I am Heather McCollum, writer of 16th and 17th century Scottish romance full of adventure and intrigue, sprinkled with humor, history, and spice. Brawny Highlanders and feisty heroines are my favorite characters!

I am also a mom of three kids, dog-mom of one rescued geriatric golden retriever, and wife of one 6 foot 4 inch Highlander. When I’m not trying to help my kids make it through the day, baking things I see on The Great British Baking Show, or writing, I’m usually educating women on ovarian cancer (I’m a nine-year survivor).

I love kilted heroes, chai lattes, and eating buttered air-popped popcorn for dinner on Friday nights (my dog loves this one too).

A short and sweet and absolutely lovely read, Untamed Hearts was a wonderful historical romance novella. I loved this book! It was a delightfully romantic, truly enjoyable romance.

Both Jonet and Will were lovely characters. Jonet was a strong-willed, likable character. Because of her life with her first husband, she was very self-conscious, but she was also determined not to let all that unpleasantness keep her from being happy. Will was adorable. He was so charming and sweet and impossible not to love. I absolutely adored him.

The romance was both sweet and spicy. Jonet and Will were so lovely together. I really liked the fact that they didn't try to deny their feelings, though they weren't sure how to act on them. And, the chemistry between them was very hot. Tons of steaminess with these two. I thought they were a perfect couple.

The plot was fast paced and I was hooked the entire way through. This book managed to pack a lot for a novella, which I really liked. All the characters still felt deep and the story still manged to fully engage me. I really enjoyed the story and the ending was wonderful.

Untamed Hearts was a fantastic historical romance read. I really loved this wonderful book. Romance lovers, this is a book you'll definitely want to read.

In a world full of intrigue and magic there are times when only love can help you navigate. In this wonderful novella as part of Heather McCollum's Highland Hearts Series Once again we see the power of love (and no Robert Palmer in sight).

Jonet Montgomery married young and married poorly. A cheating spouse is never a young girls dream. And when the entire clan starts calling her cold, Jonet believes them. So when handsome Will Wyatt rides into town, Jonet questions his sincerity. Figuring if he wants her obviously she is just one of many.

Will Wyatt was rescued from a slave ship as a child and has spent his life at sea. When he needed to disappear he went to the Highlands with his "almost sister" and her husband. The first person he sees is the gorgeous Jonet and every other female is invisible to him.

Of course there is much more going on than two people falling in love. There is an illness that forces them to seek shelter and safety at a neighboring clan. Where the close quarters can only help their romance along. Except there are those who want to keep them apart. Some because they are concerned for Jonet and some out of jealousy and spite. Either way they both have to work for love. Jonet has to believe that Will only sees her. And Will knows that keeping Jonet means giving up the sea. A choice he doesn't know he can make.

I love this series each book is magic..

Untamed Hearts was a thoroughly sweet historical romance and a really good read! The characters, Will and Jonet, are really easy to like. Will is a pirate laying low until the bounty on his head is removed and I loved how carefree he was and how he made Jonet feel good about herself. Jonet was a favorite character of mine from a previous book in the Highland Hearts series and I was so happy to see Jonet finally get her own story. She is a really good person and has devoted herself to taking care of the orphaned children in her clan. Although she outwardly shows confidence and bravery, she's been hurt before and feels kind of like she is unlovable for a man. Watching their story unfold was loads of fun and very heartwarming.

Just because Untamed Hearts is a novella doesn't mean that it is short on the story, Heather McCollum packed lots of story in this little book (Goodreads lists it as 163 pages, so it's not as short as some novellas out there)! With lots of adventure, sweet and sexy romance, memorable characters, and a wee bit of magic set in the historic Highlands, the Highland Hearts series has quickly made it into my "Must Read" list!

I can't wait on Crimson Heart to come out next month, especially since I've read the blurb and found out that it is about Searc! Can. Not. Wait.

I loved the character of Will Wyatt in the previous full length book so I was tickled to see him getting his own story. It was also nice to catch up with Ewan and Dory to see how they and the other previous couples were doing too. This was a fun Highland romp for Will the pirate that also brought a bit of adventure, passion and scariest of all, love.

Will helps escort Dory and the children to Scotland at the orders of Captain Bart as an opportunity to hide out while there is a price on his head. He isn't keen on the idea as the sea and the ship is the only life he has known. Watching Ewan and Dory affectionate and in love leaves him confused. He never really believed in love and to be honest, he doesn't understand it. He prefers light-hearted encounters that don't tie him down. Well that is until he sets eyes on the green-eyed, black haired lassie handing out kisses at the clan May Day festival.

Jonet Montgomery gets the kiss of her life when the big handsome stranger lays one on her leaving her breathless and dizzy. His eyes on her prove his interest and she can't help her own interest since here is someone who doesn't know her reputation as a cold fish and inept at keeping a man's interest. Unfortunately, Will runs amok of another fellow who she turned down not long ago. Never again will she marry after the pain of being married to the uninterested, womanizing first husband who got himself killed in battle. Now she lives for the orphans she takes in and mothers.

A scare of contagious disease from another clan who has come seeking the healers sends everyone to their neighboring clan as temporary exiles. On the journey and at the Munro's castle, Will and Jonet circle ever closer even though everyone warns him away from her and she is warned to stay away from him. Jonet knows the dangers of leaving her heart open to a man who plans to return to the sea and Will knows he has to be careful of hurting Jonet. Soon the lines are blurred and Will has a big decision to make.

The story had a lightness to it mostly due to Will's personality, I think. He is flirtatious and fun. He makes music with the drums, he entertains with stories and he even cooks well. He's a lover and a fighter. He enjoys being free and wild and senses a kindred spirit in Jonet even though she has lived a very different life from his own. I loved watching Jonet become free and happy with Will. Her passion matched his and she was honest about what she wanted. They were a great pair. There was a lot of sexy moments, but there was some strong conflict too with the conniving Eric and the daring rescue near the end.

All in all, it was a wonderful addition to the series and a fast entertaining read. I would recommend at least reading this one after Entangled Hearts just so that the characters and situation make sense. Those who enjoy historical paranormal romance should try the series that offers adventure, passion and fun all in one.

My thanks to Net Galley for the opportunity to read this book in exchange for an honest review.

This novella is book 2.5 in the Highland Hearts series.

Will Wyatt, a known pirate, is hanging out in Scotland with his sister until there is no longer a bounty on his head. Trying to find his way in this new place, he never expects to meet a woman like Jonet Montgomery. He is instantly smitten after a stolen kiss.

Jonet Montgomery has been looking for her knight in shining armor and never thought he would come in the form of a pirate. Having been wed to a cheating husband, she does not want to get hurt again. But even with all the warnings from others about Will's reputation, she just can't seem to stay away from him.

When the highland clan must seek shelter with a neighboring clan, Will leads Jonet on a wild adventure. Can she keep herself from getting hurt again or will she let her past haunt her forever?

Having read the other stories in the Highland Hearts series, this story took a different turn. The other stories focused on women that had healing powers and the threats that those powers came with. Although the story included those women as supporting characters, that theme didn't play as big of a part of this story as it did the others. Both the H/H in this story were featured in previous stories and it was nice to see them get their HEA. They have each been hurt earlier in their lives, so they needed to find someone who understood that hurt to be able to really connect. This was a great novella which visited favorites from the previous novels and hints as to what is to come in the next book.

I can't wait for the next book in the series, Crimson Heart, which will feature Searc Munro.

I received a copy of this book from the Entangled Publishing and the author in exchange for an honest review. I was not compensated in any way.
Will Wyatt is a pirate that’s helping his sister and brother-in-law. Jonet Montgomery has an interesting way to get men to help out on a very worthy cause. Heather does such a great job with her descriptions that you almost feel as if you are in the Highlands along with the characters.

There’s a wedding that had me wishing that I were a participant. At the very least I will need to add a trip to Scotland to my bucket list. If you want to know more about the couple that got married, make sure to read Tangled Hearts. What’s great about a series is that you get to like them and are happy to see when they make another appearance somewhere else.

This novella is a great follow-up to book two. Jonet and Will’s story can be read as a stand-alone but I’m hoping that it will give you the incentive to go back and read the other books in this series (if you haven’t already). There are characters from other books that make an appearance here and what better way to get to know them but to go back and read their story.

Being historical, this story reminds the reader that it was always the woman’s fault if there were any problems. It does make me wonder how the men would cope in today’s world. And it made me glad that times have changed. This story also shows that a woman could find love and not all men are jerks. I was disappointed once I got to the end but I’m looking forward to the next book in this series, Crimson Heart, coming out in May.

Short and Sweet

A very cute novella-length book which tells the love story of Will. Do you remember him? He was the brother figure for the heroine in the last book on board the pirate ship. Although he occasionally had very un-brotherlike feelings for her, she ultimately found love elsewhere. Will is still feeling the sting of that rejection at the start of this story when he enters a small clan and claps eyes on Jonet Montgomery.

I really enjoyed this novella. Despite its diminutive size, it really packed a romantic punch. Jonet and Will are such likeable people, and I was impressed by how much backstory and characterization brand new character Jonet received in such a small amount of pages.

I definitely recommend fans of the series check out Will's story. It's a cute-fest, for sure!

This was a short story about a pirate on the run. I enjoyed it, it was short but sweet.
Will Wyatt is a pirate with a bounty on his head, he visits his sister in the highlands and ends up helping a group of orphaned children escape a plague. He also meets a beautiful widow called Jonet Montgomery who is in danger of stealing his heart.
Will is attracted to the beautiful Jonet, and she has been waiting for some one like Will all her life, and there love affair is very tender.
This was a nice little story, I highly recommend this book for true lovers of romance.

Will is a sexy as hell pirate who is helping his sister while laying low in Scotland due to bounty placed on his head.
Jonet was married at a young age to a cheating scoundrel who destroyed her self esteem and died leaving her never knowing love. She now helps orphaned children and has given up on love. Till...a handsome pirate comes into her village and opens her mind and heart to feeling alive again.
The things Will shows Jonet heat up the pages of this book along with kicking up the libido. This is a great historical romance! The characters were very enjoyable as was their story.

The story of Will and Jonet grabs you right from the first page! From Wills charming, laughable wit to Jonet's both vulnerable but strong willed caring front.
Their attraction is evident from the start and the heat from both characters is off the charts scorching! So many parts of the book will have you laughing out loud while others will leave you speechless.
Heather McCollum has done it again - another hit in the Highland Hearts series - one that is an enchanting, giggling, passionate, delightful read!

The Pirate's Sweet Jonet

Will Wyatt is a special "pirate" , one who rescues children from slavers, as Captain Bart once rescued him. He's certain to be the next Captain of the Queen Siren, but fate has other plans for him. He's wanted by King Henry n has to escape London along with his sister Dory n husband Ewan, n a few children who, were also rescued from slavers. They will hide out in the Highlands, Ewan's home, until the heat dies down in London. When they reach Ewan's home in the Highlands, Will is enchanted by the beauty of one lass. Something inside him propels him to find out everything about her, he's never felt like this before for any woman, it intrigues him to know why that's so.
Jonet Montgomery, a widow, is manning a booth giving anyone who signs a voucher a kiss. The voucher is the man's promise to help repair a house for the orphans she takes of along with her best friend Ann. She notices the strangers entering their village but her eyes r drawn toward the pirate. A shiver runs down her spine at his intense stare as their eyes lock on one another. When he joins the line of men wanting a kiss n his turn comes, they exchange a passionate kiss that curls her toes. Everyone hooting n hollering at them, except one guy. He's asked to marry her but she refused him, now he's jealous n angry she's paying attention to an outsider. But that kiss was awesome, no ones ever kissed her like that, even her dead husband.
Will now finds Scotland less full than he expected, all because of one lass. Someone lusting n strong, demanding n giving, soft n brave, full of life. What a beauty.

I was so pleased to find out Will and Jonet would have their own story! Instead of dealing with magical powers and danger, their story deals more with the emotions of falling in love. Will is a pirate who never has any trouble attracting women, while Jonet is a young widow who has struggled with self confidence and her own sexuality, thanks to her dead husband!!

Will is attracted to Jonet as soon as he meets her and figures he can have a bit of fun with her while he's in hiding but he soon learns his feelings go much deeper once he gets to know the shy and vulnerable lass. As for Jonet, she tries everything to keep away from him, not willing to have her heart broken again but then decides to let him teach her the ways of loving...makes for some heated scenes:)

Another well written story in the Highland Hearts series and I also enjoyed seeing many of the characters from the previous stories in this story as well. We may not have liked Will much when we first met him but he surely does redeem himself in this one:)

This was such a frustrating read for me - parts of it I loved, but the parts I hated, I hated.

For starters - I didn't want to read about Will. We first met Will in Tangled Hearts , and to put it nicely, he was an absolute prick. Admittedly, he was a lot nicer in this book and almost like a completely different character, so he wasn't as bad to read about as I thought he would be, even if I still didn't really like him. Jonet, on the other hand, was a super likeable main character, and I think she deserved better than Will. Their romance was quite cute, but I just couldn't shake the ick that I got from Will in the previous book. It was also really strange how he talked about how he only sees Dory as a sister, but in the previous book he was completely in love with her? It kind of felt like Will was an entirely different character in Untamed Hearts than in Tangled Hearts , but it wasn't believable for me. Also, we see a lot more in this book of Ewan and Dory being terrible parental figures - who gave them guardianship of children, and why are Will and Jonet suddenly parenting the kids instead? It seems that Jonet and Will have taken tips on parenting from Ewan and Dory - it's no wonder Stephen ran off, seeing as he very clearly had a lot of issues to work through and all the adults in his life just completely ignored him.

The main reason this is getting one stars, even though I didn't hate the characters, romance, or plot, is that there was just so much sexism, which I just couldn't forgive. There was a lot of slut shaming ('Those two sluts would make fabulous whores.'), and women were unnecessarily pit against each other to compete for male attention. The two jealous maids and their schemes were just unbelievable and a super sexist caricature of women, it was honestly just lazy writing.

I felt like this novella really could've been it's own book. This would've given time for Will to actually have character development instead of just acting like a completely different person, and it would've made the pace of the romance a bit better. I also thought the ending was super rushed, and this would've helped to fix that. Honestly, my biggest take from this book is that I absolutely love Donald and I'm mad he doesn't have his own book - this is absolute Donald erasure, because he's my favourite character in the series - think Kronk from The Emperor's New Groove, but a Scottish highlander.

Will is a pirate who rescues children from slave trips. There is a bounty on his head so he is headed to lie low in Scotland with his adopted sister, her husband, and a group of rescued children. When he sees Jonet for the first time he is smitten. Jonet is equally attracted but her lack of self-esteem makes it difficult to believe a man like Will could be interested in her. Jonet is a widow. When her husband was alive he barely spent any time with her. Instead, he frequently cheated on her. Will and Jonet connect while caring for children who are sick and Jonet slowly begins to believe his complimentary words. The epilogue to the story is great. I recommend this book to anyone who enjoys historical romance.

I listened to the audiobook. Narrator Timothy Campbell is fantastic. I highly recommend this version.

This is the best book in the series so far. Will is confident and annoying at first, but we see how amazing he is as the book progresses. Jonet is great, too. This is the 1st book in the series where I felt the guy sees the girl as his close equal, although in the first book of the series, Caden thinks something along the lines of How did I get so lucky in meeting my equal who has the same passion and insatiability as me? after his wedding night with Meg Boswell while not telling her that he is keeping her as a prisoner without her knowledge. I really did dislike the first book of the series.
Untamed Hearts was a good book. It is a bit of a light reading. Also, it is not a stand alone. Some references are from book #2 of the series. I would read this book again.

Will has gone to Ewan’s castle to escape from the English that are looking for him. He sees Janet at the May Day festival that is going on when they arrive. He is instantly smitten! An illness hits a neighboring clan and they come in large numbers for healing from Rachel and Dorry. At the ill are heading their way, Will and Janet bolt with all the healthy people not needed. They have quite an adventure and they become very close. There are a couple of people that would prefer they not become close and do their best to thwart their budding romance. Will is going to have to make a decision – return to the sea or learn to ride a horse and stay. An adventure to the end

Untamed Hearts, book three of Heather McCollum’s Highland Hearts series was a lovely novella in this series. The story of Pirate Will Wyatt, who had to lay low, so accompanied his half sister to Scotland where he meets Jonet Montgomery. And after stealing a kiss from Jonet, will she steal Will’s heart? I loved the byplay between these characters, and being back in the highlands! Rather McCollum weaves wonderful tales, and this one is no exception!

Audiobook review:
Performance: 5
Story: 5

I loved Tim Campbell’s performance of this smexy novella. Jonet is a widow whose husband was a cheater. Will is a pirate who’s on land for an extended period of time.

These two are pretty explosive together as Will teaches Jonet all the ways they can pleasure each other. I truly enjoyed listening to this story. Even though it’s part of a series I think it does very well as a standalone.

I like Tim's Scott's accent better than his English accent.

I do wish this was more of full length novel- more details about Will's past, more info on the "villains" in the story. I always want more of Nickum.

All in all, not my favorite installment, but still a decent experience. I'm looking forward to Searc's story!

Short and sweet.

Will is a pirate with a bounty on his head so he is in hiding in the highlands with his sisters new family. Jonet is a highland lass that Will takes a fancy to on his first day. The feeling is mutual between them. Sweet love story of opposites attract.
