Readers become writers, and Christina has always been a reader. Ultimately she discovered she liked to read romance best because the relationship between a man and a woman is always humorous. A woman wants world peace, a clean house, and a deep and meaningful relationship based on mutual understanding and love. A man wants a Craftsman router, undisputed control of the TV remote, and a red Corvette which will make his bald spot disappear.
When Christina’s first daughter was born, she told her husband she was going to write a book. It was a good time to start a new career, because how much trouble could one little infant be?
Ha! It took ten years, two children and three completed manuscripts before she was published. Now her suspense, paranormal, historical, and mystery novels have been translated into 30 languages and sold more than 15 million copies in print. Praised for her “brilliantly etched characters, polished writing, and unexpected flashes of sharp humor that are pure Dodd” (Booklist), her award-winning books have landed on numerous Best of the Year lists and, much to her mother's delight, Dodd was once a clue in the Los Angeles Times crossword puzzle. She lives with her family in the Pacific Northwest, where her 700 lavender plants share the yard with her husband’s various “Big Projects,” including a treehouse, zipline, and their very own Stonehenge.

4 Estrellitas.

3.75 stars...maybe 4? Can't decide...

So I decided to pick this one up because I was in desperate need of a HR fix. I got it! I really enjoyed this story and its characters. MacLean and Enid were great characters.

I love how funny and strong Enid was. She's been through so much and had to keep her guard up. She is called to care for her dying husband who abandoned her and was just pure mean.

Her husband seems to have had a full personality swap and is a gentle yet authoritative warrior. His love for Enid was a great thing because it was so multi-layered, in fact their relationship was.

Enid couldn't fully commit to him because he was so awful to her in the midway mark. People seriously don't know how much a few words can affect a person. But it can eat away at one's soul and that's what happened here. I felt so bad for her because his words were scarring.

MacLean realized his mistake but not how much it affected Enid.

I did enjoy this book, the pacing of the story was great as well as the action. I will probably read more Dodd stories, it hit the spot!

“Lost In Your Arms” is the story of Enid and Laird of MacLean.

When Enid MacLean is summoned from her peaceful existence of being the companion to a kind old woman to save her estranged dying husband, she reluctantly agrees.

Stephan and she had separated 9 years ago when he abandoned her in lieu of not being able to handle responsibilities. She then took odd jobs, until ultimately training as a nurse and now earns her living taking care of sickly older people.

Not remembering much about the lively scoundrel but his crystal green eyes, she is instead shocked to meet a wasted and scarred body on the brink of death. Vowing to pull from from the hands of the reaper, she soon nurses him back to health, and discovers that the man who wakes up cannot remember anything.. including being married to her!

What follows is a beautiful (but predictable) love story about a strong, willful and independent heroine, a caring, determined and loving hero, crazy mothers, trustworthy friends and pure passion mixed with a good dose of angst.

I enjoyed their witty banter, the oh so hot lovemaking and their devotion to each other, mixed with a pinch of deception. Also, the husband bargain in the end was unexpected but made me laugh.

I had been so disappointed by the last few books in this series- so had put off reading this for almost a year now. But I’m so GLAD I did- it got me out of my historical rut!

Fab read!

I absolutely loved this book. There's a part where the heroine and a maid are trying to get the hero to wash but he said he smells "manly" and won't and they say the cows are complaining about the smell. Cracked me up. I laughed throughout this book. Very good book.

Another interesting and awesome book by Christina Dodd! As usual, she didn't fail in keeping me so totally engrossed until I forgot to have my dinner.

Enid is really such an endearing and compelling character. I admire how she is still able to stay strong through her short miserable marriage with Stephen Maclean. And how she still held her head high after the nine years separation with her late husband. She picks up a nursing trait during their separation and before she knew it, she is working as a nurse-companion for Lady Halifax who she adored dearly. But due to a horrible explosion, Enid has to forsake her tender care for Lady Halifax to her poor burned and injured husband, Maclean.

I like the way how Dodd portrays her as a headstrong, independent and strong-willed woman yet she has a tender heart and hands to carefully nurse Maclean back to live from the brink of death. Soon, she found herself falling in love with her supposed husband.

Maclean himself seemed to change after the explosion and not to mention that he suffered an irritable amnesia. All the more, Enid likes this side of Maclean more then ever and she cannot help but fall in love with him. But due to significant circumstances and dangers, both of them have to flee back to Scotland to catch the culprit. And oh! What a really heart-groping, suspense and romantic book!

I love Maclean for changing her; being her everything. She's scared to commit herself to him due to her failed previous marriage but Maclean managed to win over her even though it still takes her sometime to think about it. There's a surprise twist in the story and I have to admit that I laughed out loud at that. Am I the only who thinks that it was funny? And I don't mind having a laird like him for myself. ;)

I'm just kinda disappointed with the ending because I expected more then that from Christina Dodd. But anyway, I suppose that this book must be one of her earlier books so I expected it to be a little bit different.

All in all, I did enjoyed reading this book. And I recommend it to all of you Scottish lovers! :)

Book 5 in the Governess Bride Series

Enid MacLean, our heroine, is admirable – but not in a remarkable way. She didn’t stand out from the other hordes of romance heroines, which is partly why this book is barely better than average. She started out beautifully – strong-willed and a wonderful caretaker, but rapidly progressed into a mostly vapid and uninspiring heroine with the same internal battles every heroine has – but really with little cause. Our hero, MacLean, was strong, inspiring and almost picture-perfect but for the really mean, cruel words he said towards the middle (that may have smacked a little of verbal abuse or MacLean’s bruised pride. At least Enid’s not the victim type).

The story begins with Enid working as a caretaker for an invalid, older woman – when she is called away to a man’s estate to care for her husband, who has been severely injured in an explosion. While most wives would be fluttering with concern, Enid is unhappy with her husband’s intrusion into her life – after all, it’ll be the first time she’s even seen Stephen MacLean in eight years. Reluctantly she goes and cares for him – and the love story progresses from there as MacLean begins to heal and improve. Soon, MacLean wakes and finds himself without his memory – no knowledge of who he is or why he was in the Crimea, where the explosion occurred. Long and short, after some love-making and a fire (a real one, not the combustion of their passion) he and Enid set off for his home in Scotland where the conclusion of the drama, the discovery of the villains trying to kill MacLean, and the rest of the love story occurs.

The characters were witty, even if sometimes annoying and not true to themselves. The repertoire was amusing (if a little confusing at times when the reader doesn’t quite know what’s going on yet). Why on earth, you ask, should this book get such an average rating? Why, Rose May, Why?

First, *****BIG BIG BIG BIG BIG SPOILER ALERT: READ AT OWN PERIL***** I strongly dislike those stories where the woman has sex with her ‘husband/former lover’ and decides she loves him despite all his past problems – and then discovers he’s actually the brother/twin and not the husband/former lover. And then marries the brother/twin. This is what occurs in this story, when Enid finds out that her ‘husband’ that she’s caring for is not actually her honey-bunches-of-oats but his cousin, Laird Kiernan. I dislike these stories because they reek of the notion that people are all bad or all good. Usually, the former lover was a disaster and a mean-spirited alcoholic gambler and the replacement is a moral, strong, sexy beast. I dislike this because it squawks of the idea that change is impossible in a human being – because it can’t REALLY be the former lover lying in the sick bed because he’d be a rat. I also dislike these stories because… well… it’s weird to marry the family of your former husband/lover. I mean, for some people it would be less weird or not weird at all. But these stories freak me out – like do you need to have sex with all the manny-pants in the family to decide which one you’ll marry? I know, I know, that’s not the point of the story. Just my opinion, dear blog readers. *****END OF BIG BIG BIG BIG BIG SPOILER ALERT*****.

Second, the plot line was, in its essence, unrealistic. Which is annoying, because I like to live vicariously through the heroines - or at least escape into an alternate reality - and I can't do that if I'm constantly being thrown by how silly the plot or drama is. For being thrown into unexpected situations, MacLean is surprisingly prepared at all times (maybe he was a Scottish boy scout?) even when he really shouldn't be. Also, some of the plot twists don’t make sense – why would the villain, who had access to the cottage in which MacLean was staying the entire time, wait till the end to kill him or steal his stuff? The book was fun to flit through as long as you didn’t look too closely – which I tried not to do.

“Sexy”ness rating: Sexy – really, pretty gosh-durned sexy.

Overall Rating: C+

Bottom Line: If this is a kind of plot line you like, then you’ll most likely love this story. She writes this well, the characters are sorta great-ish, and the plot is slightly unrealistic but still suspenseful and fun. All in all, its average but perfect for a light read where you don't want to delve too deep or make things too complex.

Model cover mirip Chelsea Olivia ???

1. Alur cerita pas, no slow spot.
2. Karakter hero & heroin kuat, walaupun heroin sempat pesimis.
3. Sensualitas, gak usah dipertanyakan lagi, hot.
4. Dan jatuh cinta sama karakternya Kiernan MacLean.

And my casting for Enid MacLean is Bridget Catherine Regan Photobucket

And for MacLean, Gerard Butler : Photobucket

Christina Dodd fascinates me with this Governess Brides series and its start with the Governess Academy. Each book definitely stands alone and often one or two characters are brought up in conversation or the Governess Academy is with admiration and gratitude. The focus of this book is on the MacLean clan and Enid MacLean, an abandoned bride who wants nothing to do with the MacLeans. Ms. Dodd creates just enough of a suspenseful plot along with enemies-to-lovers type of conflict as well as excellent dialogue and action to keep everything lively. A fun, fun read.

There are lots of eye opening things in this book. I had no idea that the severely wound and sick were treated so poorly. I have to wonder when keeping the sickroom clean and bright and fresh came to be the standard instead of the exception. I had also had not thought about how one fed those that were unconscious and unable to drink. I will have to search for when IV’s came into practice. I am sure that was the turning point for saving people that died from being unable to eat or drink. There is also more spying and violence in this book. I have to wonder if spying was really so deadly during this time period. I am sure it was because it isn't much better today.

Now story picks up on a discussion from “IN MY WILDEST DREAMS”. There was an explosion that killed one man and wounded the other. The wounded man was on his way back to England but he wasn't expected to live. This is the story of that man and the woman that will make him finally know what it is like to love one woman.

I admired Enid MacLean. She has made a life for herself after so much adversity. She is a successful woman that knows what she wants and is willing to try to make that dream a reality, as long as it doesn't include her worthless husband. While she is illegitimate and an orphan she has done what she had to do to hurdle those obstacles. Her birth father did provide an education which has allowed her to be a nurse/companion. There is so much to admire about this woman. She never complains. She is strong, intelligent and compassionate. Her only fault is that she thinks that no one can love her forever and ever.

Kiernan MacLean is the MacLean in very way. He is intelligent, honorable, courageous, compassionate and arrogant. He leads his people with strength and understanding. However he is a man of his time and environment. He isn't politically correct or afraid to take charge and fix a problem. When he wakes after the accident he has lost his memory and he is confused when Enid tells him how he deserted her and was scoundrel of mammoth proportions. Kiernan is all Alpha male and he isn’t afraid the show Enid that he is willing to love her with all that he is or will ever have. He doesn't handle the relationship well in the beginning and must learn that sometimes you have to let go in order to get what you want.

This was a quick read. You just have to know what is going to happen next. When is Kiernan going to recover his memory? Who is trying to kill him and Enid? Why are they trying to kill them? What is it that Kiernan knows that is so damning? The villain is the story was a surprise, all of them. Ms. Dodd does and wonderful job of dealing with amnesia and how it can effect someone. She writes some of the best characters even those that are secondary. You want to know what happened to everyone and are disappointed when that doesn't happen. This is a wonderful book and I look forward to read the rest of this series.

This was a very enjoyable read, well on its way to 4 stars, until the very end. Which makes reviewing the book for perspective readers difficult, but I'll do my best to explain my experience without spoilers.

Enid hasn't seen her husband in over 8 years, not since he abandoned her because she was a chain around his neck, when all of a sudden she receives word that he has been nearly mortally wounded and needs her help. She goes to him, somewhat reluctantly, but the nurse in her takes over when she finds that he is not being well tended. SHe single-handedly brings him back from the brink of death, but when he wakes, he has amnesia. He doesn't remember her, what he did to her, or even himself.

The issues keeping these two apart kept tension levels high, and I found myself very much enjoying the ride. The trouble with the ending -- and I really mean just the last few chapters -- was that a shift occurred in the issues keeping these two apart. The final few chapters introduced a new issue, one I didn't buy, and that felt more like biding time until the suspense subplot could end. I particularly disliked the final resolution in the last few pages.

I do recommend this book, despite my reservations regarding the ending.

I really enjoyed the book to the point that I bought more titles from the author. The banter is entertaining and I love the fact that the heroine doesn’t take shit from her asshole counterpart. The only thing that disgusts me is the non-consensual sex/rape scene (while we have a glimpse of the heroine’s thoughts which tells us that a part of her wants to—can be considered dubious consent at this point—but she said NO so many fucking times so….🤡 the clownery).

Can be read as a standalone.

pros: writing, enemies to lovers, slow burn, sexual tension, strong heroine, amnesia, hero obsessed with heroine, nursing hero back to health trope

cons: misogyny, fragile masculinity, rape

- Sumpah Kieran MacLean.

oke, pertama kalinya aku liat lost in your arms by christina dodd, covernya langsung aku akui bagus.. pas aku baca sinopsis belakangnya , ide cerita agak mirip sama novel harlequin2 dulu yang pernah aku baca ( kalo nggak saalah Sandra Brown deh) dan jujur aku nyari-nyari alasan banget pas baca buku ini.

lalu tiba-tiba alur cerita berubah
ibarat kereta api, pindah jalur

lalu twist kedua pun lumayan mendekati lah tebakan ku ^o^
tapi bukan berarti gampang ditebak, tetap aja kaget pas baca.

Story line : no boring spot
Love scene : slowly but sure

Third time through. The Governess Bride series is a good one. Romance, intrigue (spies), strong characters, and this one complete with a gorgeous man wearing a kilt. The identify of the traitors from the previous story (In My Wildest Dreams) are revealed but not caught in this episode. This is a story of amnesia and it is one of my favorites of that sub-genre because even though Enid eventually realizes the man she's been nursing back to health is not her husband she keeps the fact from him to aid his recovery not for selfish reasons. I love that Kiernan is a passionate man.

2.5. Eh,nothing really special about this book. I liked the characters fine, but the plot was a bit boring for me.

Aşa s-a întâmplat şi in cazul eroilor noştri!

Londra, 1843

Fata care-i adresase întrebarea.
