Maggie and her partner, Jamie, find themselves in the world of AI. AI specialists are being killed by the very inventions they create. That means the killer must be as smart as the creators. And how can he manipulate the very things they’ve developed? The murders are happening fast so how can Maggie catch up and stop him?
Maggie manages to find a computer wiz, or hacker, that is more than willing to help get on the dark web and with her help the hunt is on.
I found this an interesting change from most books I’ve read. It was well written and held m interest.
The story line was ok and a little scary to think that someone could hack into your smart devices and cause your death.
But what irritated me (having two members of my immediate family with Type 1 diabetes) was the way the author used diabetes for the kidnapped character. The author kept mentioning that the character needed to have his insulin shot or he was in immediate danger of going into a coma and dying. This is not the way diabetes works. If a person with diabetes does not get his or her insulin shot, blood sugar would rise. It would take a much longer timeframe than a few hours for the blood sugar to rise high enough to cause a diabetic to go into a coma. Not getting a timely insulin shot DOES NOT put a diabetic in immediate danger. When the protagonists found the kidnapped man, the author said that he was pale, weak, and sweating. This would more likely be the signs of low blood sugar from too much insulin, which WOULD put the victim in immediate danger. This confusion about a disease that I am unfortunately well familiar with ruined the book for me.
A Maggie Flight Suspense Thriller by Kate Bold, Final Chance centres around Bureau profiler Maggie, as she and partner Jamie face the ultimate challenge against a cyber-terrorist who hides in the shadows. What's the connection between the victims? The story races along at breakneck speed, while the tension rises to fever pitch with every scene right through to the end. Final Chance is a must-read that will grace any thriller-lover's bookshelf...grab a copy today and tell all your friends!
I seem to be stuck on a run of not very good books. The plot of this book is really thin. The characters are not well developed, like stick men (and women). And they aren't interesting. The main character repeatedly guesses correctly what the villain is doing or about to do, in spite of the fact that she has never seen him and has no background on him. Not believable. There isn't much to this story, illogical and pretty much a waste of a reader's time.
I liked the first book better. This is filled with a lot of technology sling that I know little to nothing about. A tech geek is seeking vengeance against those who "wronged" him and plans to make it "right" with a little show of his own. Much to his surprise the police and techy people are smarter than he is. I loved the ending. I look forward to book 3.
Read like a draft that was written quickly and was not reviewed by an editor (reference to "Silicone" Valley made me cringe). Situated in Palo Alto but did not contain any accurate references to the actual Palo Alto. Plot quite implausible with many gaps in flow and logic. Underlying premise interesting and a few interesting passages (warranting 2 vs 1 star) but overall not well developed.
Global wars and attacks have become waged in cyber attacks that threaten key power stations, nuclear energy plants, and international banking, this plot and these characters seem dangerously credible. Perhaps, the most frightening of these dangers is the misuse of AI in ways that ultimately can make all most vulnerable.
This was quite a well used concept given another airing, AI being used to kill people. It was not brilliantly done with lots of highly unlikely scenarios like could he use his smart phone to hack while running away after he had switched it off to avoid tracking but apart from a few gaffes it was readable and passed a few hours on.
A free book about a serial killer targeting tech moguls? Seemed worth a try. I was disappointed though. The plot was interesting but lacked nuance and felt underdeveloped. All pretty 2 dimensional. Not really my cup of tea.
Would you buy a car that could be hacked into? Would you build a Smart Home that could become your prison? Things to consider when you know about all the mentally evil people in this world. Kate Bold is a good author.
A proven fact AI is not secure to be 110% relied upon. Tho this is a fictional work, it shines a pin hole light on the subject.. I am not afraid of AI, just the people pushing and forcing it everywhere. It is past time to choose, but doing so may save you.
What I particularly like about this author is the engaging way she stays on story giving the necessary details that keep a reader interested in the subject.
Kept me interested from the very start. I loved it! If I had to give criticism it would be that some times situations were over explained. Can't wait to read another Kate Bold book.
