Sixteen-year-old Holly Hart wants to be a star. She moves to Los Angeles from the small town of Cedar Junction, only to hear she’s too fat and ugly to be a famous singer.

But when Shell Shocked Records looks past Holly’s plus-size and less-than-graceful-personality to offer her a recording contract,Holly cannot believe her good fortune. On closer inspection, however, the the record execs want Holly to do all the singing, and a thinner and more beautiful girl, Lacey, would lip-sync and get all the credit. Holly goes for it because after all, she wanted to sing.

Contractually bound to secrecy, Holly is more than happy to sit backstage while Lacey shimmies in the limelight and basks in the fame. Before she knows it, Holly is friends with Serena, the pop-star daughter of a music-mogul, flirting with an intern, and developing a strange half-friendship with the seemingly bipolar Lacey.

When Grayson Frost, the biggest country star in America, and coincidentally, a former school bully begins dating Lacey, Holly hopes they won’t recognize or torment her.

Through a series of embarrassing and weird events, Holly gets to know Grayson and learns that he is much nicer and more mature than he was four years ago. Holly is horrified when she starts falling for him. When Grayson admits he fell for Lacey's voice, what is a girl to do when she can’t legally tell the truth at the moment when the truth matters the most?

I received Holly Hearts Hollywood in return for an honest review as part of the tour hosted by Chapter by Chapter. Holly may not be popular, has been bullied her whole life but she can sing. When her youtube video just happens to capture the attention of a big recording studio Holly isn’t thrilled because she doesn’t want to be in the spotlight. After an accident that left her with a broken leg she put on some extra weight so she doesn’t look like the skin pop stars. When the recording studio wants a contract for her voice but they have someone else in mind to be the face of her music she’s hesitant but does it anyway.

All Holly has to do is sing in a sound booth which isn’t so bad she finds out, it’s Lacey the face of the music that has to spend her time in the media world. Holly isn’t sure about Lacey because she comes off as the diva she thinks she is but the more time the pair spends together they find a unlikely friendship. As if Holly doesn’t have enough to worry about the boy who started out bullying her just happens to be a big country singer who the recording studio plan to sign. Holly hopes to avoid Grayson at all costs but as he starts dating Lacey it becomes harder at least he doesn’t recognize her or does he? Will Holly’s secret come out? Will she find that maybe time really did help Grayson grow up from the mean kid she remembers so well.

I loved Holly right from the start she’s such a sweetheart even after all the bulling she’s put up with over the years. She I like the way she grew as a character she started coming out of her shell even seeing Lacey for who she is as well as Grayson not what she thought he was. I love that Holly keeps a journal it made her feel more relatable for me. I found her easy to connect with and I joined her on the emotional roller coaster. I wasn’t sure about Grayson or her other potential love interest Keller but I think it all worked out in the end.

I signed up for Holly Hearts Hollywood because I’m a huge fan of cute contemporary romance. I wasn’t sure what to expect I remember glancing at the synopsis but it wasn’t fresh in my mind when I started reading other than the cover it was a blank slate of awesomeness. I enjoyed the story and found the concept intriguing two girls using their strengths to create one Country singer. The author uses Holly’s journal addiction to tell the story it’s all written from her point of view which I found unique and interesting. I found Holly Hearts Hollywood a fast paced coming of age romance novel it was hard to put down I was so hooked on Holly’s story. I enjoyed every moment of it finishing in just one afternoon, I only wish there was more I wasn’t ready to let Holly go yet. I hope we will see a second book in the series wishful thinking. A clean novel that teens as well as adults will enjoy perfect, for a lazy afternoon.

Ever wanted your fifteen minutes of fame and posted a video of yourself on Youtube ? Holly Hart has an amazing singing voice and has always dreamt that one day she will be a star. Turns out that her voice is going to be a star but not her per se as she is offered a recording contract . Holly Hart though does not fit the singer profile but her voice is amazing so Holly's family and her move from their small town Cedar Junction in Iowa to LA and Hollywood where she signs a contract to be the voice. Soon Holly finds all her dreams coming true including making new friends and famous ones at that and becoming a star - well sort-of. As the novel goes along though, Holly starts to wonder whether being famous is all that it is cracked up to be and then finds herself stuck in the middle as she doesn't know whether she should be lumped with the interns as she's technically not an intern or hanging out with the real "celebs" as she's not officially famous.

Holly Hearts Hollywood is a nice teen read with a feel that reminds me of The Princess Diaries crossed with A Cinderella Story: Once Upon a Song. It is also a book where the main character starts to find herself and who she really is and climbs out of her shell.

If you are looking for a fun read that has a musical note to it , then check out Holly Hearts Hollywood. The content in this book can also classify it as a Clean teen read.

This book had me in stitches. Holly is hysterical in her thoughts. So refreshing to see. The book is Holly’s journal of events. From the moment her youtube video went up until the realization that she doesn’t feel she is strong enough for a decision she made although I think she is and everything that happens in between.

Holly is this fun sweet girl from Iowa with a amazing voice. Discovered by a recording studio for her voice she lands in LA. She thinks she’s getting the best of all worlds. Being paid for her voice but not having to be in front of the crowd. Crowds petrify her. Singing doesn’t. So the deal the studio gives her is perfect. You sing and we have the perfect person to perform. That person being Lacey. She is a diva to say the least. Lacey has times where she is kind but mostly just selfish and demanding. I think that the ending isn’t really the end. Lacey left some thoughts hanging that mess with Holly and that was just wrong. Lacey wants what she wants and doesn’t care who she plows over to get it. I think Holly is the one she is going to plow. Don’t get me wrong Lacey shows some vulnerability at times and even kindness but I don’t think that is Lacey. With her what you see is what you get and I can understand why Grayson didn’t like what he saw. He saw beyond the looks and looked at the person inside and inside not pretty.

Serena is Holly’s new best friend. her other two Amanda and Meredith who are a hoot are in Iowa dating each other and causing a stir that is until the QB is caught with his boyfriend. those two are fun loving and a breath of fresh air at the best times in this book. they help alleviate Holly’s anxiety and troubles. So Serena is a popstar and just a great person. she helps Holly with everything and supports her no matter what. She doesn’t judge but only sees the good.

Grayson was Holly’s tormentor as a kid. Now he is a superstar and trying to show Holly he has changed. He really likes Holly and Holly likes him but this is where it gets dicey. the studio loves him with Lacey. they are touring together and it can hurt his career if he doesn’t. Holly and him are forced to make some tough decisions and I do wonder if they can survive it all in the end.

the writing is so fun and light it keeps you laughing and smiling as you read the tale of Holly in LA and how she finds new friends, becomes more secure in who she is, finds love and also wonders if she makes the right decisions along the way. A fun clean reading book that just kept me laughing an smiling as I learned more about Holly and who she is.

Holly Hart isn’t your typical girl. She’s over weight and has face full of acne. Surprisingly or not (if Susan Boyle has taught us all anything its not to judge someone’s voice by their appearance) she has an amazing voice. After sharing a video of herself on YouTube singing she has caught the attention of a record label in LA. Holly isn’t popular if you couldn’t tell by her description but she’s got two really cool friends Meredith and Amanda they are their towns token gay couple. Her grandparents don’t care much for her mother not since their son, holly’s father died.

So when she flies to LA from Iowa she’s sad but it’s not like she’s leaving behind much. At the meeting it’s revealed that they want her voice not her. They want a milli vanilli situation. And she agrees to it. After some struggle. And omg how have I forgotten to say this. Holly Hearts Hollywood is completely written from Holly’s journal. First few entries I assumed that’s how it should be and somewhere around the middle it occurred to me that we never got out of the journal. This didn’t bother me one bit however I was very curious, like why didn’t anyone just snatch the journal out of her hands. How did no one get a hold of it and expose her. How did she write while in a vehicle? I get car sick maybe I’m just envious.

So yeah she agrees do this to be the voice from a puppet. And the puppet is kind of a bitch. She treats Holly like crap but other times she is almost friendly. Shes a mess. Lucky for Holly she’s made a great friend with the record execs. Daughter Serena. Serena is a really cool chick and I was happy Holly had someone like her on her side. Since Holly is just the voice she is forbidden from telling people that she is the voice. Only a few people on and Serena is one of them. Theres also Keller who I wasnt fond of from day uno. But Ill let you form your own opinion on that dude. Obviously Hollys life changes drastically shes her friends from Iowa are still there and still as supportive as they can be considering they don’t know and think shes just interning. And then Greyson steps into the picture.

Greyson TORMENTED Holly growing up and now they are label mates. Holly hopes he doesn’t recognize her and by all accounts she has been successful. UNTIl he lets her know hes known all along. Not only that but he likes her!! And like im torn because he’s this huge country star but he seems really humble and genuine when they are together. BUT he did a lot of damage to her more than I think even he realized. PLUS hes dating the face, the puppet Lacey.

I read this book in like a few hours once I started I just couldnt/wouldnt stop. I mean I just had to keep on going. I was reading assuming its a stand alone so I at one point Lacey does SNL and well I was waiting for the Ashlee Simpson moment. I’m not telling if it happened or not. I’m kinda a jerk that way. So yeah I believed it to be a stand alone and when I got to the end. I was ssooo convinced I was missing pages the story couldnt END like that. It just COULD NOT END LIKE THAT. So I did what any other person would do and I tweeted Kenley. Im happy to say it is a SERIES! HUGE HUGE sigh of relief came from this girl. While it wasn’t really a cliffhanger ending it left a lot of questions unanswered and well created more questions. I’m so excited to continue with this story.

If your looking for a great one sitting read this is so the book for you. I didnt get up for 4 hours sure I was a little sore but it was totally worth it.

Oh my goodness, I love this book. I read it in one sitting.
I knew I would love it when I read the synopsis. Holly Hart is a girl with a golden voice. Unfortunately, according to the big time music industry, she simply doesn't have the look. So they devise a plan. Holly will be the gorgeous country voice behind beautiful Lacey Bennet's face. The catch is, of course, that no one can know. Not Holly's best friends back home. Not her crush, Keller, Not obnoxious Grayson who used to bully her in school but is now a big time star himself. No one.
Aside from the story (which, of course I loved), I found myself laughing out loud at Ms. Conrad's writing. I even highlighted some of my favorite quotes.
"Oh my God, I have a crush on a boy with a delicate facial piercing."
"What was with my sudden ability to flirt? I'm diseased."
"All he needed was a puffy shirt and a top hat and my Jane Eyre fantasies would have come true."
"My heart was in my BUTT and my stomach was in my throat."
Seriously, this book his hilarious. I also loved all the pop culture references, especially to Criminal Minds (one of my favorite TV shows of all time) and Harry Styles. Come on. Even if you say you don't love Harry Styles, you love Harry Styles.
I highly recommend this book to fans of Meg Cabot and Rainbow Rowell. Those who love witty, self-depricating, and honestly, very relatable protagonists will enjoy Holly Hearts Hollywood. Please tell me there's a sequel!

Holly Hearts Hollywood is the journal of Holly Hart. She was an insecure, overweight, high school senior. She made a YouTube video and now she is signed to a record label. Well her voice is signed. Record executives felt she had the voice but not the look. In a brand new city, Holly has a lot to cope with, family issues, self identity, bullies new and old, and falling in love.

With each note from Holly, we delve into the average mind of a seventeen year old girl. the tone is evident of someone who is unsure about where there life is going, basically how we all felt our final year of high school. Naturally, with living in Hollywood there are scandals and Holly is no different. At times you are laughing with Holly, other times, you are sympathizing. By the end, you are deeply invested in Holly's life that you want to continue reading her journal.

Kenley Conrad penned a tale that every girl can relate to with Holly Hearts Hollywood. Her unique writing style is authentic to the character and easily draws you in and holds you even after you finish reading.

Holly Hearts Hollywood is a great light read for anyone looking for a little bit of love, laughter and a dash of romance. Kenley Conrad does a good job of writing a story that is light and funny that will have you captivated and hooked. I absolutely loved the POV that the story is told in and it allows you into the mind of Holly and definitely allows the audience to connect with the main character. Conrad does a great of job connecting the reader to the characters so that they are emotionally invested in what happens to Holly and Grayson.

Holly Hearts Hollywood is a must read for anyone who loves the YA genre and a bit of Hollywood Romance.

This was an absolutely fabulous novel. I loved it. The diary entries made Holly seem so much more real to me as a reader. And Grayson? Oh my! Definitely swoon worthy.

There’s so much more to this story than it seems. It’s about a young girl who’s dealing with self-esteem issues, being overweight, and learning to love herself. She has a strong voice that grows as we watch the story unfold. Teens will love it as it hits home for many of their own issues.

Add a cast of characters that will leave you laughing, crying, and wanting to throttle them, it’s the making of a fabulous new series and I can’t wait to read more!

This story was fun, and while I wanted to scream at Holly a few times for selling herself short, I also completely identified with her and loved going along for the ride with her... until the ending. I can handle a cliffhanger, but this was a cliffhanger among cliffhangers and ambiguous to the max. So, I immediately asked Kenley if there was a sequel, and there is, so I'll be looking forward to that... but until then, I just don't have enough resolution of Holly's story. Knowing what I know though, I'd still read it now.

This was a really cute, light read with some deeper undertones. The characters were fantastic (mostly) and the plot was really fun to read about. There were some doubtful elements but they certainly didn’t make the story any less entertaining. Would I read more by this author? Definitely. Would I recommend this book to others? Definitely.

This was adorable! I loved the journal style of storytelling. Holly felt very real and relatable to me. I also liked how each of the secondary characters was so well fleshed out and didn't fall into the stereotypes I expected. The pop culture references were fun too - I pictured Holly totally immersed in the Los Angeles music scene. Looking forward to reading more from this author.

I enjoyed this one and apparently it's going to be a series. No other news on the next but this one does end of kind of a cliff hanger. Looking forward to the next one just so I can find out what is going on. 3.5 rounded up.

**I received a digital copy of this book from Chapter by Chapter in exchange for an honest review.**

I'm still a bit confused what to feel about this book because I thought this was going to be like some forbidden kind of thingy like "Another Cinderella Story" featuring Lucy Hale but it was not exactly what I wanted. Though there were some pretty funny moments but this book didn't live upto my expectations.

After hearing Holly's voice in YouTube, Shell Shocked Records offered her a recording contract but it has a catch, she can't come infront of the camera and some another girl named Lacey would be the front face and will lip-sync her songs and get all the credit. Holly agrees to the condition because she hates being the centre of attraction. But then Grayson come into the picture, her former classmate and a bully. As she gets to know him, she realises he has changed a lot and also that she can't help but like him. She wants to tell him the truth but she's bound in a contract. And on top of that the executive of Shell Shocked tells Holly to stay the hell away from them. It's upto Holly to decide if she wants to keep intact the contract or her friends.

I thought the concept was going to be executed in a different way. But unfortunately, it wasn't. When someone is a singer, I think the voice matters the most and not your size. I don't think I've ever criticised a person who has a gorgeous voice but is a plus size. Like who even cares when you have an awsome voice! But this was not the case for Holly when Shell Shocked offered the contract to her only if she agreed to be behind the camera. I was outraged or you can say dissapointed, that she even agreed to this and even her mom was okay with this! Like seriously, WHAT THE HELL! This thing was what that bothered me the most, I thought there was going to be some more unusual circumstances under which she had to agree to this ridiculous demand. Other than this factor, the book was quite enjoyable and even hilarious sometimes. The was not much forbidden romance as I had expected (I wanted that, you guys know I'm a sucker for forbidden romance) , I wanted to see more communication between them, somehow the connection between them felt empty.

The characters were... umm good! I can't say I couldn't exactly connect with Holly because I did. I liked her voice and I could connect with the insecurities that she felt but still that doesn't mean you could make that stupid decesion! I liked the friendship between Holly and Serena, the executive's daughter, who's also a singer. She was a great character. I didn't like Lacey much, she was a snobby character. She did have a good side but she usually liked being a bitch. Grayson was somewhat okay, we didn't see much of him in the book, so I don't know what I exactly feel about that guy but like I said I wanted more communication between him and Holly.

This book was totally written in diary format but it didn't actually follow the full style because there were too many dialogues. I don't know why the author bothered to write it that way because it would've been fine if it was chapter wise because it totally looked like that. So yeah, it kinda bothered me at first. I thought I was going to DNF it but I carried on. The writing was simple and easy to read and the pace was slow at the beginning and even throughout the rest of the book.

Overall, Holly Hearts Hollywood was a book that I somewhat liked. The concept and the writing style bothered me but the characters were good and I liked the friendship aspect of this book. It was funny and hilarious sometimes. The writing was simple and the pace differed a little throughout the book.

Recommend it?

Yes if you like this kind of storyline.

At first, I was disappointed to see that there wasn’t much music-related scenes, but being able to read what it’s like to be in the Hollywood scene was amazing. As the novel progressed, I found myself wanting to keep on reading. I especially like how Holly’s thoughts were written through a journal. It makes me feel more connected with her, maybe it’s because you don’t let others read your journal because it’s really personal.

Holly was very relatable for me because she was stuck in between both worlds. She doesn’t know if she should hang out with the interns because she’s not really an intern or with the famous ones because she’s not a celebrity either. She’s a person who has low self-confidence, and is afraid of other people’s judgements towards her. She’s always afraid on how she’ll fit in and all that stuff. I totally found myself in her. Moreover, she struggles with her feelings (especially love) and with some issues in her family. It was great seeing her being able to balance all these things well. Besides, I love how she hyperventilates and rants. It was really adorable and cute. Although, there were some times that I was annoyed at her because of the decisions she makes. It also made me sad that she doesn’t keep in touch that much with her friends back in Cedar Junction.

Serena, one of Holly’s celebrity friends, was amazing. She was a fun person to be with, and she complemented Holly’s personality. The two of them can be a great dynamic duo. It was just sad that she didn’t appear that much in the latter part of the book. I found something fishy with Keller from the start, so I felt indifferent, but it was cute seeing the first few interactions between Keller and Holly.

Grayson was another story. Until now, I don’t know if I’m going to like him or not. His decisions are confusing, and some of it aren’t what I typically think or see from stories, which I’m glad for. Even though he’s a celebrity, I find that he’s still a teenager despite all that fame, who still struggles with all the things that surround him. Among all the characters, I think Lacey was the one who took the complete 360 degree turn. Lacey and Holly’s friendship was really weird, but I liked how it progressed as the story continued to unfold.

Despite all these, I think some parts could have been intensified more, or maybe I’m just not used to reading light stories anymore. Nevertheless, Holly Hearts Hollywood is a nice, easy and light read that is about finding oneself and learning how to break out of one’s shell. I can’t wait for the next book (I hope there will be one!) because it kind of ended cliffhanging. Phew! Oh, and I absolutely love the cover; it’s simple but it’s so pretty to look at!

It took me a little bit to really get into Holly Hearts Hollywood, but once I did, I couldn't stop. The novel is a light read that a variety of YA fans will completely devour. It's funny, fabulous, and all around an enjoyable read.

I loved the POV of the novel and how it was told. The diary-style entries really allow the reader to connect with the main character, and it was so refreshing to have them be realistic, as Holly actually comments on the time she takes to write everything down. Not to mention, Holly has a wonderful voice. She isn't perfect, and she definitely isn't the average character, but this just makes her easier to relate to. She has such a strong personality that really shines through the writing, and she behaves and talks like a teenage girl  - which is always nice.

The rest of the characters were just as strong, and I loved the complexity behind them. I ended up changing my mind about some characters multiple times before their true colors really showed through. Grayson is a total heartthrob, and if he were an actual celebrity, I would most definitely be a fan. (And I don't like country music. I vote showtunes.) Although Amanda and Meredith were not in the majority of the novel, I thought that their relationship and personalities could steal the show. This novel definitely contains some unforgettable characters, and I can't think of one that wasn't well developed.

Some parts of Holly Hearts Hollywood may be a bit stereotypical, but any cliches are immediately forgiven by the humor or some swoon-worthy thing that Grayson does. (I can't stay mad at him.) Between that and Holly's voice, the pages really do keep turning. It definitely wasn't my intention, but I nearly finished the novel in one sitting.

I think that Holly Hearts Hollywood is a wonderful YA contemporary, and a fantastic start to a series. I love the characters and the concept, and the ending left me desperately begging for more.

CAUTION AHEAD: MILD SPOILERS (I think)

As the rating from Goodreads says "3 stars", or: I liked it.
Sweriously, I did. I read the blurb and was like: I gotta read this book! Yet there were some things that didn't fit with what I believe in, or what I usually like in a book: make that the "diversity" or "lesbo" part of the book and also the (kind of) cheating. You may be able to blame it (or not) on the late-hour reading, but all in all, that was what took away the 2 stars.
Besides that, I really liked some parts of it: starting with the characters, Holly is great, yet really has to get over her insecurities! You #GoGirl!! You deserve everything that label has to offer! (were it not for those conditions...). Also, I liked Serena, but kept missing her through the progression of the book, as it's Lacey's friendship the one who is going to start being developed the more. I had really begun to like Lacey, and to understand her a little more (or as far as the book allows), but with that (kind of) cliff-hanger end, I guess we're back to square one.
Only character that kept me confused all along was Mr. Frost. Is he just stringing Holly along? or has he really changed? Guess there are some parts that could have been more developed where he is concerned (as character or in his background story), and yet, he ended up as a nice, sweet and, at times, romantic-hero guy.

All in all, guess we'll find out more on the sequel that's just been released Holly Hearts Headlines.
And if this review doesn't make much sense, blame it on the late hour.
Last but not least a Thank-You-shout-out to author Kelly Oram for the gift, all the way from Peru :D

For me this book certainly had promise. I was instantly drawn into the world of country music and the girl who didn't necessarily fit the prevailing image. This book would resonate with young people who long for the music career, and I do believe that it demonstrates exactly how different the life of a celebrity is. In fact, the ending was quite disturbing, and I can only hope that the author plans for a sequel. I believe she captured the naivety of Holly, and I was certainly cheering her on to become who she really was supposed to be. I would say the book is more realistic and eye-opening than I first believed it would be.

My only criticism is that there is some profanity that does not belong in young adult books. This was become a disturbing trend in young adult novels, but I'm grateful this book contains no bedroom scenes. While the ending does appear to be realistic, I would have liked to have had some kind of commentary on Holly's last decision. I don't know how well young adults like unsettling endings, but if a sequel is planned, then this may not be an issue.

I was sent a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review. I was not financially compensated, and all opinions are 100 percent mine.

Holly Hearts Hollywood is going on my favorites list! This is a great story with awesome characters! I heart Holly in this book! Her journal entries make her more personable and lovable. Her personality and her self-esteem also blossom as the story goes on.

I already knew that Holly signing on to be the voice behind Lacey was going to be an absolute disaster but I could understand why Holly jumped on such an opportunity. She still gets a recording contract and still gets to sing but she doesn't have to be out in the limelight. Someone else gets to do all of that legwork. It sounded great in theory but I knew it was just a matter of time until something blew it all up. When Grayson steps into the picture and admits that he fell in love with Lacey's voice, I swooned and cringed all at the same time.

Following Holly on her journey through Hollywood and on her journey finding herself was a roller coaster ride of emotions. I am pretty sure I laughed, teared up, and cussed at least one character in this book before I got to the end.

I can't wait to read more from Kenley Conrad!

(There are going to be more books, right??)

This book had so much potential to be awesome. Great female character, great story. But then everything felt unfinished. I hate the ending of the book. It left me thinking "what the eff did I just read?" Male characters - unfinished. Lacey and Holly's relationship - unfinished. Just yeah.
The book is worth reading, but be prepared for the no ending end.
