Second chances are rare, but after finding myself the sole survivor of a legendary dungeon and making it out with enough gold to put my feet up forever, life has been awesome.
The town of Emberfall has been paradise ever since I arrived. Not only are my days spent enjoying my new home and the pleasant summer sunshine, but I get to do it all alongside Sophie, the stunning blonde mage from across the street, and Victoria, the beautiful demon-horned brunette lawyer from next door.
Of course, giving back to the community is also on my to-do list. Using my Handyman Magic – and a little of my Arcane/Destruction when necessary - to help out with a few would-be magical DIY problems around town is putting plenty on my plate, as well as dealing with the wood-nymph who still calls my backyard home.
Not only that, but when my girlfriends and I uncover the path to a pair of lost artifacts that would complete the new display we helped start at Emberfall Museum, it’s clear that we’ve got more work to do.
This time we’re going to need a little assistance. Fortunately, Sophie’s dryad friend Eva has returned to town, and she’s more than eager to help...
There were some things I forgave in the first book because I assume it's a new author, but as this book continues it really causes me to struggle.
Victoria is apparently a walking set of fun bags. Every other descriptor shouldn't be an even more over the top ridiculous assessment of her chest, it's too the point it feels he doesn't care about anything else.... and makes the MC sound like he's twelve. (To that point I've never met a woman that would want towear a bra to bed, but I digress)
I find the smut to be weirdly disjointed. From the way the MC speaks and the way Sophie spoke you'd think they'd be having threesomes. Don't get me wrong less smut can be better than too much hindering story progression, but most authors at least gloss over/ftb things to show more is happening than is written down on the page as it were. It's just rather weird the lack of affection, like the women in the MCs life are not fully there.
I'll try to finish this book and change this if things improve but I might be. Done with this series.
The story is good, and the harem part is decent, too, but the "Sexy Parts" of the book are not satisfying; they're kind of bland.
Imagine going to a pastry shop and seeing a cake with luscious decorations that looks like it took the chef hours of work. Tons of effort have been put into it, but ultimately, the taste will be the deciding factor. With all that effort, you think the chef will elevate the flavor, too, but as you bite into that deliciously looking slice, you bite into that cold, doughy, and rubbery feeling of fondant. Really?
The MCs make sense, as doess the story so far. It’s low stakes for the most part and the relationship pacing isn’t hurried but also not super slow burn. 3 FMCs so far with a couple of other potentials making all elements of the story in genre work well. A fun read, I’m looking forward to seeing more of the story.
It's slightly boring, but that's a slice of life book for you. I'd have preferred more plot and less filler. Every time something does get interesting, it's obvious it's not going to go anywhere.
I felt like there was a lot more that could have been done with the setup. I guess that's why I prefer litrpg over Slice of Life.
Trent and his band of beauty's solve another mystery as to the origins of Emberfalls. Along the way Trent picks up another magical woman to add to his band and comes to terms with the wood nymph living in his back yard. Looking forward to the next book.
Good storytelling. A light and fun tale continues with book 2. The MC is still one of the good guys trying to keep his secret from most people so he can enjoy life. Along the way, he makes new friends while doing his best to help others. Looking forward to book 3.
The overpowered Warlock takes it easy in the suburbs with his girlfriends. Still action to be had as he attempts to recover some magical items and remove a mostly dead cleric while enhancing the local museum. An easy and fun read.
The story flows brightly and the pace is well timed and executed with a fine touch. Sometimes the editing or lack thereof is irritating, but the enjoyment of the story is true and full!
