True evil is rarely obvious. It is quiet, patient.
Insidious.
Awaiting the perfect moment to strike.
Joy Malone finally knows who she is, where she comes from and how to live in two worlds at once. And now she can introduce her family and friends to her mysterious boyfriend, Indelible Ink. But when Ink's twin sister, Invisible Inq, calls in a favor, Joy must accept a dangerous mission to find a forgotten door between worlds—a door hiding a secret that some will kill to keep.
Unseen enemies, treasonous magic and an unthinkable betrayal threaten both the Twixt and human worlds as Joy races to expose an ancient conspiracy and unleash the unalterable truth—some secrets cannot remain secret forever.
The role of Dawn Metcalf will be played by the tall brunette in the off-the-shoulder, floor-length leather straitjacket. Makeup by Clinique, buckles by Jada Pinkett-Smith, hair by Jim Henson's Creature Shop.
I have no good excuse for the way I write. I lived in a normal, loving, suburban home, studied hard, went to college, went to graduate school, got married, had babies, and settled down in northern Connecticut. Despite this wholesome lifestyle, I've been clearly corrupted by fairy tales, puppet visionaries, British humour and graphic novels. As a result, I write dark, quirky, and sometimes humorous speculative fiction.

"Behold The Destroyer of Worlds"
Insidious is the third installment in author Dawn Metcalf's The Twixt series. Protagonist Joy Malone started this journey into the world of the Twixt 6 months ago after being stabbed in the eye by her paramour Indelible Ink. Why you ask? Because she has the ability to see the folk like him. Since then, Joy has learned a whole lot of things including that she isn't totally human. She may either be a changeling, or a halfling.
Once again, Dawn Metcalf did a great job! I was afraid that a third book, would make the story to start to get lost. But, it didn't! It got even more interesting! As always, the story is a crazy mess! But you can't stop reading! I still think that, Jon Malone's human life, is quite annoying! Her dad and her best friend Monica, totally unnecessary! Even her brother, Stef, sometimes is very annoying! I mean, he is a wizard, know about the Twixt, and keep acting like a ten years old kid? He needed to find his lost boyfriend to get a focus on the things?! Anyway, Jon is real badass! I like how she is smart! I also really like Ink! He is getting even better and better! Becoming more human and bold! By the way, a huge good point in this book, for me, it's we DON'T have triangle! Thats the kind of cliché, that ruins lots of books! Well, I'm looking forward to the next book, but I hoped it would be the last. The writer is great, but I hope she won't let this story get too long and lost.
Based on how Invisible ended, and considering what the title means, I believe this will surpass the first two books by a few leaps and quite possibly a bound. Cannot. Wait.
DNF @ pg 172. There's no real point in continuing on if I'm not going to finish the series. I have to really be into something to read it these days, and sadly I just can't with this.
I finally got back into this book after having started it my senior year of high school. I forgot how much I loved the characters, character development, and how wonderfully the plot is presented giving us piece by piece more information so that we figure out what's going on exactly when the characters do. Love this book! Loved the Ending!
Insidious is the third book in the Twixt series by Dawn Metcalf. This book picks up I'm guessing just a short time after the events in Invisible. Joy is one of the twixt and she is starting to change. The changes are freighting at times and exhilarating, she and Ink are together and better than ever and of course there is a major plot underway to destroy everyone. Joy is still in the center of everything and she will do things her own way, crazy, reckless and well intentions.
Things I Love: I loved the relationships in this book, Joy and Ink are such an incredible cute couple, Stef and Joy have an awesome sibling relationship (and Stef past will come back), the other friends that rally around Joy when she needs them and finally it's the relationship between Joy and Monica (Joy's best friend). After everything Monica has been through is still has faith in Joy and their friendship and it touching to see how close they are. One of my favorite things about fae books is if the author knows how to create a magical, wonderful and terrifying fae world. Dawn has a talent when it comes to creating worlds and the scenes she created in Insidious were amazing.
Things I didn't Like So Much: I was confused about the time-frame, Dawn mentioned times but then things went into a weird time warp place and things made little sense when it came to how thing occurred in the time-frame. Also, where was Monica, I know Joy is part of a new world and she has a lot of stuff going on but I would have loved to see more of Monica and Joy together.
Overall: Insidious was a perfect addition to the Twixt series, the characters grew and the scenes grew more wonderful and the plot more deadly. People grew closer, secrets are reveal, a death and a deadly enemy is uncovered. I have the last book, Invincible in my possession and I am going to try to hold off reading it for now, I want to savor the end of this series.
I am really sad to know there is going to be another book because I was super excited to see how everything would turn out. The book is really addicting and filled with action, answers to missing questions, and new characters such as Avery. I feel that the things that I disliked about the books, such as obvious solutions that they seem to ignore, Joy's immature tantrums for the consequences she wrecks on herself, and how so many more questions brewed up without answers.... all still pales to the vivid descriptions of the world of Twist, the multiple character developments shared, and the way the plot grabs and holds your attention. I have to admit to a slight crush on Ink and Inq. The are really so original as characters and the more I read about them the more I am hoping the author takes a chance in delving into their thoughts someday.
In book 3, Joy Malone has comes to terms who she is and navigate living two worlds at once. She is now able to introduce her invisible boyfriend Ink to her family and friends.
But no sooner when things seem normal, Ink’s twin sister Inq calls on a favor. Joy finds herself in a dangerous mission to find a forgotten door between worlds. This door hiding a secret that some will kill to keep hidden.
Unknown enemies threatened the Twixt and the human world, as Joy must expose an ancient conspiracy and unleash the unalterable truth that people had died for. There are some secrets that cannot remain secret forever and Joy must be the one to discover the truth.
An enjoyable read as we are taken back to each world along the journey.
This book took me a while to read because of school. Anyway, when I entered the giveaway I didn't realize that this was the 3rd book in the series. That backfired for me a lot. But, I figured "why not just read it anyway?" So that's what I did. Parts were a bit confusing because I had no background from the other stories, but I made it through. It was a bit spooky, but I liked it. The plot was in good shape and the characters were well written. But, most of all I am in love with the cover. The cover is absolutely gorgeous! All in all, it was a good book, but you should probably read books 1 & 2 before this one. Oops.
First off I was a Goodreads first reads winner with this book. Ok here's what I thought. It was absolutely amazing! Though I wish I had read the first two before this one but I didn't realize it was a book 3 lol no matter it was so awesome! I definitely want the first two books now. I was absolutely sucked right in regardless of not reading the first two books. I love how there's danger and love and family issues I mean to me it made it that much more real! It was a great read and I'm absolutely ecstatic that I won it and found a new favorite author!
In book 3, Joy faces some intriguing challenges, including finding a forgotten door to a world that's been hidden away, as well as figuring out how she has changed herself by taking on her fae nature. This was an excellent book, with continued character development, excellent twists, and good plot development. I can't wait to read book 4 and would recommend the entire series to anyone who enjoys fantasy books.
This is amazing. I loved the first two because they are not your typical YA books. The romance in an undertone not center stage and there is so much conflict other than the lovey dovey kind. We have literal battles and internal conflict and plots against our main character. This is just sooo refreshing. The ending was a cliff hanger and I CAN NOT WAIT FOR BOOK 4!
The plot in the Twixt thickens. Joy isn't quite accepted into this world yet and this book hosts her coming out ceremony. I like it and the storyline but I'm starting to lose interest in the relationship between Joy and Ink. The world still has my attention though, looks like things are about to change.
There are direct references to: "Pinocchio," within the story line(calling Ink a Real Boy). As Mark Carver, Ink is now able to be seen by Joy's father and her friends. Inq, Ink's sister gives Joy an impossible task: either kill the person who created the curse affecting Twixt or brake the curse itself.
After the last book, I wasn't totally sure I was going to continue with this series. I'm glad I did go ahead and read this one. I love the originality of Metcalf's imagination. And I love Ink! He's creepy and sexy, not an easy feat.
Putting this at 3.5 stars right now, simply because it took me ages to get through and I don't think I ultimately liked it as well as the previous two. But wow, can you say "ominous ending"? 'Cause seriously.
Magic and mayhem! Intrigue abounds! A huge mystery, political maneuvering, the joys and sorrows of becoming one of the Twixt, AND a cliffhanger ending! This book was a wild, wild adventure, and I loved every single moment.
This book was full of action. Glad to have finally read it!!! Missed Ink so much. We finally get to find out what happened after that ending in Invisible!! Plus some more juicy things that were the focus of this book. Just awesome! Sad about Enrique though...
