Mercy Thompson [Dramatized Adaptation] #2

Blood Bound [Dramatized Adaptation]

Rate this book
Mercy has friends in low places—and in dark ones. And now she owes one of them a favor. Since she can shapeshift at will, she agrees to act as some extra muscle when her vampire friend Stefan goes to deliver a message to another of his kind. But this new vampire is hardly ordinary—and neither is the demon inside of him.

When the undead and the werewolves sent to find him don’t return, the local vampire queen turns to Mercy for help. A coyote is no match for a demon, but Mercy is determined to get her friends back—including the two werewolves circling around her heart.

Adapted from the novel and produced with a full cast of actors, immersive sound effects and cinematic music!

I'm on a role having just experienced Moon Called in audio format. I kept going with Blood Bound and the ongoing adventures of coyote shifter, Mercy Thompson and her friends as told by the fabulous Lorelei King.

Blood Bound is book two in the Mercy Thompson series and is part of an urban fantasy series that holds a separate challenge for Mercy in each book, but there is a series arc and ongoing development in characters and relationships that make it best read in order.

One of Stefan's 'sheep' is forcefully turned by a friend-rival who then sends Daniel out on a route check when a strange vampire enters the Seethe's territory and it was nothing routine in the end. Something about the whole matter troubles Stefan so he calls in his favor from Mercy and trusts to her 'Walker' talent to see through any magical illusions or compulsions if this strange vampire ends up getting past his own formidable vampiric power. Mercy and Stefan don't fare any better than Daniel and it takes the most powerful members of the tri-city supernatural community to stop a powerful evil who is slaughtering his way through anyone in his path.

Meanwhile, Mercy doesn't know what to do with her attraction to two different men who both are sticking close and making their interest known. Samuel, who is brooding more than ever and struggling with issues that might break this old, strong werewolf including his conflicted love for her because he's already had his chance in the past, and then, Adam, who makes her feel too much and too deeply so that she is convinced he is compelling her and neutralizing her free will- though, deep down, she knows he is too honorable for that. She shelves this when there is an evil to vanquish and the lives of many she loves are threatened. Time for her coyote to hunt.

This is not even my first time re-reading this book. It's one of my favorites in the series, but it has been some time. I was struck by new details that I noticed before, but really caught my attention in this one. I think that is the mark of a fabulous book-series when one can keep mining out more to appreciate with multiple re-reads and also get lost in the moment so that it is almost like it is happening for the first time once again. The word craft, characters, dialogue, background, and plot build are spot on.

There is the deeper exploration of the vampire world which is always fascinating. The teasing out of Stefan's life in his seethe and his friendship with Mercy which is forbidden for them both because of who they are. The author was not afraid to show the amazing side of vampires, but also the shadowy and edgier one that was not in the least glamorous. It makes them more real and engaging.

The love triangle is not a trope I have much toleration for, but its presence in this book was so background much of the time and the foreshadowing of what was to be was so strong that I could simply appreciate the way the emerging romance was developing at a slow rate that could be savored.

But, it was the relationships between Mercy and Adam's pack and then Adam and his close friendship with Warren that really struck me this time. That pack antagonized Mercy, but when she exercised it, she dominated them even Adam's second, Darrell. Even though she likes to think she was barely tolerated and despised and that she has no place in pack because she is coyote, it was obvious that she was wrong and she had a very definite place. When Warren was hurt and it was mentioned that he was Adam's best friend and that was how he came to be and stay in the pack even when many were hostile to him, it was the first time I'd really noticed this pack relationship. Warren was always his go-to guy and I thought it was because he recognized Warren's place of power in the pack and his steady nature, but it was more. I do love good bromances.

A full cast with sounds effects and music only enhances the story and drew me deeper in. All the actors seemed right for their parts even if a couple voices took a bit for me to settle into since I already had a certain idea in my mind of what the character would sound like.

As I re-listen to this series, I am delighted afresh. If you just so happen to have gotten late to the game on urban fantasy or this series, don't hesitate to pick it up. It's solid gold even years later.

Again, this was a re-read and if anything it was even better getting the audio version.

Graphic Audio NEVER misses for me, especially now that they're adapting the Mercy Thompson books! I've been absolutely devouring the Ilona Andrews catalog with GA's combination of skills and talent in every aspect of their audio production and performance. Seeing my other most beloved urban fantasy series come to life is a unique delight.

This is book 2 in the Mercy Thompson series and once again I will stress how amazing graphic audio is. It really takes books up a notch. The story is solid and I appreciate that Patricia wraps up the plot lines. My only issue is that it is missing something. I don’t know if it’s because Mercy seems like a background character in her own life or if the side characters are just not interesting (sorry Adam but I could care less about you and the wolf pack). The one side characters are just that I did find interesting is Stefan and he only makes an appearance in about a quarter of the book.

And what’s the deal with these different guys being interest in Mercy but Adam somehow has dibs because he claimed her for protection? I can already tell that Adam is being set up as Mercy’s love interest but Stefan is a more interesting choice with the added lore of the history between walkers and vampires.

Either way, this was a great way to pass the time. I may continue the series, we’ll see.

3/5 ✨⭐️

Mercy owes her vampire friend Stefan a favor, but what should’ve been a simple errand quickly turns into a fight against something far darker—a demon-possessed vampire. With the undead vanishing and the werewolves she cares about in danger, Mercy once again proves that even a coyote can bite back.

This installment was thrilling, emotional, and full of sharp humor. The GraphicAudio production took it to another level—the full cast, sound effects, and cinematic music made the story feel alive. This series has always been a favorite of mine, and experiencing it this way was unforgettable.

Paranormal mystery romance, full of suspense and plot twists, some romantic angst…. Alpha Adam? Dominant Samuel? Surprising Stefan?? Who will Mercy choose? Or will this be a why choose series? Guess I gotta keep going to find out! On to book three!! I am absolutely enjoying this series!

This books was much better than the first! I’ve gotten the hang of all the characters, started to grow to care for them, and am understanding the dynamic of this Urban paranormal world,

I loved the plot of this one, A vampire/sourcer who was very powerful. Creating chaos all over, taking down strong vampires and wolves. The fae refuse to get involved. Lots of action in this one.

The world has had the fae that have come out to the public but in this book the wolves have too. Vampires still keeping to their secrecy.

then love triangle grows between Adam and Samuel. Wayne and Sebastian find themselves in major danger. Mercy finds herself to Adam’s dominance and it scares her. Good stuff and great narration.

not spicey in book 1&2 but the story line holds!

Great second book in this series as Mercy Thompson and allies confronted a vampire possessed by a demon who was on a bloody rampage through Mercy's town. Lots of action and interesting developing relationships with a wolf pack, some vampires, a fae and a tenuous connection with the police. Many balls being juggled and Mercy keeps to her values as she faces a bag full of fears and an out of control vampire. Graphic Audio version with this series - just WOW.

Basic Plot: Mercy agrees to help vampire Stefan with a favor that turns out to be more than bargained for.

Mercy's life was already complicated, but this book complicates things even more. Her connection to the vampires is really at the heart of this book, though the werewolf connection is also very important.

Okay the dramatized adaptations are fine except for actually no listening to people kiss in your headphones as vague background flavor is gross and annoying. Going to have to go back to the regular audiobook versions very soon actually.
