layer onto the city that we wouldn’t have seen. The world, even more the city that Morgan created in this book was done extremely well. There were enough details that you could see what was going on, but they also didn’t overload you.

I enjoyed being able to learn more about Noir in this story as well. I’m unsure as to my feelings for her because she seems to bounce back and forth too much for my liking. With everything that is going on in her life, she doesn’t seem to have a clear idea about her personal life at all and keeps putting herself in harm’s way. The other characters in the book didn’t seem completely developed in my opinion, but they were still written well. I liked the interaction that she had with each of them, and you could tell they each had their own personalities. I just felt like there could have been more added to them to understand completely about them.

Overall although I am completely over cliffhangers, and yes this book has one, I was quite happy with how the book went along and I can’t wait to read the next one in the series!

Rating: 4
Main Characters: 4
Secondary Characters: 4
Steam Level: 4
Storyline/Plot: 4.5 – Unique & Action Packed
Genre: Paranormal/Urban Fantasy
Cover: 3.4 - doesn't really do the book justice
Ending: cliffy, part of a series

Wow this book had alot of things going on so where do I start. First let me say that Sanguis City was a welcomed detour from all the New Adult I have been reading lately. This book is a mixture of Paranormal Romance and Urban Fantasy which are two of my favorite Genres. It had the prefect blend of sexy scenes and on-the-edge-of-your-seat action.

Morgan done an amazing job of keeping you on your toes. The storyline was unpredictable and kept you guessing from page to page. Not only did you have non-stop action but their were times that had me LOL with all my family looking at me like was crazy.

The story was written so well the characters sort of floated off the page. Noir was a mess and had so much going wrong with her life that you felt her pain and struggles. There was also a variety of sexy men to root for. Morgan done an amazing job of keeping you on the fence concerning who's side you where on.

There where so much going on in this story but it flowed together so flawlessly that you didn't get overwhelmed. I was so engrossed in what happens next that the story was over before I even realized. While the book did end in a cliffhanger it wasn't one that made you want to murder the author..lol It just made you wan't to hold her hostage, chained to her computer, writing 24 hours a day until the next book is finished..lol I thoroughly enjoyed Sanguis City and I am anxiously awaiting the next book in the series.

Sanguis City by: Morgan Jane Mitchell 5 Page turning stars

“Well take it from me, all great love stories end in tragedy.”

Noir is a bleeder which in short in a vampire half-ling. She lived on a reservation ran by humans when she is forced to flee to the city. Three years go by and she has an up and coming career, a hot vampire boyfriend Aubrey, who happens to be her professor. Everything seems to be going well when Aubrey disappears and everything start to unravel. Vampires start showing up dead and no one knows how, they are supposed to be the undead. In a world where Bleeders run the city by day and vampires by night and with new virus popping up, will Noir and the people she loves survive?

Aubrey used his body to bend me over his desk, and I found myself face down, my naked body draped over the hard surface as Aubrey moved my long hair again to kiss down my back. Using his legs to spread mine apart farther, Aubrey took my hips in his hands and demanded in a deep hungry voice, “Say you’re mine.”

I do not even know where to start with this book. It had so much going on. It had my on the edge of my seat trying to see what is going to happen with Noir next. There is plenty of chemistry between Noir and the leading men, and yes I say me, because there is more than one in her life. The sex scenes are fantastic. This story has drama, plot twist, and nail biting suspense. I cannot wait until the next book to see what happens next with Noir.

The beautiful vampire grabbed my neck and squeezed. “You do my mother no honor. She has been replaced with a Halfling whore. My father being bound to you for eternity makes me want to vomit blood.”

Wow, sexy vampires galore! There is so much about this book that I loved, I don't even know where to start with this review. Holy hottness there are so many sexy men in this book! Who to choose, who's my favorite? There was something I loved about each character, so it is so so hard (pun intended) to choose just one. The sex in this book was fangfuckingtastic. And yeah I said fang, because the vampire sex has left me with a feeling of whoa! Move over Sookie Stackhouse and Eric Northman, and the rest of the True Blood gang. There is a new vampire series in town and I am getting on the bus to Sanguis City! This is a must read! This book releases soon and trust me when I say you don't want to miss it!
In the Sanguis City prequels I was introduced to Noir and her life before Sanguis City. Sanguis City takes place three years later and Noir has adjusted to the new life in a new city. But there is much that she has yet to discover in her three years. Did she pursue a relationship with Tombs? Did she ever find Crow, is he dead? What is the deal with Sander? These are questions that are answered and so much more. No I am not telling you, I don't want to be a spoil sport. So much happens in this book that has left me eagerly awaiting what Noir will face in the next book. And which hot piece of vampire will she be with???
Now getting back to sexy town. The men of Sanguis City Tombs, Aubrey, Sander, Quixon! And a few others. I know who my favorites are but I can't give it all away you will have to read to find out!

Morgan Jane Mitchell has made a serious impact with her debut, full-length novel. On me, anyway. It's always great to see a new author come along who actually knows how to write. Some may laugh that I take note of how an author writes, but with the substandard writing that is currently on the market, I must compliment Ms. Mitchell for her professionalism and abilities.

That said, the story itself was superb as well. I confess that the sex scenes were the highlight for me. Not only for the obvious reasons, but I also feel that was where she excelled as far as interaction between the characters. A fair amount of the book focuses around Noir giving details of how the mechanics of being a vampire or bleeder in a strange environment works, and I accept that was a necessary part of the story so the reader can understand how things are in her strange world. She kept it interesting and I enjoyed it. What a great imagination to pass along to the reader!

To give five stars on her debut novel suggests that she can't or won't do any better. This is a great start to her career, but I think the best is yet to come and I anxiously await more novels from her. Sanguis City is an extremely entertaining and gripping read. I can see she is a dedicated writer and has much more to offer the writing and reading world.

OMG!
Sanguis City is unlike any other paranormal, suspense romance I have ever read.
The pace is flawless and even with all of the information you are given, it's presented in such a way... It just flows.
There are characters you will love. There are characters you will hate. There are characters you will feel for. There are characters you'll want to just go away. But they are so well developed, you can't help but want to know more.
I'm trying to be spoiler free, but there's so much I want to talk about.
Sanguis City is captivating, intriguing, sexy, and heart wrenching at times.
Vampires, zombies, shifters, witches, bleeders, and humans all collide in Sanguis City.
If you are a paranormal fan, you do not want to miss this amazing kickoff to what is certain to be a thrilling series.
It's brilliance.
My only complaint is when the hell do I get book 2?!?!

A whirlwind of awesome awaits you! August 30, 2013
I love my vampires, & now the "bleeders" too!
Sanguis City is different from nearly all of the vampire books I have read lately (in a very good way). A paranormal romance with a dystopian feel but different still ... a whole new way to think of things!

Welcome to 'The Nova Vita' or 'The New Life'. The simple fact is I have not been able to put this book down.

I don't like to give spoilers & ruin the story for you, so I will simply tell you that this book, it's characters, & the whirlwind of awesome that Mitchell spins is bound to blow your mind!

Grab your copy & begin the adventure NOW!

This book is a must read if you love vampires and urban fantasy. Where can I sign up to move to Sanguis City. Noir has a lot of things she is juggling in her life, and there is no shortage of hot men either. I was not sure who was what or who they said they were. This book kept me guessing and I loved every second of it. This was action packed and the author did not skimp on the hot sexy scenes, I felt like I was in the moment with Noir, the scenes played out so vividly in my head as I read. I can not wait to see where the author takes Noir in the next installment.

I loved that this book had a lot of everything. Mystery is the number one thing I liked about reading this. It was odd that being raised by humans was, on average, OK and then she was completely shun! I am wondering if her mother knows something that everyone else doesn't. I would like to find out more information on that background. Also, I was blown away with her finding out a personal secret about herself. I saw it coming but I loved it anyways. I am certain it will play a huge role in the next book. Looking forward to more.

Dammit. I'm so mad that I read this so far in advance before the next book comes out. I absolutely loved this book. Some more description on the guys wouldn't hurt. Depending on whats really going on with Sander he sounds like a nice catch and an even better lay. I'm dying to know the truth about Aubrey and whats really going on with Quixon.

so I thought this book was ok. The storyline could use some work. I wasn't a big fan of Noir she seemed to wishy washy. I mean she is supposed to be a bleeder raised by humans and has a hot vamp boyfriend. but she was eager to jump into bed with anyone forgetting she loved another.

The main idea is good it is just bad execution ..

The writing was not neat and tidy I struggled to understand the charachters and the world building but it could be the first book in a series curse .so I am hopeful the next book will be better written ..

From the very first page all the way till the last I enjoyed this read. It moves along at a great pace which made for an easy read. It has interesting characters that you want to know more about and by the end you are loving them. This book needs to be at the top of you list of books to read, you will not be sorry that you did, as it will grab you and keep you reading.

Vampires have always been my supernatural character of choice. Ever since I read Bunnicula as a child and then continuing on with Buffy the Vampire Slayer, I have been hooked. After the the finish of the Sookie Stackhouse novels, I have been searching for a new vampire series to sink my teeth into and Sanguis City is the perfect type!

I read both prequels before starting the actual novel and they really piqued my interest . They both have beautiful covers, check them out!! Also they are currently free on AMAZON: http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_nos...

Noir is a bleeder who lives quite a good life in the vampire world. She has the fangs but is able to work during the day. Her kind is in high demand in Sanguis City and she gets to live a pretty stable life because of it. Except she falls in love with an older vampire, as a character she is sort of a mess which made me enjoy her even more. She runs from crazy situation to yet another disaster. Her story kept me guessing and in suspense a good portion of the time.

I would recommend this book to all vampire lovers and any adult paranormal readers.
