You Will Fall For The Alien Heroes In This Sexy Space Opera
Follow Captain Liam Synar, Peacekeeper Ania Looren, Commander Gwen Jet, Lieutenant Dorian Zade, and the rest of their spaceship crew for guaranteed action, laughs, and fun in this science fiction romance series. The Liberator travels through many star systems on its mission to rescue high profile Peace Alliance officials. Sometimes they even manage to save one.
Book 2 continues the story of alien mates, Liam and Ania, trying to make peace with their past. Ambassador Ania Looren was content with how she had lived her very long life. If given the choice, she would have chosen death over becoming the Demon of Synar’s physical host. But compelled to save her life, her questionable mate, Captain Liam Synar, made the decision for her. Now she is fighting her own inner darkness as well the dark alien spirit she carries inside her. Liam wants her to love him again, but how can she? She’s still struggling to forgive what he’s done.
I am an active dreamer and find writing to be the best way to use my creativity. Needing to satisfy both sides of my brain, I have become a cross-genre author of contemporary, romantic comedy, fantasy, science fiction, and paranormal romances.
I feel blessed that my books appear on bestseller lists for humor, romantic comedy, space opera, and more. I crave laughter from all my readers and focus my attention on making that happen as often as possible.
I love to hear from anyone who has read my books. Each reader is a hero or heroine to me. I am inspired by you.
I literally hit myself in the head while rolling my eyes. "He wants you to change him even if he resists" <<<< like at that (>.<) I wanted to slap Synar for being stupid... at least 40% of the time. Still, the good parts are enough to drive me nucking futs when the idiot parts come. And... I can't stop with this book, because I gots to know what happens!!
In The Demon Master's Wife the story of the lives and loves of the crew of The Liberator really takes off. The book picks up exactly where The Demon of Synar leaves off and just like in the first book I really enjoyed McDonald's writing style. The sexual tension runs high, without ever tripping over into the obscene. You really root for the couples. Plus, there is just something appealing about a begging alpha male...or is that just me? Maybe. All of that is just window dressing compared to what I appreciate most about the book though. What I find most appreciable is the fact that the female characters are full-blooded strong women with minds and strength of their own. Too often this is a missing aspect in PNR books. As is the strong fidelity of the men. These men are proud to bond themselves to their mates and unashamed to show it. I like that. It adds genuine affection to what otherwise might just appear as lust.
Of course, the love lives of the characters isn't the only element of the plot here. The plight of the Synar family is interesting, as is the spiritual element of the book. Though I continue to think of the this and the previous book as one story, I genuinely recommend picking them (it) up. It's worth the read.
Remember the book “Women are from Venus, Men are from Mars”? This novel highlights just how different men and women can be and the misunderstandings that can arise when someone acts on assumptions about behaviour. Communication happens when people talk to each other, not when they emote at each other, and boy, does that hit home for the men in this novel. Liam, Malachi, Dorian and Conner get hit upside the head in various ways by various women throughout. At least several of them learned to talk, and more importantly, to listen!
These books just get better and more intriguing as they progress. There’s space travel, aliens, romance, fighting, war, slave trading to fight and destroy - all the good makings of an awesome series. Don’t want to ruin all of the plot points because I truly believe the readers should discover that themselves. On to book three!! Yay for Kindle Unlimited and the author for sharing the book on KU.
Synar and Ania are not the only lovers to need to hash things out. Gwen and Dorian also have their drama. Dorian made the mistake of rejecting a relationship with Gwen when they first met. Now Gwen wants nothing to do with him. It is all very dramatic and angsty.
Even so, I enjoyed this story. I especially enjoyed Malachi and I hope that the demon is redeemed through his union with Ania.
I have submitted this review after listening to the audiobook of this title.
The story of a disgruntled demon master, a mate who contains said demon, in a bid to save her and a brother who is intent on recapturing the right to be the demon master, regardless of the cost to other people's lives.
There are also backstories occurring to make a fast paced saga.
Ready for book 3 and following the storyline. With Malachi free and working support, the whole demonic slave aspect has changed. Love the characters although they keep evolving and find new objectives quickly.
In Demon Master's Wife by ingenious author Donna McDonald throughout the narrative all my fears about demons were shattered. Demon, Malachi in both books is incredibly insightful and thanks to Ms. McDonald's Forced to Serve series my inhibitions were blown into out of space.
Demon Master's Wife is an awesome second installment of the Forced to Serve series. In Demon of Synar Ms. McDonald's vivid imagination laid a powerful infrastructure for the Forced to Serve series. Readers are introduced to a host of dominant characters with strong personas. Ania Liam, Gwen and Kade are precious, lovable and easy to relate to because their issues were believable. I appreciated the important role of friendship and forgiveness embedded in both books.
Demon Master's Wife has messages that speak to all readers because of the commonalities. The issues aboard the space vessel of the Liberator are no different than those we experience on Earth. Hmm, the same problems have been stumbling blocks since the beginning of time.
In the Demon Master's Wife main characters Ania Looren the former Ambassador of Peace Alliance is mated with Captain Liam Synar and she is the host for the sharp-witted demon that Liam inherited from his family. Malachi is a dark spirit which is the characteristic of a demon. I found Malachi's wisdom and perceptions rather sexy. Oops, TMI; Malachi is the opposite of the demons I commonly associate with taking over a person.
Liam and Ania experience conflicts that tear at their relationship asunder and Ms. McDonald portrayals are realistic. She taps into the emotional pain and passionately shares it enabling her readers to feel the heartache and disheartening occurrences that are pervasive throughout the book. Yes, the energy and mood of Demon Master's Wife is slightly dark but love is the light that breaks through the darkness.
One of the factors I enjoyed was the acts of love Dorian and Gwen and Liam and Ania shared as bonded mates. Dag I am jealous and wish I knew a man with miraculous talents such as Dorian to drive me crazy with pleasure from another location without a device. Kade's and Gwen's connection was such that Gwen received the big O from a different planet. The mind is a notorious tool with the potential to do much more than we utilize. Ms. McDonald appears to have access to this extraordinary ability because she conveys it so well. The manner in which the sensuality is highlighted in both books Demon of Synar and Demon Master's Wife comes across on such a higher erotic plane titillating me and I am confident other mature readers will encounter. Imagine living for almost a thousand years and still looking fabulous with the influential spirituality and insight with skills of mighty warriors with the aptitude to look beyond the surface of a problem. The male crew members of the Liberator ship are ripped, finely toned bodies and the women aboard the vessel are super intelligent, empaths, high ranking officers with deliciously curved bodies. Who knew there are “Cougars” prowling the galaxies. :-)
The story elements are clearly defined from the rising action to the resolution it grips you tightly and it's wiggle-resistant. The action scenes in Demon Master's Wife are explosive and I can see them as a movie with Steven Spielberg or James Cameron types special effects. Ms. McDonald has the progressive visualizations to bring a plot full of twists and turns, unexpected events that keep readers up late into the wee hours to finish the book. Ms McDonald fed me well and I'm sated for the moment so I placed my Kindle down, recharged the battery. As a great writer; Ms. McDonald left enough room for a fresh set of mysteries. I will devour book three Siren's Call over the week-end since staying up all night reading is not a legitimate excuse for tardiness. Well maybe if I give the boss copies of the books; I might be able to pull it off. :-)
Ok, I really don't write reviews but I feel in this case I need to because I really wanted to give this book a 4 star.
Why didn't I? Read on my friends!
Pros:
Malachi - enough said!
Premise - I really liked the setting and the unique characters. It probably has more to do with the Scifi blood running through my veins but take it where you can get it.
A Group Story - lately the biggest trend has been the SERIES! You know what I'm talking about, right? You know, the series that follows a single character or more recently the series that follows a group with each book dedicated to one of the characters and subsequent characters make appearances. Yep! Not here. I love that this is more like a TV series which follows a group of people but guess what it's still a series. YAY!
Unfortunately, the cons outweighed the pros. Hence the three stars and be happy it wasn't bumped to two because... well you'll see.
Cons: (These are in the order of severity.)
Grammar - oh my goodness, I understand that these books are likely self published or maybe extremely small publisher published but when I can notice the scary bad grammar something is wrong. (I made my community college professors cry people, I know these things.) Please, please, PLEASE pay someone $5 to take a red pen to these books before releasing them. I say this now because I let it slide with the first book - IT WAS FREE! The later ones we have to pay for, not much, but it's still putting food on someone's table.
Development - I've read worse BUT oh man! Note - I will most likely ramble here so I am sorry in advance. Let's start with the settings in the book. Too many events/settings, too much going on, won't stop! Yeah, now read that sentence again but faster and you'll know how I felt at the end. Even roller-coasters have to have a in-between. It goes from Ania merging with a demon to Gwen is in trouble off to save her then heal her then set up meet and greet with the bad guy, face bad guy then straight into conflict for next book. Wait, what!? Oh don't forget the strange alien sex in the middle. Sigh!
Let's talk about character development. Here it's not so bad actually but I have one major pet peeve and this author hit it. That being said, when you write about enlightened beings who are old and wise MAKE THEIR BLOODY ACTIONS REFLECT THAT! Do not tell me they are so wise and enlightened and then immediately after they do something extremely stupid tell me they have a lot to learn (this is called back tracking which usually follows a lie, yeah think about it). This is an annoying contradiction and has no place in literature. Also, don't top it off with the old and wise stereotype of dry "peace find you" crap. Argh!
Consistency - I know most people don't notice the little things but I do and I have an excellent memory. Example - Ania falls a sleep in Synar's arms and wonders if he works out. Really? You watched him work out two chapters before you know the answer you old, wise and daft woman!
Misc - nothing intangible ever gets resolved in this book. Mostly because Synar acts more like an ape and would like to pretend nothing is wrong. BUT in literature, like in boy scouts, you need to tie your knots correctly. (I have started the next book and it all continues but I still feel that Ania and Synar needed to resolve something other than their liking of 'bonding' in this book even if their relationship angst continues through the rest of the series.)
Why am I still reading this series? I don't know. Probably because I'm slightly addicted to what's going to happen to Malachi and Zade next. Gwen's starting to grow on me too so we'll see!
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
Book two in the series is so much better than the first!! Possibly because I fully understand everything that is happening from the start. These books are connected and definitely not stand alone reads. If you can get past the first book this one answers tons of questions and resolves major conflicts. Warning, it does lead directly into the next book in the series and the main characters of that book are left hanging in the end of this one. Great device for building anticipation of the next book!
The leads in this story are still Liam and Ania. I really like Ania and can not see why she puts up with Liam and all his issues. He is very contrary and I want to throw a shoe at him. But she loves the big lunkhead, so I have to endure him. She really is too good for him, but the heart wants what it wants.
I love that these books mix in other stories with the main romance. There are three other connections made in the supporting cast that are at varying stages of development. I can see where the series will head with those romances, and I am definitely hooked! Very smart choice on Ms. McDonald's part. She is also clever in using a mixed narrative and letting supporting characters have POV through out the book. It adds depth to the story and makes the series more engaging to the reader.
There is some steamy action this book, and while it has some detail it is strangely worded. I get this is a sci-fi but the terms they use for sex, or bonding are off-putting and far from sexy. I can not believe I am going to say this, but I wish it were closed bedroom door. Sorry, it was just not sexy at all and felt clinical at times. I usually love the steam but this was lukewarm, at best.
The side story is detailed and has many twists and turns. I loved the creativity in the story and all the action. It felt like a lot happened in a short time, but never came off as rushed or too much coming at you. I really liked the resolution of the conflict with the brother and am eager to see how things develop for Malachi.
There are moments for some of the characters where you want shake them! For supposedly old and enlightened beings they get pretty stupid! Why is it the youngest member, who is part Earthling, has the most sense? I do love Gwen and she is seriously kick butt!! She is my fav gal in the series! She has a real, you go girl moment with her mate and a taser! That will teach him!!
I listened to the audiobook narrated by Allyson Johnson. She does a much better job this time maintaining consistency. I liked the changes she made to the voices and they are now very distinct. She has a great pace and a terrific energy to her voice. I really enjoyed the emotions she was able to instill into the characters. This second book was a real improvement for her as well. I love the way she does Malachi's voice, he is positively delicious now!!
I can not wait to see the next book come out on audio. I am eager to find what is to become of the Gwen and Zade, in addition to the other crew members. Such possibilities!! I am so happy I decided to give the second book a shot!
Disclosure - I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. All thoughts, opinions and ratings are my own.
AudioBook Review Stars Overall: 4 Narration 4 Story 4
Picking up right where the first book left off, I think that the novella was able to present much of the background information that is integral to this story, without dragging down the pace and flow with too much information. These books will not stand alone: you are well-served by reading them in order as only a nod is given to provide information from the first book.
Aria is dealing with her hosting of Malachi, yet Liam’s brother Conor is still a great threat. In a secondary thread, Dorian and Gwen are still struggling with their on again off again relationship and attraction, it’s quite funny to see Dorian: an enlightened being totally and completely flummoxed by Gwen’s independence, sharp tongue and guarded heart.
It is interesting to note that even though things are rather curiously jumbled in the relationships, and the men are really no more able to understand their women’s needs, that the underlying conflicts are all really about communication and honesty with the couples.
But, Conor is providing a serious threat to all: wanting to claim Malachi for himself, and not all is well in the universe: Dorian is in trouble, and an ambassador that should have been working for peace is tied to Conor and determined to cause upheaval in Liam’s life.
Each story is treated with respect and pacing that fits the action, even as all of the subplots do circle back to revolve around Aria and Liam. We also see a growth and development for Malachi, from demon with a very jaded approach and outlook toward the humans he encounters, he starts to see that he is also an integral cog in the works: and that there are those who will deal with him as a being worthy of acknowledgement, not just an unwanted tool. If you are looking for pure sexy talk and erotic moments, the use of some strange phrasing keeps the steam levels down, even as reactions are described in detail, although the emotional components are well detailed and explained.
Narration is again provided by Allyson Johnson: she again does a nice job of bringing the characters to light with her use of changes in pitch and tone. Unfortunately, there were several sections where it took a moment for her to get into the voice that I had come to associate with a particular character, as well as obvious moments of ‘cutting in’ phrases that perhaps didn’t make the editing cut. There were several of these fluctuations in the production, and sadly they did pull me from the story for the moment until resolved. Compared to the first book’s recording there were some misses here that I did not expect.
This has been a fun ride through these two stories: they are complex and rich with characters that are distinct and unique, even as they have traits that are all too human and familiar. I’m curious about the next step in the series.
I received an AudioBook copy of the title via AudioBook Jukebox for purpose of honest review. I was not compensated for this review: all conclusions are my own responsibility.
I WAS GIVEN THIS BOOK FOR AN HONEST REVIEW ........ OVER 18 + READING LOVE THIS BOOK AND THE STORY BEHIND IT Ania is coming to grips with being the daemon Malachi's host and Liam Synar her husband for putting it in her two years ago. On their bonding day, just before he left her, not telling anyone what he had none to save her life after the attack, now he has come back.Gwen Jet (Liam's second in command) is fast becoming a friend to Ania on board the ship. Gwen is Dorian Zade's (a male Siren and Khalsas trained )natural mate, but years ago when she first come on board the ship she was drawn to him but he refused her and even though he knew what she was to him he fought it. Now Ania's old student and Liam's best friend Dorian has decided to claim the woman, Gwen and this is where the fun begins because now she is running from him. What he wants to tell her is not what she thinks he wants to tell her.Gwen wants Ania to train her as a Khalsas warrior , (which it took her 50 earth years to learn and she has taught it for hundreds of years) and she has agreed, but she really plans for Dorian to take over when they finally get their lives figured out . Ania has found a way to adjust to Malachi, she is growing not so afraid of him and he is finally learning she maybe female host (for the first time, he has always had a male host) but she is a warrior and a good match for him.She will try to give him what he dreams of when she has a chance, but it is something Liam must agree to. Will he, can she make him see how it would help them all?Conor (Liam's big brother) will be coming to try to take control of the daemon Malachi, to get all his power which is something Liam can't allow. There is so much fun watching these two couples fight each other and themselves, and try ti figure out what is best for themselves.
Flippin' brilliant! The characters from The Demon of Synar are back and the story is actually better than the first -- if that's possible. I loved this book.
The plot is quick paced and tight. The lead characters of Liam and Ania are trying to sort out the mess of their mating -- are they or aren't they -- from what happened at the ritual: no sooner are they mated (wed), than an assassination squad sent by Liam's brother Conor attack the party, trying to regain control of the family Demon, Malachi. Ania is mortally wounded and Liam, trying to save her life, sends the demon Malachi into her (Malachi's host has died in the attack). Liam leaves her out of guilt and to keep her from knowing what's happened.
In The Demon Master's Wife, Ania -- who has been forced to join Liam's crew aboard his spaceship -- now knows the truth and has to deal with the consequences of Liam's decision. And so does Liam. And so does Malachi. Conor still wants control of the Malachi and will kill to get it. Add to the mix the other complicated pairing, that of second in command Gwen Jet and Spiritual Officer Dorian Zade. The complications abound; the romantic entanglements color. and are colored by, the dangers that Conor has wrought. The plot is complicated, full of action, and just keeps on going with a cliffhanger at the end that has me clamoring for the next book. I have to know what happens and I have to read it soon!!
Excellent series for romance fans and sci-fi fans as well.
This book was much better than book 1. It picks up right where book 1 ends and gave us a wonderful and satisfying conclusion. Be warned, it is not a stand alone book. You really need to read book 1 first. I really liked what the author has done with Malachi and how his character is evolving. The author also gave us the beginning of the romance between Gwen and Dorian and wow! What an unexpected bonus. Their story was soooo good, though be warned book 2 ends with their romance/story unresolved. So yet again, I must purchase another book.
*****spoiler****** The romance between Dorian and Gwen was hot! Dorian is a total alpha male and when he decided to finally "claim" Gwen, it was smoking hot! Gwen is an alpha female herself, so you can imagine how well that went over....not! She grabs a stun gun and shoots him -lol. She was just perfect. It was so entertaining and exciting to read! I felt like fanning myself and they didn't even have sex! It just proves that the true excitement in a romance novel is the chase! Too many authors seem oblivious of this. I wish there had been more scenes like this one! *****end spoiler*****
I really enjoyed reading this and heartily recommend reading it if you are looking for sci-fi ROMANCE and not sci-fi erotica.
In book 2 of the Forced to Serve series, The Demon Master’s Wife by Donna McDonald, Liam Synar and Ania Looren try to come to grips with the fact that Liam has made Ania an unwilling host to the demon, Malachi. As Ania develops communications with the demon, she learns to trust him, and comes to terms with her own violent past. Meanwhile, Liam works hard to win back her love and trust. In this story, we’re also introduced to Dorian, Liam’s ship’s counselor, and Gwen Jet, a hybrid earthling, who are both drawn to and repelled by each other. Overlaying the complex couple relationships is the specter of Liam’s brother, Connor, who continues his quest to take control of Malachi. This is a fascinating series; part fantasy, part sci-fi, and part interstellar romance, it contains action, explicit physical encounters, and a large dose of humor, setting it apart from most stories in any of these genres. A delight to read. The cliffhanger ending was a bit of a disappointment, but it has me itching to read the next in the series—so, I guess the author has achieved her goal with that tactic.
Received copy from author for an honest review. The Daemon Master's Wife just did not hold my interest. This being a series and I did not read the first installment may have been my main issue. The main characters Dorian and Gwen as one couple and Synar and Ania being the other. Most interesting to the story was the possession of Ania by a Daemon called Malachi. Our couples who were mates but did not want to commit to that was a bit frustrating so the romance was just not there for me. Not really a stand alone piece. Other works by this author have been of great enjoyment such as the Nano Wolves.
I really like the way this series continues everyone's stories and how the character's lives are all overlapped and woven together. The relationships grow and change as the people and circumstances change which is a wonderful reflection of real-life. I'm not normally a fan of sci-fi romances, but this series is really more of an adventure romance set on a space ship and strikes the right balance of action, danger, and romance. The characters are multi-dimensional, each capable of acting heroically or selfishly or foolishly at various times.
where to start I loved loved loved this book it had everything action romance suspense heart ache hot I cant say men cus there kinda alieny so hot alphas but wow I loved this book Donna McDonald is amazing at fantasy story telling books from cyborgs to aliens the words are complex and easy flowing I really love this amazing story I hope more people will read her books because once you read them you feel the story for days xx
I listened to the audio version of this book and loved it. I am so in love with the way the narrator is telling the story I am going to hold off on book 3 so I can listen to it when it comes out. If you like hot romantic sci-fi this is book for you but be sure and read book one first as you will be a little lost with this one if you don't Another great job by Donna McDonald
What an amazing adventure into a different realm, I so enjoyed the creative mixture of characters, there different way of living on a star ship, there talents and the drama. It's exciting, it's quite addictive, very hard to put down. The mating bond and the vibrational energy, the sirens call wow wow very alluring. I'm very excited for the next book that's the only real negative a cliffhanger.
The second in a series of books about people aboard a rescue space ship that are linked together as destined mates. The language in these books is a bit stilted and uncomfortable for me. I do like the characters, but think that some could be more well-rounded. Overall, I enjoyed reading this.
I really enjoyed reading this book. It was definitely a page turner. All the characters were interesting and I cared about all of them. Thus far the females in this series are very likable and strong. I'm looking forward to reading book#3.
as much as there were parts that made me cringe (and that walked a tightrope with being...problematic and that I'm still not sure it didn't fall over into) I enjoyed the rest of the book immensely. Don't read this series out of order though, seriously, don't do it.
Finished this book again but in audio format. I originally was not sure if I was going to like the narrator but man she surprised me with all the variations in her voice. It made me believe that so many different people were in the room with me playing the scenes out like a tv. Love the story!!
Nice for romance, but not for anything else. Aliens and not-so-aliens on a space ship, but all you know about is who is 'mating' whom. I like it, and the writing, but it is lacking plot.
