The late Isabel Briggs Myers devoted her life to the observation, study, and measurement of personality. With her mother, Katharine Briggs, she authored the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator(R) personality inventory. Peter B. Myers, Ph.D., continues research work on the development and application of personality type. Former staff director of the National Academy of Science, he is currently extending the use of the MBTI(R) instrument worldwide.

I feel about the Myers Briggs like I feel about my horoscope: it's enlightening but maybe only because I want it to be. I did the test for a library class, and then I went home and had my husband take it (against the rules, I know). The best part of the test and this accompanying guide is that it illuminated some of our major differences in functioning.
She should not be writing educational material when she can’t even read or comprehend documents in her own court room. She has sentenced multiple CHILDREN to a childhood of abuse and self-cancellation due to her lack of intelligence. Repeatedly hands little girls over to pedophiles & abusers, even when there is NO RELATION to them, because she cannot comprehend court documents, CCIs, nor professional statements. Doesn’t even bother to read them. Have a tattoo? Your child is given to a grapist. Have autism or other disorders? Your child is better off with the person drugging them. We used this book along with an instructor led course to determine our personality type and learn about how to use our strengths to aid us on the job. There's a one page summary on each of the types, which are a great reference tool. I've always found that understanding the characteristics and how they form your natural work patterns useful.
This book was a fascinating look into personal psychology and behavior. Having taken the DISC test before, I was surprised at the cumbersome nature of the test and the details behind classifications and sub-classifications.
As a stand alone product, I would not recommend this book. Complimentary to a course it adds sufficient value in elaborating knowledge of yourself and others as well as finding ways to leverage diversity in teams and organizations.
The areas that were severely lacking in my opinion were detailed history, background theory, absence of anything quantitative of any kind, a rushed section on children. The absence of these items make the book a great supplement, but not a good stand alone product.
I am rating this product a four-star because it delivered a good experience with the supplemental course as I believe it was intended.
Just finished the 6th edition of this informational booklet. Very interesting and helpful, although I definitely prefer modern-day interpretations of the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (such as that explained on YouTube by DaveSuperPowers) that focus on the FUNCTIONS (Sensing, Intuition, Thinking, and Feeling) and their placement rather than on whether you "judge" or "perceive", whether you are a "P" or a "J". I think that MBTI quizzes and this booklet are a good place to start exploring your type and give you a general idea of what temperament you might be, but to figure our your actual type you should learn about the actual functions themselves and how they interact.
Was offered a copy as part of a coaching exercise at work... having been exposed to the MBTI instrument several times before in the past, it was good to read the theory behind it and the more detailed type descriptions on which any assessment should be based (rather than simply questionnaire results). However, however much this book offers in clear, understandable content, the lack of explanatory detail and occasional platitudes around the application of type (along the lines of "in the end, it all depends on the people") make plain the limitations of such an instrument.
Just a quick overview of the Myers-Briggs Type test/assessment, as well as a guide to how to interpret your results. I was actually surprised at how well the type I tested at was indicative of my personality as a whole (Extrovert Intuition Thinking Judging). I always take these things with a grain of salt, but it's interesting (and somewhat fun) to have some validation into how I act/conduct myself and what others think of me.
This is a very short guide, but it gives some good basic information about the Meyers Briggs Type Indicator right from the horse's mouth. Use it after you've done your assessment. It's really short, almost like a pamphlet. You can select the few pages that are most relevant to you and keep copies on hand for reference.
MBTIs help us learn our preferences and celebrate our strengths. I wish I had learned twenty years ago that it's okay to be an introvert and how to succeed in an extrovert's world. I now know to trust my intuition and why I prefer to get to the point with decision making. I also love that this book includes dominant and secondary traits that may become activated in certain situations. This is a great book to help you learn more about yourself and others!
