First line. First page. First chapter.

Kendig throws the reader into the thick of the action in the very first line. My heart rate racing after the first page, the adrenalin pumping through the first chapter. Man-o-man this is great writing.

And it just keeps going as we are introduced to the various players that will occupy our minds over the next month or so. It was a little challenge keeping up with each new player but I think that's part of the fun of it, keeping the reader on our toes, for the unexpected, for the next stomach-in-our-throat dip down the roller coaster of thrilling action.

Kendig provides a synopsis of each main character and the conflict that will challenge them as they step back in time to settle the past and rescue their futures.
Just think this was "The Beginning", the prologue of what may become the ride of our lives.

I wait, full of nervous energy, for Part 1.

Grab your copy. It's free, but be warned, it's very fast.

WOW!!! This new serialization starts off with a bang and just doesn’t let up! One of the things I love about Ronie Kendig’s books is that she writes amazing and realistic action scenes. But, on top of that, she fills her books with characters that are so well-written and have deep issues that need to be handled. The combination of characters that you care about being put in dangerous situations, makes for amazing stories.

In Overkill, there is intense action and the introduction of the main characters. I love the pace this story sets. You get to see what is happening to each character. Not knowing if that character was going to survive and trying to wrap my mind around each characters thoughts about the past, made for an intensely enjoyable story. It truly felt like I was watching the episode on television! I felt like I could see everything going on and I was left hungering for more at the end of the first installment. This series is truly a gem and I cannot wait to see what happens next!

What. A. Great. Book!!! Or prequel to a book, I suppose you could say. I was a little confused by the rapid introduction of characters, but I quickly caught on and was enthralled by the story. I loved how quickly the story moved and read this part in just one sitting!

This is the first of a five-part serial novel. This beginning was just enough to whet my appetite, so I'm anxiously looking forward to reading the rest ... and soon! [5 stars]

Six candles. "They . . . never . . . . . existed . . . . yet . . . aren't . . . . .forgotten." Two snuffed out; horribly and irrevocably terminated. Two on the run; lives disrupted and forced into hiding; secured in a military bunker. One fighting for her life. And one, MIA. These are the women of ZULU; a highly trained special ops team; separated and forced underground after a mission gone bad; "Misrata". Starting over. New names. New lives. New occupations. New dreams for the future.

And as their five year anniversary approaches, the nightmare finds them. Will there ever be enough grace to redeem this level of brokenness?

Meet Annie, working in a sub shop in Manson, Washington; struggling to reciprocate love from former SEAL, Sam Caliguari. Meet Katie, who has returned to the quiet life of Bleak Pond, Pennsylvania; living with her Amish grandmother and anticipating marriage to a fine man, David Augsburger. Meet Jessie, whose life fell apart in the city of Las Vegas, Nevada. Sadly, her candle is snuffed out far too early by an assassin's bullet. Meet Candice, a park ranger at Denali Park, Alaska; lured deep into the forest to supposedly rescue a family battling hypo-thermia and ends up dead on the ice. Meet Keeley, a dive instructor on Little Cayman Island, who is nearly killed when she is ambushed on a dive boat; saved only by the miraculous arrival of Chief Warrant Officer Boone Ramage; her former trainer. Finally, we will have to wait to meet Nuala, whose whereabouts are unknown, she was working at a lodge in the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina, but remains unaccounted for.

When Lieutenant Colonel Trace Weston gets the word that "they have found them", he immediately teams with Boone to assemble his former elite ZULU team in order to protect them, while he works to gather intelligence on the immediate and present danger. But not everyone trusts Trace; while he works feverishly to protect, another is working feverishly to destroy.

"Overkill" is an absolutely amazing start to a guaranteed-to-be explosive story; just when I think that Ronie Kendig cannot get any better; she does!

Operation ZULU Redemption! Has just begun!

Blood pumping, adrenaline inducing writing that will leave you desperate for the next installment!

Ronie Kendig has done it again! Her serialization, Operation Zulu Redemption, is one wild ride after another. In this free introduction to the serialization, you will meet some of the key players of Operation Zulu (or OZ for short).

Ronie doesn't even let you catch your breath before you're out the door and part of the wild ride the OZ team is facing. As each character is introduced, a new twist of the plot unfolds until you're completely wrapped up in it.

I won't say much more than that at this point since Overkill introduces the series and I don't want to give anything away. I will say, however, that you'd better get this right away!

There's always been something utterly addictive about Ronie Kendig's writing but she has injected Operation Zulu Redemption with extra high-octane habit forming fuel. The first instalment, Overkill: The Beginning, will have readers strapped in and immobilised as they get to know the incredible women of Zulu, a secret black ops team, as the safe lives they have created implode as an unknown enemy has them in the cross hairs. With the same intensity and adrenaline inducing qualities of an episode of 24, Overkill doesn't let up for a second as the women are ripped from their homes into the tenuous safety of their former handler, Colonel Trace Weston, a man one of Team Zulu hoped never to see again. Brace yourselves, readers, this is going to be one hair-raising, heart- pumping ride you can't afford to miss!

Oh man! When I first heard that my favorite Christian Military Suspense writer was going to write about an all female special operations team, I wasn’t sure it was going to be as good as her other books. I mean, when I think spec –ops, I think males. Big, brave, burly men. But let me tell you, Overkill blew me away. What a phenomenal start to this serialization. I was biting my nails (okay, not literally but figuratively) while reading this story. There are no punches pulled. It’s a hard core, emotionally driven, edge of your seat thrill ride. I’m hanging on for dear life because I have no idea where it will end up but I know it’s going to be like drinking a tall glass of Mint Iced Tea for this southern girl; satisfying to the last drop, er… page. :)

This first installment does a great job of introducing us to the cast of characters. Each is done with tension and suspense. Each of the women from "Zulu" have settled into very different lives - all of them a stark contrast from the life of a soldier. I especially like the idea of a disgraced soldier trying to settle in an Amish community.

Things all start coming to a head near the end as the characters begin to converge and realise they all have a problem.

This book raises more questions than it answers - as you would expect from a pilot episode. I'm a fan of these novella-serial-reads-like-a-tv-show kind of books, and this one has a particularly interesting premise. I'll certainly be reading this series.

Wow! Overkill starts out exciting and doesn't let up in this short teaser(70-something pages) beginning to a new serial. Operation Zulu will be a 5-part serial with a new episode coming out each Friday. Seriously from the very opening pages I was hooked and am thankful I have the next episode ready to read on my Kindle already. I am looking forward to finding out the back story for each character(at least I hope we find out more back story!), what happened that sent them all into hiding? And who has exposed them all to their enemy, as well as who exactly is their enemy. The fast pace kept me turning the pages and finishing this teaser in short order. The suspense didn't allow me to put the book down until the end and will have me ready for each new episode as they come out.

3.5 stars. Fans of Dee Henderson's Uncommon Heroes series and Ronie Kendig's other novels will love this new ebook series (alas, there aren't plans for a paperback version.) I'm a big fan of suspense books with strong heroines, and I found that in spades as I read Operation Zulu Redemption: Overkill - The Beginning. I love the idea of an elite group of women in the military too. Only reason I docked this book a half star was because of the sheer number of characters introduced in this relatively short novella. I realize it's the intro to the series and they all had to be included, but I could barely keep track of them. Just when I got to know one of the characters, we'd switch to another. I will be interesting to see where this series goes!

This story gets off to a bang. It's a beginning, not an end...a prelude with no resolution except to show how deadly the danger is that's after them. I'll definitely be reading the whole series when I get a chance.

This book sounded really cool and exciting, but it wound up being a disappointment. It's the introduction of a series of books dealing with an all-female black-ops team that was disbanded. The gals have all been given new identities and are living civilian lives in fairly remote areas, dealing with the ghosts of their failed mission and hoping nobody finds them and comes after them for revenge.

Near the front of the book is a list of the cast of characters: Six girls who were part of the team, plus their commanding officers and the daughter of the general in charge of the project, who's determined to make them pay for leaving her dad to take the fall for their failure and ruining his career.

Sadly, the author starts killing off the girls right off the bat, leaving two in a secret government facility wondering what's going on, two dead, one critically injured and one unaccounted for. The author introduces each person, shows them in a fight for their lives, and then, BAM! They're dead, or people they care about are killed or injured as collateral damage. Nobody seems to know what's responsible.

It's easy to tell from what's already been presented that the author plans to deal with PTSD, substance abuse, survivor's guilt and related topics resulting from what the team went through on their first and only assignment. There's probably some espionage, treason, leaked information, or something of the sort. It's definitely going to be one of those stories wherein the author doles out the information a little at a time, so you have very little idea what it's really all about, who the good guys and bad guys are, who the "expendable crew members" happen to be, and which girl winds up with the fellow of her dreams or abandons all hope because of her past.

I like action-adventure, mystery and suspense. A little romance here and there is not bad either. What I don't like is a high body count, and it looks like this series is pretty violent. While the author and some of the characters appear to be Christian and there is no profanity, I'm not sure I can recommend this novel, due to the violence.

This is a novella, except it's really more the beginning of a book. It's not a complete story, it's continued in the next book, and many things were never explained or wrapped up--just a lot of action. It was confusing because we had 6 main characters who had two names (both of which were used: real names and in-hiding names). We also get their romantic interests, friends, and/or co-workers. There's also their military bosses. Two of the six women die by the end. The fate of two is unknown. Basically, it ends in a cliffhanger, and I still have very little idea of why they were in hiding and no idea of who wants these 6 women dead. Not very satisfying.

Not actually a book

This is a short preview, introducing characters and the beginning of a plot. Not the way this is usually done. I mean there is usually a book 1, where part of the plot partially finishes at a point, leaving enough to to either interest the reader to buy the other books, or not. This is more like a trailer for a movie. In that sense it is a disappointing read.

Action packed! The beginning piqued my interest - great way of introducing the characters, leave unanswered questions and full of action/suspense which kept me reading to see what is going to happen.

Looking forward to the rest of this series

❤️Great Story❤️

First of all, I would like to compliment the Author with the story plot. A nice Christian story fit for those of us seeking how to leave our past in the past. There were a few incorrect usage of words/punctuations, but overall a fabulous book I’d recommend. 😊

Annie flicked the striker wheel and aimed the flame at the first wick, remembering.
"They..."
Then the second. "...never..."
And third. "...existed..."
Choking on emotion made her hand tremble as she lit the fourth. "...yet..." She mustered her strength as the fifth wick caught. "...aren't..." The flames danced and popped against the wind. "...forgotten." Light flared in front of her.

This is the way Ashland Palmieri (aka Annie Palermo; Zulu One) allows herself to remember (and maybe attempt to forget) the women she worked with and what happened five years ago.

Operation Zulu Redemption: Overkill - The Beginning tells the beginnings (or middle(s)?) as 5 women who were part of the first female special ops team try to move on from an event 5 years ago. They thought they had good intel and ended up walking into an ambush. That ambush and the events that followed caused the women to need to essentially disappear, taking on new identities and trying to walk away. However someone has discovered who they have become and has already killed two of them.

Ronie Kendig has a way of writing that keeps you on the edge of your seat. For me, her writing has always been addictive, pulling me in from the start to the (usually explosive) end. This was no different. I was on the edge of my seat from the words Tonight, I die.. I read this first installment in all of 45 minutes.

She does a great job of introducing you to the women of team Zulu and injecting you with just the right amount of fear and adrenaline as they escape the nightmares that have managed to find them after 5 years. I'm already tied up in their lives and want to know more! Where did they all come from, What really happened with Misrata, Will Annie be able to make a go of it with Sam, Does Sam know more than he's letting on, Who is Nuala and why is she the only one MIA, Does General Solomon know more about what's going on than what's he's told people?

That last one especially has me wondering!

Sam's got me wondering too. It was pointed out that he's a former SEAL, but he kind of was there right as things went down and he magically had a gun when things went wrong too. I'm really hoping that he's just that good as was pointed out a few times and he suspected something was up. I still must know!

Great start to what I'm assuming is going to be an explosive story! Can't wait for the next episode!

In exchange for my review, I received a free, advanced copy of this episode

This review is for the entire series-

When I finished Operation Zulu Redemption by Ronie Kendig, I couldn’t stop asking myself, “Why in the world did I wait so long to read this incredible story?” I loved the serialization and how we got to read from everyone’s point of view. I loved how it started with a bang and didn’t let up - ever. The only complaint I have is that it ended.

At the risk of sounding like a broken record, Ronie Kendig writes the best male characters! They are seriously amazing. In fact, this story has one of my favorite characters ever. The interesting thing is that he might be considered somewhat of a villain. I won’t say much more about him because of spoilers, but I would really love to see him get his own story! As for the non-villains in this story, I loved each and every one of them because they were all perfectly imperfect. And bonus! I was totally shocked at who the true villain was. As in I never saw it coming!

This story is not to be missed! The writing is stellar, the characters are memorable, and the storyline is original. Don’t miss this one! All the stars!!!

Excited to find out what happens next!
This is the first installment in Ronie Kendig’s new serial novelization, Operation Zulu Redemption. I wasn’t sure what to expect, since I’ve never read a serial novel before, but I’m a huge fan of Ronie’s books and was confident that whatever it ended up being, I would enjoy it. I’m very happy to say that I was right and I loved it!
“The Beginning” is a fitting title for this “episode,“ as we get a little bit of back story for each of the ladies and find out what happens that pulls them out of their new lives. I was a little surprised at how quickly I became attached to Team Zulu. Despite the fact that this episode is very short, I felt I knew the ladies rather well and was rooting for them from the very first pages. I was also very taken with Sam, David, Boone, and Trace, and am very interested to learn more about them in the coming episodes.
Though it confused me a little bit at first, I found I really enjoyed getting to see the story from several different points of view, including the man in charge and someone who seems to be a possible “villain” in the coming episodes. The writing, as always, was wonderful and I was quickly drawn into the story. The descriptions were great and I really appreciated having explanations of who is who and what the military terms and acronyms mean. I referred back to them several times until I got caught up on everything.
The one of things about Ronie’s books that I can always count on is that they are addicting. I reached the end of the episode and was trying to figure out what had happened! I felt like someone had handed me a really great, suspenseful book, let me read a couple chapters then took it back! I was upset for a couple minutes, then had to admire how she ended the episode. It was left in such a way that you won’t be able to resist reading the rest of the series, because you’ll be dying to know what happens to the characters. I can’t wait to find out what’s next for Team Zulu!
I highly recommend Operation Zulu if you enjoy military suspense!
I received a free copy from the publisher for my honest opinion, which I have given. I was not required to write a positive review and have not been compensated for it in any way. All opinions expressed are my own.

4 STARS

This is another serial book. This one is longer than the first serial from Shiloh Run Studios. It looks to be 6 episodes and longer than their first one. It started on July 4 and every Friday a new episode comes out.

In Overkill we meet the main characters of the series and start to care about them. It does have a few questions that hopefully be answered soon. Definitely left me wanting more of them.

At times it is a little confusing because each of the women that were part of the Zulu the first all women special forces team are in hiding. They have their birth name, the name they are hiding under and their code number. My answer to that I had two kindles and left one with front of story that had the characters and bio opened for quick glance, And then I read on my other kindle. but you could just book mark it unless you have no memory problems.

Someone set the Zulus up five years ago when things went wrong, Innocent women and children were killed. The Zulus were scattered and given different names. Now someone has found them and is picking them off one by one. It is a race to figure out what is happening now and stop them before it is too late for all of the Zulus.

This story is not afraid of killing the characters off. It draws you quickly into the story and leaves you wanting more. I know I am going to read the next episode today.

I want to see who is sending killers after the Zulus? Who is betraying them now and five years ago? Will Annie and Sam get together? Will Teya become Amish? Where is the missing Zulu? I really want to know the answers and more.

The setting for this story takes you all over because each of the women are hidden away from each other.

The pace of the book is very fast. Not boring or dragging at all.

Ronie Kendig writes novels that deal with military with characters and story lines that I have always liked. I look forward to reading Operation Zulu Redemption serial.

I was given this ebook for free and in return agreed to give honest review of it.

After reading Ronie Kendig's Raptor 6, I was glad to see more work from this talented author. Her latest title, Operation Zulu: Redemption has been released as a serial novel in five parts. The first portion is named Overkill: The Beginning and kicks off what is sure to be an interesting and thrilling series.

We are introduced to multiple characters, but most notably the six women of Operation Zulu. All have their own cloudy past serving in the military, but have gone on to reinvent themselves as civilians, changing their names and making little to no mention of their histories. Due to some unforeseen circumstances, these soldiers are pulled back into service. This is generally not a welcome event from the point of view of the servicewomen, as they had worked for years to establish new identities, find new loves and move on.

As this is only (in theory) 20% of the novel, The Beginning is a short taste of things to come, and its task is to introduce characters and the general concepts. So while there are exciting moments (particularly when the ladies are forced to leave their new lives), there is a sense that we are in the opening scenes of a movie, getting to know the major players. In order for us to be invested in these individuals and care about what happens to them later in the series, we have to delve into not only their pasts a bit, but also their present day. Ronie Kendig does this well, showing us how these women are smart and tough, but they have soft hearts too. By the conclusion of this episode, I was eager to jump into the next title, Collateral Damage.

Originally released once a week during the summer of 2014, all five parts are now available for download as ebooks. This opening episode, The Beginning is available for free, so you can get started at no cost. And if you prefer the standard print version for all five portions, Series 1 will be available with all five episodes (480 pages) in December.

I read this because it was free, and now wish I hadn't wasted my time.

This is part of a five-part serial, which is another annoyance. I waited until all five parts were available before I started reading (because I don't like cliffhanger endings), so this is essentially a combined review of all five parts.

The first two scenes of the first part describe murders. I thought because they were viewpoint characters they'd somehow survive, but no. That was the first annoyance, but it wasn't the last. There were also factual errors (especially in episode 2), and a couple of things which, in hindsight, just didn't make sense (like the couple who turned out to be CIA plants).

I'm not a fan of Kendig's writing at the best of times (her "rapid-fire fiction" reminds me of Dan Brown). It's all action, no explanation, little character development, and characters going off all over the world based on one tiny clue that just happens to be the *vital* piece of information they need. It's published by a Christian fiction house, but there is little or no Christian content (but a lot of death).

Thanks to the publisher for providing all five parts free in exchange for participating in a promotional campaign for the series. We were promised a $25 gift voucher for posting on social media each week for ten weeks, and only received the new "assignment" when we completed the previous one. I thought the final "assignment" - to write a review - was inappropriate, because the original invitation only mentioned social media posts, and because by week 10 we only have to complete this one last task to get the $25 ... doesn't that sound a lot like a paid review? Just so you know, I'm not going to send the link to this review, so I won't receive a voucher.

A new serial novelization by Ronie Kendig?! Yes please, and as usual and with no shock, Ronie delivers with stellar form. It took no time at all to get sucked into the first part of operation Zulu. I'm already invested in the characters and on the edge of my seat to find out more of their backgrounds and the story of what brought them to where they are today. I love that this series has a female focus. Don't get me wrong, I'm a big fan of the male characters of Discarded Heroes & The Quiet Professionals, but it's always nice to read the female POV to be in special forces. Beware: because this IS a serialization, it definitely ends on a cliff hanger and when I realized I had just read the last paragraph of this installment I literally yelled "no!!" and frantically checked to make sure my Kindle hadn't somehow skipped over a section.

SLIGHT SPOILER ~ read on at your own risk

Ronie also brings in the heat by right from the start, making some character "cuts" that make you think "wait, did that just happen?!" But yet adds to the suspense of "what exactly is going on here?" Must. know. more.

Spoiler done, ok to continue ;)

To wrap up this initial review, If you haven't already clued in..I am more than psyched over this new series and can't wait to see the outcome of what this intro has begun. And it's even more exciting knowing we only have to wait a short time to get the next chapter ;)

One of the best “in-your-face” action-packed, tension-packed introduction to a tough core group of characters I have ever read! If Ronie Kendig’s style of introducing and giving background regarding these tough black Ops women and men is ANY indication of what to expect from the series, I am completely onboard, looking forward to entanglements, danger and a whip-fast pace.

Operation Zulu Redemption: Overkill – The Beginning, one heck of a title that makes me feel there is so much more to be told. Great teaser to entice a reader’s palette as the women of ZULU are brought back together for a do-over to redeem themselves from an operation gone wrong.

My take on the Operation Zulu Redemption serial novels was that they were a set of novellas that compounded on each other. Now that I’m looking at it, I see that it’s more like a set of books (all around 200 pages) that compound upon each other with this novella as the stepping stone. After reading the novella, I began to think that I might skip the others, however, learning that they’re full books has changed that opinion & I’m going to continue.

What I liked: I liked the characters. Each member of the Zulu team has been set up so that we love them and want to protect them. We have a great view of the danger that is coming from them and their potential threats. This was a very dramatic and action-packed intro.

What I didn’t like: Even with the character list explaining who everyone is I stayed fairly confused with the players and their roles. There were times that I felt completely lost – not enough to stop reading though.
