A mythical island. A magical cure. A choice between duty and love.
Lennox Holt has spent her life preparing for her twenty-first birthday ceremony, where she will finally be recognized as the future queen of Blackwood. Her father, the king, has ignored her, keeping her hidden away from the kingdom under the guise of ‘protection’, ever since her birth caused her mother to fall into a perpetual sleep.
Isolated and alone, she’s all but given up hope of ever having a loving parent or family until she learns of a mythical island named Dawnlin that is said to hold a cure for any ailment. When her ceremony doesn’t go as planned, she takes matters into her own hands and seeks the Guardian to take her to the island so she can heal her mother.
Along the way, she meets Dane, a handsome and mysterious stranger who is seeking the same elixir. But Lennox doesn’t know the island is full of magic and secrets, including the location of the cure.
Hunted by the dangers of the land, both magical and human, Lennox must survive while searching and avoiding the clutches of the Castaways, who are trying to steal the cure for selfish reasons. After finding everything on the island she has always dreamed of — freedom, family, and love — Lennox must decide if the duty to her kingdom and the promise to her mother outweigh her new life on Dawnlin.
Dawn of Hope is the first book in a debut New Adult Fantasy Romance trilogy, for readers who love coming of age, found family, slow burn romance, hidden identity, and magical systems. It is meant for adult audiences with spice levels increasing throughout the series.
Amanda Briar has been an avid reader of romance, both fantasy and contemporary, since middle school, and loves to watch a good rom-com or fantasy series. After starting a family and deciding her career wasn’t for her anymore, she took a chance to fulfill a lifelong dream to write books. As a self-proclaimed Disney Adult who grew up craving a happy ending, she now writes them herself. She currently lives in California with her family, and still loves reading, baking, movies, and going to Disneyland.
This book was so freaking good! I was recommended by a friend and I picked it up right away. From the first page, I was sucked in. The writing was well done and I found myself feeling immersed in the story. My heart went out to Lennox and that connection only grew once she met Dane. This is a loose Peter Pan retelling and I think it was done *more* than well! I can’t wait to read the next book.
3.85 ⭐️ This retelling of peter pan was quite good! This whole first book really sets up the next book! After being locked in her castle for twenty-one years, Lennox takes a chance to find healing by going to a magical land, filled with friends/family you never had, and a mysterious man whom you trust more than the MMC….what could possibly go wrong? Easy read easy dialogue will be reading the next one!
I sometimes watch this author on her YouTube channel and purchase the book when she mentioned it. I feel so bad that I was unable to love the book more. I never connected with the characters. To be honest, none of the characters seem to connect with each other. I wish more was written about who the characters are, what makes them tick. Although Lennox grew up sheltered she tends to believe that she know better than the people around her that tries to protect her. I wish that I was able to see some maturity or character growth. It felt more like an adolescent book rather than an adult fantasy romance. Aspects of the story reminded me of Peter Pan. I am not a literary expert so I am not sure if the shortcomings of the book were deliberate decisions by the author to meet the standards for a younger audience. I am not a fan of this book but I might consider reading the next one in hopes of it getting better
I had no idea this book was a neverland vibe, I kept thinking these are totally missing children.. I 100% think we've got a Tamlin situation here, Crossing my fingers for Weston! *maybe spoiler, I think Fin got the cure & got to go home!* I had a great time reading this story. The only semi negative but not necessarily bad thing I have to say is that it felt very immature, more of a YA than NA. But that is just my opinion!

Sometimes, a book comes out of nowhere and blows you away. Dawn of Hope is that book! I’ve always been a fan of Peter Pan inspired stories, but I find few fully capture the magic. Dawn of Hope did it beautifully, perfectly balancing adventure, mystery, and a sense of wonder.
Amanda Briar’s vivid writing completely immersed me in the world of Dawnlin. I explored alongside Lennox, fully captivated. I couldn’t put the book down and didn’t want to leave the enchanting world Briar has created. Lennox is a strong and determined heroine, pulled between finding a life for herself and her sense of duty and responsibility.
The romance is slow burn, so don’t go into this book expecting very much spice. That being said, I loved the build up of chemistry and tension between the characters, and there were some steamy moments for sure🔥
What truly set Dawn of Hope apart was it’s emotional depth. We explore Lennox’s loneliness, her yearning for parental love, and the found family she discovers along the way really pulled at my heart strings. I’ll admit, I cried more than once(And I don’t cry easily when reading!)
I haven’t been able to stop thinking about this book, my mind running back to Dawnlin often. I have so many theories for book 2! If you haven’t picked up Dawn Of Hope yet, please do, this book deserves so much more attention!
**Thank you to Amanda Briar for gifting me a copy of your amazing book! I can’t wait to read what you write next💚**
Amanda Briar crafts a hidden world that is layered within itself. Lennox, our FMC, is the princess and soon-to-be-queen of her kingdom, but she's been sheltered her entire life. As soon as she starts to pull on one thread to unravel what has become her normal life to change things, more and more unravels until she finds the way to the answers she's looking for.
This book sets the framework for the rest of the series if the last 25% is anything to judge by - to say nothing of that cliffhanger - so don't expect a fast-paced adventure. However, the building of the story is necessary to lay the groundwork.
Jacci Prior does a PHENOMENAL job at narrating the story. There were times when I forgot that it was just her - her male voices are *that* good, y'all. Her delivery of the story brought it to life so that even with the slower pace, it still moves so well and kept me hooked and wanting to hit play when I needed to not be listening to it.
I feel so lucky to have read Amanda’s debut novel while she is still in the process of finishing the trilogy! I loved trying to pick out the similarities to Peter Pan. I have enjoyed the storyline so far. It’s kept me guessing while still being easy to follow. The last 15% really had me on the edge of my seat and the twist at the end…wow! Can’t wait to see how it plays out in book 2!!
I NEED to know what happens! Just about the time I thought I had it figured where this story was headed, something would happen to make me second guess it. Fantastic read!
WOW! This book was sooo good and the ending! I liked the concept of the story and the main idea of hope. My favorite quote from the book was “Light always finds a way even through the blackest woods” I am so excited to read the next book very soon and already thinking of some of the twist that may come in the next book 🤔
3.80 stars: I thought it was predictable but the writing was good, liked the pacing, and the dialogue and descriptiveness! I’m definitely going to read the next one!
I found myself giggling and kicking my feet a few times while reading Dawn of Hope. I am such a sucker for Peter Pan/Neverland retellings. This one has quickly become one of my favorites. Lennox, our FMC is strong and smart and I really love where (I think) the story line is going. 👀 😈

Omg I love this so so much, wayy more than I thought I would. I initially picked it up on a whim, but this was actually amazing.
I feel so bad for poor Lennox and the fact that she doesn't know how much her dad actually loves her. It's so stupid that she's being kept in the dark, and I'm really curious to know what her dad is trying to protect her from. I have a feeling it's something to do with Dane/the Voyagers.
It's so coincidental to me that he just so happened to bump into her in the section that no one else goes to. I do not trust that man. I was literally that one meme of Fry from Futurama the whole time whenever he popped up.
I really do feel for Lennox, though, and her mum's little journal made me so sad. It's the whole thing of where she's mourning what could have been and what could potentially be. Broke my heart fr. Her characterisation is so real, and I love how she's not infallible. She's a little naive but has a good head on her shoulders, and I love that for her. She's realistic, and her development is perfect and gradual.
Her relationship with Dane as well, you can see how it slowly progresses, and it's been done so well. The fact that she's never interacted with someone romantically before comes through as well and again, it's realistic. Especially for someone as young and as inexperienced as her.
I don't trust Dane at all. I don't know why but I have a bad feeling about him. He was okay before I found out he was the Guardian, but ever since they got to the island, he's been giving me bad vibes. I have a feeling he's taking advantage of her, and he's manipulating/gaslighting her. Like why is he so iffy about maps? That's the most logical way to go about finding the healing water.
Maybe it's just me liking Weston more lmao, but I hope her and Weston are endgame (unless he's really evil and heinous, then in that case I hope she gets with no one and is happy with her mum and dad and becomes a bad ass queen).
ALSO OMG FIN!?!?!? HE BETTER BE PERFECTLY FINE WITH WESTON OR ILL LITERALLY RIP ALL MY HAIRS OUT !!! HES JUST A SWEET LITTLE CHILD THAT WANTED TO LEARN ARCHERY !!! PRAYING FOR HIS SAFETY FR FR !!!
There were some bits that felt a little bland and monotonous, but honestly, the plot and the story make up for it, so I didn't really mind. It was an enjoyable book and I really liked it. I physically cannot wait for book 2, and I will be screaming into the void until further notice.
All my favorite things in a fantasy romance: a bad ass heroine, steamy heart throb, adventure, friendship, and a magical world. Already dying for book two!!
Welcome to Blackwood, a kingdom that never sees the sun and a princess who has never left her castle. This coming of age first in a trilogy gives off big fairytale vibes with the flavor of a unique Peter Pan retelling.
As we begin, we follow the first person POV of Lennox, a princess who has been sheltered her entire life after her mother went into an unexplainable deep sleep upon her birth. Her father can’t look her in the eye; she isn’t allowed friends; she’s been trained to be the future queen but met no one in her kingdom or those surrounding it.
After Lennox hears that her father may pull the plug on her mother, she begins searching for answers outside of the castle. And when her coming of age party includes only the palace staff, her rage confirms she must finally take matters into her own hands.
Under a guise, Lennox meets a young male named Dane also searching for answers to heal a family member. But when Lennox hears about a mysterious place called Dawnlin, that’s when her life turns upside down.
Dawn of Hope is a cozy, lower stakes read that is the beginning to an even bigger story. The first 40% is plot and world building, so hang in there as you move forward. Amanda did an amazing job with description, setting up our foundation, and creating a found family while also slipping in some red flags and plot twists. I have a lot of theories and I’m so excited to know more!
Tropes you may find in DOH are hidden identities, coming of age, slow burn with no spice (but stated spice will come in later books), secrets and plot twists, magical island, a FMC that I believe is harboring some feminine rage I can’t wait to see, and a cliffhanger that makes you excited for book two!
Thank you so much, Amanda, for connecting with me to read your work! I can’t wait to see what comes next!
Dawn of Hope by Amanda Briar is an enchanting and emotional tale of courage, love, and self-discovery that takes readers on an unforgettable journey to a world brimming with magic and danger.
Lennox Holt is a beautifully crafted protagonist—a strong, determined young woman grappling with the weight of duty, loneliness, and the dream of healing her mother. Her journey to the mythical island of Dawnlin is equal parts thrilling adventure and heartfelt self-exploration, drawing readers into her struggles and triumphs.
The island of Dawnlin is a masterpiece of world-building—vividly described, filled with wonder, and layered with secrets that keep the story unpredictable. The magical elements are seamlessly integrated, heightening both the stakes and the sense of awe as Lennox navigates its challenges. From the treacherous Castaways to the dangers of the island itself, every twist keeps you on the edge of your seat.
The romance between Lennox and Dane is beautifully written, with just the right mix of chemistry, tension, and tenderness. Their shared mission and growing bond add depth to the story without overshadowing Lennox’s personal growth and the larger stakes of her quest.
What truly elevates this book is the emotional resonance. Lennox’s internal conflict between fulfilling her duty to her kingdom and embracing the newfound freedom, family, and love she discovers on Dawnlin is both relatable and deeply moving. Briar masterfully explores themes of identity, sacrifice, and what it truly means to belong.
Dawn of Hope is a must-read for fans of fantasy with a strong emotional core. Amanda Briar has crafted a story that is as magical as it is profound, leaving readers inspired and yearning for more. Lennox’s journey will stay with you long after the final page, making this book a treasure in the world of fantasy fiction.
I enjoyed this first book in a trilogy, but although it’s classified as new adult, it did skew a bit young adult. And maybe that’s because several side characters are children. I was wholly unaware this book has Peter Pan vibes until I was listening and I’m like “Lost boys?!”
Ok. Here’s the concept: Lennox is a princess and heir to Blackwood. When she was born her mother fell into a coma and has remained so for twenty-one years. Lennox’s adviser shares a story of a magical healing elixir only found in the shrouded land of Dawnlin. We’re off to the races now.
Lennox finds out how to get to Dawnlin and is immediately transported to the magical and dangerous island. Her transporter is the guardian of Dawnlin, Dane. Dane is tall and strong and very handsome. Natch.
She soon learns it’s not simply a case of “hand me a vial of the healing elixir and I’ll be on my way.” Some of the residents have been there for many years; searching every day for the elixir. The island doesn’t make it easy. It changes topography and it sets traps.
Lennox knows she can’t become complacent. Her mother’s life hangs in the balance and she will have to lead her people one day. But it’s hard not to be caught up with her found family and Dane.
Oh, and who is Weston, this guy from an enemy camp? He’s supposed to be the villain. Is he?
This was an enjoyable read; better because @jaccipriornarrator is the best. Her voice for Finn is the cutest! I honestly would give this book a 3.5, but I always round up. 😁 I do think it set the scene for book two to be amazing.
Recommended if you like a young adult/new adult fantasy romance. I do believe the next book will likely skew more new adult (meaning I’m thinking Lennox will be having the sex.)
I just finished Dawn of Hope and book 2, Blade of Truth in the last 3 days. While it's an interesting series and I will absolutely read book 3 when it comes out I have to say a lot of book 1 and even parts of book 2 are unnecessary. I think this trilogy would do significantly better if parts were cut out and it became a duology.
Back to regular programming:
Dawn of Hope is based around our lonely princess Lennox, whose mother has been in a coma since the day she was born. Her father for the most part ignores her and their relationship is non existence. Lennox lives in castle but doesn't really interact with anyone outside her guard and tutor.
After her coming of age crowning where all the local kingdoms and should have attended to watch her be named to the next line of succession, but no one came Lennox hits a low point. She decides to start searching for a cure for her mother, trying to latch on to the one person who might have wanted to have a relationship with her. Is your heart breaking yet?!
Lennox chases old stories of a land called Dawnlin where there is a cure for any illness. Not finding any information in the castle, Lennox does the unthinkable and leaves the castle walls for the first time in 21 years. At the library she meets the handsome Dane.
As the book progresses it finally hits a better pace around 70% through. For me book 1 is too slow and while it builds the background of the princess I think most of it could have been condensed. This was almost a DNF for me but I pushed through. I'm glad I did because I enjoyed book 2 more.
The BEST Peter Pan inspired book I’ve ever read!!!
What an incredible, light fantasy read! I would recommend this to anyone not looking for a heavy fantasy but still wanting the elements of it. Even though this was classified as a new adult fantasy romance, it felt very mature in the writing style and story! You will quickly be captivated with this world, all the characters, the twists, and the hope this book brings!
From the dedication at the beginning, I knew this was written by a fellow Disney lover and it got even better from there. It added to the reading experience looking for Disney princess inspired moments like they were hidden Mickeys. And the twists and the characters for the Peter Pan inspired are another level. It had me happy kicking my feet with the excitement of what is to come next in the series!
Above all, this book is filled with so much hope. And I know will resonate with so many readers with the message it brings. So excited for book 2 and what’s to come next in the series!!!💚
I am just obsessed with this book. If I could rate it 6 stars, I would.
Lennox has spent her entire life preparing for the moment she will finally be acknowledged as the future queen of Blackwood. Instead of growing up in the spotlight, her father has kept her hidden away. When she learns about a legendary island that holds a cure for any illness, she decides to take matters into her own hands and find the cure for her mother.
Lennox is a character you can truly feel for, especially after everything she went through! Dane was the perfect mix of brooding and mysterious, and I can’t tell his intentions yet! And Weston?! Where did that come from!!
The ending completely caught me off guard in the best way. I cannot say more without spoiling it, but it was incredible and will leave you wanting book 2 immediately.
If you love fantasy stories filled with adventure and just right amount of romance, you need to read this.
I've been needing a gentle/hopeful/romantic world to get lost in. And this was that...with a twist that saved the series for me! 😂
I love a world that feels both gentle and complex, with enough character development that I can see their big things coming but I also don't feel like I need to take notes just to keep things organized! I love a world that grows as you sink into it and embraces its maturity with circumstances that demand deeper consideration and fuel that emotional development.
This was a fun and interesting plot that blended a lot of really great tropes but also left some things unanswered and had me questioning towards the end!
Peter Pan vibes but with this a more reflective consideration of what grief looks like in a world that's frozen in its own time.
I struggled with the romance.. Up until the end....😉😉
I go back and forth between a three and a four star review. I received this book from the Goodreads giveaway and it’s one Id read in bed every night. It was easy to read and follow. The way the author wrote I found to be similar to juvenile fiction (middle school ish age), but then there were a few random scenes where the main character had a sexual experience. So it definitely isn’t for middle school age kids. That threw me for a loop because I felt it wasn’t needed, the storyline itself was interesting. Overall, I liked the main character and the storyline. It was a little drawn out at the beginning and it does leave you on a cliff hangar at the end to want to read the next book because it doesn’t end the story at all. I would possibly read the next book, depends on other series or books I am in the middle of.
Oh my god where to begin!!!! The way this was written completely immerses you into the world of Dawnlin!! Lennox is so special to me and I can relate a lot to her with the daddy issues and being locked in a castle (home). Her bravery of stepping outside of her comfort zone inspired me the most. Pacing was amazing, the world building wasn’t too extensive or hard to follow! I think my favorite thing about the book is the character development and the twists! Every chapter has you saying “one more chapter” just to know what happens! The love interest was absolutely well done and towards the end there is a possible new one added!! I love me a good villain and although we were given little of Weston, I’m already falling HARD for him! I can’t wait to see what happens in book 2!

Dawn of Hope is a refreshing and engaging read that hooks you from the start. Amanda Briar has crafted a story that’s easy to dive into, with a smooth writing style that flows effortlessly. It made it easy to read way past my 8:30pm bed time. (I never stay up late to read so that should give you a solid idea of how much I enjoyed this.) While it reads with the accessibility of YA, it also carries depth and nuance that will appeal to a broader audience. This is an phenomenal start to what promises to be a captivating series, and I can’t wait to see where Amanda Briar takes us next!
If anyone who has read this wants to talk theories on this.... let me know. I have so many thoughts but do not want to post any spoilers here. <3
This book had a really interesting premise going on: a princess seeks a cure for her mother by looking for it on a mystical island. I was really curious too about the reasoning for keeping her so secluded as well, really pulling in the mystery. I enjoyed the first third of the book, where Lennox, our lead, is looking for a cure, taking time to build up the tension. Though passing that part, it really seemed to fast-forward on the pacing. The setting was definitely cool since we saw everything for the first time alongside Lennox. The romance plot, unfortunately, did not pull me in. Overall, this was an alright romantasy book, not for me, but perhaps for someone else.
3.5 ⭐️ If you enjoyed the story of Peter Pan you should definitely give this book a try. As is obvious from the title, having hope in the face of daunting adversity is the theme.
Has all the makings of a solid romantasy series. It’s ends in a mean cliffhanger 😭
My main critiques are pacing and character. It was a little slow the first 130ish pages but picked up after that. I also wanted to care a bit more for Lennox, needed a bit deeper of a character.
Otherwise the story was an entertaining adventure that was easy to imagine.
I can't believe this is Amanda's debut novel! I loved it so much! The writing style and the flow of the story were very well done.
I absolutely loved Lennox and her determination to help her mother find a cure for her sickness. She was so headstrong and brave regardless of everything that she went through at the castle. Dane was so nice and so caring to her. I loved seeing their bond grow and develop into feelings. And can we talk about Fin? That little boy, he stole my heart. He was so precious! I can't wait to read book 2! I'm hoping my questions get answered and then some!!
I was gifted an audiobook copy by the author (thank you!). Unfortunately, I didn’t love the narrator so I think that definitely took away from some of the experience for me. I liked the concept of the book. It definitely felt new and different. Kind of a Romantic Fantasy meets Indiana Jones. The chemistry between the FMC and MMC was just meh for me. But, I’m honestly not sure if that was because of the narrator and the voices that just turned me off. The cliffhanger ending has me curious about the second book. I will definitely read vs listen.
It did capture me in the beginning and definitely at the end (cliffhanger).
I did have a harder time connecting with the characters and wrapping my mind around the fact that the main characters are in their early 20s while the side characters are vastly younger.
The end is a major cliffhanger and I personally think I’ll like Blade of Truth (book two) more.
