What better way to celebrate spring than with a fashion show hosted by Fancy Nancy and her friend Bree! Nancy and Bree create magnificent costumes for their dolls Marabelle and Chiffon to wear at the Spring Fling Fashion Show. Join them as they celebrate springtime in this special 8x8 storybook adventure from New York Times bestselling team Jane O'Connor and Robin Preiss Glasser, complete with a fabulous set of stickers!
Since the publication of Fancy Nancy, Jane O'Connor's closet now boasts so many boas, tiaras, and sparkly ensembles that sometimes friends do not recognize her on the street. She still resides (that's a fancy word for lives) in New York City with her family and their canine companion, Arrow. --from the publisher's website
A Fancy Nancy book not only about spring but also about easter. They are decorating eggs in this one. Mostly, they are having a fashion show with their dolls/barbies. They create new looks with flowers to have their Spring line. They set up a runway with invitations and a feast and off it goes. There is some fashion road kill but the show goes on.
My niece loves to do this. She will make some amazing dresses with tissues. They can be amazing and like nothing you have seen before. She hasn’t been doing that as often, but when she does, it blows my mind away. She does have a good eye for fashion. Currently, her little doll house is set up like a boutique and an animal spa. It’s very cute and don’t let her catch you touching it for there will be hell to pay.
I read this to both of them and the nephew kept making gross out sounds and for the fashion road kill he laughed gleefully. He was sort of a spoil sport. He gave this 1 star and I think that irritated the niece a little bit and so she gave this 5 stars in retaliation. It would probably be more like 3 or 4 stars without the taunting nephew. Perfect for anyone into barbie fashion.
I didn't like this Fancy Nancy title much at all. Yes, little girls might like to dress up their dolls and have fashion shows... but Nancy is a wee bit entitled in this book, and it's kind of a turn-off. When she and Bree decide to have their Spring Fashion Fling, they invite all their neighbours... and then inform Nancy's mom that brunch will be served. (It looked like it was a surprise to her, too. Better get busy, Mom!) Also, getting ready for the fashion show is the main part of the story, so there's not a lot of plot. Even after something goes wrong, there's really no solution, per se; they just continue. The book ends with all the adults drinking champagne. (Well, Nancy's mom probably needs to drink at this point; she must be exhausted after throwing together a last-minute brunch for eight people.)
The illustrations are done by yet another artist, and I really don't like them. There's something about the way the faces are drawn in this book that's a bit too simple... or something. JoJo is usually really cute; here, though, she's just a generic toddler. (Oh, and Mom and Dad showed up for brunch in the clothes they were wearing for gardening, while all the other guests were dressed nicely. I'm not sure if they were too lazy to get changed... or if the author was too lazy to draw them in something else!)
M has watched the Fancy Nancy TV show. This book seems like it has fewer words and a slightly simpler plot than some of the other Fancy Nancy books, so it was a great choice for a three year old.
4.25 stars Oh this book--what fun! Fancy Nancy has a special place in my heart. I love that she is cute, creative, fun, adventurous and an amazing little girl. Can she be mine? I love the whole idea of a spring collections for their dolls, made with real flowers. What I also like about the Fancy Nancy series is when something bad happens, Nancy dusts herself off and gets back to work. She doesn't moan, or mopes, she works it out! Yeah Nancy!
Fancy Nancy is back in this colorful story about Fancy and her friends creating new dresses and preparing a fashion show. Fans of Fancy Nancy will love this new title!
This was our first Fancy Nancy book and we were hooked! My little one is a little younger than the characters (2), but I love the 'fancy vocab'. My little lady LOVES words and this series is a great way to broaden vocabularies!
She says “oh, la, la!” Fancy Nancy trips and falls and she is a cool artist. - My 4 year old is a big fan, and we found this treasure at the Library. A fun short read, very colorful and perfect for spring.
