Often times, when I’m reading a book I added to my TBR months before and finally get to it (and especially if I’ve already read the prior books in the series like this one), I don’t reread the back-cover or info blurb. So needless to say, I was just as blindsided as Johanna with Parker’s news in the first chapter. I think you could have knocked the two of us over with a feather.
I’ve been looking forward to this book, but for some reason it’s taken me months to get to it—but I’m so glad I’ve finally read it! I really liked both Johanna and Parker as main characters and their hunger for the Lord. The faith content was strong throughout this whole trilogy, but this one was super strong and I really loved that element.
I will say that I found the villain to be a little too basic—that is, a standard villain. Just an average one with the very normal goals and personality of a villain. An easy one to dislike, if you will. I found myself annoyed by him, but also feeling bad for him at times. I didn’t love the ending regarding him, but it made sense.
I think it’s a bit odd that this series hasn’t been connecting. We see a few mentions of the prior couples in this book, but that’s it as far as it goes. What really connects this trilogy together is a side character’s POV who is easily my favorite character with her matchmaking (Marvella). There is the bonus of not having to read the previous two books before this one, but I would have loved to see Rebecca and Mark and then Carter and Ellie more and see what was new with them.
As a final note for this review, my favorite parts—and the best parts, in my opinion—was definitely all the faith content. Nearly every page of the book had prayers, conversations, or thinking about God, callings from Him, and following Him, which I just adored. I also really liked our main couple and seeing them fall back into love.
This wonderful historical book is set in 1905 in Kalispell, Montana. A young couple in love gets a second chance for a reunion ten years after a broken engagement. Parker felt a call on his life to be an actor, and Johanna felt called to be a preacher's wife. So, when Parker's acting troupe came into town ten years later, they found they still had feelings for each other. However, not without opposition from Johanna's devious brother-in-law. I loved the characters (especially little Emily), the action, and the Biblical message that was so inspiring to me. *I was given a copy of this book by the publisher, and this is my honest opinion.
Johanna had always dreamed of being a preacher’s wife, but when Parker, the love of her life, decided to leave the ministry, Johanna walked away. Ten years later, she’s a widow with a young daughter, and Parker unexpectedly returns to town. But the questions remain: Does she still have feelings for him? And does he feel the same? As Johanna navigates her past emotions and motherhood, a new threat emerges, someone is targeting her for reasons she can’t understand. As the mystery unfolds, Johanna must decide if she can risk her heart with Parker again, especially after walking away once before. Can they overcome the past, or will it repeat itself?
This story is a beautiful, slow-burn second-chance romance, filled with healing, faith, and hope. It was especially meaningful to me since the main character shares my first name. I’m so thankful to have had the chance to read and review this sweet, touching story.
I received a complimentary copy. This review reflects my honest opinion.
“I have the right amount on my shoulders. With God as bearer of my burdens, I neither struggle nor strain. I am blessed to have Him as my stronghold and refuge.”
Faith abounds in this second chance romance, with a good does of danger and suspense and of course a twisted villain.
Joanna has had some trials and they seem to just keep piling on. I loved that she didn’t back down or cower. Her strength, determination, and faith were beautiful. Her realization of her love for Parker and her growth in her faith and listening to God’s leading heart-warming. Her Emily is a precious little girl. Em’s interactions with Parker left me in a puddle. 🫠 I liked Parker’s determination to be a witness for God in his profession. His growth and steps in faith were amazing and his love for Joanna swoony. I loved Parker’s mother. What a wonderful example of listening, praying, encouraging, and gently directing a child (even a grown one) to their faith and purpose in God.
I loved seeing Judge Ashbury’s protective side and Marvella’s matchmaking is a delight. Her “hat wars” was so fun. The epilogue was fantastic!!
A few quotes: “I fine, Mama. Daddy found me.” Daddy? Johanna raised an eyebrow at Parker. He smiled and shrugged. “She said it. But I am happy to take on the title and role, if you approve.”
“God has given me a new calling now.” “And what is that?” She smiled. “To love you.”

This was a great second chance romance. It is the third and last in the series, and works as a standalone. Although you do see a little bit of characters from previous books. Parker and Joanna were supposed to be getting married until God seemed to be calling them different directions. However, 5 years later, they meet again. Joanna got married but is now widowed with a 3 year old daughter. Parker made it pretty big in show business and the show he is apart of is traveling through town. I loved that they were able to reconnect and find love again. They were such great characters and I loved that they listened to God. I also loved how Parker took her daughter as his own so quickly and cared for her. Overall just a great story and I definitely recommend! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book which I received from the author. All views expressed are only my honest opinion.
A love that encompasses long years apart and a lot of life lived in those years. Parker and Johanna’s story is one full of deep, abiding love that spans the years. Finding each-other after the years apart and growing on their young love is so sweet! Though trouble tries to thwart their love from taking off, God orchestrates His will perfectly. Marvella is such a fun character, I will miss her witt and banter, and Judge Ashbury was so endearing in this book! Such a heartwarming end to this series. A great reminder that God gives us such unexpected grace if we just look for it!
What do you do when you love someone but you feel the call of God on your life makes your love incompatible?
That’s the question Johanna and Parker face as they meet again 10 years after a painful breakup. Johanna is convinced she is called to be a pastor’s wife. Parker feels the Lord calling him to share the Gospel through the theater.
But they are both challenged about their presuppositions about the other when their worlds collide again. Johanna is a woman of strong conviction & has a lot of responsibility on her shoulders, especially after her husband unexpectedly passes away.
Parker has found life on the road to be wanting, and begins to dislike the man he’s becoming now that he’s famous.
But the Lord shows again and again that hearts can be healed when they are open to Him and His grace. I loved this sweet second chance story, the thoughtful way Johanna and Parker consider each other and how the Lord works on their hearts. Marvella is a hoot, and glimpses of other characters from the previous two books make this a wonderful tie off to the series. If you’re looking for a solid story rooted in God’s truth and relatable characters, I highly recommend AN UNEXPECTED GRACE!

This is the third book in this lovely series that takes place in Kalispell, Montana. Each of the books in this series really are stand alone. Only one set of characters carries forward--and they aren't primary.
This book is clearly the conclusion of the series based on how it ends. It was a good conclusion. Unlike many other books on the Christian fiction market, you can always count on solid biblical based fiction with characters striving to get closer to God.
The plot--it honestly was pretty predictable. But that's okay. It's good to have low key books that you know will have happily ever after.
Of the three, I liked this one the least.
3 stars as it was just okay. :)
*thank you to NetGalley and the publishers for an ARC of this book. All opinions are my own.
Johanna Easton was set on being a preacher's wife. When Parker Bennett shares he has decided to become an actor instead, Johanna ends the relationship. A few years later, Parker returns to town with his traveling acting group and learns Johanna is a widow. The town matchmaker is determined for them to rekindle their romance.
They are both lovely characters, but perhaps the most well written and engaging character is the villain James, brother of Johanna's deceased husband. James is ruthless while trying to put on a friendly facade.
Nice conclusion to the series with a beautiful cover.
My gratitude to the authors and publisher Bethany House for a complimentary copy of the novel. I was not required to post a review and all opinions expressed are my own.
This was my first time to read a book by either of these authors, and it was fantastic! I enjoyed the story arc of Johanna making a decision on whom to marry when he drops unexpected news on her at the last minute. I enjoyed reading about the lives of actors and actresses of the stage before movies were a thing, and Johanna's work as a millinery, something I'd never heard of since I'm new to historical fiction. There were so many fun characters, from Marvella the matchmaker, to Judge Ashbury's protective nature, to the villainous brother-in-law, to the well-written three-year-old daughter.
It was a rollercoaster ride from low-key moments to times of light suspense. I liked that it's technically a romance, but the authors didn't bonk readers over the head with heavy romance themes.
I didn't read the first two books in the series before reading this one (and I will for sure go back and read the first two after reading this one), but I was able to follow the story just fine without having read the series.
If you love Christian historical fiction, you must add this one to your to-be-read pile!
A sweet historical romance offering a second chance at love if two people will just accept it. Set in the heartwarming, beautiful little frontier town of Kalispell, Montana, with the historic MacIntosh Opera House as its backdrop, this story has intrigue, suspense, a complex villain, and compelling characters who will live with you long after you finish the story. It recommend this book to anyone who loves a good, Christian, historical fiction. I give this book five stars and highly recommended it. I received a complimentary review copy of this book and am writing this review voluntarily.
I loved returning to Kalispell Montana, and 1900 for the third installment of this series. This could be subtitled: Marvella makes match number three, because Marvella Ashbury, the judge’s wife, has a romantic heart and wants to see a second chance for Johanna and Parker. Johanna and Parker have a history which turned out to be disappointing. A widow now, Johanna has invested in a hat shop and is caring for her daughter and father. But soon things get to be too much to handle. Enter Parker, who has returned from a career as a famous actor, and James, her brother-in-law, who has a nefarious reason to want to wed Johanna. The love is still there between Johanna and Parker and they both want to honor God however, there are those who are plotting against them. Full of interesting historical details, fascinating characters, complex family dynamics and with danger lurking, this book kept me turning pages until the very satisfying conclusion. * A complimentary copy of this book was provided by Bethany House on behalf of the authors and via NetGalley. I was not required to post a favorable review. All opinions are mine alone.*
Loved this last Kalispell novel! Johanna is still grieving the death of her husband, when an old flame from her past and the brother-in-law both show up trying to win her over. Parker was her first real heart break and it is amazing what he has done with the traveling troupe, but she never wanted that life and she cannot even think of anyone else but Gerald still. James St. John is bound and determined to care for his widowed sister in law and his niece but Johanna doesn't seem to want to give him the time of day. Stepping in to care for them is only right after the death of his brother, how can she not understand that? As Johanna struggles with being a single parent and these two men, she realizes that each might have their own reason for trying to win her heart but who will do right by her? Can she get past her grief to love again and give her daughter what she needs most, a father figure in her life? Another great heartfelt read and I really enjoyed the theatre backdrop of the story. Thank you to the authors for the complementary novel and being a part of the launch team. This review is of my own opinion and accord.
An Unexpected Grace, by Tracy Peterson and Kimberly Woodhouse is the third book in the Jewels of Kalispell series. This is an enjoyable story that is well written and easy to read. It is a clean romance that also contains likable characters with touches of suspense and mystery. Feeling called to be a preachers wife, Johanna ends her relationship with Parker when he decides to joins a traveling acting troupe. She is recently widowed with a young child, living with her father and running a hat business. After a very long absence from home, Parker is back with his group to perform shows. This is an enjoyable story. I enjoyed how Johanna and Parker are able to rebuild their friendship and how they help each other in the process. I found the mystery and suspense with things happening to Johanna and her family kept me reading to see who was behind the event. I especially enjoyed how Johanna realizes how important Parkers acting is. I found the matchmaker to be a fun addition to the story and appreciate how supportive her husband is to her and her matchmaking. I voluntarily received a complimentary copy of this book, this is my honest review.
Another great book by Tracie Peterson and Kimberley Woodhouse. Reading the conclusion of this series was so satisfying, and I can easily say that Marvella is one of my favorite characters ever.
4 stars because while I loved the suspense in this book, some of it was just a little too neatly packaged.
Will Parker and Johanna be able to build a future together, or will the past repeat itself?
This story is so heartwarming! The characters felt like dear friends, each relatable in their struggles and triumphs. I love Johanna and Parker's dedication to glorifying God in their callings and everyday lives. Johanna's daughter, Emily, added such a sprinkle of joy to the story—she is just precious.
This Book is For You If You Enjoy: - Immersive historical fiction that transports you to another time. - Sweet, second-chance love stories. - A dash of suspense that keeps you on your toes. - Relatable, lovable characters. - Strong themes of faith interwoven throughout the storyline. - Clean, wholesome fiction.
I received a complimentary ARC from the publisher. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
This book was everything I expect from these authors. A faith filled story, lovable characters and fantastically woven intrigue and a bad guy you love to hate.
This is the third book in the series and was by far my favorite! I couldn't get enough of the town and it's people. The theatrical elements were wonderful to read about as well as the rich history of the time.
*thank you to Bethany House for a complimentary copy of this book. All thoughts are my own.
An Unexpected Grace is a wonderful story with themes of second chances, growth, and faith. I love books with these themes and knew these authors wouldn’t disappoint. I enjoyed witnessing God’s plans play out and Parker and Johanna’s reconnection grow and blossom. Their journeys are inspiring, and I loved seeing their connection deepen. I especially enjoyed Johanna’s transformation.
This historical romance has relatable characters and a lovely foundation of faith. The story is well-paced, the romance is sweet, and there is just the right amount of lighthearted moments to balance everything out.
If you enjoy well-fleshed out characters, a historical setting, and a second-chance romance, you’ll find this an exciting, inspiring, and satisfying tale.

Beautifully written historical fiction with wonderful characters and really bad villians set in Kalispel Montana. Inspirational with unique plot and surprises. Definitely worth the read!
The history of Kalispell, Montana, has definitely come alive for me while reading this latest series from the dynamic duo writing team of Tracie Peterson & Kimberley Woodhouse, and An Unexpected Grace is such a fitting wrap-up for the stories we’ve watched unfold there. Particularly the matches made at the hand of the inimitable Marvella Ashbury, though not before she invests in one more couple. And oh how I loved Johanna and Parker and watching them find their second chance at happily-ever-after.
Before I talk too much about the events of this book, I have to gush over an adorable scene stealer – Johanna’s daughter Emily. This sweet little pumpkin totally captured my heart and made me smile with her endearing voice (and yes I heard her in my head while I was reading, and you can’t tell me otherwise lol) and precious demeanor, even when she was being a typical three-year-old. I wanted to pick her up and hug her and sneak her candy (sorry, Johanna) and read to her and do all the auntly things with her. And watching her with Parker? Oh be still my heart! Those two were so cute together and completely melted me – I’m still grinning over a couple of scenes.
One of my other favorite things about An Unexpected Grace was Parker’s unique profession, at least for a historical romance hero. I loved that he was a stage actor – and a talented one – and applauded him for obeying what he felt was God’s calling for his life even when it cost him dearly. In fact, throughout the story, the authors deftly explore several nuances of following God’s call, including how He sometimes shifts our callings as we move into new phases of life, a truth that has played out more than once for me as well. I found it so profound and very sweet that the separate paths God initially led both Johanna and Parker down were good ones that brought them joy and fulfillment… until such a time as they intersected once again. Sometimes the ‘second chance’ trope can imply that the protagonists can’t find true happiness without the one that got away, and it was refreshing to see the opposite reflected here.
Bottom Line: An Unexpected Grace by Tracie Peterson and Kimberley Woodhouse is a sweet romance with intriguing history, engaging characters, compelling themes, and even a dastardly villain or two to keep you guessing! I fell in love with Johanna, Parker, their families, and precocious little Emily, and I enjoyed watching all the pieces for their second chance at a first love come together like one of Johanna’s gorgeous hats. Getting to hang out with Marvella & Judge Ashbury again (but especially Marvella) was icing on the cake, and the epilogue left me with a smile in my heart. Dare I hope we might see Marvella and the judge popping up again in books by these authors?
(I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book)
I can think of no better way to describe this book than me being glued to the pages! Tracie Peterson and Kimberley Woodhouse together has written a book that is engaging, exciting, on the edge of your seat kind of story.
Joanna Easton is a wonderful asset to all who know her. Caring and compassionate, a widow and a mother to her sometimes spirited and sweet little girl, Emily and caring for her aging father keeps for busy as well as running her millenary business for the town's ladies. Joanna's husband Gerald passed away unexpectedly, and she is faced with being the sole provided for her family.
Parker Bennett is returning to Kalispell, Montana his hometown with his theater troupe along to perform for the community a version of Uncle Tom's Cabin. When they were younger Joanna and Parker had thought they would be together forever but when the acting bug bites Parker he gives up his calling to be a minister in exchange for bringing the words of Christ through his acting. Parker is on his way home wondering if meeting Joanna again will find a place for him in her heart.
As the story unfolds Joanna is cautiously excited to see Parker again, but much has changed in her life. Ten years has been a lot of time to mature into a different person, or has it?
Joanna has her hands full when her brother-in-law James proclaims it is his job to take care of his deceased brothers' wife and child. James will go to no ends to get what he wants even if he has to lie, cheat, and steal to get it and that being his father's estate. I won't spoil that part of the story for the readers but it's an exciting and suspenseful part of the storyline and makes this book a real page turner. James uses whoever and whatever he can to persuade Joanna to marry him, but he becomes distraught when he realizes that Parker and Joanna might just have a rekindling of their past relationship.
Parker while loving the theater begins to understand that his acting has not brought about the messages of God he wished to reflect on his fans and feels his heart being pulled in a different direction than acting on a world stage and he must choose between that world and the one his heart truly wants.
This book is truly exciting and one of those edge of your seat reads. Every single character is engaging; every scene is well written and leaves the reader with a sense of faith and love at its end. This is book three in The Jewels of Kalispell series and is easily a standalone as well.
I received a copy of this book from the publisher and was under no obligation to post a review.
"An Unexpected Grace" is a Christian romance set in 1905 in Montana. This is the 3rd book in the series but can be read as a standalone. Ten years before, Parker went to seminary, intending to marry Johanna and become a preacher in Kalispell when he finished. Without consulting anyone, he quit school and accepted a position as an actor in a travelling acting troupe, mainly performing Shakespeare. He expected Johanna (whom he knew felt called to marry a preacher) to happily marry him--love is enough!--and create their family on the road. She's shocked. That wasn't what she agreed to, and she called off their engagement.
When he returns 10 years later, he's growing tired of traveling, misses his family, and realizes that fame hasn't presented him with the opportunities to present the Gospel that he'd expected. Johanna's still wonderful, and her daughter's charming. He once again made his decisions about his future without consulting anyone, which made things hard on Johanna, who loved him but thought a relationship meant she'd have to join his traveling lifestyle with a toddler and a father who needed her help.
At the same time, Johanna's dead husband's brother was determined to marry her despite her repeated and clear statements that she would never marry him and didn't trust or like him. He's determined to force her into accepting him, either from financial need or to stop his threat of accusing her of being a poor mother and so take her daughter from her. Happily, Johanna asked for help from the Judge (her friend) and had friends in the community. The villain descended into insanity, determine to kill those she loves--like that would convince her. The end got a little far-fetched. Also, the villain's ability to prevent Johanna from learning of her inheritance (which he wanted) seemed unrealistic to me.
The romance was predictable but enjoyable. The villain thought himself very clever but was illogical and stupid. I liked Johanna, but I was exasperated that Parker didn't learn from the past and discuss with Johanna his changing feelings about life as a traveling actor. Johanna trusted God despite the hard things happening to her family. There was no sex or bad language. Overall, I'd recommend this book to fans of the series.
I received a free ebook review copy of this book from the publisher through NetGalley. All opinions expressed are my own.
The dynamic duo of Tracie Peterson & Kimberley Woodhouse have done it again, wrapping up the Jewels of Kalispell series in a big beautiful bow! An Unexpected Grace is a heart achingly lovely story of second chance love with a dastardly villain threatening to destroy it all. Romance, suspense, & faith abound when the local hometown son returns after years away with his acting troop to share his talents.
Parker Bennett was supposed to return to Kalispell after seminary school, marry his sweetheart, & take over for his preacher father. However, while away, he was inspired to pursue a different path. As a talented actor, he felt called to share the gospel through his performances. His would be fiancée couldn’t support him in this, so he left to pursue a successful acting career. Now ten years later, he’s returning home to perform the play that made him famous. Seeing his first love again though brings back all the tender feelings. Can he persuade her to give him another chance?
Joanna St. John was heartbroken when Parker left, but she found love again & married another man. Now widowed with a three year old daughter, her heart begins to open back up with Parker’s return. But, someone will go to any lengths to dissuade her from marrying again. As strange things begin happening to Joanna & her small daughter, will Parker be able to protect them both.
I loved this story! The romance between Parker & Joanna is a slow burn delight. There’s a lot they need to work through & neither one wants their heart broken again. Joanna struggles with her loyalty to her deceased husband & her rekindled feelings for Parker. I loved the spunky Marvella who’s determined to see these two back together. I also loved Joanna’s sweet daughter Emily. Parker is so cute with her.
The mystery & suspense kept me quickly turning the pages. I was on pins & needles the whole time. The villain is particularly selfish & cruel. He’s determined to have Joanna for himself for his own purposes. It was so rewarding to see him finally get his comeuppance.
Highly recommend! Though part of a series it can easily be read as a standalone. I received an advanced copy from the publisher with no expectation of a review. All opinions are completely my own & voluntarily provided.
**If you are not familiar with this series, the Jewels of Kalispell are historical buildings/businesses in Kalispell, Montana, that are still standing and being used today. This third book is about the Kalispell Opera House.
The dynamic writing duo of Peterson and Woodhouse has done it again. This was a truly awesome read. And for a guy whose favorite genre' is Christian suspense, that is saying a lot.
Of course all of these authors' books have a villain, so there is always a bit of a suspense. And they created a great villain in James, greedy and evil brother-in-law of the widowed Johanna. I kind of felt bad for him at times. It wasn't his fault the authors created him to be the villain of the story. :)
And the story....great plot, and great and likable main characters. Who doesn't love a second chance romance? And this one was a great one. There was the struggle of Johanna to reconcile still loving her first love, while still loving her deceased husband, and Parker, who had never stopped loving her.
The authors wove a great story around the opera house and theater troupe, adding in romance, Biblical truths, hope, and threads of suspense. All of that combined with some history resulted in a great read that could be held up as a standard of Christian fiction. This book did not just entertain, it made me think on Bible truths and God's will.
I cannot end this review without mentioning Marvella, the judge's wife, matchmaker extraordinaire, and a very amusing and colorful character who was in all the books. She was awesome, and I loved the ending of the book where she got credit for all of her successful matches.
I loved this series, and this final book was a great conclusion to this awesome trilogy.
Special thanks to the authors for an advance copy of this novel. I was under no obligation to provide a review and the thoughts contained herein are my own.
Peterson and Woodhouse are a powerhouse of a combination and this is another very well crafted Prairie Tale from them. Actor Parker Bennett is back in his home town of Kalispell after earning fame travelling and performing. It's wonderful to be home, but he has to face Johanna St John, the woman who was his first love but who walked away from him when he announced his plans to act instead of be the preacher she believed he would be. Now a widow with a young daughter, Johanna has changed from the young girl he first knew, but it's soon clear that they once again are attracted to each other. But Johanna's brother in law James is far from happy about this turn of events, and it's not long before things in Johanna's life take a dangerous turn.
A clever book, this has plenty of intrigue to keep the reader interested, even though you know the 'baddie' will get his comeuppance in the end! The start was a bit awkward for me as I'm not sure I really believed in Johanna turning her back so easily on someone she allegedly loved deeply, because of his differing hopes for his future career. However once past the early chapters I found the story gripping and enjoyable. The characterisations are really well done and it's nice to see people from earlier books in the series reappearing, although you can easily read this novel without having read the previous ones. I did like the way the whole series was wrapped up at the end though. I think my favourite characters are Marvella and Judge Milton Ashby and I will miss them!
A combo of two powerhouse authors makes for a great story.
Parker Bennett has spent a long time away from home as a performer and is almost afraid of what he will find when he gets back. It doesn’t take long being home before he is face to face with the first woman he ever fell in love with. Feelings come crashing back hard and he can’t help but have hope that it might not be too late for a second chance at first love. Johanna St. John has been widowed for three years and trying to survive with a young toddler and helping her injured father. When she sees Parker, she doesn’t want to get her hopes up at a second chance at love.
Tracie Peterson and Kimberley Woodhouse have teamed up once again to craft a fantastic historical romance full of witty characters, a storyline that is hard to put down and so much more. Peterson and Woodhouse are two of the most well known in Christian fiction for a reason, they write well and pull readers in with each page. Parker and Johanna represented those looking for a second chance at love, a group of readers that will be strongly connected to the story. That is the best thing about this story, the way readers will connect to the story and characters. This is a story that readers who enjoy historical romance will not want to miss.
I received a complimentary copy of this title from the publisher. The views and opinions expressed within are my own.
An Unexpected Grace by both Tracie Peterson and Kimberley Woodhouse is an engaging, heartbreaking, and uplifting read. It is written by two of my favorite historical Christian fiction writers. I cannot tell who wrote what in this novel. All the pages are flawless. The characterization is amazing. I felt the heartbreak of Parker telling Johanna and his family about his desire to act. But just like his family, Johanna is shocked by the news and cannot accept her first love's new direction for his and her future.
To Johanna that new future seems to me uncertain and unstable for anyone. Therefore, she leaves him and years go by without ever speaking to each other. Johanna's life has moved forward. Marriage, a child, and her husband has passed away. She is struggling to take care of her child, father, and herself. But she knows she's in God's hands. However, trouble and a blessing unknown to her come her way.
It is great God has brought Parker back to his hometown just in time. Danger, lies, betrayal, and murder are in the making. Johanna and her little girl are in danger. Overall, I love how faith, family, love, and second chances are tied together in this romantic historical novel. Well-done! This third book was wonderful!

An Unexpected Grace by Tracie Peterson & Kimberley Woodhouse ⭐️⭐️
• Thank you to Bethany House for the free copy! •
This was a sweet and comforting read, but it definitely won’t be for everyone. If you love historical Christian fiction with a side of clean romance, this might be your cup of tea. For me? It was giving ✝️✨ preachy and predictable — not my vibe. That said, it had some nice moments, and I did like the setting and the quiet pacing. 🤍⛰️👒
Likes: • Lovely Kalispell, Montana setting 🏔️ • The second-chance romance was soft and tender 💌 • Little Emily stole every scene she was in 👧 • There’s a hat shop. I repeat: a millinery! 🎩 • Light mystery thread added some tension 🔍 • No spice, no angst — just warm fuzzies 🙃
Dislikes: • Very heavy Christian themes — it felt like a sermon in book form 🙏 • Parker and Johanna’s “conflict” didn’t really hold weight 🥱 • The villain was very obvious and cartoonish 😅 • Way too many convenient plot devices 😬 • Definitely felt like a final book in a series — lots of wrap-ups and cameos 🧵
• Final thoughts: If you like clean, comforting Christian reads with second-chance romance, this might work for you. But if you’re looking for originality, complexity, or depth, this probably won’t hit. For me? Just okay. 🌾📖💒
This is a book that became a page turner for me, yes it was a bit predictable at times, but I enjoy the way this author weaves a story. Johanna St. John has experienced a lot in her young life, she has loved and lost and loved again. She lived the life she dreamed of and has a precocious two year old daughter, Emily. Parker Bennett has left Kalispell, and has been doing what he thought the Lord wanted him to do, acting and sharing the God's word. As this story begins life has changed for both the main characters, Johanna is now a widow and struggling to raise Emily and make a living. Parker has gotten his team of actors to come to his hometown and paths do cross. There is another man whom wants to woo Johanna, her brother-in-law, he is a successful lawyer, and has a lot of plans. I did need answers and the pages flew, were the answers what I wanted? Will justice come for those whom are doing Evil? Answers come! I received this book through Net Galley and the Publisher Bethany House, and was not required to give a positive review.
Sometimes you just need a good story to occupy yourself with... Peterson and Woodhouse have written a number of books together now and I have enjoyed each one that I have read. I have a soft spot for a book set in Montana, since that is where I was born and lived for almost half my life. The characters in this one are relatable, if a bit predictable, but I think most people are to a degree. There were several moments where I was eager to press on and find out what was coming next. Yes, it's a typical romance where you know the characters are eventually going to end up together. Yes, it's Christian and very faith-filled. Yes, it was an easy and quick read. All of those are reasons why I will absolutely pick up a Peterson-Woodhouse book any time I need to unwind and enjoy a quiet moment reading. Really enjoyed all the books of The Jewels of Kalispell series! I am so glad that I was allowed to read an advanced copy of this story and I am more than happy to leave my honest review.
