This book has 3 Greek myths in it, Jason and the Argonauts, Icarus, The Labors of Hercules. It's an informational book about these 3 myths. The story of Jason is that he has to find the golden fleece to win back the throne from his Uncle Pelias. He has to find a crew for his ship, the Argos, survive the Harpes, and gets help from Hera. Icarus is the myth that warns people to be careful and not boastful. He and his father want to fly, even though humans cannot. They build wings to escape, but Icarus doesn't heed his father's warning and flies too close to the sun. Hercules is a great hero, but Hera drives him mad out of jealousy, and he kills his wife and kids. As punishment he is sentenced to perform several trials or labors, like kill the Hydra, capture a giant boar, and clean the stables of the king.

The artwork is colored panels, the tone varies from being subtle and in the same shade, to being contrasting depending on the story. The texture is kind of flat. Even the animals look flat and 2 dimensional.

The Greek myths originated as truths to explain things to humans. Sometimes they were supposed to teach a lesson, as in the case of Icarus. Sometimes, they explained phenomenons like the echo. And often, they portrayed heroes as being close to gods but with human traits.

This book offers a little information about Greek myths and tells three of the stories in graphic novel format. The narrative for each is short and the illustrations really help to tell each story.

It's not the best example I've seen, but it is sure to appeal to children interested in learning about these stories.

The text and images focus on three important stories in Greek mythology. The collection begins with Jason and the Argonauts and moves quickly through the story is Icarus and ends with the 12 labors of Heracles. With the wide scope of the stories, there isn't much a focus on the story of Icarus. The Heracles labor comprises the bulk of the text. Overall, the text is a nice introduction to three important myths in Greek and world history.
