Over the past two decades, The Toxic Avenger has achieved the status of cult icon. Discerning fans around the world have followed “Toxie's” adventures through four films, an animated feature, a Saturday-morning cartoon series, comic books, action figures, and more. His name has been used by everyone from the Environmental Protection Agency to the U.S. Army to PETA; he appears in the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade; and his creator, Lloyd Kaufman, is claimed as an influence by directors like Peter Jackson and Quentin Tarantino.
Now Kaufman has set aside his video camera and unleashed his twisted brilliance on the artistic form of Fitzgerald, Hemingway, Faulkner, and Mitch Albom. And to put it simply, Kaufman has blown those jokers out of the water. Readers who dare to crack the spine of this book will experience the gamut of human emotion (and then some): laughter, tears, and perhaps even vomiting and spontaneous ejaculation. With more girl-on-girl action than an episode of Springer, more blood-soaked bad taste than an After School Special, and with special “guest narrators” such as J. D. Salinger and Oliver Stone, The Toxic Avenger oozes hilarity on every page.
Lloyd Kaufman is a popular American film director, producer, screenwriter and occasional actor. With producer Michael Herz, he is the co-founder of Troma Entertainment film studio, and the director of many of their feature films, including The Toxic Avenger and Tromeo and Juliet. Kaufman also serves as chairman of the Independent Film & Television Alliance.
If you're looking for a high brow entertainment you're doing it wrong..... on the other hand if you're looking for a frank discussion of the toxic avengers sex life and various other fun topics come on in.
I was really psyched when I bought this book. Then I was psyched for another 50 pages. Then finishing it was kind of a pain. But it looks cool on my shelf.
Well, here's a book that I never thought would exist, but considering Lloyd's taken his beloved Toxie through every other form of media (including a musical), I suppose it was only a matter of time.
As with Lloyd's filmmaking books, The Toxic Avenger: The Novel is full of asides from the writers and 4th wall breaking moments between Lloyd and his ever-suffering editor. Not only has Lloyd taken the original Toxic Avenger material and converted it into a book, he's also added some things to make it more book-like and even updated it for the current time period. The most obvious update is the mention of the improvement to Tromaville's skyline now that two specific somethings are no longer around (yes, it's what you're thinking). Also, there is a history of Tromaville itself and a "scientific" explanation of Toxie's Tromatons.
This book is just fun from start to finish. It gets a little disgusting at points, but it's from Troma, so that's to be expected. If you're a fan of the Toxic Avenger or even Lloyd's other books, this should definitely be added to your collection.
