Break My Heart by Esther M. Soto is a book that has the feeling of an erotic contemporary romance combined with the mystery and angst of a time travel story and Ms. Soto does it to perfection!

This book picks up the story right from the end of Hold My Heart and it focuses on Lily’s explosive relationship with Tommy and on her mysterious time slip experiences. It's hot enough to melt ice cream, sensual enough to satisfy the most discriminating romance reader. The ability to travel through time literally comes as a result of love and desire. These feelings bring the two characters together, but it's not an easy journey.

Tommy and Lily are strong, independent and opinionated, but together, they are an amazing couple. Their relationship is as strong as ever, but complications occur that take the second half of this story in an unexpected, and down-right depressing direction.

It’s a powerful, explosive novel of intensely erotic sexual hunger, cleverly constructed time travel, and two wonderfully developed and very real characters. The suspense part of the story was thrilling and chilling but what I liked most were the couple’s exploration of the exploding chemistry and passion that rises between them, and the amazing portrayal of Lily in her struggle with PTSD and sleeping disorder.

To sum it up, this book is going in my favorites, and yes, I floved it! All I want to add is that Ms. Soto doesn't disappoint with this story of hers and that I can't wait to read more of her books.

PS: I love both HMH and BMH covers!

Cannot be read as a standalone

Break My Heart is absolutely perfect. I didn't think I'd read this in one day, but I stayed up with my kindle without paying any attention of the time. I got about 3 hours of sleep last night... all because I couldn't stop reading.

description

The story takes place right after the first book. Ileana and Tommy take a chance as a couple. They have some arguments that a lot of normal couples have. But they also have to deal with stressful memories and secrets from the past.

We get to see some more flashbacks of what happened when they were in Afghanistan. How they comforted each other even though they weren't romantically involved at that time.

Their relationship is far from perfect. They both make mistakes. Add Will back into the mixture and it's pure pandemonium.

This story is so complex. I don't understand how Esther M. Soto does it. All the characters involved in this story are well developed, and the mystery and suspense kept me hooked. This is so much more than a romance series. I must get my hands on the third book!

I have been awaiting this book since I finished Hold My Heart way back in December 2014. I think when you love a story so much (the way I loved HMH), you begin to build up the rest in your head. You hype it up, even though you're sure nothing can top it. I am thrilled to report that was not the case with Break My Heart.

BMH picks up right where we left off in HMH. And while some things stay the same, a lot has changed. Most importantly, the relationship between Ileana and Tommy. Esther Soto doesn't shy away from the realities of a new relationship. There is a good amount of sex scenes. And for all you lovers of steamy scenes --- well, enjoy! Because these are H-O-T.

But there's also the turmoil and struggles of being a new couple. Especially when both people are so emotionally damaged. Soto handles the truths brilliantly. The changed dynamic of Lil and Tommy are, at times, hard to get through. Trust me, you will feel frustration like never before. I felt like my heart was in a vise for a lot of this book. And I can't lie...I was worried about the ending. I didn't have a good feeling about where things were heading since the end of HMH.

Fans of book one will be happy to see all their favorite characters back in action. I'd have to say that Charlie Ryan definitely added much needed humor to this mostly somber installment. I may or may not have a crush on him.

The plot itself is building and now we are just awaiting the epic and inevitable crash. Underneath all that romance is a very well-thought out sub-plot. It'll make your head spin trying to understand every aspect of what's going on. This isn't just a story of lovers. It's a puzzle or two to solve, too.

So, I may have been worried about where things were heading, and with good reason. Like any real-life relationship, there are ups and downs. And especially with the new couples in the honeymoon phase. It all eventually ends. And hello, the title alone is scary! It will break you a bit. I cannot lie. This isn't an easy book to read. There is angst. It will take quite an emotional toll on you, too. There are shocking moments, A-HA! moments, and moments that will make you realize just how brilliant this tale is.

The most important thing about this series, though, is that it doesn't feel like fiction. Soto's writing is beautiful, sometimes absolutely lyrical, and with her talent, she's created characters who feel like real people. People who you could be friends with. Or neighbors you spy on because their lives are so much more exciting than yours. It feels like we are just watching a reality show without all the contrived drama.

Break My Heart is an outstanding follow-up to Soto's debut novel. Packed with romance, angst, suspense, and complex plotting, Break My Heart will not only break yours, it will captivate you and keep you thinking of this story long after you finish the final page. Oh, and wondering what's up next in the final book.

Break My Heart is without a doubt one of the most exceptional continuations of a series I have ever read. Esther Soto weaves a story-line that leaves you breathless, every step of the way. There were times I didn't want to continue reading for fear of my own heart being broken but once I pushed through I was once again completely enthralled in this time travel saga and couldn't wait to find out what happened next.

The love story that is Ileana and Tommy encompasses so much more than two people finally finding their way to each other. Deep secrets are held and the utter anguish each experience was gut-wrenching to read. I felt their pain. Their frustration. Their longing. Every emotion possible is thrown out there and you can't help but become a part of their journey. Happily, underneath it all is the love between Ileana and Tommy that drive this series. What they do both personally and professionally has everything to do with those they love, including their tight group of partners who in turn would do anything for them as well. Ileana and Tommy have come so far and yet so much more is to come for them. For as complicated as their lives are and in this one, they only get more muddied, I will quietly assume that things will only get crazier as we get to the conclusion. And hope that with all the jumping to conclusions and misguided thoughts, that it can all work out for everyone in the end.

Believe me when I tell you that the thought of a time travel book did not entice me. But what Esther Soto has created is nothing short of incredible. There are numerous twists and turns and at times you might need to reread a passage to keep it all straight, with assorted characters to keep track of, but in the end, it is worth every omg moment and every shake of the head. I loved that it is told in alternating POV's and that the author does her research wrt every aspect of this book. There is a ton going on all at once but Soto shines a light on her mad skills at writing yet again.

A must read in my opinion. It's refreshing and unique and well worth your time.

A 5+++ star read that is sure to be in my top twenty this year. Now on to the wait for book 3.

Why ? Why do I go on and start trilogies that aren't finished. And we don't even have a date for book 3 !!! Writer faster Esther Soto, faster please !!!

As far as the book goes, I love the Lil and Tommy. I love it that they aren't perfect together. I have read so many books and seen so many movies when all is perfect in their world, rainbows, unicorns and cotton candy everywhere, while in reality relationships don't go that way.
I see the jealousy, I see the despair, I see the insecurities, I see the slight mistrust, I see the hurt.. I see everything that I have seen in reality, in real, human relationships. And Mrs Soto writes so beautifully, not only I see all those things, I felt them , too.

More specifically:

1) I didn't like that Lilly didn't confide to Tommy. Yes, time-travel is crazy, but at the end of the day, if anyone is going to believe her, it is Tommy. And if anyoen trully and really wants to help her 100%, no hidden agentas, risking his life for her, it would be Tony. They are each other's soulmates, they shouldn't hide such things from each other.

2) It's so heartbreaking how little self-esteem Lilly has. Her insecurities due to her excuse of a mother, are huge. In both books she is thinking how could Tommy like her/love her, how great he is for her, how he will get bored with her and it breaks my heart.

3) In many books I have the 2nd lead Syndrome, but I didn't even liked Will. At all. Neither in book #1 () , neither at this book ()

4) I think this book had a little too many sub-stories going on. It's not that I didn't like it, or that it somehow stole from the story or decreased the quality of the book, but many times, this results to open ends left at the end, where writers either forget or can't really close the story they started.

5) In this book we see more and more depth in our characters. I think this book gives more insight to their feelings than the first, too

It's 4.5 stars for me . And it's half-minus because I don't like soooo serious cliffhangers, specially with books we don't even know their release date.

WARNING: This review contain a few spoilers from Book 1.

Wow! If Hold My Heart was a nice surprise, Break My Heart was punch in the gut!
What an amazing sequel to an already great story!!

Break My Heart picks up exactly where Hold My Heart left out and through the whole story we get to unravel more secrets and also more about the mystery that is Illeana Harper’s life and ability to time-travel.

I was surprised (happily so). The love she shares with Tommy is so much more than what I originally thought. And everytime we get to unravel a new layer to this story, it gets more exciting!!

As in the first book, the background story in Break My Heart takes a big role in the story and I have a feeling it’s going to take an even bigger one in the next (3rd) book. I think Illeana and Tommy’s time in the war has a lot to do with the mystery in the story. I can’t wait for the next book to see more of it!

I really like that this book shows that admitting you love someone and getting together is not what that makes a relationship. It felt very real to see Tommy and Illeana’s struggle to be a couple, specially because they’ve been best friends for so long. I LOVE when we get glimpses from the past in the war and how their friendship began. Those glimpses really make the story “realer” and make us relate more to it and the characters.

Things are getting clearer and every new discovery just adds to the story and makes it even more addictive! This story flows so well and it’s so “expertantly” written that when you finish it, you just can’t wait for more!!!!

Let me start by saying.....damn!!! This book, I mean, it's a good one. I have been waiting for this book, for want seems like forever. They say good things come to those that wait, or whatever, and it happened. This book was worth the wait! I loved that it picked up right before HMH left off. I have loved Tommy since book one and not cared much for Will, that didn't change for me. Although, I had so many conflicting feelings during this book!

If you loved the suspense from book one, as much as I did, you love this one. BMH is full of the same things that made me fall in love HMH, the characters, the writing, the suspense, the romance, the love, and the hope.

Esther is able to tell a story as if it's real life. I felt like I was right there with Lil and felt every ounce of her pain and struggle. I wanted to punch Tommy and then hug his neck. They have so many issues between the two of them and it's a beautiful thing when you see how their love grows. I loved seeing inside both of their heads. This story has been close to my heart from day one and I can't wait for book three. I kept trying to turn the page, to get more, and it didn't work. I still have so many questions and my heart is, honesty, a little broken, but I have faith that Esther will come through and deliver one heck of a finish to this series.

Holy moly this book! The prologue had me and I couldn't stop. Whether you are team Tommy or Will you get to know them both a little better. There are a lot of questions answered but you still are left wondering and wanting more. I was anxiously awaiting this book and it did not disappoint, the wait was well worth it.

Tommy and Ileana are far from perfect, you know they love each other but they have a lot to deal with. They are really struggling to find a balance between their relationship, work, and the secrets Ileana has been hiding. I love how Esther wrote their relationship, it's real, its flawed, but you know the depth of their love.

After Hold My Heart ended we were left with a big cliffhanger when Will showed up, so we get answers about him and why he's there. Or is he?

This book was phenomenal, the scenes were hot, they were real and they had me wanting more. I got mad at Tommy, I got mad at Will and I most definitely got mad at Ileana but I love them all.

Don't let this series slip by, its a must read and one of the most unique and intriguing stories I've read. I can't wait for the next book! Esther has captured my heart with this story.

I'm sitting here at a loss for words! I loved ever minute of reading this book. I didn't think it was possible but I fell even more in love with Tommy! Tommy and Lil are in a new relationship and are so in love but I loved that they face real life problems. They were raw and passionate!

I have had a place in my heart for Will since HMH and I'm so happy we got to see a little more of him in BMH.

I can not wait to see what happens in the next book because my mind is going crazy with ideas from that ending!

Break My Heart is a fantastic sequel to Hold My Heart. It picks up the story right from the end of HMH and takes the story and characters places I never saw coming, kept me at the edge of my seat until the last line, and left me hanging in the best/worst way. BMH gives the reader so much more insight into Ileana, Tommy, their relationship, and Will, as well as Ileana's time-travel ability.

The beginning of this story starts slow and focuses on Tommy and Ileana's relationship. At first, I wanted things to start happening and move along, but as I continued to read I began to appreciate those scene with them together and by the end I was thrilled they were there. Ileana is such a strong and independent woman it makes it hard for her to let Tommy in. And Tommy, he likes to be in control which isn't easy when it comes to his relationship with Ileana. Their struggles hurt and I don't always agree with their actions. They make me angry as often as they make me smile but I love the emotional response they evoke from me.

When it comes to Ileana and time-travel, I don't want to give anything away. I'll just say the places this story goes with that was brilliant and exceeded my exceptions. There's something huge brewing and I am incredibly anxious to see where things go next. I have so many questions and I cannot wait to see how all the puzzle pieces come together and Soto concludes this series. Oh, and Will, I was never a fan before, but now I just may be. His part in the story surprised me and I am loving the direction it's going.

Break My Heart is a complex and heartfelt read and a perfect middle book in this series. I loved every moment of it and now I am dying for book three!

Sometimes when waiting for a series to continue on I just move on and kind of forget a story. The wait just gets too long for me to stay engaged with the story and characters. This series may have just been on the verge of exactly that but I am so happy I didn't give up. Break My Heart was exactly the follow up Hold My Heart needed.

We find Ileana back in the present still reeling from her experience chasing the serial killer from Hold My Heart. She struggles with keeping reality and her dreams separate from other. A task that not only threatens her job in the FBI but also her new found relationship with Tommy and her friends.

Tommy, oh sweet Tommy. He was one of my faves in HMH and I found myself loving him a bit more in this book. Of course, he had his moments where I wanted to slap him silly but then remembered he's dealing with his own fears of what happened to his Lil while she was gone. He has a lot to deal with in BMH. New job, a relationship with someone he knows is hiding something but no matter what he does he can't break her out of her world, and then there's that man's name he hears at night. All this has Tommy once again finding an escape in his new role at the DEA.

Will!! He's back. But why?! Why did he follow Lil to the present?! All is revealed so I won't give much away on his role on this part of the story but he is still swoon worthy as ever.

Break My Heart had me reeling a bit as things started to come to light. Esther has done a great job of keeping the build up of events steady so the reader stays invested in the story and its characters. I can't imagine this story could have gone any other way than they way it has played out so far. I can't wait to see where the final chapter of this series takes us. But please Soto, I have one request. Can the wait not be as long this time?!

Break My Heart jumps in head first back into Ileana’s life. Let me just say that the opening chapter left me gasping for breath. I’m not going to summarize the synopsis for Break My Heart in this review. What I really want to talk about is the profound complexity of this book. It really examines the depth of emotion that develops within those who serve in the armed forces and police force. I actually felt as if I was peering into a window of the souls of two people who had survived overseas military deployment. I now understand the sacrifice undercover agents make when they leave their families and engage themselves fully into their work. I now understand the desperation of the loved ones at home waiting and wondering. The feels in this book are unparalleled. Along with so much heartache is a love so strong that it withstood the test of time, trials, and tribulations. I’m cruising along devouring the book - looking at the percent left thinking that doesn’t match up – we can’t be near the end and BAM the cliffhanger comes out of nowhere! It’s one you’ll want to talk about immediately (I rushed to social media to talk to my book buddies). This is a book that I’ll be thinking about until the finale is released.

Esther Soto just moved to the top of my must read list. Let me know if there will be a midnight release party for the third book. I’ll be waiting in line for my copy!

A wonderfully thrilling sequel!

Break My Heart was nothing short of a thrilling and captivating ride. The follow on novel to Hold My Heart, this story starts off a little slow, but the tempo builds and builds and builds, culminating in an absolutely breathtaking ending.
The twists and turns were so cleverly woven and left me guessing at every point. Ileana and Tommy's love story is so intense and heartbreaking in places, but their passion and love for each is raw and intimate, hot as hell and utterly sexy. I can't wait to read the final part of this totally unique story.
A must read, after Hold My Heart, which is Part 1 in the Hearts series.

This series is about love, time travel, loyalty, and history. It is a unique ride and one that I devoured. Esther's writing is phenomenal and the characters are well developed.

I have waited and waited and waited for this book. Patiently. Not so patiently. I've WAITED.

The first 30%...SLOW. It was. I wanted to skim and get to all of the good and juicy stuff. I wanted to get to more Will and less Tommy. But I didn't rush through it and I'm so happy that I didn't. That slow build up in the beginning was worth it because once you hit around 45% the story takes off and from there you won't want to put the book down.

So, luckily Break My Heart picks up just a little bit before where Hold My Heart leaves off. I'll admit, I was disappointed about the way some of things turned out, especially with certain characters and I did notice that when I finished the book there was some open plot holes that made me wonder if a third installment will be added, just to answer some of the unanswered questions I had.

Yo let me add this too: there's a ton of sex in this one but DON'T WORRY! The scenes were perfectly written and not dramatic or over done and no gross words were used to describe any body organ or any certain "action" so A+ I my grade book.

I struggled understanding the way Tommy and Harper's relationship was building in the beginning of the story and in what direction it was going but I feel like by 80% the author made me a huge understanding Tommy fan and to me that's important because in book one, he wasn't my pick. So knowing that Tommy was so well written especially enough for me to start developing an attachment to him, I'm happy. That makes me happy.

Like I said at the beginning: I have been waiting for this book. For almost two years. And Esther executed the conclusion to a wonderful two part series. The writing, the plot, the twists, they all came together and made my wait worth it. Great writing and story telling takes time and Esther can make me wait as long as she wants to every time. I'll be here. Waiting.

Wow. Just Wow. Esther M. Soto knocked it out of the park with this one. I love this book with my whole heart. It was a great follow up to Hold My Heart and left me wanting more. I have always been #TeamTommy, and remain on his side. Without giving any spoilers away, I better just say... Read this whole series. Fall in love with Lil, Tommy and Will. You'll love Charlie and Nelson and even Adams. These characters are full and complete. Well thought out writing that grabs you from the first chapter and doesn't let go until you read the last sentence and yearn for the next installment. My only regret is not making time to read this book in one sitting! I can't wait for the this story to continue!

I picked up this book in the Nook store on my tablet because I had to know what happens next with the characters. My personal review of the book is as follows:

I personally loved the characters and love story in the first book in the series and I was excited to see that the next book was available on my Nook. The story broke my heart and put it back together again a few different times within all the plot twist especially when it it comes finding out more about who was who/with who in which time line. However the back and forth arguing between "Lill" and "Tommy" eventually got old for me personally really fast, I also didn't really understand how the time jumps worked especially towards the end of book.

I was personally annoyed with all the(in my personal opinion) extra drama the characters had to go through to the point where I'm not really interested in dealing with what I'm personally pretty sure will be the emotional drama of book 3(I can only handle so much make up and breaking up before I get annoyed).

Because of how I still like the main characters overall I'm rating this book a 5 out of 10.

OMG!!! This book was AMAZING! This story was so full of twists and turns and WHAT moments, I couldn’t get enough. Break My Heart is the sequel to Hold My Heart, and it’s a must that you read book one first. This book picks up right where Hold My Heart ended. Ileana is struggling with her life after healing from her injuries. She expected Tommy to be by her side because he has been with her for years, but he’s mysteriously nowhere around Besides being partners, they served together and have been through so much.

There’s only so much Tommy can take and not knowing if Ileana is coming back to him or not after her injuries, this poor man just loses it. My heart just broke for him. He’s so pitiful and heartbroken. Just when he had her, he lost her. Eventually, moving on to a new job isn’t all he expected it to be. He misses her more than he ever realized.

Ileana is determined to get Tommy back, and I loved seeing her strength that we saw so much of in book one. But, just when you think they are getting their happy reunion, here comes Will. Will is the last thing she expected, and it only brings her back to fighting with her emotions of what happened to her when she traveled back to the past.

Tommy and Ileana’s relationship is definitely not easy. With him being undercover with his new job and being gone a lot, it really tries their bond. Several times, I was ticked at Tommy and what he was having to do. I felt like he was reverting back to his playboy ways before Ileana. I was so afraid their relationship would be ruined before it even had a good chance to get started.

Without revealing too much, questions arise and Ileana and Will have their work cut out for them trying to figure out what’s going on. Just when you think you have it figured out, you are thrown for a loop. This book has many twists and turns and will definitely leave you guessing as to what is going to happen. So many things I was not expecting and by the end, I think my mouth was hanging open with a ‘what the hell’ happened moment. As usual with Esther’s writing, this book was planned out well and the characters are well developed. This is 4 star book is one that you can’t just skim over it and hope for the best. It’s one of those rare ones that make you really think about everything that is happening as the story evolves.
