Dr. Travis Stork is an Emmy(R)-nominated co-host of the award-winning talk show "The Doctors" and a practicing board-certified emergency medicine physician. He graduated magna cum laude from Duke University and earned his M.D. with honors from the University of Virginia, where he was elected into the prestigious honor society of Alpha Omega Alpha for outstanding academic achievement. Born and raised in the Midwest, Dr. Stork is a fervent believer in helping patients feel empowered when it comes to their health. Dr. Stork practices what he preaches and likes to teach by example, biking to work every day, rain or shine. While he doesn't expect individuals to give up their cars, he is passionate about enlightening individuals on simple ways to attain and maintain good health based on their own life and circumstances. He believes that oftentimes, when people come to the E.R., it's already too late. That's why he takes such pride in teaching people how to avoid preventable illness before it happens. Most people don't realize that they make over 200 health-related decisions every day that dictate how well and how long they live. Dr. Stork believes health is not about the gym or a deprivation diet; health is achieved by focusing on those seemingly inconsequential 200-plus decisions people make throughout the day.

First and foremost and indeed also definitely personally appreciated, I do find it very much cheering and positive that Travis Stork’s presented and so-called Doctor’s Diet is obviously not meant to ever be rigidly one-sided and dictatorial with regard to the types of foods allowed.

For Stork’s Doctor’s Diet is basically far-reachingly diverse and generally quite omnivorous (albeit equally a diet that obviously can also easily be adapted to entirely leave out meat, dairy and eggs), variable, with a multitude of food choices, and with the two main rules being against regular and constant over-indulgence and against consuming too many highly processed ingredients and foods, including it seems, most vegetarian and vegan burger and cheese options (since supposedly these are often very high in sodium and use rather many artificial ingredients), and thus, that when grocery shopping, we also and of course need to increasingly be looking at the ingredients to make sure that for example we are indeed getting whole wheat and that there are no or at least not too many added sugars and other additives. And although most of the presented recipes in The Doctor’s Diet Cookbook: Tasty Meals for a Lifetime of Vibrant Health and Weight Loss Maintenance are and do promote cooking from scratch, I also like that Travis Stork does not for instance automatically assume that we will start baking our own bread and making all of our own soup stocks, and yes, that as already mentioned above, we do need to be much more savvy with regard to what goes into prepared, ready to eat groceries, that the cereals, the breads, the soup bases, the yoghurts we purchase are as natural as possible and contain no or at least increasingly less ingredients that will add especially extra sodium and simple sugars to our meals, to our diets.

Four quite solid stars for the general featured list of diverse and delightfully appealing recipe and meal suggestions as well as for the many possible alternatives (often how to increase protein, how to lower fat or ways to render a given recipe meat free or indeed also a few instances of how to add a bit of meat or fish to a vegetarian or vegan recipe) and of course also for the fact that Travis Stork is neither too pedantic nor too lax in The Doctor’s Diet Cookbook: Tasty Meals for a Lifetime of Vibrant Health and Weight Loss Maintenance, but unfortunately now lowered to a high three star average ranking because yes indeed, the complete lack of any photographs of the end products, of the prepared meals is in my opinion a pretty annoying and frustrating lack and shortcoming (for in my opinion, the latter is, accompanying photographs should really be a total must for ALL cookbooks).

I love the Doctor's Diet and could not wait for the cookbook to come out. Fortunately, I was given the opportunity to preview a copy.

The author did a great job of coming up with fresh new ideas and adding some old favorites. An example of what you will find: spaghetti and meatballs; oven-fried chicken; eggplant parmesan; doctor mac and cheese; cauliflower crust (pizza); beef and broccoli stir fry; veggie burgers; quicksidillas; Mexi chicken bowl; and pancakes.

There are recipes for breakfast, easy lunches, main meals, dips and spreads. I love how he not only gives a recipe for something like scrambled eggs, but then he goes on to suggest numerous additions to make it different so you aren't eating the same thing all the time. There are many inventive people out there, who come up with great ideas like that, but I am not one of them. I really appreciate when someone else does the work for me.

The only thing that disappointed me about my preview copy was that nutrition information and calorie counts aren't included. I don't know if that is something that will be added.

I've read/reviewed a lot of diet cookbooks in the past and I have to say, this is about as perfect as it gets. A huge range of recipes, all with tips, substitutions, easy to read ingredients, not too cumbersome directions, and great (but not weird or strange) variations of favorites. Clearly, a lot of work has gone into this - from the color photography (nicely grouped together for quick reviewing to choose something to make) to the remarkable versatility and mutability of the recipes. Count me very impressed.

The book breaks down as follows: a quick introduction then Breakfast; Dips, spreads, salsas, and sauces; Soups; Salads; Veggie full sides; Whole grain sides; Mains; The new comfort food, Snacks, Sweet treats. At over 240 pages, there are a lot of different recipes to explore - with a guarantee they will be healthy.

What I appreciated is a very comprehensive view of everything in the book. As if respecting that most people who need a diet book probably eat a lot of packaged food and don't necessarily have a culinary background, tips and preparation accompany nearly every recipe. Toasting nuts, blanching/frying/steaming vegetable choices, making chicken wings crisp, getting creative with chicken salad, and more. Every recipe includes a tip or long list of substitution options. It's a great way for finicky eaters to not feel they can't follow healthy cooking simply because they don't like a certain ingredient (e.g., I'm not fond of avocados or mushrooms).

Each recipe has a bold orange header page, serving size, introduction, ingredients list with orange plus symbols and plenty of paragraph spacing for easy reading, numbered and short paragraph steps, tips in a call out box(such as substitutions, make ahead suggestions, recommendations, tips, suggestions, etc.). Some recipes may have a whole page of recommendations/tips - such as Huevos Rancheros Scramble recipe has an accompanying page with tips on cooking eggs without a skillet and 10 different variations to dress up the eggs). All the recipes feature very large type, making it easy to read while cooking or shopping. The entire book is beautifully laid out.

The accompanying Doctor's Diet book was excellent. This cookbook far exceeded my expectations and clearly a lot of thought and intelligence went into its making. It's better than most non-diet cookbooks I've read. Reviewed from an ARC.

“You think of diet, you think of deprivation, you think of misery, you think ‘this is going to be painful.’ But the one thing I want people to understand is you can be healthy and still love food. You can actually use food as your medicine – not your poison – and enjoy it and lose a lot of weight doing it.” Dr. Travis Stork.

When it comes to weight loss, I am pragmatic. The only viable solution is to reduce caloric intake and move more. There is no magic pill (believe me, if there were, I'd take it).

When I realized I had an imperative to lose a significant amount of lbs, I knew a fad diet wasn't going to work. I knew if a plan were too restrictive that I'd lose my resolve, and in our household we wanted not just to trim our waistlines but to change our way of eating permanently to feel better. I investigated some different diets (Dukan, South Beach, Atkin's) but found them restrictive and nutritionally suspect. The Doctor's Diet was an epiphany because Dr. Stork gives sound, inspirational, scientifically proven information on health and nutrition. Importantly, his diet is not only extremely appealing but nutritionally balanced, and it was easy to see how once I had lost the weight I could go on eating with the book as a template for the rest of my life. The meals are also easy to prepare and that too was paramount with working full time. I needed to be able to make meals and pack lunches and not spend hours and hours cooking.

So far, in approximately 2 months, I have lost 16.5 lb and plan on losing 7 more. Many of the recipes are delicious and, importantly are a nutrition power house. Two servings of fruit are allowed, offering vital antioxidants and fibre, as well as dairy, whole grains, modest servings of protein and of course, tasty vegetables. The Doctor's Diet Cookbook is a welcome extension to the Doctor's Diet, offering many delicious, nutritious dishes that are easy to prepare for busy working people. I cannot recommend The Doctor's Diet and the Doctor's Diet Cookbook enough. I try to refrain from being evangelical about things but if you are looking to lose pounds in a healthy and happy way, Dr. Stork's books can provide inspiration and vital information devoid of fads or deprivation. The satiety on the diet, incidentally, is excellent, (because of the emphasis on protein and soluble fibre) even on the more restrictive stat phase. I look forward to using the Doctor's Diet Cookbook, adding healthy dishes in to our repertoire. It is a winner and the perfect companion to the Doctor's Diet.

Travis Stork has done a real good job with his newest book, The Doctor's Diet Cookbook.
I enjoyed previewing all the recipes from this book. Thankfully Travis provides some information about eating and the different foods you should eat and shouldn't eat. He lets you know of alternatives which are healthier which you can substitute for the normal ingredients we use.
One thing that I like is he described why you might want to add protein powder to a shake. It was something I did not know. (Take a look at the book to see the hint.)
One thing that I did not care for was that when I downloaded it to my Kindle app, it did not work well. The recipes were all messed up, and they were hard to decipher. They will probably fix it by the time you are able to read it.
Fear not, the downloaded version to Bluefire Reader worked extremely well.
I received a free copy of this book in return for my honest opinion.
I gave this book 4 out of 5 stars

THIS EBOOK IS A PRE-PUBLISH DATE COPY, PROVIDED FOC FOR A CANDID REVIEW

This book is difficult to review since I took it at face value; A recipe book for healthy eating. I had no knowledge of the programme it is part of, also, my kindle copy was not formatted correctly, with random words and fonts, no table of contents, and pictures appearing as blank blocks.

That said, it's content is good. The advice is sound, "ungimmicky" and easy to follow. The recipes are straight forward and even my 2 fussy eating daughters have promised to try a few in place of some old favourites. What I especially liked was the lack of preaching you get in some healthy lifestyle books.

Based on this, I would look out for the full programme, however I think this a book where you need a paper copy to flick back and forth with, the ebook copy if not so flexible

This should be a favorite for anyone who is serious about getting serious about healthy living. It is filled with tons of information pertaining to health and wellness. In my opinion, the author did a great job of presenting variety with regard to recipes, as well as providing suggestions for those who have alternate food preferences. I particularly liked the extra tips that were sprinkled throughout.

I found this book to be a great resource that was easy to follow and realistic for my lifestyle. Without question, this book will go on my favorites shelf, as well as on my must-have-the-hard-copy shelf. Salute!

I think this is a good cookbook that anyone would like and be able to use. It has a lot of good recipes and nutritional tips and information. I liked that it has some recipes marked S for simple and others are marked A for adventurous when you want to take your cooking to the next level. There are also some super simple recipes marked Dr. T's Gourmet on the Go for when you have no time to spare. The recipes cover everything from breakfast to main dishes and sides, sweets and snacks and also the new comfort food. It's a cookbook that I enjoyed reading as well as looking forward to using a lot of the recipes.

Great book that gives smart tips and wonderful new healthy twist to recipes you already know. I tried this book after trying Melissa Costello’s "the Clean in 14 Detox". Both books had similar ideas and after cleaning my system for 14 days, the "The Doctor's Diet Cookbook" has given me the opportunity to continue on a healthy diet. The recipes are delicious even for kids. Though the "detox" is not for all, this book will keep you and your family on a healthy living style. The book itself though is pretty colorless and has no pictures making it often hard to "feel like eating" since you don't see what the recipes offer.

This book contains good information on eating for general health. It has some interesting recipes with simple ingredients and uncomplicated instructions. I found them to be more for snacks, sauces and salads and not many for dinner entrees. I can't actually comment on any of the recipes as none of them appealed enough to me for me to try them. I think single people might find these recipes useful but I did not see many that are family-friendly. I was provided a digital copy of this book by Netgalley in exchange for an unbiased review.

I am really impressed with this cookbook. Typically a diet cookbook seems to consist mainly of recipes I wouldn't touch with a ten foot pole.

This one, however, is a down-to-earth, real food, cookbook that is healthy. To be sure, there are still those recipes I will never, ever eat (such as Broccoli and Mushrooms with Cauliflower Cheese Sauce) but then there ones that I cannot wait to try (and it's not just the desserts!).

This is written in easy to understand language and is fairly interesting, as well.
