Mina’s life has always been a fight for survival, but nothing could have prepared her for the brutal attack by someone who was supposed to be her family.
After the traumatic incident shatters her already fragile world, the seven men who she has come to care for step in to protect her.
She soon learns that there’s a ruthless serial killer on the loose, with herself somehow at the center of it all. But as the killer closes in and buried truths come to light, Mina learns that the men who vowed to protect her have been hiding something that rocks the foundation their relationship is built on.
Mina is left questioning everything—her safety, her feelings, and the true intentions of the men who have forced their way into her life.
With danger lurking around every corner and her heart tangled in the chaos, Mina must decide: can she trust them to save her, or will their betrayal be the one thing that destroys her?
***SILENT BETRAYAL, is the second and final book of the Shattered Silence Duet. It's a why choose, MFMM+, romance novel with dark themes. No mm/ff/cheating/owd. No abuse comes from within the harem. The FMC will not have to choose between her love interests. For a full list of trigger warnings please ShonaKnight dot com.
Reverse Harem Author If you love a reverse harem romance with heart, heat and happily ever after, then you've come to the right place! Shona writes full length MFMM+ why choose reverse harem stories that vary from fantasy to contemporary to paranormal. The FMC will always be the main focus of her men!
A lot of her stories focus on women that come from some sort of tortured background, but you will also find some lighthearted fun reads scattered in between!
While I enjoyed the first one, I just did not like this one.
I thought the dialogue in some parts was so ridiculous and over the top it actually became silly. I didn't feel like they loved and cared for her. It was just so over the top for me that it was flat. I felt nothing.
I disliked that several of them were already engaging in a sexual relationship with her before discussing consent. There's a part in here, after the sex has begun, where she admits she didn't know that she could say no to physical contact. Like. Wut.
The pet names were said wayyyy too much. I read the words kitten, angel, and sugar so much they honestly stopped looking like words at a certain point. And it makes no sense to me that after all the trauma she's been through she's just fine with all these guys.
By the end I was mostly skimming.
Thank you to the author for the gifted arc

The first book for me was okay, the dialogue was a little childish and the guys acted juvenile but it was readable.
I was excited for this release and honestly I’m disappointed. The story picks straight back up from the cliff hanger, which is great but then the story kinda falls apart. The FMC was this hugely traumatised terrified girl which y’know is truly believable, she spoke one word and all of a sudden she’s now speaking sentences, the explanations was kinda a huge let down as the mute-ness added to the story for me, we saw Mina kinda be rebellious at times to her mums rules so why did she never really put in any effort in trying to talk before now? If you pretend the whole hospital thing didn’t exist and the highly unlikely scenario which is written, why make her stay in her room all day everyday on her own mostly when she could at least move around or sit downstairs? Never mind that when her stitches come out she can magically move all her arms again and that kissing got her to move her detached finger *rolling my eyes*
The sex/smut just didn’t work for me, Mina couldn’t even orgasm in the first book without being triggered and having a meltdown and now she’s demanding sex (two weeks out of hospital after nearly being murdered) and taking cocks one after the other. This book just feels like it cancelled out all of Minas previous personality and replaced her with something I found unlikable.
The guys I forget at times how old they’re supposed to be but I *think* some are nearly 30 or over and they are written and speak like teenage or early 20’s boys - I mean one was in the army and he acts just like the 22 year old characters. Where’s the maturity? Where’s the emotional development?
I guessed who the killer was in the first book and I was glad to be right I suppose, I feel like the actual plot fell aside in this book, and it just became a teenage sexfest.
This duet is a MASTERPIECE. I didn't want this second book to end 😭 I have never read a why choose with this many guys, and it was done so well. It all hurt so good. I already want to reread the first book. I would give this book 10 stars if I could.
Mina's development was beautiful to watch. I loved the emphasis on what love should be like. Letting them be who they are and loving them for it.
I was very satisfied with the ending and the twists made me yell! I was not expecting ANY OF IT. It was perfection. I love that all the guys have their personalities and are confident with who they are. They live to take care of Mina and I love it. Someday I hope to see art for this book! I have a whole list of #1-7 of the guys so if you read this, let's compare lists 😍
I wish I could say more. I know this duet is going to live with me forever. Haunt me but also gives me the cozy feels which is a weird combo but if you know you know.
4⭐️ I love Mina and the guys so much! I loved that the book picked up right where it left off in book one, likeeeeee MY HEART WAS IN MY ASS after that cliffhanger and the first few chapters of this book, i literally couldn’t breathe. UGH, Mina went through so much, and my heart hurt for her.. but i loved the way things panned out with the guys. They’re literally all overprotective cinnamon rolls and i ate that up!! I think because book one was such a slow burn when it came to romance and spice, that this book had so much back to back spice that eventually i kinda got over it (that’s a me thing) and sometimes it felt like the same thing was being said over and over from each guy (hence why i gave it 4 instead of 5⭐️) BUT, the plot was PLOTTING FR when the book shifted back to the plot… i literally didn’t trust ANYBODY besides the guys lol! I also loved that we got to read about Mina with each of the guys individually as in other why choose books you can tell when the author has favorites among the guys, but i feel like it was pretty equal in this one! But the dates, the groveling, the way they literally always came for her… loveee. Here are some of my favorite highlights:
“Baby, I need you to listen to me. You’re going to be okay. No matter what happens, I will always come for you. We will always find you. No matter where you go or how far you are, we will never, ever stop looking for you. You belong to us, with us, and we will stop at nothing to get to you.”
“But you know you’re not just a friend to us, right?” “I’m not?” I ask in confusion. “No.” “Then what am I?” “You’re our everything,” he says
“I don’t even know how to explain that, but the mere sight of you pulled at something deep in my chest, like my heart knew you belonged there. I don’t know if that’s love at first sight, or soulmates or what, but I didn’t care. All I was focused on was making you safe and making you mine.”
Her hands start to move to cover her scars, but I pull them aside. “Don’t, I love them. They’re a part of you, and there isn’t an inch of you I don’t love.”
I read this with hopes it would be better than the first, but it was worse. I had to skip so much needless sex. There was no chemistry in this one - the first one at least had believable chemistry between the characters. Also it is such a clear direct copy of M Sinclair’s “Born in Flames” that it’s crazy it was even allowed to be published. I thought about writing a side by side comparison for the review but it would take too long given how many things are directly copied 🙃 also it is SO creepy that a 28 year old wants to be with a 17 year old??? Yes she’s 21 but they all believe she’s 17. Like please call the cops??? 🤮
This picked immediately off where the first book ended and I loved it. Watching Mina develop from a meek and nervous girl into the woman she did was an emotional ride for me.
I loved watching that Knight was able to give each of the 7 men their own personalities. I feel it’s rare to have a harem that large, especially without having carbon copies of each other, but she was able to make me connect to each one and feel for them and get a sense of who they were.
After that cliffhanger I have been desperate to read this second part, and it was intense. Mina is a true survivor, but she is far from safe from the serial killer and her psychotic family. As the 7 men all rally to protect her, they are racked with guilt over their failings, and desperate to show they all love her and grovel for forgiveness. They each have their own personalities, nicknames, and ways of helping Mina, this was sweet to see and Hella spicy when they advanced their relationship. I liked that Mina found her voice, gained her confidence and freedom, and found comfort in her new family. Also the twists were fantastic, as they've been tracking the serial killer, it exposes Mina's past, disturbing secrets come to light, and they discover dangerous and toxic obsessions. It's a good mix of spice, transformation, revenge, trauma and healing, with some truly psycho characters.
💀 "You're our everything"
💀 "She's mine, and nothing will ever take her from me again"
💀 "I knew what we wanted was unconventional. Seven men and one woman...but if anyone deserves to be cared for by so many people, it was Mina"
💀 "No matter what happens, I will always come for you"
This book did not make much sense. She was tortured and other things for her entire life and couldnt try get an orgasm without getting a panic attack. The first book ended with her half dead in the hospital. I feel that things went way too fast suddenly compared to how she was acting in book one. I mean she was so traumatized she couldnt even speak. It was almost like the author wanted to rush to get smut in and progress their relationships in the second book of the duet and forgot about the plot and growth/healing that was slowly progressing in book one.

I really liked the first part of this duet, this part really didnt do much for me. It felt too unrealistic in her recovery and healing, most of the book was just sex, the plotlines were quickly resolved like it hadn't been the main issue the whole first part.. idk, i was debating even giving it a 2.
The duet had promise but it kind of fell flat. We went from a mute girl with sooo much trauma due to being locked in a basement and abused most of her life, to the same girl knowing things she shouldn’t know, dirty texting, having a relationship with seven people when she’s never even had a friend before, etc… it was just fast and unrealistic. After the first book, she went from not talking for over a decade, to full sentences in like a week. Magic.
These guys were detectives but didn’t realize she was being abused? I mean… she flinched in pain when you touched her in certain ways, she was basically afraid of everyone, she had panic attacks at the drop of a hat (so bad that she almost always passed out). Come on. They were not very observant lol.
I am quickly starting to dislike the insta-love trope. I mean, the guys were in love with her after she came to the house the very first time. Calling her kitten, angel, love, sweetheart… so often it was ridiculous. “We’d do anything for you, baby”… but we have never talked and it’s the first time we’ve met. 🙄 The amount of times we heard, “She is only seventeen but seems so much older” in the first book to justify them having these feelings was overdone. Some of these guys were almost 30 and working in a school with her. Oh, and her severed finger magically moved after a kiss? I can’t. 🤣
The editing was a little lacking as well. Besides a lot of grammar/spelling/misuse of words, there were also a ton of sentences that were in present tense, then changed to past tense in the middle, then back to present.
Book 2 of this duet was quite disappointing. It lacked the tension and flow of the first one. There are several grammatical errors and many, many plot holes. With seven love interests the majority of this book was consumating relationships in typically tropy ways. The FMC experiences so many head injuries it's a miracle she can function. There is one plot twist which becomes obvious halfway through. Then they gift her a new dog one week before a planned trip to Aruba?
I'm glad Mina found her place with the guys, gaining her freedom from the past and happiness for the future. There were many sweet moments that had me kicking my feet. A couple twists kept the plot alive because the first half was mostly Mina and the fellas acclimating to one another. I craved more relationship building that wasn't physical. Once her true age was confirmed, their activities went from zero to one hundred in a second, and it was a little overwhelming for me. Her first and second time were back to back and both two at once, and that seemed like a lot for inexperienced, formerly mistreated Mina. As truths are revealed, Mina is hurt and unsure about their future, and there is some groveling involved, but it mainly involves a mutual release more so than actual amends. Overall, I enjoyed the story, and I liked the characters a lot. I think Atlas is my fave.
This book opens with a gut-punch! Dark, raw, and skin-prickling in its intensity. Shona Knight doesn’t hold back, throwing readers straight into a story tangled with betrayal, abuse, and manipulation. And yet, despite the unflinching darkness, there’s an undercurrent of growth and resilience that refuses to be ignored.
The FMC truly begins to bloom here, finally finding her voice and opening up about the torment she’s endured. That balance of pain and healing is what made this book hit so hard for me. It’s emotional, it’s brutal, and yet it manages to weave in a strangely wholesome tone amidst all the trauma.
This is a story about survival, the jagged road of recovery, and the brutality of truth. It’s not an easy read, but it’s one that lingers long after you turn the last page.
Tropes: Found family Why choose Survivor FMC Grovel Obsessed MMCS
Main Characters: Mina, Ben, Jasper, Max, Atlas, Tucker, Dom & Gideon
Stand out lines/quotes: Is this what love is supposed to feel like? A warmth that radiates from your chest at the sight of the people you care about? A feeling that only grows when you see them happy and smiling? And an intensity that feels all encompassing when they direct that happiness at you?
My Thoughts: Whew! The fun definitely picked up in this book! Shona did not hold back on this one and I loved it. I loved all of the twists and turns that this book took. All of the shocking revelations were 🤌🏻. They had my jaw practically glued to the floor. This was so much fun to read. I love, love, loved it.
I was so excited to get book two and I just couldn’t put it down. This book pull me in and kept me until the very end. There were moments I wanted to scream, cry but also smile and giggle.
I really loved seeing the strength of Mina and the way she grew throughout. I loved the connections with the guys and the way they grew. I felt like they each brought a piece to the relationship that was needed.
Overall I absolutely loved this duet and I am so sad to see it end! It was such a good read I honestly couldn’t get enough! I loved every minute of it. I HIGHLY recommend this duet if your looking for a contemporary dark book.
Mina has had a rough time of it during the years she was kept captive and abused by her mother. All of a sudden she has been sent to school. Told to look down, colour in and not draw attention to herself. Being mute doesn’t help after a bleach incident, Jasper and Max, twins from her year, take it upon themselves to look out for her and make sure she’s ok.
But there’s more to the twins that she doesn’t know.
and they’re not the only ones who take an interest in her but all will be revealed in Silent Betrayal.
It’s a must that you read the first book in the series, which I inhaled in a day. I was so glad to have this book ready to read once I got to the end so I could see what happened next.
If Why Choose/Reverse Harem is your thing, this book will be right up your street.
Mina may have been silenced for so many years but she’s no shrinking violet and her feelings towards all the men are shown in this book. They’re so different and I really enjoyed reading it.
So definitely very very cringe, but action packed. I mean it was slightly boring, with a lot of filler sex scenes. I don’t mind some once in a while, but it becomes a problem when it’s the only exciting scene in a hundred pages. Sex scenes should only complement the plot or enhance their relationship/connection, not be the main plot. It also dragged a lot around the miscommunication when it could’ve easily been resolved at the first conversation they had. Overall, it wasn’t bad, but it was long. Idk if it would’ve fit one book, but I think that would’ve been better. A lot of this was unnecessary, even though the plot r twists were nice, they were very predictable.
donttt knoww mannn, this felt too unreal in so many aspects. like how does a relationship with 7 men work? and how she healed oh so quickly in just 2 weeks from HIGHLY SEVERE INJURIES like a stab wound on the stomach, a literal severed finger, and cuts all over her body.. and the spice didn't do it for me, she went through SA for years and in literal one month, she was okay with sleeping with all of them, back to back? it was tooo much and overwhelming, in my opinion.
and her father and brother and the supposed mother, they all were crazyyy 💀
After that cliffhanger from book 1 I didn’t think my jaw could drop anymore, but boy did it. I had a feeling about how this was gonna play out, but I was shooketh to say the least. Getting to see Mina grow into herself was incredible and each guy helped her so much. Now I know there’s no way I could ever keep up with seven men, but more power to you sister! After her shitty childhood she deserves all the love they can give her and more. This reverse harem duet was amazing and definitely recommend if you love some plot twists that will have you clutching your pearls 🤣
Again nothing ground breaking but if you’re in the mood for insta love and seven devoted and possessive guys then enjoy! Dark themes with the background story and Mina faces into a lot with her story unravelling. The spice is majorly upped in this book with group scenes - the spice level goes from 0 to 100 and if it was following any sort of realistic patterns it just wouldn’t be happening 😂 but not sure this book is for you if realistic is what you are going for!! Enjoy!
Gotta read the first one to understand what’s happening. This is not a standalone.
This had an OK ending with some decent twists. FMC gets an OK character arch as well.
Lots of spice in this one, but some felt somewhat forced. I am glad for more POVs in this second book, although they weren’t always helpful or significant to the story building or character relationships.
So disappointed. The first book was great, but this one was a huge letdown. So many things were totally unbelievable (I understand its fiction, but still), dialogue was extremely childish and repetitive, and the plot seemed to disappear for most of the book and then was rushed
This was such a gripping and emotional end to the duet! Silent Betrayal had me hooked from the start—so much tension, heartbreak, and healing. I loved seeing the characters grow and fight for themselves and each other.
There were a couple of moments that felt a bit rushed, but overall it delivered the closure I was hoping for. Shona Knight knows how to bring the feels!
This second and final book in the Shattered Silence duet picks up right where the first book ended. With the seven men in Mina’s life finding out what her life was like, the atmosphere of the series changes in this second book. In a way, the switch felt a bit sudden to me. I understand with seven men and a limited amount of pages the relationship building needs to take in a big percentage of this book. But the switch from practically nothing to everything was a bit hurried for me. I think this might have worked better as a trilogy for me. Still, if you’re a fan of spicy why choose stories, this second book might be perfect for you.
"No matter what happens, I will always come for you."
I will start by saying that I was given an ARC copy in exchange for an honest review. These opinions are my own. Thank you so much to Shona for sending a copy my way!
I will try and keep my review as spoiler free as possible but just be wary if you haven’t read the first book, Silent Desires
Holy hell! That was a wild ride. I felt all the emotions. If you love dark romantic suspense, add this duet to your TBR
Thankfully, Silent Betrayalpicks up right where the first book left off. The focus switches to the serial killer investigation. Mina is safe, for now. It turns out Jasper, Max, Gideon, and Tucker were undercover; they had been hired to try and catch the killer. They work for a private investigator firm, and the rest of their team — Ben, Dom and Altas — have been chasing leads outside the school.
Mina gets the space and chance to heal. The sheer amount of trauma she must wade through is terrifying. I am in awe of her strength. Yes, her recovery is messy. There are setbacks, but that’s what makes it feel realistic. It was great to see her work on setting boundaries and finding her voice. Mina proves she will do anything hold onto her happiness and those she loves.
The romance was a little rocky. The guy's overprotective behaviour of while initially sweet, eventually suffocates Mina. The lovable idiots, in their infinite wisdom, decide to keep Mina in the dark about their investigation. Understandably, Mina is equally hurt and furious about the secrets. Thankfully, the guys pull their heads out of their arses and they tell her everything. Mina makes them grovel and work for her forgiveness, which we love to see. They all propose a series of dates to get to know her and seek her forgiveness. The steam explodes in this book. We get some fantastic group scenes, including a truly wonderful twin sandwich situation. The twins, Max and Jasper, are probably my favourites.
The Shattered Silence Duet was a wild ride and a perfect conclusion to Mina’s story. You can expect to see more of Shona Knight’s books in my future.
Yikes, this was bad. The males are all sugary sweet that it's just...bad. The story was pretty fantastical and over the top. You would think the guys would have been smarter to be investigators. Watching them speculate about Mina was frustrating. Also, when they finalky had sex became so boring. Each guy had to have his date or time with her. They were all like puppies. I did a lot of skipping pages in this book because the writing was so immature. Sorry! It just lacked any depth.
Honestly, Mina didn’t feel like her own character anymore, I would have loved to see her actually experience getting used to a new life and stuff she’s never interacted with before. The guys had 0 personality in this one either, I could barely picture them in this book at all. My main issue with the book is the middle where the boys mess up and have to make it up to her… individually so it’s rinse and repeat for several chapters. The spice was pretty lifeless in this one, it feels so rushed all the time when there is spice.
Overall, this was kind of disappointing compared to the first book which I enjoyed a lot more. I think my main take away from this is giving Mina more slow development would have been better and more visual cues on the guys - I know what colour shirts they wear, but do I remember what Ben looks like? Nope.
