HER SHIMMERING BEAUTY EVOKED AN UNTAMED--UNDYING--DESIRE. Flawless, young, raven-haired Glenna O'Reilly, savagely seized by the hungry, perverted Lord Winslow, military commander of Ireland, was helplessly swept into the merciless world of sensual abuse and violent brutality. Enslaved in a Sultan's harem, violated again and again, only her beloved Daniel Morgan, her handsome American, could end her fated sentence of torture and shame. Only by his enduring love could she be cast into a new life--a life of shared devotion in the new land across the sea.
But fate was not yet through with Glenna O'Reilly. Still condemned by her past, an object of torment and ridicule, she allowed the children of her one true passion stunning, impetuous Moira and sensitive, shy Andrew--to be used by the wealthy, greedy landowners of Maryland. Fleeing a corrupt, immoral existence, still they sought the splendor and unspoiled ecstasy of a pure and fearless love -- a chance at last to ... REAP THE WILD HARVEST

Part 1: 5 stars Part 2: 3 stars (Averaged: 4 stars)
This felt like two shorter books smashed together, though the parallels between Glenna & Moira’s travails were meant to be obvious (indeed, they both mention the similarities), so I’m sure it was intentionally written as one long saga.
The first section (Glenna, circa 1830) was riveting stuff, awesomely OTT with visceral horror, copious rapes, desert treks, aphrodisiacs, violence, harems, true love, tragic deaths, touching loyalty…the whole package crammed into 300 pages. I was glued to Glenna’s adventures—the poor girl really went through the wringer—& was almost sorry to see her achieve happiness with 300 pages remaining.
Alas, the second section (Moira, circa 1850) was inferior in all ways. Moira was an absolute moron whose only competition for Idiot Champion of the World was her own brother. 🙄 Even so, I could’ve dealt with her small brain but for one simple fact: Moira’s “epic adventure” bored the hell out of me. I loathe pioneer westerns, particularly mountain men & wagon trains & prairie-crossing shit, so much so that the section in Gold Rush ‘Frisco was a blessed relief, despite the snoozery therein—at least those damn calico dresses & poke bonnets & tents were no more. My tolerance window of western historical Americana is very narrow, & this in no way qualified for any of the topics that I enjoy. 😶 Mix in my dislike of Moira & King, the (by that time) redonk villain, & general thinness of character development while previously strong presences were shoved to the background, & you have the recipe for a blah second half. There were flashes of what made Part 1 so good (Mac, Lila, lolzy sex marathons) but overall it was a meh sequel to Glenna’s story.
(Sidebar: The dialogues between Glenna & Moira were really odd. The author’s gender showed here more than anywhere else,** as they they read like pulp fiction mother-daughter con artists sharing sex tips while sitting down to cocktails & Rat Pack records. Clearly “Elizabeth Bright” had no real idea how mothers & daughters interact, esp in the 19th-c.)
Overall, methinks the author would’ve been better off expanding the length of Glenna’s adventures & skipping the Moira stuff altogether—the second half just lacked the devil-may-care sparkle, sweeter moments, & OTT WTFery of Part 1.
**Except the obsession with Glenna & Moira’s uber-perfect, uber-endowed breasts. Seems like all male ripper writers are fixated on their heroines’ boobs. :P
