Indigo: Alien Hunting Grounds Book 1

Rate this book
It was a mistake to let us meet, but they won't live to regret it.

Ree
I've seen the worst of humanity as an ER nurse, but that didn't prepare me for the depths of evil out among the stars.
They took me, altered me, and placed me in charge of nine women who suffered the same, though they don't yet know it.

They each sleep in their protective cryogenic chambers.

A crash separated us, and now we face the dangers of an alien hunting ground. Hunters come here to stalk the most dangerous males found among the stars.

I must save them, but how will I survive the hunters... or the prey?

Thivoll
I never thought my mate would be from the more primitive species. When I saw them trying to recapture her, I knew it was my chance to redeem myself for being unable to protect the women of my pride.

My kind was once the most feared in the known universe.

Until we took the path of peace.

But I'll embrace my ancient barbaric past, because she is mine.

It's time the hunters became the hunted.

Books in this series end in a HFN. They can be read alone, but it will take all of the women and their mates to fight for their collective HEA. It will be more enjoyable if read in sequence.

This series is meant for readers 18+ and includes explicit sex and violence. Beware of triggers.

I absolutely Frekn love this book! There’s soo much going on with it. The world building and character building is amazing. Character descriptions are fun and not your usual. Lots of side characters are set up for later books, hopefully 9. I’ve annotated this book more than most what a thrill!

Thivoll is a strong male who never seen his Ree coming. He scents her and he’s done for. She is strong yet still has a soft heart being a nurse. She just wants to save the women she’s tried to protect and he’s gonna help her do it.
Make No mistake this is an intense tension filled slow burn baby!!! This book gives us a really solid 5 star plot and when the spicy scenes come oh they come 😉 “So. Hot. So. Wet. So. Tight.”

Be sure to read trigger warnings this book has some dark points. Warnings; (None of the following are by the MMC) forced arousal, body modification, manipulation, mind games, noncon/dubcon, torture, threat of rape, trafficking, withholding basic human needs.
Tropes; (with the MMC) size diff, humor, banter, purring, stretching, tail play, unique p33n,adorable nicknames, spanking, forced proximity, fun miscommunication in language translation, swords cross, touch her and d!e, and dated mates.

Alright, let me introduce you to Ree, an ER nurse who gets abducted by aliens to be sex slaves. She’s modified and thrown into a haram with a group of other women, and while they’re all in stasis, she endures the gross advances of these slime-like aliens trying to sell them off. Just when things seem totally hopeless, the ship crashes on a tech-dampened planet where sentient species are hunted. Ree seizes her chance to escape when her fellow captives are scattered in all different directions and meets Thivoll, a fierce Manticorid who’s been left behind to be hunted. Together, they’ve got to navigate this dangerous planet and rescue the others.

Ree is such a realistic and engaging character! She struggles with a heavy sense of responsibility for the other women, but to cope with her trauma, she becomes fixated on one of her fellow prisoners’ health. As the chaos around her ramps up, Ree has to face the harsh truth that she can’t save everyone. Plus, she’s got to adapt to some new changes in her body and her unexpected attraction to Thivoll. She’s definitely a well-rounded, nuanced character!

And can we talk about Thivoll? He’s like this giant superkitty protector we didn’t know we needed! Seriously, I need more artwork of this magnificent beast!

“Indigo” is a fantastic alien romance packed with a diverse range of aliens, each with their own cultures and backgrounds. There’s plenty of lighthearted miscommunication and social awkwardness that adds just the right amount of levity. The themes of struggling with a lack of control and adjusting to change create a super interesting backdrop for the romance. The sexual tension between Ree and Thivoll is off-the-charts, and when they finally give in to their desires, it’s seriously spicy! 🔥

Overall, this was such an enjoyable read! I received an advance review copy for free, and I’m leaving this review voluntarily. Be sure to grab it when it releases on September 1st!

This is a fantastic, thrilling and spellbinding story I could not put it down. Indigo is a fascinating woman. She began as Ree a ER nurse until one night she was abducted and sold to alien slavers. The slavers have modified the women to be stronger and more resilient, able to survive life as an alien’s sex slave. Indigo is amazing, caring and brilliant, her life is about to change forever. The spaceship crashed on the deadly planet used for hunting. Thivol is abducted and wakes on Thela forsaken hunting ground and Thivol has become the hunted. He saw the Genali ship crash, the Genali survivors will be hunting for their cargo. Indigo and Thivol meet, they are amazing together. They plan to hunt the hunters, find supplies, look for the other women and hopefully find other victims. This is the beginning of a thrilling journey filled with adventure, surprises, danger and a beautiful love story for each of the women and their mates. I can’t wait for the next book.

***NEW SERIES TO SINK MY TEETH INTO!***

I loved alien/human romances. I thought i wouldn't find one that I liked after the (Barbarian series) but I stumbled upon this gem of a book. The action is high octane, and the character development is on point.

What an amazing sci-fi! Fantastic world-building, realistic characters, action, mystery, spice - this book has it all! The MMC is really alien-looking, and I loved how he and the heroine gradually got used to each other's differences and found love in the hard situation they were in. A new favourite sci-fi series!

Thank you to the author and her team for sending me an arc.

This first book was, without a doubt, one of the strongest foundations I've ever read in a sci-fi
romance. It had many interesting concepts and ideas that just made sense. In fact, they were so absorbing I found myself excited to read the next one in the series.

there was a solid world-building with fascinating background characters that piqued my curiosity
every time a new one appeared, but that was also an issue because they were so fascinating, our main characters seemed mundane compared to them.

I liked Bree in the beginning but her character development remained stagnant for far too long. She was an overly emotional character and while some of it was justified, at times I felt like it was too much especially considering her line of work as en ER nurse. You would think she would have a better control over her emotions after working in a high-pressure environment. However, you could argue her emotions were realistic taking into account she was abducted, trafficked, and taken to a whole new world with creatures she never thought existed.

If she changed for better or worse throughout the story, I feel like that's up to the reader to decide.

Thivoll didn't really make an impression on me and honestly some of the dialogue between these two characters read awkward at times which caused me to be skeptical about the whole romance. The spicy scenes were well-written but the chemistry outside of that was lacking.

I don't think this book needed to be this long since some chapters read repetitive and some others were inconsequential.

The potential is there, I just need to see it through the eyes of characters I can care about.

Next one's Coral, and she seemed like such a fierce character. Can't wait to check her story out!

I wanted to like it!

I wanted to like this so much! It has a lot of potential. I like it when there’s true trauma and the author Kyla Breene doesn’t shy away from the some of the traumatic things that happen to the FMC but the romance was disappointing, it didn’t feel like the two MCs loved each other, but were put together and are attracted to one another. There’s a huge focus on the world and setting up future stories and while it was important I think it took a lot away from this story.

I also feel like there was a pacing issue, and some things were just jarring in what was said and how. I felt very confused from one moment to the next and they were attacked soooooo many times.

Hooray, a great new sci-fi romance series!!! We start with the familiar premise of human women being abducted to be sex slaves, but the "slimes" genetically modify them in a variety of ways to be, ah, more accommodating, if you will. They also heal faster, look younger, and have jewel toned hair. Our heroine, Ree, was an ER nurse on Earth but now she's nominally in charge of the other abductees, who are in stasis on their way to the auction block. The ship runs into trouble and crashes on a "primitive" planet, used by various species as a hunting ground.

Thivoll is a truly alien alien hero. He's a manticorid, which is a bit like the manticore from Earth mythology. Bright orange fur, black scales, extra joints in his limbs, extra rows of teeth (!), and an extra-long tail with a stinger on the end, the works. Manticorids were previously a warlike species that ruled a lot of the galaxy, but they're now "enlightened" and keep to themselves, which has also resulted in a large percentage of their females being captured by the slimes. Thivoll is essentially an HVAC tech on space stations, and his small ship is intercepted and he's captured as well.

Well of course these two end up on the hunter planet together, and Thivoll is an absolute sweetie to Ree. One of her modifications was translation ability that actually changed the shape of her throat, which I thought was a fun twist. Ree convinces Thivoll to help her look for any women who might have survived the crash in their stasis pods; since she was the only one awake she feels responsible for them, and has latched on to one in particular, Silver, as kind of a talisman to keep her sane and focused. It's a little creepy and unhealthy, and it takes some gentle prodding by Thivoll to get her to realize that she can't save the other women by putting herself into constant danger.

Ree and Thivoll do find a few other women, and realizing that they can't keep them near because of the genetic modifications, find and convince other "prey" on the planet to take care of them. Interestingly I don't think either of the women found in this book are title heroines in the rest of the series, so I wonder if their stories will be told. All in all, I loved this book from start to finish; Ree and Thivoll are both well-rounded characters, there's a good mix of external and internal conflict, and I'm definitely going to read the rest of the series!

ER nurse MFC Ree is abducted from Earth and wakes to find herself in the hands of what she thinks of as slimes, Genali alien slavers who have modified her humanity along with other captured human women who are a much sought after commodity. Unable to use their real names without being subjected to punishment she now calls herself Indigo because of the modifications that have changed her coloring, and is put in charge of the others.

MMC Thivoll is a Manticorid whose felidae species was once feared across the universe, until taking the path of peace, now a prisoner of the Genali and deposited on a hunter planet to be used as sport.

When the Genali ship comes under attack and crashes on the hunter planet Ree the only one not secured in a cryo pod luckily survives. She can only hope the others have survived after witnessing their pods being sucked out of the damaged ship.

Indigo is the first book of this Alien Hunting Grounds series and a very entertaining

Sci-Fi romance that was filled with action, adventure, intrigue, suspense, and captivating writing.

The world building was excellent and once Thivoll encounters Ree and realizes he has found his mate in a human of all things the action becomes even more intense as his protective instincts kick in, and when they get around to quenching their “thrist” for each other everything works out in spicy goodness.

How they survive, and grow closer after joining forces to locate the other women delivered a wonderfully immersive read with drama of course, and leaves me looking forward to the next book as this one ends on a HFN and I can’t wait to see where things lead for the other women in future stories.

ER nurse Ree is abducted by aliens, modified and put in charge of a group of similarly modified women in a haram. While the other women are in stasis, she has to endure the abuse of the slime-like aliens as they attempt to entice potential buyers of the women. When the ship abruptly crashes on a technologically dampened planet used for the hunting of sentient species, her fellow prisoners are scattered, and Ree is able to make her escape. She meets Thivoll, a dangerous Manticorid, who has been abducted and left on the planet to be hunted. Can the two of them work together to survive the planet's dangers and save the other humans?

Ree is an extremely pragmatic and likable character. She struggles with feelings of extreme responsibility to the other women. Unfortunately, to help herself deal with the trauma and stressors of her current life, she becomes fixated on the health one of her fellow prisoners. As circumstances outside her control continue to build up, Ree is forced to realize that she might not be able to save everyone. Furthermore, she has to adjust to the new changes in her body, as well as her attraction to Thivoll. In general, she was a nuanced and well-realized character.

Indigo is a very well written alien romance with a variety of aliens with varied cultures and backgrounds. There is plenty of lighthearted miscommunication and social awkwardness to inject levity at the perfect time. Themes of struggling with lack of control and adapting to changes makes for an interesting backdrop to the more romantic elements. Overall an enjoyable read.

I finished reading Indigo by Kyla Breene. It is an alien kidnap book (not the hero), dual POV and the first of what I guess will be a ten book series.

Ree the heroine is an ER nurse who was kidnapped by aliens and genetically modified to make her more “sellable”. She is in a room with nine other women who are all in cryopods who all have distinctly colored hair and eye. She has indigo hair and eyes. She has been designated by the aliens to be the keeper of the other women - explaining the rules, etc. This is a very harsh world with rape and trafficking.

The ship that is transporting the women crash lands on a hunting planet; a planet stocked with prey (other sentient beings) that they hunt for fun.

That's where Ree meets Thorvin a manticore (neon orange and lilac-lion face with black lizard scales and claws and a tail with scorpion venom.)

Her description of Thorvin: “His long mane extends well down his back, coming to a tapered point a few inches away from where his tail starts. It looks just as elegant as you would expect in a feline's tail, shifting with him in graceful sweeps and bounces as he walks. It has a large black ovoid shape at the end that comes to a point, which is covered in the same shiny black scales as his throat arms and paws”

He at first thinks she is disgusting to look at but then finds her adorable and arousing.

Later in the book she teaches him about the different types of kisses, it’s kind of sweet in between the life and death negotiations.

The rest of the book is them sharing their stories and culture, trying to stay alive, hunt the other hunters to ally themselves with the other prey and find the women. Ree feels responsible for them and doesn’t want to leave any behind.

When they finally have sex it’s fantastic because they both have been aroused for a long time.

His comment when they finally had sex made me laugh: “ When I considered the possibilities afforded by her radically different anatomy I had no idea it could be this pleasurable.”

I’m looking forward to the next book.

I absolutely LOVED this book. I went in blind, only knowing it was an alien romance, and that the cover is stunning. And I was so pleasantly surprised by how good this book was and how quickly and easily it captivated me.

This new series gives Ice Planet Barbarian vibes (women kidnapped for alien sex trafficking, and end up crash landing on a planet) but from there it takes on a completely new and exciting story. The plot was interesting, and kept me intrigued. I liked the world building, all of the setup being making for future books, and that we got lots of different types of aliens.

The FMC was smart and capable. I liked that she was brave and felt a responsibility for the other women. The MMC was everything you want in a MMC, but also an alien MMC. He was fierce, dangerous, and protective, and also a complete marshmallow. I loved it. I liked their interactions and the connection they formed.

We got delicious spice in the book. I wouldn't say the book is super spicy, but we were fed well. My only complaint is, we don't get an actual description of what the MMC peen looks like until like the last spicy scene. I was left so curious and confused the entire time trying to figure it out 🤣

This book has the potential to be a really great new alien romance series. The plot is good. The world building is great. The characters are likeable. The smut is delicious. All the makings of a great series! I cannot wait for the next book.

🇮🇹 🇬🇧⬇️

🇬🇧

The main characters got under my skin. Very fast.

There wasn’t a moment where i said “meh”. I loved the world building, the descriptions and the genetica mutations (you’ll understand🤭).

The book is part of a series of standalones and i LOVE it. The 10 MFC fall on this planet without technology which is used to hunt other species for sport. Ree, the first MFC, meet her fierce alien pretty soon, and he will do absolutely anything to protect her 🤭😍

I found it all very fascinating and I absolutely loved the dual pov.

If you’re searching for a story with: alien abduction, stranded on a planet without technology, love at first sight, interspecies smut and a rescue mission, this book is perfect.

It goes without saying: i can’t wait for the second to come out🥹🤭

This was cute! I enjoyed Ree as a character. She is the only one out of the group of abducted women who is allowed to be awake and aware the entire time they’re on the ship. Unfortunately she is made to entertain the other aliens watching a live stream of the women. Occasionally another woman is woken up but it’s only ever brief enough for her to try and explain what’s going on.

The ship they’re in ends up crashing on a hunting grounds that is used to hunt other sentient creatures. That’s where she meets Thivoll. Closely resembling a giant cat but with odd coloring he is enamored and wants to help her in her quest to rescue the other women who have also crash landed. Their relationship is adorable and though it felt a bit heavy handed on the conversation and the one track mindedness of trying to find the other women it was a cute story! I just wanted more interaction between them or them exploring for more than just supplies. But that’s me being picky. I’m looking forward to the other ones coming out.

What a great book! I loved it from the beginning to the end and I can't wait for the next one in the series.
The start is a little dark, as is the underlying theme of the book, so definitely check the trigger warnings before reading, but I loved it even despite the darkness. Maybe even because of it.
The chemistry between the characters is great, their interactions funny and realistic. A bit of a language barrier adds to how interesting the book is.
The worldbuilding is meticulous and well thought-out. I can't wait to read other books about the other aliens who were briefly mentioned here, and how they will bond with the other kidnapped women.
The book was well written, without any mistakes, and it kept my attention despite being longer than what I normally read. It just sucks you in and doesn't let you go until you read the last page, and even then, you'll keep thinking about what happens next! (There's not really a cliffhanger, though, just a teaser from book 2).
Truly loved it. Well earned 5*

I really liked it. He is a manticore alien. He has a venomous tail that stabs enemies. He has a mane and scales and claws. He has very sharp teeth. He has a long tongue.

She was kidnapped by bad aliens. She was working as an emergency room nurse. They genetically modified her eyes and hair color to be indigo. They plan to sell her and a bunch of other human women as sex slaves.

The spaceship crashes on a hunting preserve planet. Technology does not work there.
The hero is supposed to be a dangerous trophy for bad aliens to hunt. The hero was kidnapped by the same bad aliens to be "dangerous prey" for hunters who pay a fortune to hunt dangerous trophies. He finds the heroine and they team up to survive.

Along the way they fall in love and have very steamy moments.

She is trying to rescue the other women. They were in stasis pods and are scattered around the planet due to the crash. Other aliens (prey) who are supposed to be hunted on the planet have joined their team and are trying to find the missing women. Book 2 will be titled, "Coral" but is not released yet.

This is the first novel I have read from this author. Holy crap, this is good! Not only is it well written but it actually has a well thought out storyline that this story is just the beginning of. The story basically involves a few kidnapped women from Earth that have been “altered” genetically to be sold into a sex slave ring. These woman are on route to an auction when the slavers starship crashes on a remote planet used by aliens to hunt another, weaker aliens..think about the “Predator “ movies! Ree, one of the surviving woman, meets Thivoll, a kidnapped alien himself and together they set out to find a way off the planet, save the other women and not get themselves killed! There is a lot of spice once Ree and Thivoll find each other. And there are some funny moments when Thivoll try’s to grasp and understand human sayings. I highly, highly recommend this book and can’t wait for the next one in this series. I did receive an Arc copy.

This one was…weird. Most of what I read here lately is considered weird, but this one took it to another level. Yet, I was intrigued. Mostly by the “upgrade” given to the FMC that allowed her to translate so many languages, control her clothing, heal herself, and assimilate to her companion. The storyline and world were really fascinating, but the narrative got hung up a few times and repetitive at other times. And also, I need a slightly more humanoid alien as a love interest. A manticore is not something I could ever find attractive, although I did like the character of Thivoll. This couple weirdly worked, but I’m not sure I want to read more of this series because the other aliens mentioned in passing left a lot to be desired.

This is a tale you need a quiet, comfy place to block out the world and read. I'll admit that it was a little difficult to get into at the start, but once it hooked, I was all in. It's a slow build with a lot of info, worry, and adventure. I'm looking forward to seeing where the tale goes in the future as the seeds of intrigue were well planted with the inclusion of additional prey the pair in this tale came across and the missing women Ree feels responsible for protecting. I hope they all make it back together and Ree is relieved of what she feels she owes the others.

My thoughts about this book:

1) Not your typical alien kidnapping story.

2) FMC is not 'ditzy & clueless' nor an 'overly angry & stubborn' woman. I actually loved the sensible-ness and thought processes of Ree.

3) It is a slow burn romance but worth it.

4) It's not exactly the happiest of endings because it leaves room for the other stories to follow.

5) I was intimidated by the 400+ pages but zoomed through this one.

6) More plot than spicy scenes.

Overall- really enjoyed this and thankful for the ARC from the author. Will definitely be keeping an eye out on the next one.

This was a new author for me and will admit it was the art and covers that appealed to me. I did purchase this book but also received an ARC via another site. :D
It is a Sci Fi series.
The characters are strong and have much to deal with in their journey. Ree in looking after those she works to save and Thivoll who sees her as his mate and turns the tail on those who hunt.
There is a touch of humour and spice, and they do get a sort of happily ever after for now, but you know there will be more.

I loved the world building and the characters in this book. It was a well written, well developed romance book, with a captivating plot. This book was refreshing. In the world of monster and alien romances a lot of it can seem very similar, but this one stands out. I loved Thivoll and how he was unlike any alien I have read about before. This book started in a similar way to the Clecanian Series and Ice Planet Barbarians, but then went down it's own unique path. I definitely recommend this book, I absolutely loved it.

Indigo follows Ree as she is kidnapped from Earth, flown across the galaxy, and ends up stranded on an alien made hunting planet. Thivoll, while on route to his job, is also kidnapped and released onto the hunting grounds as prey when he comes across Ree.

I enjoyed this book. I really enjoyed the world building. It was easy to follow but immersive. I liked the actual planet, being full of different types of plants and insects, both similar to earth but also very different.

I enjoyed Ree's character. However, she did become somewhat annoying with her obsession with Silver. She was strong and smart. She used her human world knowledge and translated it into her own survival. Managing to keep her calm despite what was thrown at her. Thivoll was adorable, and I loved his personality. Both playful and serious, and the way he kept getting startled whenever Ree smiled.

The spice was brilliant, and I thoroughly enjoyed it, especially with the seemingly innocent touches!

Overall, I really enjoyed this book. It had me kicking my feet with how cute some parts were and cackling at others.

The concept and story line for this alien romance was awesome. I thought it was pretty unique (I mean after reading many alien romance books the set up does become a bit repetitive) The hunting ground idea is different and leaves so much room for different types of alien species and I can't wait to see what comes next.
I also really enjoyed how Thivoll is very alien looking and language barriers brought out some really funny lines.
I would say that I think as this series goes on it will get even better. I felt like the beginning of this book did take me a minute to get into. However, the whole middle of this book was quite fun. The ending went on for just a smidge too long in my opinion but it did really set up the next books, so...🤷‍♀️ Like I said, I really want to know how this series continues. I do suspect they will really start to come into themselves as the books go on

I just really had a hard time getting into this book. I didn’t really connect at all with the FMC. The intro of her and the after kidnapping by aliens made her feel like 2 different people, too. It also felt like it dragged so slowly that I got bored and lost interest.

At my age (63), life is way to short & my time is to important to force myself to read a book I'm not enjoying, especially when there are so many other books out there waiting to be read.

Absolutely fantastic attention to detail. Great character and world building. Not a HEA and no resolution to the story, it simply passes to the next character.

I loved watching the characters change as they got to know each other and learned to work as a unit. Very inventive aliens. Fast paced plot with both action and intimacy. Thankfully no fated-mates or insta-love… but there is insta-lust…and a very lovely size difference.

KB has a new fan in me.

A fun read but the characters meld together at some point. Their voices are not distinct enough and it pulls away from the storytelling. I also had some body horror reaction to the transformations she underwent!
I was hoping they would be able to escape before the book ended but I guess the story continues in the next book. The other male characters are very interesting and I would love to see what their cultures are like. Will pick up the next book in the future.

This book was such a pleasure! It seemed like every I picked up was shallow and cutesy, and then I found Indigo. This is some real exceptional writing and world-building. The depth and character development are refreshing. There is a real plot here, a real story, and a heroine I could relate to. Looking forward to the next book.

Read the sample and think "this might be interesting" ugh..not. To sum it up it reads like a Male cat lovers wet dream, just gross. The MMC is a cat, not a manticore , A Cat. The FMC has been kidnapped by slimy aliens , her DNA changed so now she's constantly horny with long hair and she enlarged breasts..etc. You get it?

Good story

I enjoyed this story. First exposure to these authors. The,main female character was very annoying at times when she was irrational and put her and MMC in danger. Finally she began to realize how dangerous her behavior was. Unusual modifications were made to her and other females. Very clever and different.
