Never in a million years would I ever fall for the son of a drug lord. Or so I thought until I moved two doors down from Jett.

Zara thought her life was over when she had to move just days before graduation. The situation went from bad to horrible, when she discovers just how cruel the kids at her new school can be.

When Zara is set up by some bullies and almost raped, she somehow gets free, but she’s haunted by the eyes of the one she believes rescued her.

Later, bad boy Jett is only too willing to step in and help. In fact, Zara can’t seem to get rid of him or his family, who all seem to have a strange obsession with her.

Will letting down her guard be one of the biggest mistakes of her life, or is Zara destined to become a part of his life, an existence that no human could ever understand?

I don't really know how I feel about this book. I didn't hate it but I didn't love it either. The big reveal on what was really going on with her took too long to come to fruition. Even though I found it surprising I no longer really cared because I found the rest of the book to be just so underwhelming.

Zara was really naïve and she was kind of a push over. She was all too eager to accept the bullshit explanations Jett gave her all because she thought he was hot. I mean he invaded her home and her personal space without permission or invitation. She also kept allowing strange people in her home all because he said so and she never questioned the fact that some guy she didn't know basically up and moved into her house after she had been Honestly who gets that severely hurt and doesn't question the fact that they're not in a hospital.

Lets not even mention that the entire book took place in the span of a week. Her whole life had been flipped upside down in only a handful of days and she was okay with it because she found the strange boy with the black eyes hot. Had the book unfolded over several weeks and not days I would have liked it a little more. This book doesn't even have an ending. There is no cliffhanger but the book ends so abruptly that you don't know you read the last sentence until you flip the page and realize that the story isn't going to continue. This book had potential it just didn't deliver.

A whole heap of ugh. A heap made out of "I'm not that type of girl"s; of "I have morals; of an "I'm not that type of girl" and "I have morals" who has sex with her boyfriend while her friend is waiting for them in the next room; of near rapes and gang rapes, none of which does anyone ever think to report; of people who say stupid shit like "do I look like I'm gay?" as if being hot and shirtless means you are obviously straight; of a girl who assumes another girl is gay because she's friendly; of said girl then locking her bedroom door at night in case the "gay" girl "sneaks in later to sniff me while I'm asleep"; of slutshaming a girl who escapes rapists; of a group of Mean Girls who are so fucking mean, they basically set up the rapes; of instalove and endless effusing; of phrases like "his pecs were like magnets and my hand was the steel"; of a girl who doesn't freak out and phone the police like a sensible person when she wakes up to find her Drug Lord neighbour's son has moved into her house overnight despite them barely having spoken before; of so many other things.

Paradox is a mess of very touchy subjects, none of which are handled particularly well. Further editing is needed for typos and clunkiness, but regardless I don't honestly think it's redeemable. There are a lot of freebies out there - skip this one.

Terrible to many spelling errors it took to long to get to what she actually is the last 5 pages is when you literally find out what she is to focused on the love story and she was a little too okay with complete strangers taking care of her and having free roam of her house... and what was with the whole school helping this Tyler guy get laid? Just really bad..

It was a real quick read, read it while getting my hair done so about 1 hour. It was fast paced (a little rushed) at times I felt it lacked something, there were plenty of intense moments so I would say it lacked depth.

Love this series. Re-read them. This book is fantastic. Zara has to go through a lot in her life. Jett is a sexy mystery. But he makes her feel.

This, unfortunately, was very underwhelming. First of all, there was too much happening too quickly, the whole events of the book take place in a week! In that one week the main character starts at a new school, almost gets raped, gets shot, meets a guy who then becomes her boyfriend, her best friend is then raped, and she finds out she's half alien and murders the rapists... again this is all happening IN A WEEK!

The part that annoyed me the most is the scene near the end of the book where Zara, the main character, realises her best friend has had too much to drink at the party and she's completely out of it. Some girls suggest that Zara should take her friend back to their hotel room but she remembered her boyfriend took the key. So instead of thinking why not wait in the hotel lobby, keep calling until he picks up, or find a way back into the room, she decides TO LEAVE HER FRIEND ALONE WITH STRANGERS!!! Zara didn't know these girls, her friend is so drunk she can't move or speak and she knows that in their area guys have been raping girls so what on earth was the logic with that? She's like oh I have to find my boyfriend and ditch my friend, and of course, this decision had terrible consequences. It was just a stupid decision just made me hate her.

So speaking of the rape scenes in the book, at first I thought okay this could happen so why not start a conversation but then for it to happen a second time at the end to her best friend it seemed like it was being used as a dramatic plot point rather than delving into a serious issue.

The relationship was so insta-lovey. The guy she meets is a total stranger one that acts slightly weird and has family that are also sketchy, and in a matter of days he's in her house sitting in her bed with her and then in a week boom they're together. THEY DON'T KNOW EACH OTHER. I didn't feel the connection between them not only for that reason but because it was so obvious the main character was being lied to. He was bossy and gave her no personal space, yes he looked after her when she was injured but it was her house he had no right to keep going in there and deciding what was best for her. I just was not feeling the romance.

It also annoyed me that the father was so conveniently missing for the whole book, he had time to text her to remind her to study but no time to make a phone call to see how she is whilst he's away? Not to mention it was an obvious tool the author has used to avoid writing about a parent figure to keep certain plot points.

The ending was so rushed. Zara finds her friend being raped then turns into an alien and murders the rapists but she'd not had the urge to kill before even when she was almost raped so I don't really buy the reasoning behind it but whatever. Then she just lets her boyfriend explain to her how she's an alien and all this backstory and she sits there accepting it just like that, then at the end of their conversation, the story ends. I honestly thought I had a bad copy and it couldn't have possibly just ended like that but nope it did.

Now I'm aware this review has been quite negative so I do just want to point out that I liked the idea itself I just don't think it was executed as well as it could have been. I might read the next one to give this series a second chance but I don't have high expectations.

If I could give books a half-star, I would. The main reason I went with 3 instead of 2 was because at least I was able to finish it. The plot was pretty boring—sure, she was almost raped and shot, but nothing was done about it until the end. The great majority of the story just dragged on into this bullshit "romance" where all the MC did was just lust after this Jett character. It was boring and got old quick, despite the fact that the story itself was fairly short. Idk. I honestly think the only interesting part was the ending—I was able to finish, but I think that was mostly in part to how short it was. Maybe other people will find this story more interesting than I did, but I would not recommend it.

There are so many things right and wrong with this book. The novel is set on the Gold Coast. As I live here it was fascinating to read a book and recognise the scene. The female protagonist, Zara is freshly graduated from High School and meets the whole boy next door alien. I'm fine with cliches as long as they are done right. I'm still deciding.
The is a lot of controversy surrounding drugs and abuse in the novel that got very old very quickly. The overall story was very rushed as well as the characters emotions. However, I read the subsequent books on my Scribd account and the author quickly improved on some of these complaints. The emotions of her characters blossomed and the storyline became action filled.

Amazing Book!! This is a MUST read!!!

This book was so intriguing and so imaginative that I refused to put it down. I can honestly say that I finished this book in 2 hours because of how amazing it was and how it always had me pulled into the book and I was always turning the pages so quickly after the next so eager to get to the next chapter. I can honestly say this book drove me crazy when I finished it!!😵 I was like where's the rest?! What happens next?! But I am so excites for the next book and I can already tell you that its a great series only from reading the first book!!

I thought this entire series was really amazing. So much so that I could not stop long enough to write an individual review so I am going to have to sum it up here and post it for every book in the series. I love Carrero's spin on the YA/NA mob romance. Trust me, you will be like WHAT? Her writing is interesting and steamy in many ways. Her descriptions of bonding really made feel what being one would really feel like. This is an intriguing idea and Carrero has such an interesting concept that I can't wait to read more of her books. New fan here!

I have had this series sitting in my kindle for years, so when I start reading this book, I didn't check on the synopsis, and I find myself guessing all the way and only got the answer about 20% before this first book ended. Good torture 😂.

Zara's feeling over Jett is what I'll say a typical teenager feeling, and the author captured and wrote it splendidly. However, I was not too fond of Lily's plot and how quickly Zara accepted the explanation. It would be much better to cut short the romance and maybe put more scenes in the last part of the story.

P/S: I never heard of Schoolies, and I learn something new in this book. Thanks, Kelly!

I would have like to find out what they were earlier and have it be less mysterious for that long, because it became annoying that she saw the same signs, but just kept quiet. However it was an addicting paranormal romance and I will probably read the next book in the series, in the near future.

Interesting Paranormal Read

I enjoyed reading this book, it is aimed towards upper YA but I am way above that. The writing flowed, there was no unnecessary angst either. Love Jett, maybe a new book boyfriend? I cannot wait for the next book.

A paradoxical read!

Will letting down her guard be one of the biggest mistakes of her life...
Or is she destined to become a part of his life, an existence that no human could ever understand?

A very enjoyable read. It provided some escapism that was very much needed.

All I could focus on was this book. I'm looking forward to the rest of the series now.

Full of hybrids, aliens, drugs, humanity, friends and romance.

Perfect for readers of paranormal romance.

Wow, this book was addictive!! It was fast paced, full of mystery and intrigue and it definitely fitted under my favourite genre of paranormal romance. Plus, it was an alien love story and I'm a sucker for hot aliens! (Read Jennifer L. Armentrout's, Lux series books and you'll know what I mean!).

I also loved how this book was set in the Gold Cost, Australia. I have to say this is my very first novel I have come across that was based there. And, although I'm not necessarily fond of Australian settings, in this book it just seemed to work.

Some things that bugged me, however, was the pacing of the book. While I enjoyed it being fast paced, it was almost too fast paced. For instance, characters would just appear out of nowhere with no explanation of where they had come from or how they got there. There were also areas of the story where the author could have spent a little more time explaining. And sometimes the author focused too much on the mundane tasks of "hopping in the car, reversing, driving down the road, turning right, then left, etc". And, I found the story jumping from time to time in an odd fashion. For instance, one minute the characters would be doing something then suddenly they were doing something else. Or the main character Zara would be thinking in one way, then she would be thinking in a totally different way. I don't know whether this was on purpose or whether it was just the authors writing style, however, it won't be stopping me from reading the next book in the series; because even thought the storyline had it's minor faults, I did still really enjoy the storyline and how it progressed.

Overall, the storyline had the right amount of mystery and romance to keep me hooked and I think I will definitely be reading the second book. I just hope the author has a little more explanations in the next book and the settings of the story don't jump around too much.

My final rating I would actually give this book is 4.5/5. Because while it was good enough to be 5 stars, there was still room for improvement in the writing of the story.

Free download. Well this was different. The story jumps right to it and for half of the book it was really about learning more about Zara & Jett, our main characters. Zara has moved from Sydney to the Golden Coast with a week left of school, thanks to her father not caring about her but focusing on his career. She is left alone and he provides her with a credit card with no questions. After she's attacked by guys from school, things change. She escapes the attack but doesn't know how and her only answer is the black eyed boy who she thinks saved her. Jett suddenly seems to be everywhere. He has a reputation, the son of a drug lord, but isn't giving her any answers. When Zara is shot things with Jett change again, he's reluctant to leave her alone and she doesn't know why. Jett is possessive, protective and sweet, but she isn't sure why he stays close all the time, but things will change when the truth is revealed.
I did find the first half of the book slow but not in a boring way, I just wanted answers but when it's revealed you'll understand why the build up was needed. I enjoyed the book and I'm looking forward to seeing where the series goes. The characters are good. The story, and plot are fresh, the writing is good, only a few errors. The book is written from a teen aspect but it's fairly romantic when the characters come together. Nothing really crude, but they do have an intimate moment which isn't described. Lots of angst and I'd imagine more to come. Would recommend.

Paradox is part of the Unearthly Paradox Series by Kelly Carrero. In this story, Zara is moved at the end of the school year. She finds her self with cruel classmates that pull her into a trap to be raped. Luckily she was able to get away. But when she is left home alone, she finds she is not out of the woods just yet.

Jett is the bad boy two houses down, who is more then willing to step in and help. Good thing for him, Zara can't keep her mind off the handsome stud. But will he be more trouble then he is worth?

It's been a long times since I read YA Romance, and this book just showed me how much I missed it. The idea of young love, with that special spark that brings people together.

I loved this book. Not only were the characters great, but this book has Aliens in it. (Which atm, I am obsessed with) Jett was such a charming character, even though he was hiding some things from Zara. He was still very loyal and sexy, he did have a possessive side that I loved.

Zara was such a great character too, but I think what happened to her should had traumatized her a bit more. I think that if you came close to being raped you would have more issues. That is the only reason I did not give this book 5 stars.

Despite that small little thing, I thought the book was great. Something you could really sink your teeth into.

Personally, I liked this type of Alien but I would love to learn more about them and I would love to read the other books to this series.

Kelly Carrero is a talented author who will having you giggling like a school girl before you know it.

Don't know how I feel about this story.. I didn't hate it but I didn't love it, it was an easy rather enjoyable story. I loved that it was in Australia too, and the first few pages drew me in and I was hooked, it was a really great starting scene that made me intrigued and wanting to learn more but it just felt like nothing happened after that and she was a bit of a push over and just went along with everything and didn't really question anything even though she felt and thought something was going on, her relationship with lily was it? Felt a bit forced and one sided too. I didn't like the way the rape scenes were handled either and felt they were Brushed over when it's a massive topic and very touchy and should have been handled better, same with the whole gay aspect and the stereotypes and assuming someone's gay cause they are friendly and saying "do I look gay?" Like seriously?! You think that being gay has a certain look everyone can see?!... That pissed me off. The whole reveal took too long and even though it surprised me with what they were, it just felt like it took too long to come to fruition. It felt slow but it felt like the book flew by and suddenly I was at the end and nothing had really happened. I would've like more development of characters relationships and more information and action with finding out what she was and what her feelings for Jett were and if she could trust him at the opening scene and the fact that it was an australian setting and involved schoolies.

A young adult coming of age story of Zara, a girl newly arrived on the Gold Coast, who’s facing her final exams, a gang of bullies, her absentee indifferent dad, a new relationship with Jett—only the hottest guy in the neighbourhood—and something else altogether, something involving Jett and his family, something both startling and exhilarating. Addressing issues of rape and bullying, this Kelly Carrero novella is a great paranormal taster written in a near-journaling style with lively pacing. I would recommend Paranormal (Unearthly Paradox) for mature teens and upwards, with the caveat that this is a prequel and those who read it will want to read the rest of the series, so be sure to reserve a few nights in! Story felt a bit like Twilight (think big picture) but with aliens. So that for me was a nice twist. The love between Zara and Jett is a close second to the main plot of who/what is Zara and does get a bit old, but no so that I didn't finish. There are some unanswered questions but this is the first book and I assume that they'll get answered in the follow on books.

FriendsWow

Zara is forced into a new school when she only has a week left until she graduates. Her dad is busy with work and traveling for work. With Zara being new she tries to make friends. But her new friends agree it to hurt her. That is until someone breaks into her house and shoots her. She wakes up to her sexy hot neighbor taking care of her. Jett is not your normal man. He had a secret he is hiding from Zara. Something that involves her as well

I enjoyed this teen romance/coming of age/self awareness book. I won't say more because it would spoil it. Just so you know it was a shock at the end of the book! I got the first of the series for free at B&N but I did purchase the 2nd in the series "Addicted". I plan on reading it soon.
