The Guardians #1

The Broken Warrior's Daughter

Rate this book
Cara Nelson is the daughter of two Guardians. Her mother gave her life saving the pack's Luna and their young son, Rik, the future alpha. Her father became paralyzed while protecting the pack's Alpha. Cara is meant to become the Guardian for Rik when he takes over as Alpha, but Rik doesn't even know who she is. When the Alpha of a neighboring pack expresses his desire to take her as his mate, Cara gets caught in a battle between Alphas. Both of them want her as their Luna, but is it only because she is a Guardian who can strengthen their pack? While balancing her attraction to two alphas, she finds her destiny may not be as clear as she thought. Rather than her wolf having the soul of a reborn guardian like her mother and father, Cara learns that she and her wolf are the only ones in history known to have been born a guardian. When a third contender for Cara's hand tries to force her to become his Luna, her Alphas must rescue her before it's too late. Cara is destined to be a Luna, but will it be by force, by fate, or will she make her own choice? This is Book One of the Guardian trilogy.

One of those IG adds sucked me in - found a link on Reddit to read this story. (I'll paste at the bottom)

Usually these on-line stories go on forever and sometimes you don't get any answers or an ending but you do with this one, which is nice. There is another book it roles into after this one ends. I would guess this book is around the 350 page park if it was on a Kindle, it took me roughly 7 hours to read it, and that's my average for a 350-ish page book.

You do get to find out who her mate is, you get a 2yr post ending epilogue.
I did find myself liking the FMC (Cara) and the Alphas that want her.

This is an easy read, there will be misspellings and some of the pages get mixed up, but overall, you're able to read the story for free with the link below.

I believe that this book was an ad on Tiktok for the app goodnovel and it hooked me immediately. BUT I am also a sucker for a mated wolf story. I loved Cara's character in everyway and the dynamic between her and Rik, plus the added portion of Liam. I would love to see some fan art of Rik, to be honest. I can't help be somewhat heartbroken for Liam - I really wanted him to find him mate and I was hoping it may have been the missing wolf spirit.

I would have really liked to have had more meat when it came to Cara's birthday party and Rik's alpha party/ celebration as that was the huge hype since the beginning of the story. While I appreciated the epilogue, I felt that it left with too many questions. I wanted to see more of Cara fighting and the war. That was a large part of the story that shouldn't have been skipped, in my opinion. I just over all wanted more detail.

While for the most part I LOVED Cooper's writing and attention to character details, the dual pov was rough at times. Especially when Cara and Rik had similar feelings and dialogue. Being on the app where coins are needed to read the story I felt like I was wasting those coins on portions I didn't need to.

I haven't decided yet if I want to continue reading this series or not as I believe the next story is Liam's.

Great start to an interesting trilogy

First, let’s talk about the Guardians, as the trilogy is really about them. A guardian is a blessed wolf shifter, gifted with uncommon speed, strength and a few other gifts. While they are mostly females, there is an occasional male among them. They pledge their lives to their alpha, and become a personal bodyguard to the alpha and their family, willing to sacrifice their lives if need be. They bring power to a pack and make them stronger. Due to this, many alpha’s coveted them and would force a bond with either themselves or their heir to make their pack stronger. This angered the moon goddess, so she withdrew this ability and now guardians are very rare, and now hunted even more than before.

So, now that I have laid the foundation, let’s talk about the first book in this series. A M A Z I N G. Loved it from cover to cover. Cara Nelson is the central guardian in this story. At nearly 18 years old, she’s the strongest wolf in the pack. She is the only known “born” guardian - as most guardians are selected by the moon goddess and inherit the wolf spirit from a previous guardian. (As an aside, there are a couple of guardian spirits that cross over in this trilogy, and it’s kinda weird to have a wolf that was previously in another character, now in the body of a different character. While they carry the memories of all their past lives, they don’t have the emotions attached. You’ll just have to read the story to understand it. But it is well done.) Cara is even more gifted as both of her parents were guardians.

Rik, our alpha heir, seems to be typical of alpha heirs in these romance books . . . Super tall, super handsome, and a bit arrogant. He notices Cara at school one day and tries to flirt with her, but she is having none of it. Her mother died protecting the Luna and a very young Rik, and she’s offended that for all that sacrifice, he doesn’t know who she is. There’s a lot to unravel there and it’s kinda delicious getting there. The fly in the ointment is Liam, the alpha of a neighboring pack who is falling in love with Cara. Likewise, she has feelings for him, but is very honest with him that fated mates are very important to her and she is saving herself for her mate. When Rik finally realizes who Cara is, it now becomes a contest between the two alphas to win her heart. While they’d both like to have a guardian in their pack, they both really do love her for her, not just the power that she brings. There’s some funny moments and some gut wrenching moments while this “competition” is going on.

I LOVED this book and all the characters in it. It’s fast paced, storyline is very engaging, and obviously, the character building was very good. I highly recommend this book and the series as a whole.

I read part of this book in the past song then lost it, finally found it shaking on an Instagram post. One of those videos that usually advertise a reading app that are hella expensive. Since I read part of it before I was able to skim until k found where I left off.

I liked this book just as much as I did the past! Rik was the typical arrogant alpha who got any girl he wanted but met his match in Cara. He knew who Cara was as her family are guardians and her mother saved his life and that of his mom but lost her life in the process. The only problem? His parents never introduced them, so when I saw her first time he made a complete ass of himself and set a wrong impression on Cara.

Thought that was the worst of it? Nooope, Rik finds out that another alpha; alpha Liam, is already profiting perusing Cara and him and Kai don’t like that. He develops a plan to get her to give him a chance by his birthday. And then win her heart by her birthday because he just knows she belongs to him and Kai.

I enjoyed the book; it’s not as short as I thought but not super long either. Doesn’t drag anything out. I am also very happy to know there are two more books I plan to devour as well

Much more ‘believable’ than the other werewolf romance I’ve read. Good character development and backstory. I liked how it periodically switched perspectives so you didn’t only see the story develop through Cara’s eyes.

DNF. Do NOT make me pay for each chapter. Amazon has Print On Demand services and I will gladly buy one and support indie authors for a good story. This is one of the few I am not happy I started and can't finish without giving these crappy apps money. Cooper, I narrate audiobooks for a living as well as offer editing services and if you're willing to get this book out there to people, then let me know.

This was a sweet fated mate story. Interesting to read and there was good world building with all the details of their world.

My reason for the low rating is that the entire book is just basically background of the people and then just fluff after a little drama. And the drama…. She’s supposed to be the most powerful wolf in the world and yet she wasn’t able to fight her captors or get away? At some point in the book it says she’s resistant to silver. So why did she let them get her all the way to that abandoned house? That didn’t really make sense to me that she didn’t fight at all after Rik was released by the rogues. How is she able to take down every wolf in her pack but is suddenly helpless?

Then, after a little bit of drama, like I said it’s just the 7 weeks leading up to her birthday so she can realize who her mate is. It was sweet and I enjoyed it- until I read the epilogues. WTF? The epilogues briefly summarized what could have been entire books. it seemed like all the things that their story was leading to were just not part of the book, and were summarized in a few sentences in the epilogue just saying what ended up happening. Why not continue the series by actually writing what happened? An entire war? Cara almost died? That’s not something you do in a two sentence summary.
And maybe that part of the story is in the next two books but it didn’t seem like it, and I don’t want the story written from a different character’s POV than Cara and Rik so I won’t be continuing. But the series should have been about continuing Rik and Cara’s story into this war they talk about, not switching to another character.

Unexpectedly, really good. I didn’t have much hope because I’ve read a ton of really bad pay by chapter werewolf books, but this one is great and I hope it becomes a traditional book or an indie book because more people need to read it, but I don’t think most people are going to be into paying so much each chapter.

This is gonna be kind of a review for the entirety of the series because I’ve read all of them at this point .
The actual reading of them is annoying as hell because once again it’s paid by chapter or you find one of those free with pop-ups situations. Either way it sucks.

The world is super detailed as are the characters in the plot lines. It is in no way just spice the way some of them are and I shed more than a few tears.
The love stories and the idea of family and the people around you are central to this series.

If you’ve got money to spare and you’re looking for a world to get involved in, it’s worth it. But if spending more than $10 on a book isn’t in your budget, then the series isn’t for you.

Specifically in this book, while I loved the relationship of the FMC and the MMC I gotta be honest I aged him up a bit in my head. In case anybody’s wondering they’re both 21 and 22 and in college 😂😂😂
I don’t see why authors always make them 17 turning 18. Why can’t they be real adults? It’s like nobody remembers how damn stupid they were at 17. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Stupid and sassy. Hormones, angst, kidnapping, fated mated, and more make an appearance. It has some fantasy world elements but they are mostly set dressing for relationship drama. If you can look beyond uncomfortable ages (and age gaps) and the short, cliffhanger style chaptering meant for predatory apps--there is some lighthearted fun to be had here. The grand gestures are humorous to imagine. The parental relationships help ground some moments. The dual perspectives often don't add much beside repetition disappointingly. With some proper editing it might have been something grand, instead of limping by as clickbait distractions. However, there is much worse out there in that category.

New genere of books i didn't know existed. It's a quick read that captures you from the beginning. Some grammar issues in spots can make it a little challenging but still enjoyable. Clint is a guardian of the pack that lost his mates years ago and has been in a wheelchair since. He has been training their daughter Cara, as the next generation of guardians. Alpha Anders & Luna Calista are both strong, compassionate leaders. Rik is the future Alpha of the pack and is a bit of a playboy until he learns of his mate Cara. Their relationship blossoms as he tries to prove himself worthy without revealing they are mates so she can learn it herself and trust him by her birthday.

Ebook Edition (read on Good Novel)
3 1/2 stars

Cara Nelson is powerful & the only guardian ever born. While dating an alpha from another pack, Liam, her pack’s alpha, Rik, begins to show interest. Both alphas want her as their luna. They shower her with gifts trying to outdo the other. At a party, Cara is taken by a rogue alpha who will stop at nothing to make her his.
What will happen to Cara? Will she be rescued? Which alpha will she choose & which will be heartbroken?
There were some minor mistakes in the book but overall I liked the story. I’m a sucker for a love triangle & this one was great. I liked the little sweet moments.

I really enjoyed this book; the storyline about Guardians is a little different from other werewolf stories. And I like that Cara is such a strong character, and the romance didn't feel as forced or rushed. I also like the backstory; it wasn't too convoluted. I feel like in other books I've read, because they've built up so much suspense about "why the character is special", that they introduce overly messy backstories which just complicates the story without value. I enjoyed it so much that I read the 2 other books in this series.

I really enjoyed this book. Cara is beyond impressive as a warrior. Rik appears to be the typical alpha heir, but he really grows on you. I love how the author keeps yiu engaged in the story even when you think you think you know where it's going.

Would love a downloadable version of the author's books that are available outside of paid platforms so will look as i really enjoyed the story

Eventhough this book is easy to read, the writing errors were making me confused the whole time. Needed deep editing, because this does not happen once or twice.

The book plot had potential but towards the end it's just doesn't feel like it's worth 150-ish pages.
