Promises in Death

Amaryllis Coltraine may have recently transferred to the New York City police force from Atlanta, but she’s been a cop long enough to know how to defend herself against an assailant. When she’s taken down just steps away from her apartment, killed with her own weapon, for Eve the victim isn’t just “one of us.” Dallas’s friend Chief Medical Examiner Morris had started a serious relationship with Coltraine, and from all accounts the two were headed for a happy future together. Eve starts questioning everyone, including Coltraine’s squad, informants, and neighbors, while Eve’s husband, Roarke, digs into computer data on the dead woman’s life back in Atlanta. To their shock, they discover a connection between this case and their own painful, shadowy pasts.

Kindred in Death

When the newly promoted captain of the NYPSD and his wife return a day early from their vacation, they are looking forward to spending time with their bright and vivacious sixteen-year-old daughter, who stayed behind. Not even their worst nightmares could prepare them for the crime scene that awaits them instead. Deena has been brutally murdered in her bedroom, and her body shows signs of trauma that horrify even the toughest of cops, including our own Lieutenant Eve Dallas, who is specifically requested by the captain to investigate.

I used to drive a truck all day and was really excited to find so many JD Robb titles on CD audio! I love the series and have only missed a few titles (an issue I will soon correct). It was so sad for Morris to lose his love interest, but that added a lot of emotion and motivation to Promises in Death. More connections to Eve and Roark's pasts... I don't want to write a spoiler.
Kindred in Death is a "who done it". Robb does a great job in the series by mixing up the plots rather than them all falling along the same lines. In some novels we know who, just can't find him. In this one we know why, but not who. Follow the clues... can the reader solve it before Eve does?
A couple of books I had to listen to straight through.

It is the 1/2 sister to Alex Rickard whose father is in an off planet prison who killed Amaryllis out of hatred for Alex. His father and hers instigated it.

Weird " guilty pleasure book" as most of these books are. Light relief for me when in the middle of deeper, better written and more thought provoking books. Five stars because I would recommend for escape, and fast reading to get back to the comfort of a really, really good book
