Kate Frost has wanted to be an author ever since she wrote her first novel during the long months she spent off school following open heart surgery when she was seven. The novel was called London's Burning and was a time travel story set during the Great Fire of London.
Over the years Kate has worked in a cinema, a bookshop, a factory and as a part time lecturer at Bath Spa University teaching lifewriting to Creative Writing undergraduates. She's also worked as ground staff at Edgebaston Tennis Tournament, as a Virgin Vie consultant and as a Supporting Artist in the films Vanity Fair, King Arthur and The Duchess.
Kate has a MA in Creative Writing from Bath Spa University and has had articles and short stories published in The London Magazine, New Welsh Review and QWF. She now works as a freelance writer/author and lives in the UK with her husband, her son and their dog.
Lola arrives at her friend’s wedding festivities rather discombobulated because of many things going on. Rhys, attending the same wedding has his own messes to sift through. Together they form a pact but can they see it through. I thought the best thing for both was not rushing into anything and also for Rhys to do his sabbatical. The ending is good because it shows sometimes the way forward is stepping off into the abyss of unknown taking the risk that it will all work out. Thanks NetGalley and Boldwood Books for the early copy.
I seem to have fallen in love with falling in love in the pages. I found this to be a pleasant story of Rhys and Lola navigating through a love pact to just get through a 10-day wedding. This isn't a rom-com where things go terribly wrong; it's a mature and so endearing story of two people who have lost themselves due to other people.
One thing I adored about this book, the narrator. I love listening to Mira Dovreni narrate, and one thing I noted was that you could hear her smile when she was reading the book. She was just like me, smiling as we watched two people fall in love with each but more importantly...themselves. They were a product of what had happened to them, and they just couldn't see it until they saw it in each other.
Not going to lie, the cover drew me in and then knowing I had an audiobook to listen to was second. The story is what won me over, and the writing sealed the deal. Kate drew on everyday experiences. The longing, the lust, the closeness of people. She gave them a couple of roadblocks for sure, but this book could be real life; it wasn't far-fetched and unbelievable, it wasn't what you just saw in the movies. I felt this could be a real experience, and for that reason, I just adored it. I just didn't like my namesake!! LOL.
Now I must go, I have a holiday to Sardinia to book!!
I really enjoyed this book!!!! i liked the wedding setting, and the fact that it was on a different timeline (here only 10 days pass by in the book). I t made the story go at the right pace, because we could see them connect with each other. The story was mature, and i liked how the plot went! I would recommend this book if you love a cute romcom story, it was really good :)
Thank you Netgalley for the early copy of this book in exchange for a honest review! :)
This book was EXACTLY what I needed to start the summer! With a breathtaking setting and loveable characters, I felt like I was with them in a gorgeous Sardinian villa enjoying the views and finding love!
Lola finally escaped a soul-crushing, emotionally abusive relationship and has no interest in jumping into another one. But her meddling friends think otherwise, and she’s had enough of their matchmaking attempts. When she heads to Sardinia from London for her best friend’s wedding, dread comes along.
Rhys is going to the same wedding as the groom’s best friend, also with some dread. His ex-girlfriend is now dating one of his friends and, although he doesn’t want her back (she’s a total selfish B), he’s learned some unpleasant truths and feels the sting.
When Lola and Rhys escape a party for some fresh sea air, they bond over their problems and a fake relationship is born! If they’re an item, her friends will get off her back and he can move on and distract himself. Only they both feel the connection between them, the attraction, the ease of conversation….
I adored Lola and Rhys—two genuinely lovely people with some baggage but so much to give. The author brilliantly had them muddle through their emotions, minds, and issues to grow and develop beautifully. Lola’s confidence struggled so much after the way her ex destroyed her, and Rhys helped her build it back up. He needed a confidence boost himself, and Lola returned the favor, showing him how wonderful he was.
They were both so self-aware and actively trying to figure themselves out, and I loved how they opened up to each other and each truly cared about the other. They had fantastic chemistry (no real steam though, mostly fade to black).
The book left me with such a warm, cozy feel and a smile as I finished it. Highly recommend!
Thank you to @theboldbookclub and @netgalley for my advance copy. All thoughts and opinions are mine.
This is the second book by Kate Frost that I have read, and I am thoroughly enjoying her captivating storytelling and distinctive writing style. She expertly transports readers to stunning and exotic locales, places that often reside only in our dreams.
The story unfolds as a heartwarming read, set against picturesque backdrops that truly capture the essence of island life. Themes of healing and self-discovery resonate throughout the story, lending an uplifting quality to the experience. Lola Wild has finally escaped from a soul-crushing, emotionally abusive relationship, leaving her disinterested in the prospect of jumping into another romance any time soon. However, her well-meaning but meddlesome friends seem determined to set her up, and their constant matchmaking attempts increasingly exasperate Lola.
As she travels from bustling London to the sun-soaked shores of Sardinia for her best friend Mirabel's wedding, a sense of dread accompanies her. She’s apprehensive about facing her past in a setting meant for celebration, passion and love.
At the same wedding, Rhys Strickland, who is the groom’s best friend, shares in Lola’s feelings of unease. His ex-girlfriend has begun dating one of his closest friends, adding to his discomfort. In a fortuitous twist of fate, Lola and Rhys find themselves escaping a lively party to catch some fresh sea air. This moment sparks a genuine connection as they bond over their shared troubles, leading to the unexpected creation of a fake relationship.
I particularly enjoyed witnessing the two groups of friends gradually get to know each other, as well as the delightful preparations of Mirabel and Fabs for their impending nuptials. Frost has crafted a fabulous ensemble of characters, each adding depth to the storyline, set against a gorgeous backdrop that enhances the romantic atmosphere. Overall, it's an immensely enjoyable and entertaining story that leaves a lasting impression.
Thank you to NetGalley and Boldwood Books for providing this advanced reader copy (ARC).
The Island of Hopes and Dreams enchanted me, lifted my spirits, and reminded me of the importance of friends. The story is wholesome but also includes past trauma that affects both main characters, Lola Wild and Rhys Strickland. Both are single, having not been in relationships in some time, however, the phantoms of their latest breakup threaten them from around every corner. .
Lola unceremoniously left her ex after realizing his controlling nature. Unfortunately, she didn't leave before he broke her spirit, obliterated her confidence, and created a chasm between her and her family and friends. Lola's friends are well-meaning but continue to pressure her to find love. She's not allowed herself to open up nor is she willing to look for love, despite her friends' attempts. Her best friend, Mirabel's, wedding in Sardinia is a chance to escape the oppressive atmosphere, relax, unwind, and celebrate. If only that were true.
Rhys was left broken-hearted by someone he loved. He's spend the last few months trying to come to terms with the end of the relationship. However, who he thought was the love of his life is part of his friend group. He now has to be around her during the pre-wedding and wedding festivities. The time spent in Sardinia to celebrate Fabs' marriage to Mirabel is supposed to be special but revelations regarding his ex and one of his friends attempts to spoil the celebration.
Lola and Rhys are drawn to one another. When they find solace away from one of the first events of the week, it's unknowingly at the same location. A connection is made and, in an effort for Lola to get her friends off her back, and for Rhys to try and mask his unease, they form a fake relationship.
I absolutely adored The Island of Hopes and Dreams. While significantly focusing on Lola and Rhys, there are other themes threaded throughout the book. There is the wedding, of course, but even that comes with issues. I love the union of both friend groups and how they get along. The author wrote a wonderful story of learning to work through the past so it doesn't affect your present or future. The characters were perfectly crafted, three-dimensional, and created with depth, personality, and purpose. The setting was well-described, providing a very romantic atmosphere. This story is entertaining and I was engaged from the very beginning.
Kate Frost’s The Island of Hopes and Dreams is a gorgeous escapist tale that tugs at the heartstrings and soothes the soul.
Lola Wild knows that her friends and family mean well, but she’s grown tired and weary of their match-making attempts. At her best friend Mirabel’s hen weekend, Lola knows that she has to do something to change the course of her life, but in the meantime she’s looking forward to going to Sardinia for the wedding, switching off, topping up her tan and spending time with her nearest and dearest and hoping that nobody mentions relationships, dating apps or her single status. However, the Sardinian wedding brings her into contact with fellow guest Rhys Strickland, who has problems of his own to contend with…
It doesn’t take long for the two of them to bond over mutual ground and a friendship blossoms between Lola and Rhys as they attempt to put old ghosts to rest and draw a line under their respective pasts As a spark ignites between them, will they find the strength and courage to grasp this unexpected chance at a future together with both hands? Or will past hurts and never forgotten demons end up putting paid to any hope the two of them had of starting afresh?
In The Island of Hopes and Dreams, Kate Frost gets under her characters’ skins and has penned a tender, emotional, dramatic yet uplifting tale about two people finding themselves, fighting for what they truly want and deserve and falling in love in the most unlikely and unexpected of circumstances. Set in a stunning location, The Island of Hopes and Dreams by Kate Frost is just the ticket for readers looking for an intelligent, astute, feel-good and satisfactory romantic tale.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an Advanced Reader Copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
I believe this may be the first book I've read set on the island of Sardinia, and that automatically made me extra keen to read it, as I do love discovering new locations.
And Kate Frost has made Sardinia sound totally stunning and a wonderful sounding holiday destination. I think I will need to add it to my list of places to look at for holidays in the future.
As a big lover of fake dating, I was delighted to see some of that in this novel too where Lola and Rhys are both trying to avoid the glare of their friends meddling, in the lead up to the wedding they are all in Sardinia to celebrate.
Rhys is an absolute doll of a man, he's down to earth and all around lovely. Not the most obvious man to go for out of the group that includes some Italian hunks but there is something about him that I couldn't help but fall for. He's also dealing with the fact that his ex-love of his life is now dating another of his friends, and they are all at this wedding.
Lola though has an even more problematic recent dating record. The specific incident that is keeping her friends entertained was rather embarrassing, and before that her previous ex was a total and utter nightmare. And one she is trying her hardest not to reveal to everyone.
Lola's storyline in particular adds a lot of depth to this novel, which balances out the lightness of the wedding and its lead up.
I loved seeing the two groups of friends start to get to know each other, as well as seeing Mirabel and Fabs get ready for their pending nuptials.
There is a fabulous cast of characters, gorgeous setting and all around highly enjoyable and entertaining story.
Thank you to Boldwood Books and Netgalley for this copy which I have reviewed honestly and voluntarily.
Newly single Lola Wild has arrived in Sardinia for her best friend Mirabel’s hen weekend. All the friends want to find her a man, as she is the last single one among the group. She wants them all to leave her alone, so when she meets fellow wedding guest, Rhys Strickland, also single, they decide to help each other out by pretending there is something between them. As they spend time together, they share about previous heartbreak, with Lola telling him about her ex, who has been stalking her. Suddenly, they begin to realize that they have feelings toward one another. With the excitement of the upcoming wedding, family dynamics causing problems, a health scare, a stalker and more, can Lola and Rhys find a way to be together?
I do enjoy a good story with a fake relationship. Lola and Rhys both deserved a new beginning and fresh relationship, but getting there isn't something either of them want to rush into. First and foremost, they are there for their friends. They both have things they need to get over, and talking it over with someone else who is also dealing with a relationship issue, helps them to face it and maybe give them a chance to move on. I loved the setting of the island of Sardinia. With beautiful beaches, lovely homes and gorgeous views, I would love to visit there. It was a perfect setting for a wedding and for two people struggling to find their self-confidence to move on from what their exes had done to them. There were several tense moments that gave the story some urgency that I liked. Although there was chemistry, I liked that it was slow burn and any possible steamy scenes were fade to black. Overall, a wonderful story of friendship, personal growth, support for one another and yes eventually some romance. A perfect summer read.
I received an advance review copy for free thanks to Rachel's Random Resources and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

My Opinion
Kate Frost has written some delightful novels and The Island of Hopes and Dreams really lived up to my expectations. This is a book that I would highly recommend as it was such an uplifting read. With some great descriptions this book will whisk you away to Sardinia.
I know I'm on Outlier Island with this book, as it seems others are raving about it - but as much as it pains me to say, this book was not good.
I'm a big fan of this author. I've read several (if not all) of her books, and I've really enjoyed almost all of them. This one just missed the mark with me, sadly. I really wanted to love it, if for no other reason, because it's set on Sardinia - an island I really want to visit. But aside from the dreamy descriptions of the places, the rest of the novel just didn't grab me. I didn't really like any of the characters, at least, not enough to care what happened to them. Lola and Rhys were completely uninteresting and had zero chemistry, IMO. And the whole "let's pretend we're lovers, just to keep others from hitting on us, or to keep our friends from trying to set us up, or to make our ex jealous" thing was childish, IMO, and just not clever enough for me to think it was funny. I'm also really tired of the whole trope whereby people are only deemed desirable if they're super skinny and/or drop-dead gorgeous. It just didn't sit right every time Rhys was somehow seen as less-desirable because he wasn't as dripping with sex-appeal as some of the other men in the story. Spare me.
I'm definitely not going to stop reading books by this author. I usually love her writing style, and nobody does escapism better. This one was just not for me, and the first DNF I've had with her books.
With a stunning setting on Sardinia, this is a real escapist read which is perfect for a holiday read. Lola and Rhys are the centre of this story but there are plenty of other characters who make up the wedding party and who add colour to the events. Lola's friends seem determined to set her up with a new man and ignore her views on the matter. Rhys, a close friend of the groom, is coming to terms with the end of his relationship and has to watch his ex-partner and her new boyfriend. The fact that they are all old friends from university makes the situation complicated for them. It is no surprise when Lola and Rhys decide to enter a fake dating arrangement.
There is plenty going on in the story and the dynamics between the families and friends make for both amusing moments. Lola and Rhys grow closer as the story develops and Lola has to re-evaluate what she looks for in a partner. There are certainly alternatives on offer. Rhys too is at a crossroads in his career and taking time out to travel and re-think his priorities. There is also some interesting tension within the families of the bride and groom's families with them both so different. The friendships between the characters add warmth to the story which has a hopeful and uplifting mood.
In short: love and laughter Thanks to the publisher
In this fun and charming new romance novel, readers follow newly single Lola Wild as she desperately tries to avoid matchmaking-minded friends in the leadup to her best friend’s Mirabel’s wedding in Sardinia. Looking forward to celebrating her friend and relaxing, Lola needs her friends to stop talking about her love life, and that’s where wedding guest Rhys Strickland comes in. Avoiding his own problems, Rhys and Lola help each other avoid unwanted conversations and end up bonding in beautiful Sardinia, and perhaps this week of make-believe will bring them the happiness that they both desperately want. Entertaining, charming, and emotional, readers will love the summer vibes and beautiful location of this new novel from Kate Frost, whose attention to detail and writing style are immersive and relaxing. The characters are incredibly well-written and relatable, and their relationship is particularly nice and heartwarming in its relatively slow burn built off a mutual alliance. Lola and Rhys complement each other and are relatable to readers in some nice ways, and their chemistry really sells their relationship and the book as a whole. Entertaining, charming, and packed with details, readers will love this new romance novel for its location, characters, and feel-good themes.
Thanks to NetGalley and Boldwood Books for the advance copy.
Lola and Rhys are strangers travelling to Sardinia for a holiday culminating in their respective friend's lavish wedding. Lola is struggling after splitting with her domineering boyfriend, and her friends keep trying to match her with prospective boyfriends. Rhys is also struggling after his girlfriend left him - for another of his friends and they will both also be at the wedding. When Lola and Rhys meet they decide on a love pact, pretending they are together, so that they can be left alone. The setting certainly sounds idyllic, especially as the groom's family are rich and they are all staying in luxury accommodation. I felt for both Lola and Rhys, it certainly helps me having a male main character that I can relate to. There are some wilder parties going on that I'd certainly be too old to enjoy, but there are no explicit spicy scenes that some readers might object to. The story shows how important it is to talk to one another and also the power of friendship. A good book to enjoy whilst sitting in the sun or equally sitting by the fireside remembering sunnier times. I received an advance copy of this book from the publisher through Netgalley, however this did not influence my review of the book.
Lola Wild and Rhys Strickland are inadvertently drawn together when they attend the wedding of their best friends on the beautiful island of Sardinia. With their own love lives not going too well, Lola and Rhys decide to keep each other company without the fear of a romantic relationship coming between them however, fate has a fickle way of interfering and soon the beauty of the island starts to work its magic.
This is a really lovely summery story which captured my imagination from the start. I particularly enjoyed the glorious setting of Sardinia, with its azure blue sea, endless sunshine and the excitement of the coming wedding between Mirabel and Fab. All the trials and tribulations that go with organising a romantic wedding sit comfortably alongside the burgeoning friendship between Lola and Rhys and the deliciousness of a will they, won’t they friends to lovers romance. There are some darker elements to the story which add depth but ultimately it’s a beautiful love story between two rather special people who deserve a second chance at love.
The Island of Hopes and Dreams is the perfect summer holiday read with delightful characters who stay with you long after the story is finished.
The hen party and wedding for her best friend Should be a fantastic time for them together to spend But other friends seem to want to find a match for Lola now She needs to stop them somehow!
At the stag party there are revelations For the groom's best friend, Rhys, - adding complications. His ex is there with another of their group he's told And secrets from their past begin to unfold.
The luxury wedding in Sardinia should be a dream But the antics of 'friends' could ruin it, it would seem! So an accidental encounter has them making a pact Agreeing that for the wedding like a couple they'll act.
Together they share the events from their past Never assuming their fake relationship could last. However, what happens when feelings develop, too, Could this be a new beginning for both these two?
A story which shows that true love can heal When you least expect any chance it to feel. A heartwarming story, with great characters who Quickly feel like someone you knew.
The gorgeous setting adds to the mix With so many relationships needing to fix. There's drama a plenty and so much more In this fabulous read which I hope you'll also adore.
For my copy of this book I say a huge thank you As I share with you this, my honest review.
Lola wants to move on with her life. Still recovering from a toxic relationship, she is determined to support her best friend, who is getting married in Sardinia. Lola, unsurprisingly, has trust issues, and she is determined not to fall in love again. Rhys wants to live his best life after an unexpected breakup, but his friend's forthcoming marriage means he has to face his ex again. At the pre-wedding celebrations, Lola and Rhys meet, and what starts as a way of saving face in Rhys' case and avoiding her friends' matchmaking efforts in Lola's blossoms into a friendship that promises so much more. It's a story with some familiar tropes, including a best friend's wedding, a fake relationship, and forced proximity. Still, this story offers a unique perspective and has a menacing undertone in the form of Lola's abusive ex. It's an emotional story with an engaging balance of friendship and angst. I like the romantic setting, the believable friendship dynamic and the gradual emotional commitment between Lola and Rhys. I received a copy of this book from the publisher.
A perfect summer/escapist read with gorgeous beaches, beautiful villas and stunning scenery.
Lola, fresh from a bad relationship, is attending her best friend’s wedding on the island of Sardinia. Also attending is Rhys, the groom’s best friend, with relationship problems of his own.
This was a good and believable fake dating experience with so many hilarious pre-wedding shenanigans from various groups at the wedding.
The description of the island will make you want to visit and is a testament to the author’s descriptive prowess.
I loved the various themes explored throughout the book- friendship, strength, courage, starting over, love and family.
The characters are very relatable and I was particularly rooting for the main characters as they navigate through the mess of their respective previous relationships.
I would recommend this to enjoy while on the beach or anywhere you read to escape from reality.
I received an advanced copy and the review is mine and voluntary.
This is the first book I have read by Kate and I really enjoyed it. There was a range of characters, all with different personalities but likeable. The story takes us to Sardinia where everyone is gathered to attend Mirabel and Fabs wedding and where Lola and Rhys first meet. Lola has just come out of an abusive relationship but because it wasn’t physical abuse her friends don’t realise the extent of the manipulative behaviour and the impact this has on Lola and her self esteem. Rhys had been in a relationship with Zoe who is also at the wedding and although he does know deep down things wouldn’t have worked out he is still hurting. To avoid their friends trying to match make them with all available singles they make a pact to pretend they have got together. The problem is Rhys is actually a great man who is easy to talk to but can a holiday attraction turn into a real relationship? This book made me smile and I enjoyed the theme of hope and new beginnings throughout the book. Thanks to Netgalley and Boldwood books for an advance copy of this book however all opinions are my own.
Lola and Rhys have something in common; they want to avoid being set up by their friends at wedding they are both attending in Sardinia! So they make a love pact - they will pretend to get together so their well meaning friends leave them alone. This initially works really well, but their exes involvement complicates the situation, but probably not as much as the fact that, over the time they are in Sardinia they fall in love. But each is plagued by the question: 'Is it only me...'
This is a perfect book to read on your summer holidays, evoking hot days, wonderful food and beautiful scenery. I think the Sardinian tourist board should be paying Kate Frost as, I for one, have Sardinia on the list for my next holiday! The characters were likeable and relatable and the situations well set up. There were twists and turns, some of which you could see coming, others which took me by surpise. I really enjoyed reading this book and will be looking out for other titles by this author.
“The Island of Hopes and Dreams” by Kate Frost tells the story of Lola Wild and Rhys Strickland who are part of the festivities at their best friends’ extravagant wedding in Sardinia. Lola is recovering from an emotionally abusive relationship and Rhys was devastated to learn his ex is now engaged to one of his friends. At the wedding, they agree to pretend to be “into” each other to get their friends off their backs to move on with their lives. Of course, the sparks between them do begin to fly.
I enjoyed this book, although it took a little while for me to get into the story. But now I definitely want to visit Sardinia one day! Many thanks to Net Galley and the publisher for an ARC of this book.
Pulled into the circus-like drama of her friendship group, Lola Wild travels to Sardinia to attend her friend’s wedding. Recently single, Lola is particularly aware of the dangers of spending time with her friends, as each of them views success as being in a relationship. Seeing an opportunity to protect herself, she enters into an agreement with the groom’s best friend, Rhys. They will pretend to be infatuated with each other to ensure that his ex is convinced that he has moved on. At face value, this seemed to be a simple story that would help me pass a few hours, but it turned out to be a much more involved scenario. From their first encounter, Lola and Rhys had a chemistry that was obvious, and I felt that it was only going to be a matter of time until one or both of them caught feelings. That is the expected outcome of a well-used trope. But somehow, this felt a little different, and the romance was definitely of the slow-burn variety. Kate Frost imagined a fabulous friendship group that represented both the bride and groom, with their happy couple’s parents also featuring. This was a visit to another level of wealth keeping a foot firmly planted in reality. As the story progresses, we gradually meet the other members of the wedding party, including Zoe, Rhys’ ex-girlfriend along with her new partner, Freddie, one of Rhys’ closest friends. The awkwardness is tangible, but Kate Frost handles the scenes beautifully and brings a perfect conclusion to their shared discomfort. There are moments of hilarity and some real opportunities to cringe, but they are all delivered in a way that had eager to read more. With each of her books, I am excited to see where her stories my take me. Her characters, while enjoying a dream life, each have the same hopes and dreams as the next person making the entire story relatable. I would love to revisit this friendship group as they were all brilliant characters. Highly recommended!
The Island of Hopes and Dreams by Kate Frost was a beautifully written book from start to finish which made it a perfect read for any time of the year. Just open your kindle/book and begin to dream of walking on white sand beaches and listening to the sea. You will be transported to the beautiful island paradise of Sardinia, This was a perfect read and just what I needed to read, whilst sitting in my garden in the shade listening to the birds singing, This is the second book I have read from this author and I just love the way she writes - this book is so magical, a beautiful read about friendships and love. . . . . . I loved it
This was such a good read and I have to say what drew me to this book in the first place was the gorgeous cover. This isn’t just a book about romance It had a whole lot more in it . I really admired the character of Lola and all that she had been through . She deserves to be happy and going to her best friends wedding in Sardinia might help her. After all who doesn’t want a relaxing holiday on the stunning island . The characters of both Lola and Rhys were excellent and the author really brought them to life I thought . Both had been through bad relationship break ups but there was also humour there as well. There was one particular incident Lola had when she had attended another wedding that literally had tears of laughter rolling down my face . When I first saw this book I presumed it was going to be a rom com but how wrong was I. There is so much more to this story and I loved it . What isn’t there to love about a book with great characters and set on the beautiful island of Sardinia .
Let me start by saying that I really enjoy reading books by Kate Frist. Especially the ones that take place in Greece. This book seems to center around Sardinia so I was excited to see what the change of location would bring. The first 3-4 chapters of this book were so frenetic with tons of characters partying at the bachelorette and bachelor party as well as the fallout from those, that I decided I was not finishing this book at chapter 6. It was too much and not an enjoyable read.
I am giving this 3 stars however because while it’s not my cup of tea, I have no doubt there will be many that enjoy the drama.
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the arc.
I enjoyed this book. Lola is attending a friends wedding which is going to be a long one she has issues she is working through and is newly single. She meets Rhys who has his own problems and they make a pact to help one another through the celebrations. I was attracted by the cover of this book initially that is often what first draws me to a book. This story felt as if it could really happen and it drew me in. The descriptions of Sardinia made me feel as if I was there. Although this is not the first book I have read with an agreement like this I did really enjoy the whole experience and quickly read the story. Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the ARC.
Lola is newly single and not looking to mingle while Rhys would rather be anywhere than watching his ex with one of his best friends.
While away for their best friends wedding the pair strike up a friendship and use each other to fend off their well meaning friends from meddling in their love life’s. Lots of fun, sun and and fabulous beaches. Whilst manoeuvring all the ups and downs of a big wedding Lola and Rhys realise they could be more than just friends.
A fabulous summer read I devoured this in sunny Scotland on a rare sunny day enough to pretend to be on an Italian beach sipping a cocktail.

Lola's friends are always trying to matchmake, but after getting out of an abusive relationship, she isn't interested. In Sardinia, at the wedding of her friend mirabel, Lola meets Rhys, who has also had relationship problems. They become friends, and form a fake relationship to get everyone off their backs.
I really enjoyed this book. It was a delightful easy summer read, full of nice loveable characters. It shows the importance of friends and that it is best to put the past behind us and look towards the future.
Thank you to Netgalley, the publisher and author for letting me read a copy of this book in return for my honest review.
A heartwarming read, set against idyllic backdrops. It captures the charm of island life beautifully, and the central themes of healing and self-discovery are genuinely uplifting.
That said, while the novel delivers on feel-good moments and scenic descriptions, it falls a bit short in terms of character and plot development. Some relationships and personal transformations felt rushed or underexplored.
Overall, it's an enjoyable read, perfect for a light escape.
Thank you NetGalley & Boldwood Books for sending this book for review consideration.
Another romance by Kate set on a beautiful island. This time friends gather in Sardinia to celebrate the wedding of Fabs and Mirabel. They each have their own set of friends. Mirabel’s friends are all female and Fabs are all male with one notable exception. She even went on the stag do. There’s a lot of back story to certain characters from many years ago. The actual cast of characters is extensive and there’s a lot going on. Some tough subjects are part of the narrative. Will Lola and Rhys become friends? Will their fake ‘love pact’ work out? The time after Sardinia is very interesting.
