You Are Not Alone: a killer psychological thriller

Rate this book
They thought they were alone on the island. They were wrong.

Natalie and boyfriend Hudson have booked a romantic weekend in a luxury Airbnb on a private island in rural Montana. When they get there, it’s everything she hoped it would be – rugged, beautiful and totally secluded.

At last, they can take a break from their hectic schedules and just enjoy each other.

But as the sun sets on their first day, a terrible storm hits, knocking out the power and trapping them on the island. Then Natalie sees a shadowy figure lurking around the property and finds lipstick marks on a wine glass - a shade she never wears.

It seems they are not alone.

Natalie’s unease only grows when she finds the diary of Tess McDermott, a woman who disappeared from the island the year before. It’s clear from her journal entries that Tess was absolutely terrified, convinced that someone was trying to kill her.

Was Tess murdered? And is history about to repeat itself with Natalie meeting the same grisly end?

To answer these questions, Natalie must face her deepest fears and uncover the island’s horrifying secret. Can she survive the storm, or will this romantic getaway be her last?

You Are Not Alone - the gripping psychological thriller perfect for fans of Kiersten Modglin, Freida McFadden, John Marrs.

Natalie’s hard work of keeping her appearance in stellar form has paid off. She has found the man of her dreams. Hudson is all she has hoped for and he is hers. She knows their trip away will be everything she wants with possibly a surprise proposal as a bonus. She quickly gets more than she bargained for. Strange things begin to happen as their highly anticipated trip takes a turn neither of them could have imagined. This is a quick read that held my attention throughout. There were plenty of twists along the way that kept me entertained as I reached the somewhat rushed conclusion. Thank you Inkubator Books and BookSprout for my copy.

3.75 rounded up. They thought they were alone on the island. They were wrong...

Natalie and her boyfriend Hudson want to have a secluded romantic weekend on a private island in rural Montana... however, strange things start to happen, and they release that the island may not be as isolated as they first thought.

This is a nicely paced thriller, with some twists and turns along the way. I liked that the story tied together nicely at the end. It was a quick read as I wanted to see what was going to happen next. I also liked the dual POV, which happens towards the end of the book. The female characters are not very likeable, but this did not take away from my enjoyment of the story. I don't think I got the lack of trust between Hudson and Natalie, and this made the book less enjoyable as some aspects of their relationship didn't make sense

However, overall, it was an enjoyable page turner, and I'd read more books by this author.

Thanks to the author and BookSprout for providing me with a copy of the book. This is my honest opinion, which I'm leaving voluntarily

I received a copy of this book to read in exchange for an honest review as part of the book tour hosted by Zooloos Book Tours.

3.5 Stars.
You Are Not Alone is a twisty read set on a remote private island.
Natalie and her boyfriend Hudson have gone away for a weekend break to a private island for some alone time, and Natalie is excited because she thinks Hudson is finally going to propose. But when odd things start happening that can't be explained, the couple begin to wonder if they're alone on the island after all, and they begin to suspect a missing girl may be there with them. As Natalie slowly begins to slot pieces of the clues around her together, the life she thought she was living starts to quake at her feet.
I enjoyed this book and the little twists that occurred. However, I wasn't fully invested in the characters, and I felt something was missing but couldn't quite put my finger on what it was. The island setting was great and was the perfect setting for the story.

This book is full of drama, suspense and murder. Hudson and Natalie are on private island for a weekend getaway. Natalie gets the feeling that there is someone else on the island. Unaware of Hudson’s past or the connection he has to the missing Tess McDermott, Natalie finds Tess’s diary and soon learns that Hudson has been lying. Who is on the island with them and what is going on. Natalie decides she needs to leave now.

A very quick read with an engaging storyline! I’m a bit claustrophobic but most people would probably jump at the chance to spend a weekend away at a mansion on a secluded island! But, of course, nothing is as it seems, and it doesn’t take long for things to spin wildly out of control with abounding twists! I enjoyed the reading journey in a quick afternoon!

A fast-paced thriller that I thoroughly enjoyed. Natalie and her boyfriend Hudson have planned a romantic getaway on a private island in a Montana lake. Natalie is sure Hudson will propose and she's excited to plan their future together. But when they get to the mansion on the island, Natalie finds they are not alone. Lipstick on a wine glass, sounds from the basement. Clues appear that point to a missing local woman. As Natalie begins to fit the clues together, she feels her world crumbling around her.

The book has dual POVs, and I enjoyed reading the events surrounding both characters. There were a few unexpected twists. Overall, it was a really great read.

Many thanks to Netgalley and Inkubator Books.

When Natalie and her boyfriend Hudson book a private getaway on a secluded island, they plan for romantic evenings with just the two of them. Things go off course as a sudden storm hits and knocks the power out, leaving them stranded. Things take a turn for the worse as they find that they are not alone on the island, with someone out there in the dark watching them. Even more disturbing is the diary they find, belonging to the woman who'd disappeared off the island the year before, describing someone out to kill her. Is history about to repeat itself?

Firstly, I'd like to state that the premise of this book is intriguing and I'm sure the actual plot is interesting once you get to it. Unfortunately, this book has a very slow start and I just couldn't push through it. I also found the FMC's inner dialogue incredibly snobbish and self-centred, with her boyfriend being entirely too good for her. The writing seems amateurish and more YA, which I found difficult to get into. Collectively, these aspects made it difficult for me to read it.

~╏╵MY THOUGHTS (no spoilers)╵╏~
This book has promise but is ultimately hindered by inconsistencies and plot holes in its execution. The premise of the book lacks originality and is overused, making it challenging to differentiate it from others in its genre. However, writer Leah Cupps successfully introduces some unexpected elements involving the antagonists that add intrigue to the storyline.

The female main character, Natalie, is portrayed as shallow and lacking depth. Her tendency to overlook the broader context in various situations is a prevalent motif in the narrative. Natalie’s emphasis on physical appearance may be perceived as frivolous and superficial, as she appears to be convoluted and believes her looks are the primary factor in attracting and maintaining her romantic partner.

The book's resolution and conclusion felt hurried, and as a result, less impactful given the buildup. As a result, there was a sense of lack of depth and development, particularly regarding major characters in the books' outcome. That said, this left me with a desire for a more thorough exploration and elucidation in the closing chapters.

The narrative in the story contained inaccuracies and intentional misdirection that led to confusion and unresolved plot elements. One notable instance of this was the inconsistent timeline regarding whether Natalie and Hudson were living together. In the early stages of the book (4% into the book), Natalie mentioned that she and Hudson had moved in together after a month of being together. However, later in the story (at 24% completion of the book), Hudson expresses a desire for them to live together. Discrepancies in the portrayal of Natalie and Hudson’s relationship timeline contributed to disorder in the plot and detracted from the overall storytelling.

Nevertheless, despite its shortcomings, this book proved to be an interesting read. I was particularly drawn to Hudson, appreciating his compassion, complexity, and growth throughout the narrative. As previously mentioned, I eagerly desire to see a deeper delve into characters in concluding chapters, with Hudson’s being of particular interest to me. Otherwise, it feels as if there is unresolved business regarding his character.

I received an advanced reader copy (ARC) of this book in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own, and I am providing this feedback voluntarily.

Thank you to NetGalley for giving me access to this book.

I feel like I’ve already read this book before. The storyline feels a bit dragged out and a bit boring. It’s also very unlikely and not realistic in my opinion. The characters were also very predictable and one dimensional. Sad.

The writing style was also not for me, felt a bit juvenile and if it weren’t for the sex I would’ve marketed it for a younger audience.

I did like how short the chapters were and how easy it was to read. That made it worth it for me.

Overall it was okay, nothing special.

I was surprised how much I enjoyed this book. I am a sucker for the stuck on an island trope. A tale as old as time that started with Agatha Christie and has been passed down this type of story can be done really well or you figure it out in the first 20%. I read this book while I was on a cruise and really enjoyed it even though I have read a lot of books with this premise. I would even go as far as thing book would be worth buying which is high praise for me!

I really enjoyed One Last Bite by Leah Cupps, so when I was invited to read and review this one too, I jumped at the chance. I loved the eery cover an the description being described as a “killer psychological thriller” I was instantly drawn in.

I did question if the prologue gave too much away, had I guessed what the plot would be from reading that? Well, it’s safe to say I didn’t and the author managed to keep me on my toes.
One thing I love about the author is how she is able to create very vivid imagery wither her fantastic descriptive writing. She really can set the scene. I enjoyed that the story was told through dual points of view too- this enabled me to really get into the character’s heads. As for the characters themselves, I did struggle to connect with them, but it really didn’t put me off the book.

I was engaged throughout with the twists and the turns and I loved that by the end of the book, everything is tied up nicely, you’re not left wondering. The climax itself didn’t overly excited me, I kind of saw that one coming, but I enjoyed the tense moments building up to it! This really wasn’t a bad little thriller to get stuck into.

Wow, this was fun! I thought for sure I knew where it was going, but it shocked me. There was so much drama, deceit and suspense.

I loved Natalie’s character arc. So dependent and fragile, eventually evolving into someone sure of herself. The diary entries made this such a fun story! I really liked all the layers that Lisa included in this book. It made for a very fun puzzle of a read.

The ending was fantastic. Very happy for Natalie’s perspective.

I read this book as me and my husband went on a weekend Valentine's trip to a remote cabin in the woods, haha. I enjoyed this read and was surprised at the twist. The only reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 is because of the epilogue. I just did not care about that characters background as much. I would have rather heard from one of the other characters instead.

Thank you NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review this book. I was shocked to see some of the low reviews for this book. I enjoyed it so much! It was fun, easy to read, and it wrapped up all of the details nicely at the end.
I've been reading thrillers pretty intensely the past few months and this story is, of course, similar to many I've read but the author did a great job making it unique and enjoyable.

3.5 stars. This is a pretty straight forward thriller. There isn't much to try to deduce once you get to the half way point. You find out exactly what is going on and you just sit back and watch it all come together. It was definitely an enjoyable way to spend a few reading hours.

You Are Not Alone by Leah Cupps in the book we meet Natalie and Hudson they’re on their way to Moose Lodge and exclusive Island Hideaway just for them. They promised to leave work at home and just focus on each other. This is why when Natalie learns she has been jilted severely in a business deal and lost all her savings she doesn’t tell Hudson but she also doesn’t tell him that right after they arrived she found the diary of a local missing girl name Tess. in the diary we hear all about Tess and the love of her life Jay who Natalie starts to suspect it’s her own gorgeous sweet very attentive Hudson. She also starts to believe they are not alone on the island she thinks Hudson is going to propose an after being jilted she desperately is going to need Hudson‘s help but before the week is over she’ll just be happy to get out alive. This book was so whiplash inducing good… I mean this was a twisty thriller. The last book I read by this author she had such a humongous twist in it I couldn’t wait to get my hands on another book by her and I am so glad I did because OMG this book was so good. There is so much I want to say but don’t want to ruin the book for anyone because the surprises are so worth waiting for the plot moves swiftly Natalie is definitely a character to route four and it is so freaking good I’m sorry I keep repeating myself but it was it was so good! #IncubaterBooks, #Booksprout, #LeahCupps,#YouAreNotAlone,

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for the Arc in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.

Natalie and Hudson have a romantic weekend planned at an Airbnb on a private island. It completely secluded and will hopefully give them the break they need from their hectic work schedules. But, when the storm hits on the first night there, things turn sour. The power goes out and Natalie sees a shadowy figure. They are alone on this island right?

I devoured this book. From the creepy setting of what was described as a mansion on a secluded island, to the suspicions thrown on characters I thought I knew, and the twist at the end, I was entertained through it all. Even though I did end up guessing the twists, I did still really enjoy the story. The author did a great job making certain characters really unlikable towards the end. I did find that Natalie was a little bit naive for her age, but nothing that made me completely hate her.

This book was so much fun and everything I could want in a thriller. With the twists and turns and everything in between, I found myself completely immersed in the characters lives. When little things started happening and they would brush it off, I would always think YOU ARE NOT ALONE!!!!

An easy read to blow through. The writing felt...I don't know..I want to say juvenile but also that doesn't seem right. Just easy. There are some errors that an editor needs to go through the book before the final publish.
This is a trope those of us who read this genre know well. So it's not hard to guess certain things.

The book is a bit superficial with the way Natalie paints herself. Botox, surgeries, tanning...that's all a man wants to look good? I mean I guess some men only want arm candy.

I'll be honest. Every single character was simply unlikeable for me. Enough so that I was almost rooting for pie culprit. Not that the culprit was any better of a person. Still a satisfying end to the read.

This book was just ok. The writing felt very YA to me and lacked depth. I felt like there were some gaps in the plot and the story didn't flow right at times. I also find it very hard to enjoy a book when the main character is so unlikable.

This was a fast, easy read, very good! This story has a surprising twist and a huge scandal. I love the development of the one character into a more confident woman. This one kept me guessing, I thought I had it figured out, but I didn’t. I love when that happens. If you like suspenseful mysteries, this book is for you.

This was a really fun thriller and I love the author framed the mystery and pulled the rug out from under us with a shocking plot twist. I loved how I didn’t know who to trust especially with being in Natalie’s head and her being suspicious of Hudson. The reveals were good and it got very messy and I was hooked.

It's fine as a quick read. The writing isn't great, the wrap up feels abrupt, and several of the twists are predictable but it did keep my attention for an afternoon.

This was short enough that it didn't drag, but it was hard to be too engaged with these unlikable characters. Natalie comes across as quite shallow, it's hard to root for someone who is so self-absorbed. She also seemed kind of dumb, how was she that successful at real estate and so gullible at the same time?

The setting was one of the best parts, a remote island in the middle of a lake. Big thunderstorms keep things tense and add that element of danger and isolation.

While there are pretty decent twists, they are also pretty far-fetched, but I guess that ups the entertainment factor.

Great start - Terrible finish.

Part 1&2 were great- part 3 was so repetitive and like something from lifetime movie network - the wrap up wash amateurish. And the epilogue was unnecessary bc who cares about John🤣🤣
