Rei Chan’s quest for the perfect high school romance looks more like a comedy of errors when her would-be rival confesses to her instead!
Despite Hanna’s best efforts to communicate her feelings for Rei through gentle hints, flirtatious poses, and a basketball to the face, Rei remains oblivious—until a new rival enters the story. Although Susan cuts an imposing figure with her powerful frame and track-star status, she’s meek as a kitten in the face of her own oblivious crush—Hanna! Unwillingly caught between the two in this competition for the heart, Rei’s perfect love story is starting to look more and more like a love triangle…or perhaps a corn chip?

The joke is already wearing thin as this volume seems less a satire of romance comics and more just a goofy romance comic.
Also there isn't as much potty humor, which apparently played a large part in how much I liked the first volume.
I think I'm done with this series now, but I may be tempted to pick up the third volume if I happen to see it in the library catalog on a day I'm in a good mood. We'll see . . .

i already read the chapters in this volume from the original webtoon, so... my opinion still stands from my review on the first volume: it's so damn good and more people should read it!
If volume one of Not So Shoujo Love Story set up the hilariously self-aware premise of Rei’s search for the “perfect” high school romance, then volume two turns that premise delightfully upside down. What makes this series so addictive is the way Curryuku both pokes fun at and celebrates shoujo tropes, love rivals, misunderstandings, dramatic confessions, while giving them a playful, queer twist.
Rei is as oblivious as ever, which makes Hanna’s increasingly obvious (and increasingly endearing) attempts at affection all the more entertaining. The humor lands perfectly, sometimes slapstick, sometimes sharp, but there’s also an undercurrent of sincerity that keeps it from being just parody. Hanna’s vulnerability shines through her exaggerated antics, and watching her heart peek out from behind the comedy gave me those little pangs of sweetness I didn’t expect.
The introduction of Susan adds a whole new layer of charm. Her intimidating athleticism paired with her kitten-soft crush on Hanna creates one of the funniest and most endearing rivalries I’ve read in a while. Instead of just a predictable triangle, the dynamic becomes this wonderfully awkward web of feelings that both complicates and enriches the story.
What I appreciate most is that beneath the corn-chip jokes and meta-humor, there’s a real affection for the characters. Curryuku clearly loves the genre they’re riffing on, and that warmth makes the satire sparkle even brighter.
Volume two is laugh-out-loud funny, unexpectedly tender, and brimming with chaotic charm. If you love shoujo, or if you love laughing at the rules of shoujo while secretly swooning anyway, this volume delivers in spades.
This is a super cute series that follows Rei as she tries to live her best manga protagonist life without realizing that her rival is actually interested in her. I love how she can be oblivious, but full of heart and the way that the characters do their best to communicate, despite blips in their plans. Hanna is also such a mood in her attempts to communicate her affection to an oblivious Rei. Mr. Hansom chin-guy is also as funny as ever with his attempts to understand humans and his obsession with corn chips. We meet a few new characters (a new rival, but not in the way Rei initially thinks) and encounter many from the first book as well. It was a really fun read, and I look forward to the next volume!
Following Rei and seeing her navigate crushes (one sided on both ends) was adorable and really gives it that nostalgic YA feeling. Hanna is a mood and I love how down bad she acts for our ever-oblivious lead character in this shojou love story.
Chinny chin chin is growing on me and his appearances add some much needed comedic relief.
5 stars. The basketball arc is probably one of my favorites. Love the characters, love how the story progresses. And having already read this, you can tell how much Rei was already falling for Hanna from the start and it makes me giddy
Okay, this is a little more my speed than volume one. It's a bit more serious, although now the random bits stand out. A lot. I love how the relationship is developing though, it's super cute. Still not 100% sure how I feel about this as a whole though.
Sanó algo dentro de mi, verdaderamente es de los mejores gl que he leído, es realmente hermoso, 100% recomendado, léanlo por favor y apoyen a lx autorx
Love the art style, the meta jokes about these kind of stories. It’s cheesy and campy and alot of fun! Found myself smiling as I read cannot wait for vol 3
Just as funny as the first one, but also developing some real emotion and heart as we get into Rei’s walls coming down and the two girls getting closer. 🥹
impatiently waiting for volume three. ngl I was a tad worried when Susan came up, thinking she was going to be a stereotypical overly masc lesbian barging into the narrative. pleasantly surprised that she already has started bonding with the main cast. 10/10, I've been craving Doritos all day now...
