The next riveting summer suspense by the author of THE BLOCK PARTY and ONE BIG HAPPY FAMILY, Jamie Day.

WILL THIS BE THE BEST WEEK OF THEIR LIVES... OR THE LAST?

JULIA, DAVID, AND ERIKA grew up together spending summers at their idyllic Vermont lake homes for as long as they can remember. Now adults—with their own sullen teens, endless mortgages, and low-voltage sex lives—the three friends have amassed secrets over the years.

This summer, David is eager to show off his newly renovated home—which now blocks his friends’ cherished lake views—and his much-younger girlfriend. He also, unwittingly, brings a nanny with a hidden agenda. What could possibly go wrong?

When David’s girlfriend mysteriously vanishes after a shouting match, Julia and Erika wonder just how well they know their lifelong friend. The lake harbors a harrowing two young women, with no known connection, vanished without a trace thirty years ago. Did the lake take another?

As a search is mounted, an intricate web of lies, deceits, and betrayals spanning generations starts to surface, and everyone finds themselves in danger of becoming the next victim. Of the lake, or something darker.

Jamie Day’s The Lake Escape is a captivating summer thriller that masterfully blends nostalgia, suspense, and a touch of the sinister. Set against the backdrop of a serene Vermont lake with a haunting past, the story follows Julia, Erika, and David—longtime friends who return to their lakeside homes each summer. But this year, their idyllic retreat takes a dark turn when David’s much-younger girlfriend vanishes without a trace. As suspicions mount and buried secrets begin to surface, the tranquil setting transforms into a breeding ground for danger, leaving no one safe from the shadows of the past.

What makes this novel truly stand out is Day’s skillful use of multiple perspectives. By shifting between characters, the story unfolds like a puzzle, with each piece adding depth to the suspense and shedding light on the complex relationships and hidden motives at play. The gradual buildup of tension is incredibly rewarding, culminating in a second half packed with jaw-dropping twists that will leave readers on the edge of their seats.

That said, the large cast of characters can feel a bit overwhelming at times, making it harder to connect deeply with some of them. A few relationships and backstories could have been fleshed out more to amplify the emotional stakes. Still, these minor flaws don’t detract from the overall enjoyment of the book. The Lake Escape is a slow-burning mystery that delivers plenty of intrigue, deception, and eerie atmosphere, making it a perfect pick for fans of the genre.

While I initially leaned toward a 3.5-star rating, I’m rounding up to 4 stars for the book’s expertly crafted suspense and immersive setting. If you’re searching for a summer read that’s equal parts thrilling and atmospheric, The Lake Escape should definitely be on your list.

A big thank you to NetGalley and St. Martin’s Press for providing me with the chance to read and review this gripping novel!

Julia, David, and Erika, grew up spending their summers at their lake homes in Vermont. Now adults, they continue the tradition at the lake that harbors secrets. Two young women vanished without a trace thirty years ago. The cases remain unsolved.

Currently, there’s tension among the friends when David builds a house of glass, which blocks his friends’ view of the lake. He arrives with a new girlfriend and the nanny for his two young children.

Then David’s girlfriend disappears. Is history repeating itself?

Unsurprisingly, there are secrets that will be revealed….

But less is more. This had everything but the kitchen sink thrown in and the last 20% of the book was so ridiculous that at one point I actually laughed out loud. Plus a monologue confession. They are the worst! Add in twist after ridiculous twist, and the mob (lol) and that was it for me. Sadly, this was one huge disappointment.

Childhood friends reunite for a holiday at their old lake getaway, but this time they’re all grown up with families and baggage in tow. And yes plenty of drama unfolds. The lakeside setting was a highlight, giving the story a nostalgic yet moody backdrop. The characters didn’t exactly shine, but they left enough of an impression to keep me reading. While the mystery kept things interesting, it leaned more toward family drama than edge of your seat thriller vibes.

Lake Timmeny hold lots of fun, memories, and questionable disappearances for the people, Julia Crawford, David Dunne, and Erika Miller who have vacation residences there. It's been a place where they return yearly for some fun, frolic, and sunny days.

However, the lake holds some mystery as well since two women have vanished thirty years apart in the lake's region. It lends an air of foreboding to the area and then something awful happens again that sets these friends against one another and provides a story filled with old passions, deceit, envy, and mystery.

Their struggles to keep their precious place in tact is for naught as all of them nurse secrets and lies. Will they be able to get back to where they once were or will the lake break them apart into unimaginable pieces?

I enjoyed the story but will say the ending was somewhat questionable.

A week at a lake sounds like bliss! The water, the sun, old friends, and cookouts makes for an enjoyable vacation. Unfortunately for Julia, David, and Erika, old friends who spent their summers at their family's idyllic Vermont lake homes, this week will become a nightmare! Instantly gripping and atmospheric, The Lake Escape, grabbed my attention and never let go! Now that they are adults, Julia, David, and Erika have a lot on their plates - relationships, children, financial responsibility, sex and secrets! They are no longer the carefree teenagers who enjoyed their summers together!

David has arrived with Izzy, his newly hired Nanny, children and younger girlfriend to show off his newly renovated home which just happens to block his friends cherished lake views. When his girlfriend goes missing, an investigation is underway. Friends will look differently at friends and a long-ago mystery about two missing women at the lake surfaces.

This was book is told through the POV's of a couple of characters and slowly secrets emerge as do memories. I enjoyed the setting which was nostalgic and ideal. I could imagine the lake, the woods, and the homes. It looks like such a relaxing setting, but it is anything but relaxing for the friends and those in their lives. As the mystery builds, so does the suspense.

There were times that I wanted this book to move a little faster. There are quite a few characters and at times I felt as if they bogged down the story a little bit. What doesn't bog down the plot is the atmosphere, the tension, the suspense, the twists, and the setting.

I was lucky enough to have both the book and audiobook which made for a wonderful reading experience!

What a great thriller to enjoy this summer! Wonderfully written, well thought out, and gripping.

3 "meh" stars. Domestic suspense about 3 households on a Vermont lake with a history of 3 young women going missing every 30 years. The story just did not keep me engaged, and I disliked all the characters and the pacing was absolutely awful. So, I resorted to skipping & skimming the whole middle third just to get done with it & felt like I missed nothing, but I was quite pleasantly surprised at how much the last 25% picked up and the ending was actually rather well done and intense, so it got another star. I’m not totally sure if this was the author or editor’s fault, but am taking off my “auto” list now for sure.

A slow-boiling mystery of tantalizing intrigue and juicy scandals, The Lake Escape took me into a deliciously dark world of secrets and lies. From the camouflaged motives to the complex group dynamics within this small band of friends, Day certainly got my attention from the very beginning. After all, the dual POVs kept me puzzled about what could really be going on. And let me tell you, almost right away, my spidey-senses started tingling thanks to a sinister vibe that ran just below the idyllic surface of this lakeside setting. I mean, I was suspicious of everyone and everything throughout this summer read.

This was where my issues took over, however. You see, the middle of the book felt far too drawn out and slow for my liking. Alongside of that was the huge cast of characters, which made the whole story just a little bit overwhelming at times. Were they all really needed? Or could they, as well as the plot, have been edited down? I’ll leave it to you to find out when you pick up this novel. After all, while I did have to overlook some flaws, this book’s nostalgic feel, twist-filled last third, and gradually building tension means that I would still recommend it as long as you love domestic suspense as much as yours truly.

All said and done, thanks in part to the layers of eerie vibes and the atmospheric feel, I fell head over heels for the storyline—as well as the drama. Besides, by the time I got to the wild rollercoaster ride at the end, it was all I could do to hold on for dear life. Twist after twist delivered in spades as my jaw hung open in complete and utter shock and surprise. Did it require me to suspend disbelief just a tad? Well…yes. But I didn’t mind it in the least. After all, the mystery wrapped up in a way that, despite looking obvious in hindsight, totally evaded my sleuthing until all was eventually revealed. Rating of 3.5 stars.

Having read two of Jamie Day's earlier books, I was keen to read The Lake Escape, a summer 2025 release. Perfect timing for the season, the book promised all the right moments to make a stellar suspense novel. A lake where women disappeared, seemingly a pattern every few decades. Families who grew up together, some harboring secrets. Newcomers with an exe to grind for a mysterious reason. Drama ensued. A new woman disappeared. A local who lives in the woods lurks nearby. Great stuff. Enjoyed the writing and building drama. Mostly, I couldn't understand why the "friends" even kept in touch. Felt a bit manufactured, as if they only saw each other in the summer, yet they had lots going on in their lives with dependencies on one another. Oh well... a little bit of confusion but definitely tons of surprises.

I read both of Jamie Day’s previous novels, The Block Party and One Big Happy Family.

Both novels were gripping, suspenseful character-driven domestic thrillers. They dealt with complicated relationships, family, dynamics, long hidden secrets, betrayal, and all the messy sometimes heartbreaking parts of being human.

After enjoying both of the authors previous novels, I had high hopes for The Lake Escape, and it didn’t disappoint.

Julia, Erika, and David were childhood friends who spent their summers together in Vermont. Now adults with teenagers of their own, they return to the lake. All are carrying the weight of bills, strained marriages, and long-buried secrets.

But then someone goes missing and their seemingly peaceful getaway turns into something more unsettling. As old tensions, resentments and buried secrets resurface they start to question just how well they really know each other.

I found The Lake Escape to be another slow-burning suspenseful story with well-developed characters and a moody, atmospheric setting. It took its time in parts and occasionally felt a bit over-the-top, but overall, I really enjoyed it.

I’m really looking forward to reading more from Jamie Day!

This is a well-written, entertaining, fast paced thriller. It has a beautiful setting, an intriguing mystery, murder, suspense, secrets, relationship drama, and an unexpected conclusion. Ooh what a perfect summer thriller!

Julia, David and Erika have spent their summers at Lake Timmeny for their whole lives. A lake where secrets and drama isn't a stranger. The lake is also the place where two young women disappeared without a trace exactly 30 years apart, staying open and unsolved cases.

This year, the trio returns, but each person is carrying a whole lot of secrets from each other. David's girlfriend disappears the first night of their vacation, which makes it appear that history is repeating itself.

This book had a full cast of characters but is told from two different POV's. First, we have Julia, a original part of the trio, and a mother whose life is about to take a turn for the worse and then we have Izzy, a newcomer to the lake as David's nanny to his twin children.

This book was relatively easy to follow even though the cast of characters is huge. I enjoyed the dual points of view from both Julia and Izzy and found their stories easy to follow. This thriller has twists aplenty and is full of drama. I thought it was the perfect summer thriller and I really enjoyed it.

The Lake Escape (audio) 3⭐️

Somehow I was bored and overwhelmed with this one. Part 1 seemed longer than it needed to be. A lot of words for a basic set up with minimal/superficial character development. Part 2 was action packed, but the reveals were quite over-the-top in my opinion.

While this won’t be a summer favorite of mine, I think will still be a good vacation beach read for other people.

This was an enjoyable thriller set at a lake in Vermont. The novel is told from two perspectives, Izzy, a nanny, and Julia, a mom who has been going to the lake for years. Julia has been going to Lake Timmeny with her best friends, David and Erika, since they were children. They've been through many ups and downs over the years including the disappearance of a girl their age when they were teens. It turns out that two women have disappeared over the past 30 years. This summer David's girlfriend also disappears. There is so much more to discover at the lake as secrets begin to emerge and not everyone is who they say they are.

Julia and Izzy were great characters and I loved that they had two very different perspectives. Even though they were years apart, both were strong females who went through a lot. They really made this book for me. Julia's life is literally falling apart at the seams but I loved reading what she was going to do about it. I also loved reading about Izzy and her attempts at being a nanny. She was a great character who gave a different perspective having come to the lake for the first time. She had an interesting backstory.

This was a wild ride especially at the end. My mouth was hanging open as the mystery was revealed and I found out what was really going on. If you love thrillers I think you will enjoy this book. As someone who has vacationed in Vermont and is from New York, there were some great references that helped me really connect to this novel. I had no problem picturing the setting of this book which made it more enjoyable. A great read for thriller lovers!

Julia, David, and Erika have spent every summer at Lake Timmeny for as long as they can remember. Their vacation homes are a break away from their everyday lives. But when David's new girlfriend, Fiona, goes missing without a trace, their vacation turns into an investigation with David as a suspect. As the search for Fiona continues, Julia and Erika wonder if Fiona's disappearance could be related to the other two women who have gone missing at the lake 30 years ago. The campfire story says that the "lake took them". Could the lake have taken Fioana?

The Lake Escape focuses on two POVs: Julia, who has been David's best friend since childhood, but starts to investigate David's involvement in Fiona's disappearance, and Izzy, an inspiring journalist determined to investigate the missing women of Lake Timmeny, and David's new nanny. I enjoyed Izzy's POV. The secrets she discovered in Fiona's disappearance, and the women who went missing 30 years ago had me guessing how they were all connected. The story seemed to line up with an obvious conclusion, but I was completely surprised by how this book ended.

Overall, this is an intriguing mystery that is the perfect read for summer.

The Lake Escape comes out on July 15th.

The Lake Escape is a killer thriller and mystery novel, but unfortunately falls short due to uninteresting characters, an obvious motive and killer that’s far too easy to figure out.

Childhood friends return to Lake Timmeny for their annual retreat, but when Fiona, David’s new girlfriend goes missing, their hopes at a easy going escape disappear and instead turn into chaos.

The set up was for the first ~100 or so pages, or roughly ~30% of the book. I wasn’t attached to any of the characters. Nothing grabbed my attention, or truly made me want to keep reading. Julie, who feels entitled to a lake view, and is suspicious of her husband’s financials. Izzy, the sophomore college student who lied about her nanny credentials. David, who came into new money and has his girlfriend, Fiona mysteriously disappear the night after an argument. Erika and her husband were forgettable. Even more suspiciously so, the night before – Fiona and Lucas (Erika’s 18 year old son) were found kissing. Fiona is also in her 30’s! Ew. It felt unnecessary to include that, especially as it did nothing to push the plot forward.

Christian especially irked me from the beginning. While Julie herself was no saint either, he had an affair previously, blew all of their money, and she can somehow STILL forgive him? Girl, please. I’m big on the “if he wanted to, he would.” He’s definitely not giving that vibe. Case in point:

“I changed all the passwords as a precaution. It’s not big deal. Please, just get some sleep, or at least let me sleep. You’re worrying too much.”

Honestly, Izzy’s involvement was predictable. Julie mostly served as a narrator for her growing suspicions of those around her. There were some minor “plot points” that were quickly forgotten and shoved to the side as well.

I’m typically a sucker for thrillers, but I don’t care for stilted, awkward conversations. Plus, to make it worse – Day kept trying to stack up the “oohs” and “ahhs” with incredulous reveal after reveal that made NO sense, nor was it even briefly mentioned previously, but was instead brought up out of nowhere.

When the big mystery of who the killer was is revealed, I wasn’t surprised. They weren’t given much dialogue or any actions until the way end of the book. My suggestion for future books would be to include the suspicious characters more often. The less you talk about them, the more (I, as a reader!) am thinking that they’re the killer.

Then, the last ~10% or so was absolutely ridiculous. The MOB?? Come on. That’s just an easy out at that point, a last-ditch effort to make things more “thrilling.” I didn’t care for this at all and I’m quite surprised at all the positive reviews surrounding it.

Overall, not something that I’d be happy to recommend to anyone.

I’ve enjoyed Jamie Day’s previous books so I was excited for this one. I loved the idea of creepy Lake Timmery. The characters were interesting even if they were a little bit exaggerated. I did predict all of the twists, but I still enjoyed the ride. Izzy exaggerates her skills as a nanny in order to get a job as a temporary nanny for a family vacationing on Lake Timmery. The twins are a handful but she is desperate to do some investigating while she is there. Three old friends all vacation together but when the father she’s working for’s girlfriend disappears on the first night it becomes apparent that secrets are hidden at the lake, starting with the fact that three women have gone missing exactly 30 years apart. I listened to the audiobook and liked the narration a lot. I also really enjoyed that this book was told in the perspective of a couple of characters which is always more interesting to me. I gave this one 3.5 stars rounded up because it was a fun summer read.

4 stars. A great summer audio pick with a lake setting + it’s sound flowing in the background! 💦 If you’re looking for an engaging slow-burn domestic thriller you’ll find it here; -secrets, lies, betrayals, and suspicion all merge with decades ago disappearances and a creepy secluded lake house three longtime friends- plus the nanny Izzy, are vacationing at for the summer. Told in dual POV’s the story really ramps up in the last half with an ending that will knock your socks off after (yet another disappearance)- the young girlfriend vanishes.
I love how this felt dark and chilling with an eerie vibe and enjoyed trying to fit the puzzle pieces together to solve the mystery. The only thing- I had to take notes as to keep the characters straight. I really enjoyed this latest from Jamie Day. Pub. 7/15/25

Your huge new house is blocking my lake view.

The house started off the not-so-good summer for the life long friends, and it wasn't the worst thing that happened or that was discovered.

Julia, David, and Erika have spent summers at the lake all their lives.

Everyone has changed and everyone has secrets as we meet two new characters this year - David's young girlfriend, Fiona, and the nanny, Izzy, for David's four-year-old twins.

When David's girlfriend goes missing the first night she is there, everyone wonders if the lake claimed her like it did two other girls more than thirty years ago.

And who deleted the security footage from the exact time Fiona went missing.

How is this summer going to turn out?

Will there be another victim?

What other information will surface?

Find out in this slow moving read with a lot of characters to keep track of and characters with secrets and agendas of their own. 4/5

I first heard of Jamie Day when a friend recommended an earlier book, The Block Party. I really liked it so I went on to read another by her, One Big Happy Family. This is her third book and I was happy to pick it up.

Description:
JULIA, DAVID, AND ERIKA grew up together spending summers at their idyllic Vermont lake homes for as long as they can remember. Now adults— with their own sullen teens, endless mortgages, and low-voltage sex lives— the three friends have amassed secrets over the years.

My Thoughts:
Wouldn't it be great to meet the same friends every summer on vacation and all live next door to each other on a beautiful lake? How ideal! Unfortunately there is trouble in paradise and each of the friends if having their own issues. But front and center is David's renovated house that blooks the other friends' view of the lake and his new girlfriend. When the girlfriend goes missing it bring up the disappearance of two other women at the lake. Did the women drown of was something else going on? The secrets and lies here add spice to the story. There's even a link to the mob that surfaces. I enjoyed the book, but not as much as Day's other two.

Who doesn't love a good summer mystery? The Lake Escape brought back so many memories for me of my own time out in the woods every summer, soaking up the sun, meeting new friends, connecting with old ones, and breathing in that fresh pine smell. Of course, we didn't have a mysterious lake that took someone every 30 years, but you get the idea.

This was such a fun read that kept me on my toes and truly was so reminiscent of childhood summer days; with a sinister edge, that I couldn't help but just soak it all in and read it in one sitting. Fans of the genre, are going to love this one.

Three friends and their families get together at their houses on the lake. Two women’s disappearances have plagued the lakeside for over 30 years. Secrets and lies come to light and threaten to tear the childhood friends apart.

What should be a nice getaway turns into a real life nightmare when a disappearance occurs. Women seem to disappear from this area on more than one occurrence and on this year’s vacation, Julia and Izzy are determined to find out what’s happening. It was great hearing the story from of their POVs. The story gave an eerie vibe, as these disappearances took place in a secluded lake area. The secrets ran deep in this friend group, and I enjoyed seeing the story unfold & seeing the character development in Izzy‘s character, she was my favorite. Overall, a decent read that fans of slow burn mysterious thrillers may enjoy. Thank you St. Martin's Press and NetGalley for this advanced reader copy. All opinions are my own.

The lake escape was an average thriller. I didn't like most of the characters, except for Julia, Izzy, Taylor, Lucas and, of course, nutmeg. I thought the book should have ended sooner than it did, as the last 15% was not necessary. still, I enjoyed the book

Grab your beach bag and toss in a great summer read, The Lake Escape. This one was a very quick read (listen for me with very good narration) and is the perfect escape.

Lifelong friends who grew up vacationing together continue the tradition yearly. Several POVs, an ages long mystery which appears to repeat itself, a nanny (Hello! I love a good nanny character) and Jamie Day gives us a good mix. Go in cold and enjoy the journey.

I absolutely loved Jamie Day’s debut work, and ever since, I have eagerly anticipated her latest mystery installment. As a fan from the very beginning, my expectations might be a bit high, almost like chasing a unicorn, and I haven't found the same gripping, popcorn-worthy intensity that characterized her first book. However, The Lake Escape offered some interesting and tangled plot threads that were intriguing to unravel.

Julia, David, and Erika return to their family's lake houses for their annual vacation, each harboring their own secrets and reasons for coming back. Their trust in one another is also superficial at best. A few new characters join this year's vacation: Fiona, David’s current girlfriend, and Izzy, the hired nanny for two weeks. Unbeknownst to the original group, these newcomers have their own hidden agendas. When Fiona goes missing in a manner reminiscent of two other young women, each disappearing thirty years apart, the plot thickens.

I particularly enjoyed the last third of the novel as the narrative threads came together. I agree with other reviewers that there were some lulls due to unnecessary backstories for minor characters. While I understand the intention was to provide depth and character definition, it ultimately distracted from the thrill of the plot. Overall, this was an enjoyable mystery filled with numerous twists.

Rating: ⭐ ⭐ ⭐

What I Liked:
1. Summer lake atmosphere
2. Rich messed up people vibes
3. Writing style was good

What I Didn't Like:
1. Too many characters intersecting in confusing ways
2. Ridiculous ending

Overall Thoughts:
{{Disclaimer: I write my review as I read}}

Wait wait wait we aren't holding Lukas responsible for leaving Izzy behind in the woods, but blames the dad instead. Lucas isn't a child. He is 18 years old and knows that young women are disappearing here but he leaves her. Apparently according to his story he did indeed look for her but it's Izzy's fault she got lost because she walked away from where they were. She was so lost that she never heard Lucas yelling her name. Yeah, right. I don't trust him.

Izzy didn't do anything. Her mother says she's thankful for her help in catching him but she really didn't do anything. It was all luck. Luck that Julia went to a bar and ran into a bartender that told her everything she needed to know.

Why is Izzy's only choice to tell the police that David killed Susie? She could throw them all under the bus. Erica and Rick both got to live a life of privageb too! Oh thank God Izzy actually said something and told the police about who killed her aunt. Honestly though are we even sure that Erika and Rick didn't kill Fiona? She just happen to disappear so well that no one can find her... I know it's not the real ending but I like to believe they really killed her to frame David.

I am so mad that Julia forgave Christian for the cheating and now for him losing her Lake house. There is zero way I'd be letting this guy back again to ruin more things. I am so annoyed. She has to go figure out everything and get back into the corporate world (which in movies and books they make look so easy - yeah you haven't worked in 15 years but here's this CEO position) to somehow pay off her house. I have no idea how that will work.

Erika and Rick get no real punishment and for some reason the family forgives them for covering up a murder and also murdering Susie. They claim that because of David raping Susie it put into motion her getting herself killed which dare I say it is ridiculous. There can be more than one person here responsible for the murder of Susie. Oh and David just disappeared. No one knows what happened to him other than his shoes just being next to the lake.

Final Thoughts:
Gosh, I'll be honest with you I thought we had a Gone Girl moment here. David was a terrible boyfriend so who would blame her. He did admit to sleeping with the other nanny so I was shocked to think back on why Fiona would agree to let David hire another nanny. David doesn't even remind me of someone that would want to take his kids to the lake house.

This book was fine. I found the characters on the annoying side. I got to the ending only to find everything before it was pointless feeling. Julia forgives Christian. Susie's murderers go free. David just disappears. All these moments just added up to nothing. I found it just meh and just there.

There was a scene in the book where Izzy goes into David's office and he catches her. I get she's scared and doesn't know if David killed Fiona but the way the scene is written felt so much like a soap opera. She's staring at him he's staring at her and they keep staring at each other. She's thinking he's going to kill her and she keeps staring at him. It went on like this for a while. I laughed.

THIS IS THE JUICIEST SUMMER SNACK I'VE EVER DEVOURED. It was the perfect mid-summer escape with all of the ominous storytelling checkpoints I needed. And yet...I found myself evaluating answers to questions like "How much should a person exhaust themselves for financial security?" and "Should boundary lines be altered in friendships once we've grown up and changed?" "How far should we go to protect those tried and true relationships before enough is enough?"

For as long as they can remember, Julia, Ericka, and David have spent every single summer as neighbors at Lake Timmeny in Vermont. Their friendships have withstood the test of time through thick and thin. Now that they are adults, their kids have even become friends. But this idyllic lake has become a keeper of secrets. Every thirty years, a teenage girl has gone missing, never to be found again. The superstition in the area is "the lake takes them." But now, thirty years after the last abduction, when David's new young girlfriend vanishes after a heated argument, the lake is not to blame. David has also hired a new nanny to watch his twin toddlers, and she seems to have a hidden agenda. As the search for his missing girlfriend launches, these three friends find themselves highly suspicious of one another. After all, secrets can't stay buried forever.

This book has two well-crafted POVs - Julia and Izzy (the nanny). Each POV brings about just the right tilt in perspective for the PERFECT mystery. And it is a RABBIT HOLE of discovery as the book goes on and on. There is no typical structure to be seen in this novel. I know I gasped several times while reading this. I was so engulfed that I felt like I was sitting in a rocking chair on the front porch of my lake cabin, observing this drama firsthand. Get ready for some iced tea, y'all!

A special thank you to Jamie Day, NetGalley, and St. Martin's Press for this delectable summer read in exchange for my honest review.

I really enjoyed this book! I haven’t had a chance to read The Block Party or One Big Happy Family yet but I’m excited to now! This book had me theorizing early on, and I definitely yelled WHAT a few times, I fell into all the tricks of the twists and did not guess any of them really. I really enjoyed Izzy’s determination to her mission, I don’t want to spoil anything so I don’t want to say too much else but, it was satisfying! Julia was also really inspiring with her compassion and rationality! I thought the characters were very relatable and realistic in their actions. Some of the twists were a little out of left field which is why I didn’t guess them! You definitely have to suspend reality just a little bit for the end of this one but not too bad! If you’re looking for a medium then fast paced thriller this is definitely one I would recommend!
